Advantages: Cheap

Disadvantages: Not suitable for pain from menstruation

When was the last time you heard of a drug company making a loss?

Drugs require investment for the research, but when it comes to producing the actual drug, they can be extremely cheap. It is therefore no surprise that for those products which do not have a patent the possibility to deliver on the shelf an affordable product exists.

Tesco sells Paracetamol tablets in a nice box containing 16 of them, in 2 strips of 8 each for 15 pennies. Each caplet is 500mg, which makes it a bit bigger than similar products and requires me to take a good gulp of water to swallow it.

But let's start from the beginning. Paracetamol is used to relieve mild pain, particularly of non inflammatory nature (the pain we experience during our period, for example, is of inflammatory nature and Paracetamol can do very little to reduce it)

Normally any dental pain, back pain, and migraines of any degree and strenght can be mitigated by Paracetamol. Paracetamol also help in case of colds.

The Tesco Paracetamol lasts 3 years and given its cost, it is an investment well worth making. I am lucky in many respects because although I have a very demanding day at work, I can be very tired, but I have so far not experienced migraines or headaches. A good hot bath is all I need.

However, I suffer from colds in winter and this is when I use Paracetamol. I also think that it is nice to have some Paracetamol at home in case one of our guests need it, not that we cause headaches to them, but I have a couple of female friends who suffer from migraine and although they go around with their drugs all the time, I feel better knowing that I have an emergency Paracetamol at home.

Like any other drug, I try to take as little as possible, I cannot say of any problem I had in taking it, but I am sure that the less, the better.

The only drawback of this product is that is quite chunky and it is not easy to swallow, but the price makes it a real bargain.

Summary: Good to have at home
