I was given this camera as a present about 4 or 5 years ago and I still absolutely love it. It really could be brand new still today in terms of the technology and it is in excellent working order. My previous camera was a Sony and unfortunately had a manufacturing fault which meant that the display screen died after only a year of use. My Lumix however is a sturdy reliable camera. It is 10 megga pixels which means it has a good level of clarity and it is possible for images to be blown up effectively.
I like taking pictures but am certainly not a camera buff or expert. The Lumix is therefore ideal for me as it is really easy to use and very intuitive and logical in the way that the settings have been laid out. There are not too many confusing buttons to press and the view finding screen is nice and large and produces a high quality image. The camera also has a great night mode setting which produces a really good image, better than some of the other cameras I have seen I think. However in comparison to some of my friend's cameras I do not think the zoom is quite as powerful as some other cameras. Although I have noticed that the quality of some of the zoomed images on other cameras are not as good as the quality on this camera, so I think picture quality is something that Panasonic never compromise on.
There is the usual timer delay mode, and also an autofocus zoom for close range objects and an autofocus that compensates for hand wobble.
The camera can also record video which is a great feature, however it's sound recording quality is good but not great.
Overall I would say that it is a very easy to use, reliable, good quality camera that is also quite versatile and has all of the basic key features that you would want from a digital camera. A very good safe buy in my opinion.
Weleda Ratanhia is my childhood toothpaste, not having used it for the last 20 years I have returned once and for all to the tried and tested. I am a strong believer in natural is better which is why I changed back to this toothpaste. Unlike nearly all toothpastes available today, Weleda do not use Sodium Laureth Sulphate or Fluoride in their products. This is important because both of these commonly used chemicals are well known to have potentially severe health risks attached to them.
Sodium Laureth Sulphate:
Is a chemical also used to degrease car engines, but can be found as a main ingredient in most skincare product as well as nearly all toothpastes. It is cheap and effective at building up a luxurious lather that we have come to expect from our shower gels and toothpastes. However it is also a known carcinogen. Now, all is fine if you do not use it in large quantities and ensure that you wash if off your skin thoroughly. However I would personally prefer to avoid using it if I can.
Is very effective at protecting teeth from enamel erosion from acid and reduces the capacity for plaque to form into tarter. It is also thought to help strengthen the enamel of children and improve the health of their teeth in later life. However, according to research, fluoride accumulates in the pituitary gland in the brain, which controls hormones that regulate the onset of puberty. There is also concern that it could possibly inhibit the functioning of the thyroid gland. It is also mildly toxic if ingested, and it is for this reason that it is important that toothpaste is never swallowed.
Whilst we all use these chemicals along with many others every day, I would prefer to limit my chemical intake, and therefore have opted for the Weleda route.
~ About Weleda ~
Weleda began in 1921 as a herbal pharmaceutical laboratory and is now a world leading manufacturer of natural holistic pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. A healthy 62% of Weleda's plant based ingredients are organic and grown in a controlled environment. The company also has a strong sustainability ethic, working to high environmental standards as well as fare trade values. The company is based on the values of the work of scientist Rudolf Steiner, who believed in the harmony of spirit and mater and therefore the importance of harmony between the human and nature. Weleda are therefore careful to only use natural ingredients in their products, avoiding any synthetic perfumes, dyes or preservatives.
~ About Ratanhia toothpaste ~
Ratanhia is the main active ingredient in the toothpaste, which is used to naturally strengthen gums. The toothpaste is rather unusual as it is pinkie/red in colour and also because of the absence of Sodium Laureth Sulphate it does not foam up like most other toothpastes do. However, it has a lovely fresh almost minty flavour which leaves your mouth feeling clean. It is also a smooth toothpaste without grainy particles, which I believe is better for the teeth, especially if you suffer from enamel erosion, as I think it lessens the possibility of the enamel being weakened further during brushing.
Therefore as long as you do not mind having a more liquidy toothpaste, as opposed to foamy, and keeping natural and healthy is a priority for you, then I would highly recommend this toothpaste to you as one of the best.
I have receding gums and a thinning of the enamel on my teeth due to the fruit acids in my modern health lifestyle, as diagnosed by the experts on TV. I therefore tried Oral-B Pro Expert in an attempt to try and improve the condition of my teeth. However I am afraid to say I was left rather less than impressed. To explain why I have included some tooth facts from my own research on the subject:
The science behind Oral-B Pro Expert:
Enamel protection: Oral-B Pro Expert uses chemicals to form a barrier against external acid attack (from foods) which is clinically proven to generate a 2.5% less enamel loss. This in turn protects against cavities which are generated through a weakening of enable and a build up of germs in the mouth.
Kills Plaque bacteria and prevents build up of tartar (which is hardened plaque).
The overall effect is that you are left with whiter teeth (also further promoted through the use of a special chemical) and fresh breath.
The problem (in my opinion):
What does not seem to be mentioned in the advertising for the toothpaste is that some form of granules or grains are used in the toothpaste to I suppose clean off the plaque. However in combination with an electric toothbrush, this makes for a really abrasive clean on your teeth, which is of course not good for teeth with weak enamel, as it will inevitably contribute to the wearing away of the tooth surface. What I find strange, is that after having started using these toothpastes which claim to protect and even in some cases rebuild enamel, the bottoms of the front teeth have become significantly more see through than they were before I started using these products.
In the specific case of Oral-B Pro Expert, I found that the grainy texture of the toothpaste left my teeth feeling more sensitive, therefore whilst the chemical they use to act as a barrier to food acid may protect enamel by 2.5% I am of the opinion that the granules in the paste undo this work and more. Also far from my mouth feeling fresh, it felt strangely dry after brushing as though my mouth had been coated in a chemical. As to the increase in whitening of my teeth I am afraid I notice no real improvement. Overall, I am afraid I would not recommend this product.
I bought this scent for light everyday summer wear, and I think it fits the task perfectly. However it would work its magic equally well on a warm evening breeze in summer. As a perfume it is relatively inexpensive and yet still good quality, so there is no smelling the price tag. I would describe it as a light modern floral perfume of pale pink roses and a strong but balanced undertone of green tea. The official description includes a 'sparkling halo of violet and magnolia flowers', which makes the rose scent slightly more complex. However it is essentially a very clear and uncomplicated scent that is pretty but not too girly, with a slight air of sophistication (added by the green tea). The Eau de Parfum has good staying power, but is by no means overpowering, meaning that it is a very easy to wear scent. If worn in the evening, it has the potential to be quite a sexy scent, as it reminds me of the smell of roses wafting on a summer breeze at dusk after a scorching hot day, causing their sweet perfume to be released into the air. Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that the delicate rose scent was captured from living flowers and inhaled through a glass jar, rather than dead blooms crushed and their essence distilled.
I am a loyal Dove Deodorant user, I love their scents and find that they are pretty much the only brand that will keep me lovely and fresh throughout the day. However I am afraid I am not such a big fan of their Beauty Finish anti-perspirant. I think this is mainly down to the fact that I am not that keen on the scent which I guess you could describe as a warm orchid kind of smell (so a matter of personal preference). However, I also found that it is not quite as effective as the other anti-perspirants in their range, although still much better than many of their competitors in my opinion. Other than these relatively minor complaints it does what it sets out to do, you are not left with a white coating of spray, and there are none of those annoying white marks on your tops that your bog standard deodorant often tend to leave behind. It is therefore perhaps a useful deodorant to have on stand-by for use with that little black dress, but for everyday use, I prefer their traditional range of lemongrass, lotus and original.
This is a must buy for anyone travelling abroad to a hot country during mosquito season! I went to Italy last year and used Body Shop Grapefruit Shower Gel every day. As well as leaving me feeling super fresh and invigorated every morning, I was the only one out of five not to be eaten alive by mosquitoes during the holiday. I know that the little flying bloodsuckers don't like citrus, so I can only put it down to the fact that I was showering in the wonderful sent of fresh grapefruit every morning! The Body Shop sell the shower gel in a very handy travel size as well which means that is conforms to the customs liquids regulations.
Apart from its wonderful anti-mosquito properties, it is a great smelling shower gel, and very economical as a little bottle lasts a long time (4 day holiday, with both morning and evening showers). And of course it is made with The Body Shops' trademark values of no animal testing, fair trade and natural ingredients to help protect the planet!
Faith in Nature is in my opinion one of the best affordable natural beauty and skin care ranges available. As a natural skin care fanatic, I have tried and tested lots of the different products out there, some of which can be very expensive, but I have found Faith in Nature to be the most nurturing to the skin, and also importantly in this day and age, excellent value for money. Often natural products that use plant oils or essentials oils can irritate the skin as the oils can be very strong and sometimes rather astringent. However the Faith in Nature Lavender and Geranium Conditioner, whilst it does use natural herbal oils, is very gentle and nourishing leaving your hair feeling soft and healthy. I suffer from a sensitive scalp and therefore I have to be careful what I put on my hair, the Lavender and Geranium Conditioner is one of the few products that I have found which does not irritate my skin.
The Lavender and Geranium Conditioner is a fairly light conditioner in comparison to most conditioners which can feel very thick and tend to coat the hair rather than actively condition it. In contrast, the Faith in Nature conditioner feels like the natural moisture in your hair has been retained, leaving it feeling silky soft and free flowing rather than heavy which is how I sometimes feel after using chemical conditioners. My final testimony for this fabulous product is the recent compliment that I received from my hairdresser who commended on what great condition my hair was in (usually I get asked when I last got my hair cut as they fight their way through the knots and tangles), this was after I had been using the Lavender and Geranium Conditioner for a few weeks. So I can certify that it also has expert approval!
