Advantages: Different uses and fast acting
Disadvantages: None
As my daughter tends to suffer from constant colds and running noses I always like to keep a little bottle of Olbas Oil in my medicine cabinet. I hadn't realised just how useful this little bottle of oil can be!
==A Bit About The Oil==
Olbas Oil is a blend of essential oils which give off a pleasant and not too overpowering aroma to aid nasal congestion or a blocked nose. Unlike some decongestants with a strong menthol aroma Olbas Oil has a really nice, refreshing, herby smell, which instantly seems to clear congestion.
The oil comes in a little glass bottle with a dropper top allowing you to use the oil one drop at a time. You can apply a few drops to a tissue and inhale the vapour giving instant relief to a blocked and stuffy nose. If I am bothered with congestion it always seems to be worse at night time, usually keeping me off my sleep. I find applying a few drops of Olbas Oil to my pillow, well away from where my face might be, helps me to have a good night's sleep. For children, if using the oil during the night, it would probably be more preferable to put a few drops on a tissue and place the tissue inside the pillowcase or by the bedside. My daughter is always very stuffed up at night time and sometimes has very restless nights but the Olbas Oil always helps her to sleep soundly.
==Other Uses For Olbas Oil==
Olbas Oil can be rubbed on muscles to give relief to aches and pains. I find this quite a relaxing feeling and it does give a slight relief to minor muscle pain although I prefer it as a relaxing massage oil.
I also read another use recently in a magazine, which my teenage son has been trying out. Put a few drops of Olbas Oil in a small bowl of boiling water and hold your face above the bowl with a towel over your head allowing the scented steam to open your pores. This apparently is a gentle way of helping prevent spots, the steam opens your pores whilst the vapour from the Olbas Oil helps to clean out your pores. After a few minutes you should clean your skin gently with a cotton wool pad. My son has found this quite useful. He has very dry sensitive skin and although he is lucky enough only to be bother by one or two spots every now and again, he is still very self conscious of them and finds spot remedies a bit too harsh for his skin type. The Olbas Oil has proved to be a very useful way for my son to keep his skin clear.

Care should always be taken when using this product and you should always read the leaflet enclosed. Olbas Oil is suitable for use from 3 months.
Also available in the Olbas range is a Vaporiser, which is battery operated, no need to plug it in, Olbas Tissues, Olbas Bath, Olbas Children, a milder oil for the little ones and Olbas Pastilles.
The Olbas Oil is available in a 28ml bottle and prices in the shops range from about £3.39 - £3.69, although I have seen it cheaper online, but I suppose once postage charges have been added then there may not be much difference.
I would definitely recommend keeping a bottle of Olbas Oil in the house, it's great stuff.
Thanks for reading.
