Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing Cream
Advantages: A useful over the counter topical cream.
Disadvantages: Some might feel it expensive but cheaper creams are not necessarily the best.
SudoCrem antiseptic Cream.
Sudocrem has been around for as long as I can remember and we used it on our daughter and now we use it on our granddaughter primarily as a preventative measure against nappy rash. She has on occasion had a small nasty nappy rash at one time.
My mother used to joke when we declared my daughter never had nappy rash........she used to say well that's because you plaster the poor devil in the stuff. I am a firm believer in the use of Sudocrem and have used it both as a parent /grandparent and also in a professional capacity. I would however give a warning that the antiseptic nature of the cream means that sometimes it destroys the normal balance of flora on the skin thereby allowing opportunistic fungal infections to develop such as thrush. I have seen this in both babies and adults. (The simplest way of clearing this up quickly is with Natural yoghurt by the way.)
So what does Sudocrem look like?
Sudocrem is a white tacky thick cream which has not an unpleasant smell but is not repugnant either it is chemical smelling but it is ok. Once on the fingers it feels nice, soft and smooth to the touch.
Contains the following ingredients.
Lanolin, Zinc Oxide, Benzyl Cinnamate, Benzyl alcohol and Benzyl Benzoate. The combination of these properties provide antiseptic, disinfectant, anaesthetic and anti acaricidals to kill mites or worm infections. It also encourages healing by keeping the skin moisturised and as a barrier to urine and or faeces coming into contact with the skin.
The carrier for these healing chemicals include Liquid Paraffin, Paraffin wax, synthetic beeswax citric acid and Lavender all known to help soothe and moisturise the skin and act as a barrier in the healing process.
What can it be used for?
Sudocrem can be used for a wide variety of conditions and should be part of your homely remedies in your medicine cabinet. Well obviously nappy rash in babies or in the elderly if there is incontinence. It is useful for cuts and grazes but not deep wounds, eczema or dermatitis, minor burns and sunburn, spots and pimples, and even chilblains. It can be used for cyclists or horse riders to prevent chaffing of the skin.
A friend of mine used it on her horse just recently after it had been bitten in a delicate place causing swelling. It helped immensely because of its soothing effect and also acted as a barrier against chaffing against its inner legs and also prevented further biting by midges.
IF you have any sensitivity to any of the ingredients then you should use it with caution however on the whole it has been found to be very safe and effective in treating adults and babies alike.( And horses apparently). If symptoms persist or you have an allergic reaction then stop immediately and seek medical attention.

I whole heartedly give my approval of this very useful and versatile product and thing it is an essential and very useful tool in the treatment of minor ailments. Sudocrem is worth a much higher rating than five stars and is useful for almost everyone.
Summary: Something that everyones medicine cabinet should have.
