      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Not worth the money

      About 3 months ago I started to suffer with anxiety, at first I was unaware what was wrong with me which in turn made me more anxious and stressed. As this progressed due to the stress I was putting myself under I was having a huge problem sleeping. I couldn't seem to turn my brain off so was finding it really hard to drift off and get any sleep. Not getting enough sleep was making me incredibly grumpy, which was not helping my anxiety at all. So I decided I needed to seek out some solution to my insomnia.

      Before Nytol
      ========
      Before trying Nytol I tried lots of different things. I tried doing some yoga which is meant to make you relax. I brought a lot of lavender oils, and sprays for my pillow. I purchased some cd's which would help induce sleep. Then I tried to avoid anything sweet that would give me more energy. Sadly none of this worked for me which is when my mum suggested I tried herbal sleeping tablets.

      Pricing
      =====
      I picked these herbal tablets up from my local Tesco supermarket. I paid £3.00 for this which is cheaper than pharmacies I believe. It is also normally in the 3 for 2 offers at Tesco. In the packet you receive 30 tablets that work out at just 10p a tablet, which I think it very cheap indeed. For the purpose of this review I had a browse around a couple of sites, and most shops have the retailing at £3.79. Still not badly priced for the 30 tablets you receive

      Dosage and Warnings
      =============
      Adults, elderly and children over 12 are guided to take 2 of the tablets 1 hour before bedtime. Do not exceed this daily dose, and these must not be given to children under 12.
      The packet advises you to consult a doctor if condition worsens. You are guided not to drink alcohol whilst taking these tablets. Also be aware that these may cause drowsiness, and are warned not to drive if this is the case.
      You are not permitted to take these tablets if you are currently taking anti-depressants or beta blockers.

      Herbal Remedies
      ==========
      I wanted to try herbal sleeping tablets as I didn't really like the thought of taking prescribed one, I didn't like the thought of feeling drowsy, or 'out of it' I believe is the phrase.
      There are 3 key ingredients in these tablets which are supposed to naturally send you off to sleep. Firstly there is passion flower; this is the ingredient I'm most familiar with as it's in a lot of anxiety relief tablets. The other two ingredients are valerian and hops. I have not heard of either of these but all three claims to induce sleep.

      My Experience
      =========
      I took 2 tablets an hour before I wanted to go to bed like stated, and I started to feel rather tired after around half an hour. I didn't feel drowsy or anything just felt really quite shattered. I chose to wait the full hour before getting in bed. I got into bed and did seem to drift off quite well wasn't tossing and turning like normal and I'd say I was asleep within half an hour of getting into bed. I still however woke up a couple of times throughout the night, but I managed to drift back off with a degree of ease. I took these the same again throughout the week; they didn't make me feel tired before bed the follow nights. I don't believe I tossed and turned as much as usual however but still woke up many times throughout the night. So in the end I stopped taking these as they really didn't seem as effective as id liked. I thought the first night of trying the tablets could have been a placebo effect.

      Would I Recommend?
      =============
      I'm not sure if I would recommend these tablets, I think I'd say if you weren't too bothered about taking more medicated sleeping tablets than to go for the original Nytol range. But if you would prefer a herbal solution then you may as well give these a go they make work more effectively for you. I wouldn't say these were bad, these did make me feel tired but I did still wake up many times throughout the night.
      I'm going to give these 3 out of 5; they make you sleepy but not enough to ensure you get a good night's sleep.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Won't be buying any more

        Occasionally I have trouble in falling asleep and as we are in the middle of a mini heat wave, I have been finding it especially difficult to nod off at night. I didn't want to bother my doctor so I resorted to trying a herbal remedy by Nytol. These were actually recommended to me by a friend, who says they are great and they work really well for her. I had used the other Nytol tablets before and they had worked reasonably well for me, but this time around I wanted to go for the more natural approach and decided to try the herbal remedy instead.

        I bought a box of thirty tablets from Tescos and they cost me just under £4 for the box. My husband is also suffering during the hot weather and he has been trying them alongside me so we can compare notes!

        We have both been taking these tablets, as directed, about one to two hours before bedtime in preparation for sleep. I liked the fact that these tablets are not supposed to give me any nasty side effects, including still making me feel drowsy and sleepy the following morning. The tablets are medium seized and easy to swallow with a glass of water. They do stink a bit as I have sniffed them the first time I used them, before swallowing, and to me they have a sort of 'green' smell.

        Apparently the active ingredients in this herbal medication is hops and valerian, both of which are meant to soothe the body and mind and aid restful sleep. I have taken them a few times bow, as has my husband, and I can report that they do NOT work! Nope - there is no difference whatsoever to our ability to be able to drop off any quicker than we did before, nor do they improve the quality of our sleep once we have finally nodded off. I think they are a complete waste of money and to be honest, I feel that if they do work for anyone, then it surely must be the placebo effect, rather than these tablet's ability to induce sleep.

        We will have finished the box by tomorrow night and I won't be buying any more. I have now resorted to a warm relaxing bath before bed, reading for a bit, keeping the fan switched onto number three (full blast) and opening the bedroom window just as far as it will go.

        Please don't waste your money on these and sweet dreams......

          Disadvantages

          Try a hot bath instead

          I imagine that everyone has trouble sleeping occasionally as I know that I do and most of my friends so. I have tried loads of so called natural sleeping aides some with better effects than others but one of the worst for me personally was the Nytol Herbal Tablets.

          I bought them in Boot's and they cost somewhere in the region of £3.80 for a packet with 30 tablets. I had previously tried the normal Nytol tablets and thought they were ok but wanted to try and use something more natural as I had been going through a period of prolonged sleeplessness and didn't want to be taking chemical tablets every night to help me drift off to sleep.

          These tablets claim to be natural and contain a blend of tablets to help soothe your body and mind and help with a restful nights sleep.
          You take two tablets one hour before bed and then relax for the hour letting the tablets get to work and resting your brain in preparation for a hopefully good night's sleep.

          I tried taking these an hour before bed and then I would have a hot bath and use some of my favourite soothing products before bed in the hope these would help me get a better nights sleep but I have to say that I thought they were useless and did absolutely nothing to help me fall asleep or make me more restful when I was asleep.

          When I was using these I honestly felt absolutely nothing and didn't feel the slightest bit more rested. At least with the other Nytol's I actually felt a little bit more relaxed and found it a little easier to sleep even if they didn't exactly knock me out. With these ones I felt like they didn't have the slightest effect on me and in no way helped me to rest or drift off to sleep.

          I kept trying them for a few days but in the end I ended up binning them and trying something else as they were useless and I personally feel my hot bath did more to relax me than these ever did. As far as I am concerned they were a complete waste of money. I didn't expect them to be overly strong but I did expect them to help a little and they didn't so for this reason I couldn't recommend them.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          I work nights on a 4 on 4 off basis, and I had trouble sleeping due to the light coming in, in the mornings, so I would only take 1 tablet, as it says on the packet "you may feel drowsy when you wake" or something like that. So I've been using on and off for a couple of weeks and they work like a dream (excuse the pun). I get in from a gruelling night shift i take 1 tablet and do my usual routine. Get into bed, have tea and watch a little tv and snuggle down, and before I know it im waking up feeling fresh and ready for another night of paperwork and dragging hours.I have recommended this product recently to a colleague who also works with me.Very happy pair of "grave shifters" we are.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          After using normal Nytol in the past, and having it work rather well, recently I have begun to struggle to sleep at night/do not feel at tired. So I bought the herbal version, the main reason is that it was cheaper than the ordinary Nytol, and I thought it might work the same. When I take two tablets, it doesn't make me drowsy like normal Nytol did, which is what I need as well as the fact it also didn't help me get to sleep. When I went to bed I was still restless, tossing and turning and ended up finally sleeping at some late hour. Overall I found that they were actually useless and had no effect on me whatsoever, they also smelt absolutely vile.

          A herbal remedy which enables you to get a better nights sleep.

          Nytol is a brand which produces non prescriptive sleeping aids that help you to drift off into a peaceful sleep, allowing you to feel refreshed in the morning. It produces sleeping aids which won't make you feel groggy in the morning.

          Sleep is important because it gives our body and minds a chance to recuperate and allows our bodies to heal. It helps us to concentrate and to keep us alert and it's essential for our emotional health. Worrying and having an active mind can prevent us from relaxing and falling asleep, or cause us to wake up intermittently throughout the night, and that's where Nytol promises to help.

          Nytol Herbal tablets are intended for those who want a natural remedy to help them fall asleep. They comes in a mossy green box with a cloud on the front and inside there are 30 tablets.

          How does it work?
          The tablets contain Hops which comes from a climbing plant and is probably better associated with causing the bitter taste in beer. The substance helps to relax the muscles, remove tension from the body and alleviate feelings of anxiety. It promotes relaxation and allows you to fall into a trouble free sleep.

          The tablets also contain Valerian and it is the root of the plant that is active in helping you sleep. This substance has been used for years to treat anxiety and panic attacks. It relaxes the nervous system and can also improve the symptoms of restless leg syndrome. Finally, it contains Passion Flower which helps to release muscle tension and stops nervous insomnia where your worries are keeping you awake.

          How do you use the product?
          You advised to take two of these tablets around one hour before you intend to go to sleep. As there are thirty tablets in the box, this means you should get fifteen good night's worth of sleep. The product is not recommended for children under the age of twelve.

          The tablets are fairly large and if you struggle to swallow tablets, you might want to cut these in half. In appearance, they are a green and brown colour with a speckled pattern. You'll need to hold your nose when you take these tablets as they are very smelly! They smell a little like gone off fish to me so it's not very pleasant.

          After taking this product, I was awake for longer if anything! I had more trouble getting to sleep than usual but maybe that's because I was thinking about it too much. Once asleep, I didn't wake up throughout the night as much as usual so I did feel fresher than I usually do in the morning.

          They do not make you groggy in any way in the morning so you won't need to worry about driving or concentrating first thing. I don't know if these would help those will big sleeping problems and I would say writing down your list of jobs, problems and worries on a notepad before bed would be more effective than relying on these to ease your mind.

          That said, it is a herbal remedy so it won't do you any harm if you wanted to take them. It will help minimally but I would advise you not to expect life changing results. Combined with taking a warm bath and writing down your list of jobs to clear your mind, you may see an improvement. I find reading before bed helps too because it stops you from thinking about problems.

          The product costs around £4 and can be bought from most pharmacies, department stores and from many online websites.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

            No luck with these

            Nytol Herbal Tablets are tablets said to help induce a good night's sleep and are widely available. I bought some of these in my local supermaket and they cost £5 for a packet of 30 tablets. The tablets contain hops, valerian and passion flower and the natural sedatives are supposed to make you calm and drowsy and ready for bed. You take two tablets an hour before you plan to go to bed and then they are supposed to work their magic. Did the tablets work for me? Sadly, the answer is no.

            I do struggle to get to sleep sometimes and have bouts of insomnia, especially in the summer, and I was very curious to try these when I saw them in the supermarket. I took two an hour prior to going to bed as instructed over several nights but I didn't notice any great effect and they didn't make any difference to how long it took me to get to sleep. You do notice a slight fogginess after you've taken them but it might just be your imagination. You've taken something so you assume something has happened. I didn't feel drowsy or sleepy when I went to bed an hour after taking these. I just felt awake and like I'd wasted £5 in the supermarket.

            The tablets look like dried lettuce crushed into small tablets and it might have more effect to eat a lettuce! They don't really smell very nice either. They smell like the inside of a rabbit hutch. I didn't have any problems getting them down though with a glass of water. You should follow the instructions that come with the tablets and obviously not take more than two before you go to bed. I don't know if the tablets work for anyone else but I was very disappointed with my experience of these and would not choose to buy them again. You would be better off making yourself some hot milk or chocolate an hour before bed and saving your money. The effect of these tablets is no stronger than a hot milk or a late night bath and neither of those send me to sleep either.

            If you do suffer from insomnia and are looking for a natural remedy that might help you to relax and get a reasonable night's sleep then I would approach Nytol Herbal Tablets with caution. They didn't work for me at all.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

              £4.38 for a sleep aid which didn't work for me

              I often have trouble sleeping and have tried many over-the-counter sleep aids over the years with varying results. One of the products I bought recently was Nytol Herbal hoping that a more natural tablet may help but I'm afraid it did not and I feel I just wasted £4.38.

              In my opinion there is nothing worse than being short of sleep (may have been OK for Thatcher, but not for me) as millions of us can testify hence the need to try out easily available products before finallly seeking help from the medical profession.

              The pack is as shown in the Dooyoo picture and it clearly states that it is Herbal (Nytol make 2 other types which don't contain all natural ingredients). There are 28 round, brown tablets in the blister pack which comes with a leaflet on directions for use and ingredients etc. I would not advise smelling them because they stink of rotting vegetables!

              It is advised that 2 are taken about an hour before retiring. I did as told but I did not 'drift off to sleep' as it was claimed I would do by Nytol. I was relaxed as I got into bed and waited and waited..... still awake two hours later and fainally nodded off in bthe early hours of the morning - no different to a night where I hadn't taken anything. I persevered but I still did not have a proper night's sleep during the 14 nights I took them.

              It is such a shame as the product looked so good. I'm all for trying natural products and this contains valerian, passionflower and a blend of herbs including hops. It is recommended 'for those that would prefer a herbal remedy with natural ingredients' - exactly what I was looking for - shame they did not work.

              These tablets did not do anything at all for me as I didn't feel drowsy, sleepy, tired or any more relaxed than when I had gone to bed. I was just left with a nasty taste in my mouth and £4.38 less in my purse.

              I have to say though that I did not experience any side effects and felt just the same the following morning as I would have done on Nytol-free nights.

              I would like to add here that my youngest daughter (20) has a sleep problem too and has tried these tablets but unfortunately they had no effect on her either.

              However, I feel these must work for some people because they are have been on sale now for many years and prove to be a popular sleep aid for many, so maybe I'm just in the minority?

              For the above reasons I can only award 1 star for these smelly brown tablets.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

                Good for the short term insomniac

                I've suffered with insomnia for the last ten years or so and generally I have tried just about everything in the vain search for a good nights sleep, figuratively speaking.

                I paid £5 for a pack of 30 tablets from Boots. The green box is presumably soothing and identifiable as the Herbal version immediately. It is kind of reassuring to see a big puffy cloud with a moon; it's implying that the big puffy cloud will be your pillowy bed for the night if you take these cumbersome pills.

                It is all lies.

                The pills aren't massive, they're a little less in size than a 5p piece and maybe 3-4mm in depth. Greyish brown with a few spots of colour on them. They taste as good as they look.

                ;;-;;-;;-;;-;;
                How it went

                On the first night, i took two tablets around 6pm. About 9pm, got myself set for bed and didn't sleep for more than two hours.

                On the second night, i took two tablets around 8pm and repeated the routine. I got maybe four blessed hours of sleep that night, I didn't feel too bad either - kind of rested compared to previous results.

                On the third night, a complete repeat.

                On the fourth night, another repeat

                On the fifth night, less than two hours.

                6th night: Less than two hours, faint irritation with everything that ever existed.

                7th night: Maybe an hour and a halfs sleep, growing hatred for everyone that sleeps at night

                8th night: Slept for a whole seven hours, very dehydrated for some reason. Didn't feel rested.

                9th night: Three hours of sleep, tired & easily irritated.

                10th night: Took three tablets at 8pm, blissful sleep for five hours

                11th night: Took three again and blissful sleep for six hours. Woke feeling rested.

                12th night: Took three again and around three hours of sleep, tired but not cantankerous.

                13th night: One left, chucked it out. Slept for five hours

                14th night: Slept for two hours

                ;;-;;-;;-;;-;;-;;-;;-;;

                It may not seem like it, but they did help slightly. No one should take more than the recommended dosage of medication. Even though the tablets are herbal in basis, this does not make them safe. Clove oil will kill with an overdose and various other herbs/plants will have effects ranging from miscarriage to psychotic episodes.

                I don't quite understand what the cause of my chronic insomnia is nor where it comes from; my GP is a pain and has no advice or recommendations.

                ;;-;;-;;-;;-;;-;;-;;-;;

                Herbal Nytol is superb if you have transient insomnia that lasts a week or two - if you continue to have trouble sleeping then visit your GP immediately, the consequences of insomnia are not life threatening but can and will have an impact on your motor function: The equivalent of being drunk. This is a bad thing if you drive a car. I understand that the 'recipe' for Nytol Herbal has changed and will likely change again. Hopefully, it will continue to improve.

                  Advantages

                  Disadvantages

                  At around £4 for a pack of 30 they are worth keeping to hand.

                  Ever since I spent my first 4 month stint in hospital I have never slept well. Not just during my stay in hospital, but when I got home also I never had a proper nights sleep and I often find it difficult to wind down on an evening. I think a lot of the time it can be due to watching TV late at night before bed, or using your mobile phone or laptop and being unable to wind down before sleep. I also don't think it helps with having a TV in my bedroom to watch before sleep. Sleep problems can be caused by many things, but if you are reading this review then you are likely to have some interest in the product, and you may also have problems getting a full nights sleep.

                  The Nytol Herbal tablets offer a more natural treatment with a blend of natural herbs. Key ingredients stated on the front of the packaging are hops, valerian and passion flower, and the herbs selected for Nytol have been selected for their sleep inducing properties. The front of the packaging also states this product is 'A blend of herbs to soothe and so aid restful sleep'. Also in large lettering are the words Nytol Herbal Tablets, so it is difficult to miss the box when buying at your local chemist or supermarket.

                  The box I bought contains 30 tablets, which are more than enough to last me a couple of months. I don't take them every night, and I wouldn't want to become too dependant on them long term. The recommended dosage is 2 tablets to be taken one hour before bedtime, I usually take them half an hour before lying down in bed, and they do allow me to have a good nights sleep. I also used to wake up around 3-4am but I usually always have a full sleep when using these tablets.

                  I didn't particularly pick these tablets due to their herbal properties, but if you are interested in giving a herbal remedy a go for your sleep then these are worth a try. Other than stopping watch tv or looking at a screen close to bedtime I would also suggest you don't drink fizzy drinks such as cola, and avoid caffeine drinks like tea and coffee. The tablets are small and easy to swollow. I don't usually take a drink with my tablets to swollow them, but I would say that as they are a small size then unless you hate taking tablets these will go down easily. Nytol also sell a herbal caplet, so you could always give these a go if the tablets dont suit your needs.

                  Since first using the tablets my sleep is more of a routine and I don't need an afternoon nap for lack of sleep anymore. I have tried Calms in the past but I would say these are one of the better products for those struggling to sleep at night. Rest easy with the calming properties of Nytol Herbal Tablets.

                    Advantages

                    Disadvantages

                    3 stars

                    When I split up with my husband and moved out I found that I could never sleep properly and I put this down to the fact that now I was on my own with my son there was only me that could listen out for him should he need me for anything. Over the past few weeks though I have been having a lot of issues with my ex and as such I am feeling stressed out. Suddenly I have found my sleep pattern is all over the place again and that I am waking around 3am and am pretty much awake there after. Obviously this is leaving me completely exhausted and so I thought I would try an over the counter sleeping aid. When I called at asda all that was available was Nytol herbal tablets and so I had no choice but to choose them.

                    The Nytol tablets come in a thin green cardboard box. On the front of the box the Nytol name is prominent in a cloud shaped bubble. We are also told quite clearly that the tablets are herbal and contain a blend of natural herbs which soothe and so aid restful sleep. The tablets actually contain three natural herbs which are Hops, Valerian and passion flower all of which are said to be a sedative, calming and will help to induce sleep. I think it is nice that the tablets are herbal and natural but obviously they need to work for this to be of any benefit and so came the sleep test!

                    The pack contains thirty tablets and inside there are two standard looking tablet strips which are foil backed and each contain fifteen tablets. The instructions state that you should take two tablets an hour before bedtime. This is very easy to do as you just push the tablets through the foil as you would with any other tablet. Each tablet is slightly smaller than your standard paracetamol and a brown colour. What I noticed about the tablets was that they had a funny smell which was slightly off putting and I thought this would affect me swallowing them but I was fine. I tend to take the two tablets with a drink of water and then retire to bed where I may read for a while. I try to avoid watching television after taking these as I feel that would probably be counter productive.

                    After taking the tablets I noticed that after around half an hour I began to feel very sleepy and relaxed to the point where my eyes were actually closing on and off. Now I have to say I don't tend to have any issues falling asleep as I am often so tired it just happens naturally and so my issue is more about staying asleep but I do notice these tablets make me feel very sleepy indeed. However, despite taking these tablets I am still waking up at stupid o'clock and generally feeling very tired and unrested when I get up in the morning. In terms of helping my body relax and shut down at bed time I cannot fault these tablets but they are not helping me get a full or even restful night sleep which is a shame. I suspect they would be much more helpful for those who just need a little help in falling asleep initially.

                    There are some things to be aware of should you decide to give this medicine a go and these are as follows:
                    -The tablets are not suitable for children under 12 years of age.
                    -If symptoms persist of worsen contact a doctor (That's me then should I ever get any time off work!)
                    -Avoid alcohol whilst using this medicine.
                    -Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery the day after taking the medicine if you are still feeling drowsy.
                    -Seek a doctor's advice before use if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
                    -Do not use if you are taking anti depressant medicine or beta blockers.

                    It is difficult for me to rate this product as yes it helps my body relax and fall asleep but it does not help me in getting a restful nights sleep and this is something it does claim to help with. Perhaps I am just broken though!? I think that a fair rating is three stars and should you wish to try these tablets you can pick them up for around £4.50.

                    Thank you for reading my review!

                      Advantages

                      Disadvantages

                      One of the best remedies for good sleep that i've tried

                      I have alwys been a terrible sleeper since i was a young child, i've had everything from insomnia to horrific night terrors which have forever plagued my sleeping routine and oh what i would give to just be able to get to sleep normally without any problems, sleeping aids or nightmares. But unfortunately it doesn't seem like this is ever going to be the case for me, so i have had to try out a few different types of sleeping remedies to find what works best for me in order for me to live a healthy lifestyle by gaining enough sleep.

                      Those of you who have suffered with sleeping problems will know how badly lack of sleep can effect you during the daytime, i'm sure many of you are familiar with the frustration of being exhausted during the daytime and craving your bed, but then it comes to night time and you actually go to bed, you still can't sleep!

                      I was only about 13 years old when my GP suggested that i try the Herbal Nytol tablets to help me get to sleep, with me being so young he didn't reccomend that i try anything too strong and he thought that the herbal ones would be just right for me.

                      At the time, the tablets came in a little white tub with the Nytol label on it and it contained about 30 tablets at a price of £4.99. Now these tablets come in a Nytol box like the picture above and still contain 30 tablets and you can buy them for £4 - £5 in most chemists. The tablets aren't tiny but they are still small enough to small with ease, they are brown in colour with quite a pungent smell to them with them being herbal.

                      The instructions for taking the Nytol tablets say to take 2 tablets aproximately 1 hour before bedtime, so this is what i did for a few days but when it came time for me to go to bed i still wasn't tired enough to fall asleep. So i was quite disappointed, but i didn't want to give up on them yet. I tried taking them 3 hours before my bedtime instead, which would give them more than enought time to start working, and wow what a difference it made. I couldn't even keep my eyes open until my usual bedtime! I was thrilled that they were actually helping, i was even more thrilled the next morning when i woke up after having actually had a full nights sleep for once! They didn't give me any side effects and they didn't make me feel like i had a "hangover" the next morning as i've heard some sleeping tablets do.

                      I would definetely reccomend Nytol Herbal to those people who are having difficulty getting off to sleep, but as i say take them about 3 hours before it's time to go to bed rather than the 1 hour stated in the directions if you want to get the best results.

                      The tablets are suitable for adults and children over 12 years and the active ingredients it contains are;

                      Valerian Extract
                      Passion Flower
                      Hops

                      Doctors advise to avoid alcohol while taking these tablets and also say they are not suitable for those taking antidepressant medications or propranolol. You should also consult your doctor before using them if you are pregnant or breast feeding.

                        Advantages

                        Disadvantages

                        Doesn't work for everyone

                        Nytol Herbal Tablets

                        I have never been a great sleeper but sometimes I have little bouts where I just get really restless and find it hard to get a good night sleep. After getting grumpier and grumpier, my husband went out and brought these tablets home for me to try a few months ago, in hopes that they might help. My main problem is not falling asleep but staying asleep, I wake up through the night and find I can't return to a nice deep sleep. This weekend just passed I found myself awake at 5am on Sunday morning and after trying to get comfy and back to sleep I gave in, got up and read my book instead, if this pattern continues then that's when I break these herbal tablets out of the medicine drawer.

                        Nytol Herbal are a blend of herbs to soothe and aid restful sleep, something which I am sure is important to everyone. These Nytol herbal tablets contain (among other things), hops, valerian and passion flower, all chosen for their sedative and calming properties.

                        These are really easy to use. Just take two with a glass of water about an hour before you go to bed. Personally, I try and give these as much help as possible to work and after I have taken them I try and relax, I have a shower, I use a face mask, I get cosy and read my book. I try all the little tricks to help me feel settled and ready for bed.

                        The important question - Do these work? Well yes and no. I have had some mixed experiences with these, I have on occasion found that after taking them I have had a nice peaceful sleep during a period of time where I have been struggling to do so.

                        I would never treat these as a regular part of my night time routine, I try and use these tablets as sparsely as possible. Usually when I want to break the cycle of restless sleep, then I tend to sleep well for a period of time until it starts all over again.

                        You can usually buy these for around £5 for 30 tablets at most supermarkets or pharmacies.

                        It is usually common sense to read the warning labels and instructions before taking any sort of medication, even of the herbal variety.

                        I think that even when I haven't always had success with these I would still recommend trying them. These get a hopeful four out of five stars from me. If you do try these I hope they work for you and I hope you get a restful, peaceful and good night sleep.

                          Advantages

                          Disadvantages

                          Who knows, it could work for you?

                          I am a bit of a self-confessed insomniac. I have tried, and failed, so many different brands of herbal sleeping tables I have lost count. My expectations of Nytol were no different and I didn't hold out any hope.

                          The tablets are contained within foil sealed blister packs regardless of which size packet you have bought. They are all securely sealed and I have never had any broken and thus wasted tablets. Needless to say blister style packets are not child proof and a product such as this should be kept well out of the way of tiny fingers and mouths to avoid any nasty accidents!

                          Nytol is made out of (active ingredients) a mixture of hops, valerian and passion flower. With the following thrown in for good measure: Calcium hydrogen phosphate, microcrystalline cellulose (E460), stearic acid, magnesium stearate, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (E464), polyethylene glycol, iron oxides (E172), titanium dioxide (E171).

                          "* Hops are sedative and induce sleep
                          * Valerian is sedative, calming and induces sleep
                          * Passion flower is sedative and induces sleep"

                          Nytol is suitable for anyone over the age of 12 and you should take 2 tablets one hour before bedtime, swallowed with water. The tablets are of average size and I found them easy to swallow, although I do know family members who have difficulty so they just swallow with a bit of toast or something small to make it easier.

                          As previously said, I wasn't holding out much hope for these tablets, and unfortunately they did nothing to ease my restless nights, but then this probably due to the severity of my insomnia and ideally I should be taking medicated tablets, which i loath to take due to the drowsiness I still feel the next morning. As with all herbal remedies the effects vary person to person and I do know people who take Nytol and it works just fine for them and they are very pleased with and rave about it.

                          Advantages

                          Disadvantages

                          I was surprised how well they worked for me

                          Last week I had laser eye surgery (review to follow once I've had my last appointment and can paint a complete picture), and at the clinic they suggested I buy some herbal sleeping tablets. I had to have the painful version of surgery (LASEK), and as I was in agony afterwards - despite the strong painkillers - I thought I would try anything to take my mind off the pain.

                          The sleeping tablets I bought were Nytol Herbal tablets, which cost £4.38 for 30 tablets (Asda's price as of mid April 2010). This was a little more than I was expecting to pay but I didn't have much choice as there were no other herbal tablets on the shelf. They come in a green box and don't contain that many ingredients - most of them are herby type things which is what you'd expect. There's also information about taking them, which is to say you take 2 at a time an hour before sleeping, and don't exceed the recommended dose, and information of possible side effects - none of which are particularly bad.

                          As I was in so much pain I have to say that I didn't (or more accurately couldn't) even see the tablets on the first use, and my mum gave them to me with a glass of water. After the first time though I could inspect them properly and they turned out to be small brown round tablets. I read a review which said that they smelled horrible and I didn't notice any smell until I purposely sniffed them - and yes they do smell disgusting. Kind of like old mud and vegetation kept in a shed for a few months. They are small and easy to swallow though, and they don't really taste of anything so if you don't smell them deliberately you'll be fine!

                          I have to say that these tablets worked really well, because despite the pain I got to sleep relatively soon after taking them, although I was stressed out and in shock. Over the next week I took a couple more doses, and both times I was asleep within an hour or an hour and a half. I'm pretty impressed with how good these are, though I should probably point out that I very rarely take tablets (with that said these were better than my strong painkillers really), so they tend to take effect quite strongly. I didn't suffer any of the listed side effects such as sickness, diarrhoea etc., so all in all I think these are great.

                          When I took them I'd sleep for about eight or nine hours and wake up feeling refreshed and not groggy or headachy, which was a plus for me because my eyes were giving me enough trouble on their own. I was considering knocking a star off for the price but I you do get fifteen nights' worth for your money and they couldn't have done a better job for me so I'm giving them the full five.
