Advantages: Gives temporary and much needed relief
Disadvantages: It isn't a cure!
This past week I've had a terrible cold once again! With a bad immune system I always seem to be coming down with something or other and this cold has been terrible and one I'm still having trouble shaking still!
Knowing that my Dr cant do much about it, when I was just becoming ill I popped to my local Tesco store with my mate as she was coming down with it at the same time as me and so we pooled our cash and stocked up on stuff to help us out.
The Packaging:
The bottle holds 200ml of the medicine and it comes in a dark brown but rather see through glass bottle with a white screw on/off lid to the top of it and around the bottle there is silver and turquoises label around it and to the front of that we are told that it is Tesco mentholated Bronchial Balsam 'Menthol 1mg, Aniseed Oil 3.5ml and Capsicum Tincture 25mcl Per 5ml' and that its to help with 'Relieving coughs, colds, catarrh & sore throats, none drowsy' and the size is stated as I have listed already. Other information on the back of the bottle includes being told a bit about the product, dosage advice is given as are warnings and the ingredients and contact details for Tescos. Informative enough bottle of medicine this is which of course it needs to be!
Dosage Advice:
Liquid for oral use.
Adults and children over 12 years : Take two or three 5ml spoonfuls (10ml to 15ml).
Children from 6 to 12 years: Take one or two 5ml spoonfuls (5ml to 10ml).
The above doses may be taken every 2-3 hours.
My Opinion On The Medicine:
This offers really good temporary relief for sore throats in particular. The dark brown medicine is thickish and tastes sweet and with a strong aniseed flavour with the menthol added which also temporarily soothes the throat and opens up the airways! The flavour is pleasant but strong and like I keep saying this really does only give temporary relief! However that relief is temporary and this offers immediate and effective results however those results, apart from it clearing my nose only lasts a few minutes even though I took three 5ml spoonfuls every 2 hours and on the hour for days!
The nose clearing though I found with that dose was very helpful as I was rather stuffed and bunged up till taking this and I didn't suffer with that although my sore throat and things wasn't given too much help sadly.
All in all though this is a good enough medicine. It sooths the throat and makes it less dry and stopped me coughing for a short time and as I have said this did keep my stuffy nose at bay for the duration of taking it if nothing much else!
A good buy, but not a miracle cure this is great stuff that only costs 98p a bottle and is available from Tescos and from Tesco.com
Summary: Good medicine on the cheap!
