Disadvantages: Expensive. Didn't work. Left me feeling worse.

It's flu season once again, and obviously everybody wants to know which are the best remedies for their symptoms. Night Nurse claims to offer relief from headaches, shivers aches a fevers, runny noses, tickly coughs and sore throats. The active ingredients are paracetamol, Promethazine (an antihistamine to cure runny noses) and Dextromethorphan, a cough supressant.

Many of the side affects listed for this medicine are linked the the drowsiness caused as this medicine is only to be taken at night and must not be taken when driving or operating machinery. However, this medicine caused me to experience hallucinations and highly vivid nightmares. This has also happened to a few members of my family and some close friends.

The medicine did not appear to relieve my symptoms any more than taking a cheaper cough syrup and some paracetamol would have done, therefore I was disappointed. The syrupy nature of the medicine left my throat feeling sticky and did not sooth the soreness. Furthermore the medicine tastes horrible so it's not suitable for younger people as they may dislike the taste. This medicine costs almost £5 for less than 200ml, which is quite pricey, when normal paracetamol can cost as little as 16p.

Overall, I, personally, was disappointed with Night Nurse syrup as it did little to relieve my symptoms, and therefore did not do its job. Furthermore, the unprecedented side affects left me feeling worse than before I took it.
