Advantages: Soothes and is cooling, it is antibiotic so i think the best on the market

Disadvantages: Have to keep it in the fridge all the time

I first heard about Optrex for Infected Eyes when I visited my GP with a particularly nasty case of conjunctivitis (gunky eyes which were hot and red and felt as if they were full of bits of sand). He was going to write me a prescription for the active ingredient in these eye drops then said "Oh actually, there is a product which has just come out and it isn't on prescription- ask the pharmacist for it" and he recommended I find this as it would be cheaper than the prescription.

I went into my local Asda pharmacy and asked for this- the pharmacist brought it out of one of their fridges and sold me it over the counter. It costs around £4.99 for a bottle which looks just like an eyedrop bottle. The rules are you HAVE to keep it in the fridge which is a little awkward if you get it at lunchtime and have to go to work. You apply one drop to each eye every hour for the first 24 hours then one drop to each eye every four hours for the next four days and you have to keep this up for the total five days.

Unlike other eye drops, this did not sting when I put it in my eyes but I did notice a strange taste at the back of my throat which was quite reassuring. It soothed my eyes and within the five day course it cleared up my eye infection a dream. I had to leave myself notes to remember it was in the fridge at work and to remember to get it out of the fridge at home, but this is the only drawback. It is hte best eye drops product I have used and I have suffered from conjunctivitis around 6 times in my life.

I would definitely recommend it and you don't even need to see a GP to buy it. It contains antibiotics so it has scientific properties to actually treat an infection- its not just purified water as a lot of eye drops are.

Summary: I would recommend this for eye infections as I haven't used anything as good
