Advantages: Easy to swallow, effective in helping the chesty cough and pain
Disadvantages: None from me other than that slightly sickly sweet taste!
We all know how horrible it can be when we are suffering with a nasty cold and cough, for me the worst part about catching the cold is knowing or rather not knowing how long it is going to be going on for. I can have a cold that will be gone within a couple of days but if I am really unlucky then I end up catching a cough that will develop into a nasty cough and if this happens then I know that I am going to be suffering for a good couple of weeks, I tend not to bother going to the doctors unless I feel really poorly and instead try something that I can get in a high street chemist and the one brand that I tried last was the Robituddin Chesty Cough Mixture Syrup. Here are my thoughts.
The cough mixture comes in a 100ml bottle and it is priced at around the £3.00 to £3.50 mark. It is something that I was able to pick up in my local branch of Tesco, this has a pharmacy and I was able to get it there. I am guessing it can be found in most Pharmacy's and will be around the above price. Some high street stores may also stock it. It can also be purchased via Amazon but there are further questions you need to respond to before you can get the item.
The cough mixture comes in a cardboard box and it is a bright red colour. On the front is the brand and name of the product and that it is for chesty coughs. There is a good breakdown of information on the reverse of the box, there is n ingredients listing as well as directions for use and reasons that this cough mixture will help you. The cough mixture takes the form of a liquid and there is a good tight cap that sits on the top of the bottle.
The cough mixture is sugar free and non-drowsy which are big plus points, I didn't want to be taking something that was going to make me fall asleep a couple of hours later. Whilst I cannot remember the exact dosage information I can remember that you took a spoonful of the mixture and then wouldn't be allowed to take any more for the following 3 hours, I think it was about this time scale but for me the most important thing is the effectiveness of the product.
I have to say that the product is quite thick in texture and it is quite a sweet taste, I did not really struggle when taking it so I was keen to see what it was like. The product is meant to stop some of the coughing and take some of the pain away from the chest area and I have to say that this worked really well. The product at first made me cough that little bit more but with this brought up some of the nasty stuff that you associate with a cough but this was then clearing my chest area and making it feel far less tight and I felt that I was not quite so breathless after taking this for a couple of times. As I continued to use the cough mixture I found that the muscles around my chest and even the top of my throat were not quite so painful and suddenly the cough became more manageable.
In summary, I am more than happy to recommend this product, it helped me and whilst others it may not be so successful for, I was really pleased that it helped me. It is not for tickly coughs, there is a separate product for this but for those suffering with a really chesty cough this really did work well for me and with no side effects.
4 out of 5 from me on this one
