Advantages: Pleasant taste & fast acting.

Disadvantages: Price.

Being a fussy little madam when it comes to medicines, I quite often won't take anything when ill unless it is in tablet form. The same goes for mouth ulcer remedies.

I can't stand the taste of the gels such as Bonjella etc, and would rather just suffer the pain until the ulcer goes away.
A while back, mother dearest introduced me to Rinstead Pastilles, and I haven't unnecessarily suffered since - I love these things!

Each box contains 24 pastilles; individually wrapped in a blister pack, and an information leaflet.
Although the packaging looks a little dated (see dooyoo item picture), it is fairly easy to find on the chemists shelves (expect to pay around £2.79 per pack).

These pastilles are sugar free (excellent), and are "for temporary relief of pain and discomfort caused by mouth ulcers and denture sore spots".
They are a deep, (almost blood) red colour, and are about the size of a 5 pence piece (but obviously thicker). They are firm, but chewable (think Rowntrees Fruit Gums, but without the gluing-your-teeth together effect).

They are however designed to dissolve slowly in the mouth, (rather than being chewed); releasing an antiseptic [Cetylpyridinium chloride] to help heal the sore, but also Menthol to help soothe the discomfort.

The best thing about these pastilles for me is the fact that not only do they work, but they also taste quite pleasant!
It is a strange taste - the easiest way to describe it I suppose would be like a milder version of something like fruity menthol cough sweets.

They are recommended for use by those aged 12 and over, & to "allow one pastille to dissolve slowly in the mouth about every 2 hours".
I find this works best by holding the pastille on or around the ulcer for maximum numbing effect.
For treatment of an 'average' (i.e not a hugely nasty) ulcer, I tend to only need 2-4 pastilles tops, so with 24 in a pack this does give you good longevity from each box (which is where the long use-by date comes in handy).

Pregnant women can take this medicine, but are (as always) recommended to consult their GP first.

At just under £3, they aren't the cheapest (you can find store own-brand versions of these), but for Little Miss Fussy here (and her Mr Fussy!), the taste of Rinstead (and excellent results) is much preferred.

I'm sure a lot of people prefer the 'one application & done' approach to mouth ulcer medicine, but for those who can't stand the stuff, I think these are a great alternative.

Summary: Great item to keep in the medicine cabinet for when little nasties appear.

Oh wow! Like you I always suffer with an ulcer as I hate all those gels. I had no idea such things as this existed. Thank you :)
