Ultra Chloraseptic Throat Spray
Advantages: Instant pain relief.
Disadvantages: Quite expensive but well worth it.
Vicks Ultra chloraseptic.
Vicks ultra chloraseptic is an anaesthetic throat spray which you can use to ease the symptoms of a sore throat. Some throat infections normally caused by a bacterial infection usually of streptococcal origin affecting the tonsils causing swelling and difficulty in swallowing. For those who have experienced this it's as if your throat is full of fine and sharp glass causing nasty pain when trying to swallow even trying to swallow your own spittle. This compounded by the fact that it is painful and you are feeling generally unwell and probably quite sorry for yourself.
What is it?
Ultra chloraseptic comes in a small bottle containing 15mls of clear liquid. This clear liquid contains the anaesthetic called Benzocaine at 0.71% dilution per spray which is the active ingredient in the liquid which numbs and eases the discomfort. Under the cap there is a nozzle which you can turn around and when pressed delivers a shot of the anaesthetic.
At the height of an infection it may only work effectively for an hour or two but you are advised not to drink or eat during this time but as soon as the numbness wears off it is worth while trying to drink as much as you can to help flush away the infection or until such times as any antibiotics you might be taking begin to kick in and work. It gives you instant relief which although is only temporary it eases the pain and discomfort by numbing the throat.
How do you use it?
Once you have removed the cap you turn the nozzle so that you can direct it straight into the mouth aiming for the back of the throat to the side that is most painful. You depress the plunger of the applicator up to three times so that the liquid anaesthetic covers the area that is sore. The spray comes out in a fine mist so that it covers quite a wide area. You should not share this with other people just use it for yourself. You can use this spray every two to three hours but no more than eight times a day. It is ok to use this for up to three days but should not be used for longer than this and if symptoms persist you should consult your GP.
Relief from Pain.
Ultra chloraseptic works very well for short periods and is an effective medicine for the temporary relief of pain and discomfort. I have no hesitation in recommending it for use. It is not unpleasant tasting although you would not want to use it for long periods of time anyway.
