I had never felt the need to take tablets for Period Pain, as I found that normal Ibuprofen worked fine for me. However having been on the Injection for the last 8 years I had never had a Period, so no worries there then, but 15 months ago I came off it and what a nice Christmas present yesterday, I got my first period in 8 years - aaah!

Was the pain really ever that bad? I can't remember, but I felt the need to buy something to try and take the ache away.

I bought these from Asda and they were sold behind the chemist counter. They cost £2.54 for 20 tablets, which I though was quite expensive, but these things normally are I guess.

The box is a swirly purple colour, which I didn't like to be honest, but it's not about the design of the box, more so the contents inside.

The tablets are in blister packs and are in 2 packs of 10. You can snap them off in strips of 2, so you can pop a couple in your bag if need be

The directions for taking them are take 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours. A maximum of 8 tablets in a day. Also it has a warning on the back of the box that says "If you need to use this medicine for mor than 3 days at a time see your doctor or pharmacist. Taking codine regularly for a long time can lead to addictio. Taking a painkiller for headaches too often or for too long can make them worse."

Each tablet contains Paracetamol 500mg and Codine phosphate 8mg. Since they contain Paracetamol then you can't take with any other Paracetamol product.

So did they work? Well I took 2 and they didn't shift my pain, even when it was 4 hours later. I've took 2 more and it's hard to say if they worked, as the pain wasn't that bad by then anyway.

I don't think I will buy these again, and I probably will stick to some stronger standard painkillers.
