I just got this game a couple days ahead of release and all I can say to everyone who owns a PS3: Go out and get this game! It certainly wont disappoint, this game has all the key elements required to be one of the most outstanding games of all time.
Before I get into the details of the game itself, I have to say this is exactly the quality of game you would expect to come from the Naughty Dog studio, creators of another massive PlayStation exclusive The "Uncharted" series.
The game is set in a post apocalyptic world where there is a spin on the usual zombies you would find in such a game where they are being named the infected, they are humans which have been infected by a virus causing them to lose their minds and from what I have encountered in the game so far there are 2 main types: Runners; which are still human like in appearance and still have high mobility hence the name "runners", the runners are fast moving infected and still have their sight so they aren't always the easiest to avoid. The 2nd type of infected is the Clickers, no prizes for guessing why they are called this? Yes they make a clicking noise which can be very creepy when you are in such a setting. Trying to avoid these infected are different from the Runners as they are blind and can only use their hearing to track you down, this in theory sounds like it is easy therefore to just sneak past unnoticed but I can assure you that's not the case most of the time. Other than the infected the other main antagonists in the game are as always people; this can be either bad people out for themselves or worse the well prepared military forces.
Now we have heard about the antagonists what about the Protagonists: The main character is Joel a middle aged man who needs to help Ellie the 2nd main character in the game a 14 year old girl. The relationship of the two characters throughout the game is as big a part of the game, as the gameplay is and shows what great depth this game truly has. I wont reveal anything further about them so you can enjoy the story as it unravels as you play the game.
The final piece to this majestic game is the gameplay itself, you must survive the environment which includes the infected and the military forces, by scavenging parts and other items that can be used to craft things like medical kits and various weapons such as shivs to help you better deal with your enemies. The game requires in the main a stealth approach as if you get surrounded by the infected am afraid you will get overwhelmed and you will die. You must sneak past clickers by sneaking while crouched to make less noise. And avoid the runners line of sight as well as being quiet, another option is to use objects you find as move around the levels such as empty bottles or bricks to distract enemies and steer them away from your location. The combat in the game is made up of stealth kills if you can sneak up behind an enemy and then strangle them to take them out without being noticed, you can only do this with runners and humans as the clickers can only be taken out this way using a shiv. If stealth fails you can then try and melee or shoot your way past enemies but against the infected in particular this can be extremely difficult.
This doesn't begin to sum up how brilliant this game truly is so please go and check it out for yourself, I promise you wont be disappointed. This game has to get a 9.5/10 from me.
The Nintendo DS is something that has replaced the gameboy well and has seen off the original PSP with ease. This newer contraption with a "supposed" 3D feature is almost completely unremarkable, it is basically the latest DS with an added gimmick that doesnt enhance the experience. The only time I have felt myself anjoying the use of the 3DS more than its predecessors was a mini game that comes as pre-installed software already on the device. The 3D isnt ready for this type of device; I have faith in the idea and maybe at a later date this will be a great feature for portable devices but alongside the 3D not adding much has to be the fact that prolonged use of the feature does start to hurt your eyes a bit and I am 21 and have perfect eyesight; if I cant use it then I struggle to see how older people or younger children can use this for any length of time. Although it has this issue it is still a great device with everything you would expect from Nintendo in terms of quality and style. If you want a DS and dont need to have the latest gadget then go for the last in the line of DS's as thats all this is when you get down to the nitty gritty.
FIFA 12 is the best release to date of any football game. The graphics surpass that of any other even if they arent perfect and for the big stars you can see they are very similar but the lesser players are very poor. FIFA has always been my preferred title over PES and the gap that used to be quite small around PES4 and even up to PES6 between the 2 games has gotten to an extreme where I dont understand why people choose to play PES with FIFA available to buy. The features and modes in FIFA are simply brilliant with Ultimate Team now free and available on release of this game it one of the most loved fantast modes/games on the market. Career mode is as good as ever even if it isnt quite groundbreaking yet. Online the feature Head to Head seasons is a welcome addition where you recreate a league format with every win counting as 3 points and a draw getting 1 point; you are set a traget e.g 15 points to get promoted and if you are out of the bottom divison 10 then you will have another target purely for avoiding relegation. This really gives you more to work towards in online modes and there are now cups every weekend to enter as a change of pace to playing in the leagues. The gameplay itself is similar to FIFA 11 but is better with the addtion of tactical defending where the automatic tackle if you hold down B is gone and you now need to be more careful and think before pressing the B to tackle.
All in all FIFA 12 beats its competitors by a mile but isnt quite the finished article, which is scary for the competition really. If you are new to the franchise get it, if you dont have muche left over cash after the bills and already have FIFA 11 might want to wait until FIFA 13 comes out for more radical changes.
Great Game 9/10
To start I must say I thought before I watched this that it was either going to be really good or equally as bad. So I was happy when I watched it and really enjoyed it, the cast in this film are some up and coming actors and actresses in hollywood right now. I will pick out the biggest of them and that is Emile Hirsch, yes I am a little biased as he is one of my favourite actors however his performance in this film shows off his talent and he really keeps the film going. In the beginning you instantly get the character, he is a care free guy who is always positive and has a entrepreneurial mind. His friend on the other hand is up tight and very focused, which seems odd for a friend, and partnership in their App they go to Russia to sell.
They arrive and are immediately ripped off by a swedish guy who works for the company they were meeting, they do what a lot of people would do in that situation and go to a local club for a drink, using the app they invented which is of course a social networking app, they find another american woman and her Australian friend. They then start to have a good night that is abruptly stopped when the light go out and as they exit the lights go out across the whole of Russia and they stare into the sky where the aliens are falling as rays of light. They are now in an epic struggle to survive the aliens and find other survivors.
The ending where not spectacular is really good and hints at a sequel but with limited Margin made on the film this is unfortunately a slim possibility.
I would Rate it 8/10
This iPhone 3GS was my first touch screen phone and I was very dubious about touch phones before I got my hands on this bad boy. I can honestly say that Apple has the best touch screens in the world, having tried out your cheaper models and other highly priced phones like the Samsung Galaxy S they just dont meet the same standard of smoothness and response time is great. It really is effortless to use in comparison to others where you have some seriouse lag time and that's what I was worried about when getting an iPhone but this device quickly gets rid of those fears and you start to enjoy the phone for what it is. A fantastic iPod Touch that is a phone (Just kidding) but in some ways thats all this is, You have the apps, games and music the same as a touch but you feel like you are better and cooler than your friends when you say iPhone rather than iPod Touch. This phone is a great purchase for any first time touch phone users(If there are any left) as it is simple to use and very efficient. The battery is decent but dont expect to be playing games or watching videos for hours on end. It is very stylish and nice to look at but does lack the flatness to sit on a table without becoming annoying at some point, unlike the more up to date models the iPhone 4 & 4S. For the price it is almost guaranteed that unless you seek the new of the new that you should get this version of the iphone over going for the 4. It really doesnt make any sense to go for the 4 unless you (A) Hate the back that wont sit stable on the table (B) Love all the latest tweaks that apple continually add to the new models to add another £250 onto the price tag. Probably on the low side w/ £250 aswell. The phone is really good and I would recommend to everyone who wants and iPhone but doesnt want to pay the ridiculous prices the latest editions cost. The only other downside to this model is the 8GB memory, I'm afraid for me and many others that just doesnt cut the cake, but if you go higher expect another silly price increase.
This is my 5th & 6th XBOX360, and no I didnt buy that many because it was so damn good. The original XBOX 360 console was very much a hashy work in progress if you ask me, was really noisy and the red light errors were off the charts(Anyone who owned one knows what I am talking about) I continually had to get it replaced.
However they released the Elite which was no real improvement and then they thought lets try and give the customers a console that actually works and thankfully this is the console we wanted way back on the initial 360 launch. This is the XBOX360 S the "S" standing for slim which is kind of false but it is more of a sleek design. The red rings of death are gone and hopefully will never return. The biggest difference that has helped that situation is the change in the vents situatuon on the console. Before they were on the back and didnt work whatsoever, so everyone bought cooling fans to help out but they were super noisy and was obviously an extra charge on top of the console itself. The new vent however is on the side of the machine and work really well and doesnt take anything away from the design(If anything they actually make it look cooler) So now that they have sorted out the errors and the noise is significantly reduced and it is a much more enjoyable experience because of those two things alone. Along with these improvements to the design of the hardware they re-tuned the software and now that they released Kinect (You are the controller) its more family friendly & the XBOX has become the best console for every home in my opinion. The playstation Move is just a re-hash of the Wii and uninventive and the Wii is getting well past its sell by date.
Even though we are closing in on the next generation now (Possibly the XBOX720) the 360 is still selling and it is because it has all the bases covered and they and each base is done better than there competitors. The big plus the 360 has always had from its launch to now is the best controller by more than a country mile.
All in all the console is the best of the current generation models and if it can make the same strides and get it right first time with the 720(Probably named something else upon release) Then they will be on top for some time to come.
Still a good buy for a couple of years before the next model comes out
I was looking to upgrade my TV as I had a 24" samsung which was good but as it is something I use every day, needed an upgrade in size. This LG model is similar to it as the simplicity and clear black style and is pretty thin. I was very happy with the quality of the 37" screen versus the 24" which I expected, but the price is very affordable for the size and knowing LG is very reliable was a big positive.
It doesnt get much easier to set up than put it on the stand and plug in the power cable and the scart lead for my Sky box. It WAS that SIMPLE. The 1080p is fantastic for both watching movies on my Blu Ray Player and of course playing my PS3 and XBOX360. 1080p comes through best on video games and in comparison to a 24" screen it is much easier to get lost in what ever your doing.
I love this TV and would strongly recommend it to anyone who wants a high quality TV at a good price and has easy installation.
The Macbook Air Superdrive is fantastic, as a Macbook Air owner I new that with the all flash storage of the Air that I would need this product as I have to have DVD capability at this moment in time. I think most people may be put off on buying a mabook air as it doesnt come with the cd drive as part of the machine, but I can assure all buyers out there who still want to use DVD's and want an Air also that this is perfect for you. It is very sturdy and resistent for travelling with and even when you move it around and I have tested it by aggressively thrusting the device while playing a DVD to see if the DVD jumps but at no time has that happened. Even on an airplane it sits on the table alongside the macbook air or just behind it nicely. The only downside with it other than the very steep price. Is the shortness of the USB Cable that is permanently attached to it, if the cable was longer you could have it in more places but this is still more than manageable.
Apple products in general are promoted to have the most simplistic design to have the most beautiful outcome while keeping up with most of the competition in performance. In other words the Macbook Air, I have had this for over a year now can honestly say when you first get it you are dubious, thinking is this going to be a novelty but no it keeps you enthralled from the moment you take it out the box which is also simple and beautiful as far as packaging goes that is... The first thing is the price however, you cannot simply go down to your local seller of macbooks and expect to be able to afford it. Even if you spend a good couple of hours hunting for a cheap deal online I'm afraid you will still be spending more money than someone ever should on a little silver chopping board ;-) Although they have been cut in price in the past year from £1200 approx. by around £200 it is one of the higher priced models on the market for the performance you get out of it. I can say right now if you dont need to have an apple product or have stylish machine DONT buy this as you can get better performances and better prices for those better spec devices. I do know however that a lot of you out there might be more inclined to look at the total package and not just one particular area of a netbook. For example performance is not Apple's selling point to a big extent. Apple is the number one for creating works of art when it comes to the looks department and in order for them to do this they need to reduce the power a little. The tapered look is very cool on the macbook air and even though it is no longer the thinnest available it still very sleek. It is not the lightest but is still ultra portable, as a traveller myself I know that when you have a powerful latpot thats like putting a couple of big bricks in your rucksack it isnt much fun to cart around. The Air on the otherhand is light durable and is 10x better than most laptops for travelling. The machine itself is still good enough that you could scrape by using it for work but its not recommended, this is much more of a personal laptop that is good for fun and games. The built in flash storage means is very quick on boot up and when in standby mode open it up & it instantly back on and you can start using it again.
With 2 usb slots and a SD card slot you should be fine for memory and the headphone jack is of course very useful. The magnetic charger port that whips your charging cable into the slot is a nice touch if not very important. The backlit keyboard is very nice and the keyboard itself as usual with apple is great to use. With the new OS: X Lion (Operating System e.g Windows XP) the multi touch gestures are brilliant and anyone can pick them up. The biggest downside for me personally is the battery life, apple say the battery life is 5-7 hours but it depends on what you are doing, surfing the web it should cope and give you about the 5 hours, but if you plan on using heavy cpu use apps / games or other software it does tend to drop to just a 2-3 hours. It can during such taks also heat up a little and cause the fans to heat up on ocassion which can be annoying it times but like a say depends on the apps used.
As netbooks / Laptops & Macbooks go, this is one of the for the casual user and traveller definitely but if you need it for work I wouldnt recommend.
This car is very reliable and has never had any problems in my 4 years of ownership. I use this car for all types of travel both business and for pleasure and it is still coping well. It was 5 years old when I got it so is now fast approaching the ten year mark, this is proof that it's reliable to never have broken down once in that timeframe is pretty impressive. Last year had to get some new break pads but other than that very little maintenance required to keep this car running. The back seat is a tight squeeze for even my younger cousins let alone adults(definitely not built to be spacious) The boot is also not very useful if you are someone looking to do a big shop once a month. It is quite a smart car to look at, even though I think the consensus may be it is more of a girls car ;-) but the style actually makes it unisex.
The big downside for guys is the 1.1L engine and therefore the acceleration or lack of is very poor. I am in the market for a new car now as my insurance has come down enough now so that I can go up to around the 1.4L engine size without fainting at the cost. In that respect it is a good car for first time buyers. All in all I would recommen this car to people of all ages and gender, unless you really need some speed and acceleration then I would look for either an upgraded model or different car type.
