Advantages: Removes the sting
Disadvantages: Not an every day cream
Hydrocortisone Cream sounds serious doesn't it? Well it kind of is. But this is also a wonderfully useful cream to have in your home. It can be used in the treatment of such dry skin conditions as eczema and also cretin types of dermatitis but do consult your dermatologist before trying any new form of treatment. Hydrocortisone works by reducing inflammation of the skin after a nasty scratch, irritation dew to excessive drying or in my case after an insect bite. The active ingredient in this cream is Hydrocortisone Acetate 1%. Only 1%? That's plenty as it's quite potent.
I love to go fishing with my dad especially during the Summer but unfortunately, I end up being the bait. For some reason all the mites and flies and God knows what else love to have a good old chew on me while I'm sitting there for hours on end. I have tried DEET based products but I'm clearly too delicious to ignore. I've worn hats and long sleeved shirts but even if I went in a full space suite they would find some way of getting in and using me as a four course meal.
When I return home large parts of my body look like they are covered in measles. The insect bites tend to get angry, red and inflamed. So that's where this HC45 Hydrocortisone Cream comes in to play. The cream comes in a squeezable tube with a plastic lid and all with in a cream and blue light cardboard box. As always there is an information leaflet included with the product (please read it before use). As overuse of hydrocortisone creams can result in the horrible side effect of "thinning of the skin".
The cream itself is thick and does have a distinctively strong medicated scent. The cream is quickly absorbed in to the skin but you do need to help it on it's way by rubbing gently with your finger tip. For me there is an instantaneous relief upon application. Do remember to wash your hands after use and make sure not to touch your eyes.
A moment of two after application the sting eases and the urge to scratch lessens. Then after a few more minutes the redness begins to subside. In severe cases where I literally have been bitten from head to toe (walking through the bush in Australia, need I say more) I also had to take an oral antihistamine. I now always bring a tube or two of this on Holiday with me just in case.
This isn't an every cay cream, it shouldn't be over used. But it does work when you need it most.
That reminds me, I must check the date on my tube as the summer's on it's way and the insects find me particularly scrumptious in the summer.
Thanks for reading :0) 2night.
This can be purchased In most Boots stores for £3.85
Summary: Very strong medicated cream but it does work on bites
