when we tried a regular shop brand cough medicine for my partner it was a bit of a flop, so now that my nephew is starting to show signs of a cold we have bought him some tixylix cough medicine as other parents have recommended this and said it's not quite so unpleasent to take as some of the other brands.

He is only five and has only one week left to complete the school term and he really loves it now the headmaster has promised that any child completing 100% attendance will be presented with a certificate and a small present so he's adamant that he will go.

THE PACKAGING.

The actual medicine is in a yellow box,with tixylix written right across the front in red lettering there is a picture of a small child blowing a whistle at the bottom of the box and the words sugar and colour safe. It also states that it contains guaifenesin, It says no drowsiness which is vital as we don't want him dropping to sleep in the classroom. The flavour is blackcurrant,and it's for one to ten year olds.

It is a 100ml box,and costs £3-39 from the local chemist. On the side it explains that children often suffer from chesty coughs and cattarh after a cold. Tixylix has been formulated to contain an effective expectorant,(guaifenesin). It helps loosen excess phlegm in lungs and airways,and thereby makes your child's cough more productive,and their breathing easier.

You can help by keeping your child warm,and giving them plenty of liquids. Tixylix has a measuring spoon to give the correct dosage but most chemists if asked will be only to happy to supply a little measuring cup which makes it far easier to give your child his medicine.

The correct dosage for a five year old is 5ml one spoons but with the small measuring cups it is easier to just fill it to the 10ml mark,and they feel much more grown up. For a one to year old it would be 2.5ml. It also contains glycerol, sorbitol, sodium saccharin
,sodium benzoate,propylene glycol.

THE TASTE TEST.

I am happy to say that he took the medicine quite happily after insisting we tasted it with him and it does taste very strongly of blackcurrant but doesn't leave any nasty after taste. He seemd to pick up after a couple of days so hopefully the medicine will live up to it's claims. His cough has eased considerably,and he's sleeping easier too so that's a good sign. I recommend this and any after effects I will report if so needed but to my mind it is working well.
