Advantages: Kicks tension headaches into touch.
Disadvantages: Possible dizziness and drowsiness.
A friend recommended Syndol to me when I told her of the almost migraine-like headaches I suffered at times due to an old injury which caused pain and tension in my shoulders and head.
These tablets don't seem to be that well known, although there are adverts starting to be shown on tv so the message is spreading.
-------------------------
They contain:
Paracetamol BP
Codeine Phosphate BP
Doxylamine Suuccinate NF
Caffeine BP
A dose of 1-2 tablets is recommended every 4-6 hours, not exceeding 8 tablets a day. Not recommended for children under 12. They come in packs of 10, 20 or 30 tablets.
-------------------------------
I have seen reviews which complain of getting addicted, which in bad cases I'm sure could be possible as they are excellent pain killers and certainly can bring about a wonderfully sleepy state, but they do have warnings on the box about long term use and the substances involved.
The box does state that Syndol works on tension headaches as the Doxylamine Succinate in the tablet is a muscle relaxant, although they help with migraines and other general aches too. I do find that they may take lightly longer to kick in but once they do its one hell of a kick!
I must say that I have never felt addicted to them, and only take them when I feel a bad headache coming on. On the contrary, I find that after about an hour the pain is disappearing but they can make me feel slightly off balance and certainly drowsy - something I can happily put up with because its preferable to the pain. I have found that these side effects have become stronger as my osteopath has loosened the problems in my back, so I sometimes only need to take one tablet instead of two. It is also not good to take them on an empty stomach as this will enhance the side effects.
Please don't be put off by the side effects though - they will affect people on different levels and they are worth it - the best pain killer I have ever taken. I in turn have recommended it to my boyfriend and other friends who all swear by it.
If taken sensibly, as directed, there is no reason for these tablets to cause any more of a problem than any other strong painkiller.
At times when I would otherwise have been incapable of anything they have enabled me to carry on with my life - surely worth a bit of wooziness?!
Summary: The best headache painkiller I've found - my saviour.

- 18/05/09 I have driven whilst on them, never had a problem. Depends how tired you feel really. It seems to be down to how they make each individual feel. Best way is to try them out and see what they do to you. Some people might not be affected at all |
