Oh the joys of being a parent! Not only have I had to nurse my poor eldest baby back to something resembling "healthy", but now she is on the mend I have had to contend with her bug myself..... And by god how she must have suffered! Now my husband is not really used to me being too ill, usually sniffing and complaining for a ...

I was a bit sceptical of this product when I first heard of it. After all, I know enough about biology to know that the common cold is spread by hundreds of different viruses and is therefore currently uncurable. However, a product from a trusted brand such as Vick's and with such a hefty price tag (my 15ml bottle set me back 7 quid!), I decided ...

Having just spent a couple of days visiting my friend among all the other First Years at university (90% with the dreaded 'Freshers Flu') I decided when I got home to try and defend myself against the disease! Going on holiday in a week and do not want to be ill! So off to Boots I popped and searched out the cold and flu remedies, ...

I've been using First Defence for a couple of years now and it seems to work for me. It's a bit unpleasant for a few minutes after using it but that's all and I can't recommend it highly enough.
I think it's most effective when you use it as people around you are starting to show signs of colds.
There are plenty of reviews here where it hasn't worked and caused side effects but if you don't try something then you'll never know and trying it is what I'd recommend you do.
Some of the negative reviews talk of feeling the spray dripping from the back of your throat but this never happens to me. As far as I'm aware you spray it up the nose and don't inhale so that it stays up your nose. Basically, catch the drips from your nose!

I used this product a few months ago after a friend tried it and said it reduced the length of her cold. Having asthma I'm all for avoiding colds and the inevitable chest problems so this seemed like a great idea. I bought it from Boots for about £7.50 and hoped it worked as you can only use it once, so if you feel like you're getting ...

I recently bought Vick's First Defence on the recommendation of my mum who swears by it. I paid £5.99 for a 15ml bottle, which I think is the standard price for it. It is available over the counter in most supermarkets and pharmacies. I used it exactly as directed at the first sign of a cold and, at first, I really thought it had worked ...

My mum works for Boots behind the pharmacy desk and absolutely swears by this stuff. She insists it completely works for her and will buy me a bottle about once every three months 'just in case'. However, I've had absolutely no luck with it. I had glandular fever about 2 years ago and since then I've had about 4 colds a year that have ...

I've been using this product for nearly 2 years now and haven't had a cold at all as a result. Yes, it can burn when first administered but it is killing nasty germs. In my experience, the more burning - the more germs are being killed.
I'm never without a bottle of this stuff these days. Genius.

I tried the First Defence Nasal Spray at Christmas last year, I developed signs of an impending cold the day before Xmas Eve and didn't want to be in the throes of a full blown cold for Xmas day so I bought this spray. The whole nasal aspect is unpleasant, it feels like it's dripping down your throat when you've just taken it then after a few ...

Vicks First Defence is an excellent medicine that is worth buying for those nasty colds. The way Vicks works is that it prevents a cold from developing any further after taking it. It is a nasal spray, so unpleasant to use but it does work very well if you use it as you should. Vicks First Defence should be used as soon as you feel ...

Can't understand the two reviewers who complain about pain, stinging etc. In my experience First Defence is painless to use, and really, really works - as long as you follow the instructions EXACTLY. DON'T tip your head back as one review suggested, keep your head upright in normal position, and DON'T sniff deeply. I do three ...

I have been trying First Defence for the last year and have not had a cold since. If I think I have been exposed to colds or if I feel the first signs of a cold, I use it three or four times a day as the instructions suggest. Of course, I cannot prove it has prevented my catching colds, but I strongly suspect that it might have. The ...

I don't need to write an elaborate review as this should sum it up. (a) - YES! IT REALLY DOES WORK! Stopped my cold developing and symptoms had completely gone within 24 hours of first use. (b) - It did not sting when I used it, It did not hurt and there were no side effects, although different people may react ...

This product is much loved by me, but not entirely as I don't like the idea of shoving it up your nose to use it, as it is rather uncomfortable. However, I do love this product for it is one of the rare ones that actually works, and prevents the most common and annoying thing ever - colds! It doesn't get rid of colds, but is designed to STOP ...

Be gentle with this nasal spray, I haven't experienced any of the effects noted by other users such as bad taste, streaming nose and eyes etc. I inserted the nozzle and pumped 2 or 3 times and did not inhale at all and it has still worked for me.
Today I should be dying with the start of a vicious cold but I feel more uncomfortable than ill plus I have a cold sore which tells me my immune system is really being hammered. I've only used it three times so far but I will be carrying on for a while yet as it tells you to.
Well worth the money I can't afford to stay off work and I certainly don't want to have to suffer if I can avoid it. I hate being ill.

I awoke with a sore throat and a friend recommended I try out Vicks First Defence. Anything was better than a cold two weeks before Christmas. The spray is easy to use and has a menthol like fragrance, it is a rather peculiar sensation but not unpleasant. Certainly incomparable to a blocked up nose, no sleep and red raw ...

Well I think it has done the job! I can feel there is 'something not quite right' but generally I am carrying on as normal. I have had a very busy weekend but have managed to do everything and not felt like I am struggling at all. Taking the stuff has got more comfortable now although I do sneeze within minutes of it rushing up my nose. There is ...

I've been using First Defence for a few months now, and it really does work. A lot of people at my work got a nasty cold, i was one of the very few who didn't get it. It really does work. Although you may feel slightly odd when you first take it, it soon dies down. Often, a sneeze will come out, which could be the virus itself. I would certainly ...

experienced excruiciating stabbing pain instantly I sprayed it in my nostril. I only did one. The pain continued and was like a sickening sinus pain. Tried rinsing out with salt and water but had to take pain killers to try to ease pain and consequential headache. WIll not be using it again ever!

It's that time of year again. No, I'm not talking about Valentine's Day. I'm referring to those coughs and sneezes that tend to pay an unwelcome visit during the winter period. It seems no matter how carefully you avoid contact with contagious sufferers, cold and flu viruses spread like wildfire. Despite copiously washing my hands with ...
