~Price and Availability~
At present, an 8pk of these capsules is available from Poundland and Poundworld. A 16pk is available from Lloyds Pharmacy priced at £4.09.
I can normally cope with mild cold symptoms by taking regular paracetamol and drinking hot diluting juice. My fiance always buys something designed to directly relieve cold symptoms. Last week, both of us woke up with a stinking cold and sore throat. Unfortuantely, we cannot just stay in bed and feel sorry for ourselves. Work and family life do not allow for this! My fiance used to head to Boots and pick up some tablets but this worked out expensive. Luckily, my local Poundland has a varied selection of cold and flu products and my fiance returned with two x 8pks of the Lemsip Daytime Capsules.
I am still riddled with this cold but alternating these capsules with regular paracetamol and hot drinks, it has been a bit more manageable. I didn't feel the need to take these capsules four times a day and I am glad of this as it would have worked out rather expensive. I did take two at a time over the course of four mornings as I found that I felt worse in the mornings for some reason. Just now, I have a sniffly nose and sore throat but over the last 6 days or so, I have experienced headaches, a blocked nose and a fever thanks to this not so lovely cold.
The capsules aren't huge but those who have issues with swallowing capsules may find them a little daunting. I found that with a large gulp of cold water, each capsule slid down my throat without any issues and no unpleasant taste. As I said, I found it best to take two capsules in the morning. I found them to get to work quickly and relieve mild to moderate discomfort. My headache was eased quite a bit but not completely. One of the ingredients acts as a decongestant and I found that this did help to relieve my blocked nose a little but I prefer the hot drinks for this purpose.
These capsules made my cold a little easier to handle. I found that by taking two in the morning, I was able to get up and do things without feeling so exhausted. This is one things that makes me favour this more than regular paracetamol as the caffeine does help to boost me a little and make me more alert. I found that the capsules worked well for most symptoms and the effects were evident for a few hours. I didn't find them to be ideal for reducing my fever - ibuprofen is more effective for this purpose. They are definitely suited to daytime use as would make me too alert if I took them at bedtime. I experienced no side effects from taking these capsules.
These capsules aren't miracle workers but they do work fairly well. They do not eliminate a cold but you cannot expect them to. They simply make a cold less intrusive on your daily routine and make Angel less grumpy! My fiance found them to be good for taking whilst at work to help relieve his 'man-flu' symptoms as he cannot afford to lose any work time at the moment. He took four over the course of a day and the remaining four the next day and still has the cold. I still have my hot diluting juice though as it is nicer than the Lemsip drinks and you cannot mix the drinks with the capsules as both contain paracetamol - always read the label!
Overall, I would recommend these at £1.00 for an 8pk - they aren't worth anymore than that in my opinion.
Thanks for reading :)
