Introduction

My little six year old had his tonsils and adenoids removed about four months ago now as he was constantly being subjected to very serious throat infections which required him on a number of occasions to be hospitalised. Thankfully now he is absolutely fine and we have had no further issues around this however I had started to notice that he was getting a bit nasally congested. This too has eased off a bit however on the occasions that he does experience these symptoms I apply a little bit of olbas oil near to his pillow and this goes someway to easing the problem.

The Product

The Olbas oil I give him is the children's variation of the product a slightly diluted version which is recommended for use by babies and children over the age of three months old. The product quite simply is inhalant decongestant oil. The purpose of it is that the oils natural vapours relieve children's blocked noses. It has the active ingredients Cajuput oil, clove oil, eucalyptus, levomenthol, and mint oil to name but a few. As you can imagine as a result of all of these items it is quite potent.



The Packaging

The item really stands out on the shelf as the outer cardboard packaging is bright orange and yellow. It highlights specifically that this is the children's Olbas oil however be aware if you require the adult version of the products do look closely as they are quite similar so make sure that you pick up the correct item. The children's version however has a picture of a cute teddy bear asleep on the front of the packaging. The box is tiny and a 10ml bottle of the oil cost me £2.10. I thought that this was quite a reasonable price as you only use a few drops at a time. The inner product comes in a little brown medicine plastic bottle with similar colours to the outer box. There is a handy screw top and the inside of the bottle has a dropper which makes for ease of dispensing the correct dose.



Application

It is important to read the leaflet enclosed with the product as it gives instructions for dispersal.
Children 3 months - 2 years place four drops onto a tissue and hold close to the nose allowing the child to breathe in the vapour. At night time sprinkle the recommended dose onto a tissue and place in the room out of the Childs reach.
Children 2-6 years place up to twelve drops on a tissue and use as above. You can also place the drops into hot water and inhale the vapours if you wish. I put the tissue next to my son's bed at night and he can breathe in the vapours this way.



Other Info

Be aware do not pour this product directly onto children's clothing or skin and do not let them use this unsupervised. Be aware under no circumstances should this be used by children under the age of three months old. Read the product ingredients before use to ensure that your child is not allergic to any of the ingredients contained within. Ensure adequate storage of the bottle and do not exceed temperatures above 25 degrees.



Advantages


This product really works and it certainly seems to relieve the problems associated with congestion very quickly. It is also useful for use if children have colds, catarrh, hay fever and blocked sinuses. I was very pleased with the results and it certainly helped my son with his problems.




Disadvantages

The smell of the oil is extremely overpowering however this can be overlooked due to its fabulous results.
