Advantages: Effective and cheap

Disadvantages: Not to be taken when pregnant or breastfeeding

I suffer from mild asthma and also allergies to house dust and feathers. For the last few years I have had occasional bouts of sneezing, followed by a very sore throat and runny nose. This was not much of a problem until recently, as it always cleared up quickly, leading me to believe that it was an allergy to something, rather than a cold. Over the last few months, however, I have been feeling as though I have a permanent cold which wouldn't go away. I decided to try taking an allergy relief medication to see if it had any effect, as I had tried a variety of them in the past, such as Clarityn (the brand name for Loratadine) and a herbal remedy when I was pregnant.

Tesco Non-Drowsy Hayfever and Allergy Relief Tablets come in a box of seven to be taken once a day. The medication is Loratadine 10 mg, and they cost just 49 pence per box, which is much cheaper than some other makes, such as Boots own brand and Clarityn. With brand names you are mainly just paying for the name and packaging, but the drug is exactly the same as the cheaper brands.

The tablets can be taken to give fast acting relief from hayfever, as well as skin allergies, dust allergies and pet allergies. It is to be used by adults and children over the age of two years and weighing more than 30 kg.

I have found that taking the tablets daily for the last few weeks has made me feel much better. I no longer have sneezing fits, sore throats and a blocked but runny nose. I certainly don't feel completely better, but I have had a lot of relief from taking these tablets. They are not suitable to take if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and as I am keen to have another baby in the near future, I shall have to stop taking them fairly soon. At the moment, though, I have found them to be effective relief at a very reasonable price. I have not suffered from any side effects when taking the tablets.

Summary: Fast acting relief from hayfever and allergies
