Advantages: gets rid of pain fast, its cheap

Disadvantages: none

After having my little boy 10 weeks ago, I noticed every time I fed him he would draw his knees up to his chest and scream in pain.
The reason for him doing this was because he was suffering from gripe pains (also known as excessive trapped wind).

First we tried infacol which worked for the first month then became ineffective so back to the chemist we went to find an alternative.

Looking on the shelves in the baby section there were 2 other types of relief for wind and gripe, 'Nurse Harveys' and 'Woodwards'.
Reading the back of the boxes they were both identical but i chose the Woodwards.

****************** Did it work? ************

After feeding our baby it was only a matter of time before he got the pains again, so out came the gripe water.
Being only 10 weeks old the correct dosage for his age is one 5ml tea spoon.
On giving him the spoonfull i could hear his tummy gurgling and within seconds he had stopped screaming and was smiling at us, and then let out a huge burp.

******************** What is gripe? *********

Gripe is caused by muscle spasms and excess acid created when air bubbles form in the babys tummy, then the air bubbles get trapped which makes the tummy feel full, and acids are produced.
These acids are not needed and can cause irritation.
Because the tummy is full of air bubbles its muscles cannot relax causing cramps and spasms.

********** Is it just for new babies? *******

No the dosages are as follows
Babies upto 1 month old = Not to be used
1-6 months = 1 5ml spoonful
6-12 months = up to 2 5ml spoonfuls
These doses can be given during or after food, up to 6 times in 24 hours.
As with all types of medicines if the symptoms persist consult your doctor.

****************** Safety Warnings **********

Do not use this product where impaired kidney function or hypersensitivity to the preservatives E
215, E217, and E219 exists.

***************** Ingredients ***************

Terpeneless dill seed oil - warms and relaxes the tummy breaking down trapped air bubbles.
sodium hydrogen carbonate - neutralises the acid in the babys tummy.
Its alcohol free, sugar free, and colour free.

******************** The Cost **************

It only comes in 150ml bottles and costs around £2.00.

In my opinion i would highly recommend this to any parent of babies and young children who suffer from wind and gripe.

Great opinion, so glad it helped, must be horrible for babies to suffer with loads of wind, its bad enough as it is for adults. Thanks and take care Chele X
