Advantages: Quick absorbtion, very effective, can tailor dose to suit your needs
Disadvantages: Expensive and small bottle
Gregory Isaac's song gives a brilliant overview of the product and its capabilities. It's also a catchy number, which is why I guess they used it to promote the product.
Night nurse can be used to combat cold and flu symptoms, as I found recently when I suspected I'd caught the dreaded swine flu. The active ingredients, of Paracetemol (which is a common over the counter analgesic and also an antipyretic which is used for fever relief), promethazine (which a sedating anti-histamine which is what helps you sleep) and dextromethorphan (is used for stopping the reflex action of coughing where it is non productive) fuse together to deliver an effective remedy.
You can get this in 2 forms - capsule (10 caps for £2.65 at Asda) or liquid (160ml for £4.09 from Asda). There is also a combination available for day nurse with night nurse (24 caps for £4.09, also at Asda). Personally, i find the liquid to be more effective, as you can measure the dose and tailor it to your needs (within the limits of course). It works alot quicker this way as well, as it is absorbed into the bloodstream at a faster rate. My other half can only manage 5ml, whereas it takes 20ml (the recommended dose for adults) to have any impact on me. Within 15 minutes I can start feeling the effects such as drowsiness and reduced flu symptoms.
For some people who take this product late in the evening, they have commented that they feel like they're getting over from a hangover. My experience has never been like this, but for those of you who are trying this for the first time, ensure you don't need to be driving or operating machinery the next day. Also another point to note that although it is available from your chemist without prescription this medicine can have side effects and should be taken only after consulting a health professional.
It's worth mentioning that at Chemistdirect.co.uk I've seen these items for a fraction of the price. However, there is a delivery charge.
Summary: Great for cold and flu, aids restful sleep
