Advantages: Cheap, work for some things
Disadvantages: Doesn't work for everything
I have a heavy duty fitness regime at the moment. I train really, really hard which means I'm constantly getting muscle pains of late. It isn't a medical condition as such but my muscles ache and not just in my back but all over! I'm also really prone to terrible period pains, headaches and all-sorts and I suffer quite badly with my body and general health really and always have done!
I always carry paracetamol around with me for on the go pain relief and as an example this week not only have I had general aches and pains brought on by the gym but I also twisted my ankle pretty badly when drunk and disorderly and toppled off my 5 inch heeled shoes! I kid you not! I didn't feel it at the time but I sure as hell did the following morning when my ankle was twisted and ballooned and my body was bruised and I was covered in blood! Course I didn't want this all to slow me down at the gym and being able to simply walk and stuff so I've been taking pain relief!
I spotted these whilst hobbling through my local Wilkinson's store priced at 27p a packet. I've been paying £1.29 for Anadin so decided to try make a saving and purchased these forgetting I had bought them before lol!
The Packaging....
As on the review photograph at the top of this page only these I'm reviewing say tablets on the box and are not caplets. If you can't see that (I'm informed some people can't) the box is blue and white and square in shape, has a picture of two tablets on the front of it and on the I'm told there are 16 tablets in the box and that they are Wilko Paracetamol 500mg tablets which give effective pain relief. On the back of the box I'm told they are to help with mild pain and symptoms of colds and flu, dosage advice is given, warnings are listed as are a list of ingredients, contact details for PL Holder are given (the manufacturer of these tablets) and finally there is a bar-code on there. Inside the box there is a leaflet giving lots of warnings and a proper run down of what these tablets can be used for etc. Then there are two plastic trays foil backed of 8 tablets each. Ok looking packaging and it's all very informative.
So what exactly can these be used to treat?
Paracetamol relieves pain and brings down high temperatures (reduces fever).
Headache, migraine, nerve pain (neuralgia), toothache, sore throat and period pains.
Symptoms of rheumatic and muscular aches and pains, sciatica, back pain (lumbago), joint swelling and stiffness.
Symptoms of cold & flu.
Dosage Instructions....
Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years: One or two tablets to be taken up to four times a day, as required.
Children under 6 years: Not to be used unless directed by a doctor.
Me Taking Them....
So as I mentioned earlier I have a few aches and pains! Stiffness in my joints, swelling to my ankle and I've even been sniffly and had headaches this week so these have been in use rather alot!
So for headaches? Yes they work. Migraine... (serious headaches) no they don't. Joint swelling they haven't touched either and I'm still as sniffly as before I started taking them to be completely honest with you lol. They have worked however with my general aches and pains, how be it temporary they have offered some pain relief to be fair to them. I have took these in the past for period pains as well and they worked a treat for that!
These are fairly easy to take. Small, white and smoothish you really must take them with a good drink or they repeat on you terribly and take ages to dissolve in your tummy. They work (if they work) within an hour so don't expect instant results with these, they take time to go where needed!
Overall....
Hit and miss really in effectiveness. Mild pain, yes they seem to work and saying that my period pains are horrendous and they really do sort that out for me a treat. For the relief of cold and flu like symptoms I found them to not do anything at all but headaches (again mild and tension ones) great. They are a cheap tablet and do take time to work so if you want fast acting paracetamols I'd give these a miss but for light pains, as I have said great!
Only available in Wilkinson's stores.
Summary: A cheap paracetamol which are hit and miss!
