Advantages: eases difficult breathing

Disadvantages: after a while your whole house smells of it!

All 3 of my boys had terrible croup as babies, one of them also had asthma, which thankfully he's now grown out of. I'm not at all sure how we would have got through those dreadful nights without our trusty Wrights Vaporiser.
Anyone whose child has ever had croup knows what a nightmare it can be, and how terrible it is listening to them trying to draw breath and how exhausting it is when they can't sleep for coughing because you can't either.
I can't remember how we came across our first vaporiser - I have a feeling someone lent us one early on in my eldest child's life and finding it had such an amazing effect we went and bought our own.
The original Wrights Vaporiser had to be put well out of everyone's reach as it was "powered" by a candle! they have since become more sophisticated and, presumably with safety in mind, offered everyone with a candle-driven one a generous discount for trading it in for the new electrical model!
Basically for those not in the know, a Vaporiser consists of a base which very gently heats a solid block onto which, each night you need to use it, you pour a measure of some particularly nasty-looking Wrights Vaporiser Fluid. Refills of fluid and blocks can be bought from your local pharmacist although the blocks last quite a while as does the bottle of fluid.
As it is heated, the block, which has become impregnated with the fluid, slowly releases vapours which help ease difficult breathing.
This is not supposed to be used for very young babies, so check the instructions.
We have found our Vaporiser invaluable - it has saved us many restless nights sleep and has eased the breathing of our kids countless times. It genuinely works, and the only downside is that over a bad bout of a few days, the whole house ends up smelling of the vapour! A small price to pay for your child/baby being able to sleep.
I have since lent it out countless times and every time have had the pers
on i lent it to go buy one of their own.
There are other similar products on the market, eg Boots do a plug-in version (similar to an air freshener in style) so you might want to try those, however if croup is a serious problem, as it was for us, I would wholeheartedly recommend the Wrights version.
