Advantages: Easy to swallow, low price and highly effective
Disadvantages: None for me
Whilst tending my garden on a warm day last month I began to experience the uncomfortable symptoms of sore and itchy eyes together with a tickly nose and sore throat. I initially suspected I was coming down with a cold, particularly as I am prone to catching every bug that is doing the rounds. An hour or so later I developed further symptoms where my eyes were continuously running, which led me to believe I was suffering from either an allergy or hay fever. I decided to wait until the following morning and if the symptoms were still present I would visit Tesco to purchase a product to assist me.
As I felt dreadful the following morning I decided to make a purchase of some tablets suitable for hay fever and allergies. There were so many different brands from which to choose; all of which seemed to serve the same purpose. As a result, I opted for the cheapest, particularly as I wasn't 100% certain of my condition and this review discusses my experience with using Tesco Hayfever and Allergy Relief, which cost me just 47p for a packet of 7 tablets.
I was pleased to note that Tesco has considered the needs of those with impaired or loss of vision, as the front of the packet contains Braille. As I was not that familiar with hay fever or allergy relief remedies I had no idea of what ingredients to look out for and by studying the packaging on the various brands I discovered that cetirizine hydrochloride, which is a antihistamine, is the active ingredient with 10mg being contained in each tablet. In addition to being suitable for hay fever the tablets can be used for a variety of allergies such as dust, skin and pets.
The tiny tablets measuring less than a centimetre in length are hygienically stored in foil bubble style packaging and were effortlessly removed. The recommended dose for adults and children over the age of 12 years is to take one tablet a day and for children under 12 years, half a tablet a day. I found the tablets extremely easy to swallow with water, particularly as they are coated with film and there was no bitter after taste.
I must admit that I didn't have high expectations, particularly as I was unsure of the reason for my symptoms. However, within an hour I was beginning to feel much better and my sore, itchy and running eyes returned to normal as did my sore throat and tickling nose. I initially put this down to coincidence, but when I experienced identical symptoms within minutes of working in my garden the following day one tablet once again worked its magic. This happened on a further occasion and I haven't a clue if it was hay fever or an allergy that I had suffered. I have since repurchased these tablets as I found them absolutely remarkable, which is something I really was not expecting.
There is a double sided leaflet enclosed within the box providing detailed user information, together with the usual do's and don'ts. One point that pleased me is that the tablets do not cause drowsiness. Unfortunately, the tablets contain lactose so are not suitable for those who have an intolerance.
There is a lengthy list of side effects contained on the reverse of the leaflet, but I cannot admit that I suffered any problems whilst using. There is a good expiry date on the side of the packet, which is two and a half years away. Hopefully, I will find that I do not need these tablets again as the last time I suffered similar symptoms was more than twenty years ago. I cannot recommend these tablets highly enough as they were extremely effective and quickly relieved my symptoms.
I have looked on Tesco website for a current price and they only have the packet of 14 listed at 90p, which is excellent value for money when compared with the brand names.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
