During my extreme period pain days, my search for a cure brought me across Feminax. At the time this brand was well established, and well known for its magical abilities of providing period pain relief, the box stating that 'Feminax period pain capsules provide strong relief from period pain...' My experience of Feminax came out with somewhat disappointing results.
The tablet is not a tablet, but a white capsule which is smaller than a panadol tablet and easier to swallow even if you dry swallow it. The capsules come in boxes of 20, and as with Panadols are contained in plastic covers, where you just push the tablet out. The plastic cover has perforated edges, so that you can tear them and keep a couple in your purse or pocket.
The capsule has the word Feminax written across it twice in teeny letters which looks very cute, of course if you're in pain this probably wouldn't make a difference to your life. The fact that this is a capsule means it has no real taste to it, it just feels like soft plastic. Panadols tend to make me feel a little nauseous at first because of the taste, but the lack of taste from a Feminax capsule eliminates this problem.
I tried these capsules at different points during my period pain, the hour or so leading upto the severe pain, and during the severe pain. I found these capsules ineffective, they did not stop the pain nor did they reduce the pain, and I found that the hot water bottle was more effective as I allowed it to burn my skin.
I took two capsules in one go, swallowed with water. As mentioned previously, due to its size and feel, it is very easy to swallow, and is tasteless. I did not suffer any side-effects. During times when I have had mild headaches, and no Panadols lying around, Feminax has helped in curing these aches.
Each tablet contains 500mg paracetamol. There is the usual warning of do not exceed 8 capsules a day, and take them every 4 to 6 hours.
In conclusion, these tablets provide some relief from mild aches, but do not do the job that they are advertised to do, and that is relieve period pain. Panadols are more effective with the severe aches and pains. I give Feminax 2 stars.
