Advantages: Slightly relaxes you
Disadvantages: Doesn't send you to sleep
So after a few restless nights where I was going to bed at around 5am because I just couldn't sleep I thought about looking for a sleep aid and looked for a product in my local asda. I was stuck between a choice of kalms sleeping tablets and nytol herbal tablets. Having experienced kalms in the normal form and having had little results I decided to try the nytol herbal tablets. These were most costly being priced at £4.83 in asda so I thought well I'll just give it a try and see what happens.
***Product Description***
The nytol herbal tablets come in a green cardboard box containing 30 tablets. There is a nice illustration of a cloud and a moon which I guess its supposed to make you think of a nice peaceful night snoozing. It says on the front that it is a new formulation and that it is "A blend of herbs to soothe and so aid restful sleep". It tells you the main three ingredients on the front which are hops, valerian, and passion flower. It warns you on the side of the box to consult your doctor if your symptons persist, to avoid alchohol when taking the medicine and not to operate machinery or drive when taking the tablets.
It also says to not take if :-
*taking anti-depressents
*taking propranolol
and to seek advice if pregnant or breast feeding.
On the back of the packet we are told what each of the three main ingredients are supposed to do.
Hops - are sedative and induce sleep
Valerian - is sedative, calming and induces sleep
Passion flower - is sedative and induces sleep
Dosage - It is oral tablets and tells you to swallow whole with water.
Adults, Elderly and Children over 12 can take 2 tablets one hour before bedtime but you are not supposed to give them to children under the age of 12.
You are also told not to exceed the stated dose and to seek medical advice if you do.
Each tablet contains 200mg of hops, 160mg valerian and 130mg of passion flower.
There is also a information leaflet with much more information enclosed inside the packet as well.
****So does it work? ******
Well it gets to bedtime and so I opens the what I hope is my cure to my sleep problem and am greeted with a most revoulting smell. The tablets are like a greyish/brown/green colour and smell fishy and musty which is very unappealing. They remind me somewhat of some unpleasent vitamin supplements. Anyway after taking the tablets and waiting a while I suppose I felt more calmer but can't exactly say I felt more sleepy. The most benefit I would say that this product actually gave was more in the morning in that I felt like I had had a better night's sleep. I don't think I would spend the amount of what it orginally costed to get this product again as I don't really think it had much of an effect.
