Advantages: Works instantly

Disadvantages: Can irritate the nasal passage and can become reliant

Everyone hates having the cold. Everytime I get the cold my sinuses are instantly attacked and breathing out of my nose is literally impossible. I've tried a variety of things to ease this such as inhalant vapour sticks, sinus tablets and putting Vicks into a bowl with hot water and (attempting) to breathe it in but nothing was completely effective. In my local savers they were selling sudafed nose spray for £3.59 so I decided it couldn't hurt and purchased some to try and soothe my blocked nose.

The instructions state that you have to spray once or twice into each nostril, and I would do this upside down as the product runs otherwise! It drips a bit down my throat which tasted totally disgusting and left a bad taste in my mouth but I felt that it must be worth it! After about 5 minutes my nose miraculously cleared and I was able to breathe through my nose with no discomfort whatsoever. At this point I was incredibly impressed with the product and considered it as a lifesaver during colds and the flu!

One major disadvantage to the product is that it dries out the nasal passage making the nose and throat feel very irritated after a while. Upon the first use of the product it works wonders but after between 3 and 6 hours my blocked nose was back with a vengeance, making me reach for the nose spray once again and before I knew it I couldn't get through the day without it. The instructions do advise the consumer to avoid using the product for more than 5 days to minimise the risk of irritating and harming the nasal passage, and also there are theories that nasal passages swell automatically after a certain amount of time and become reliant on the nasal sprays making it difficult to stop using them.

I would recommend this product as quick relief, it is effective for unblocking the nasal passage during the time of having a cold or flu, but I wouldn't recommend this to people who have chronic sinus pain or have problematic sinuses which cause them to have a constantly blocked nose. This product is appropriate for short term use but be careful not to use it over 5 days and ensure that there are long periods of time between each use.

Summary: Good for short term use
