Infacol Colic Drops
After bringing home a new baby and bring up the first few nights with this small little human crying its little heart out a friend of mine suggested I buy in some of this stuff pronto as it saw her through the first few months of her little boy’s life. As she spoke of it like some sort of magic potion I sent out my boyfriend to buy a couple of bottles as stock piling is my middle name.
I cost around £4 from the chemist but all I can say is it was worth every penny of his money! This Infacol can be used from birth, as it is a natural product with no sweeteners or anything in it that babies could be allergic to. Infacol is for the treatment of infantile colic.
Colic is a condition that affects around one baby out of five in the UK and no one is really sure why it occurs. Colic is the build up of small trapped air bubbles in the babies stomach and guts and this can lead to excessive screaming which can sound very high pitched and very distressing for both baby and parent alike. It can start in the first month of the child’s life and is said to disappear when the child is three or four months old.
Infacol itself is in a well designed bottle that holds 50ml and has a grey screw cap, attached to which is a dropper that sits inside. With this you are able to squeeze the top of the grey lid where a rubber suction end sits and this will suck in the correct dosage of the Infacol into the dropper giving a very easy way to administer the medication to the child. The dropper can then be inserted into the mouth where you can squeeze the rubber end again at the back of the child’s tongue giving a mess free dose every time.
Infacol is a natural orange flavour and I have had a little taste myself and its not too bad at all. Although my son would probably argue that if he could talk. Every time I give him some the faces he pulls are so funny you would think I had just given him fish eggs!!! It is sugar, alcohol and colorant free.
The liquid itself it a thick substance that is pretty cloudy white in colour. It doesn’t look very nice but the smell is quite appealing. One bottle has seemed to last quite a while and although you are to give it before every feed it does last a good while. The packet states there is enough for up to 100 doses. The dropper holds 0.5ml and this is one dose, however it does state that the dose can be upper if necessary to two droppers full giving 1ml.
The inside leaflet of this Infacol states that you have to really be using it for around two full days before it can really start to work properly. This can seem like an age when your baby is screaming all the time so perhaps start using it to prevent colic before it develops. The best idea as well is to continue to use it even if you think the baby is fine because of course when you stop if you realise the baby has colic a day or two after stopping you will only have to start taking it and then wait another day or two for it to work!
Infacol really did the trick with our son and I think it is a really helpful thing to suggest for new parents as colic screams are by far the worst screams you can hear! I am still giving my baby Infacol and I think I will continue to do so till he is around four months old just to be on the safe side.
This is definitely recommended to all parents of young babies.
Summary: a must have

- 03/01/08 i have written a review in a different section to yours and stated the same dosage as you, i didnt copy yours or anything just read it now to make sure i was right with the dosage as one of the dooyoo advisors has had a go at me and told me to change my review as it will over dose a baby and you should only use 2 drops of infacol not 2 pipets. how do these people get to be advisors |
