Advantages: very strong so economical to use

Disadvantages: tend to stain bedlinen

My Mum always used to swear by Vick when we were children.
In the days before central heating and double glazing, my brothers and my sister used to suffer from heavy colds in the winter months.

Then a few years ago my friend told me about Olbas oil and since then a bottle has always been in my medicine cabinet.

The price is around £2 for a 10 ml bottle which may sound expensive but it lasts for ages.

The packaging is unmistakeable - shades of green with a bright orange top and clear white writing and can be found in chemists as well as Superdrug, Lloyds Wilkinsons etc

It is known primarily for being an inhalant congestant.

It is very strong and contains the following ingredients
-
clove
eucalyptus
mint
caluput
winter green

but as it is so strong it warns you on both the box and the bottle to keep away from children.

It can be used in the following ways

1. As a steam inhalant ( just add a few drops to a bowl of freshly boiled water - lean over with a towel wrapped over the head & take deep breaths)

2. On a tissue - just a couple of drops should do the trick - just sniff as required

3. Shake the bottle with a few drops onto a pillow but be warned - not too much - I overdid this on my daughter's pillow & she had sore eyes for a hour!

My friend's children suffer from asthma and hayfever and she says it works very well as it helps open-up the airways.

Just one disadvantage I've found - it does tend to stain bedlinen/ cotton hankies.

Summary: a super inhalant decongestant

This is really good stuff and,as you say, the small bottle lasts for ages.
