* This review will discuss bodily functions, so if talking about poo makes you nauseous then now's the time to click away. Don't say you haven't been warned. I live with a condition called hypermobility and an aspect of this syndrome is weak joints that often give way leading to permanent damage and in my case a lot of pain. Among the different medications I take to control this pain is Codeine, which provides fairly good pain relief but with the price of moderate to severe constipation (which is also a symptom of hypermobility in itself). The vast majority of the time I keep the constipation in check by limiting my codeine intake and ensuring I eat lots of ... Read the complete review

In recent weeks I have suffered from constipation to varying degrees. Unfortunately this is a side effect of a specific medication I take, so I have become adept in treating it myself without having to visit the doctor and discuss this rather embarrassing ailment. Usually I will try upping the fruit and vegetables in my diet, perhaps eating a few squares of high quality dark chocolate, to help move things along. This time, however, I was well and truly bunged up - apologies, but there really is no other way to describe it. Essentially the senna (active ingredient in the laxative) will stimulate the small bowel, making it contract (and feel like cramps down below) and move the 'waste' downwards. You may also feel some pressure on the anus once the laxatives begin to work. I would say it's best to go with how your body feels on this one rather to force your body to push out anything. I first discovered these laxatives after the smaller dosage tablets began to get ... Read the complete review

I never usually get constipated but recently after 2 weeks on antibiotics and painkillers I found myself, as the saying goes, bunged up. I tried the extra fruit and fibre but it was obvious I needed a kick start so I went and got some Senokot Max Strength. They can be found in chemists and most supermarkets. Tesco sell them for £3.56 for 24 tablets. *The Box* Senokot Max Strength come in a green box. The name is on the front and the words "Gentle effective constipation relief" are written underneath. Also the claims that Senokot Max Strength are Double the strength of Senokot Tablets They work within 8-12 ... Read the complete review

Many things can be a cause of constipation, some minor however some more serious so if you regularly have problems with constipation it is vital to consult a doctor. The most common cause of constipation is a lack fibre in the diet or a change in your normal diet particularly when trying to lose weight and a third cause is if you are taking medicines in particular painkillers. There are a lot of laxatives on the market for occasional constipation, but the one I use and have in my cupboard always, is Senokot Max strength, which contains natural Senna. Senna is a natural ingredient extracted from the Senna plant and works by stimulatiing the ... Read the complete review
