      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Sometimes you get what you pay for!

I bought this concealer when my ususal concealer (Maybelline) was out of stock. I love the Rimmel eyeliner so I thought it was worth giving their concealer a go!

      The product
A stick concealer, Rimmel claim it "effectively conceals blemishes and dark circles" . It comes in 3 different shades and it retails with an RRP of £4.49 whic is pretty cheap for a concealer . The packaging is a cream and black applicator.

      How does it work
As with any concealer it should be simple- apply to blemishs/dark circles using your finger tips to smooth onto skin. But I found it difficult to spread and coverage poor on my skin. I had to apply two or three layers to cover even a slight red mark or spot and as I built up the layers it became cakey and obvious. I bought the medium product but whilst this shade usually works for me I found it pale on my skin.

I tried this product under my eyes to see if it would conceal my dark lines - again not great coverage and cakey and obvious looking.

To be honest I was so disappointed with the product I decided to bin it from my make bag after just a couple of uses!

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Dear,,,but worth it.

      Intro
As I'm getting a little older and wrinklier (more character- heres hoping?) I have decided that its time to invest in some proper skincare.I ususally stick to mid market foundations (like Maybelline) but was fed up with my make up disappearing before lunch time and generally patchy application.

After lots of research (and confusion - really there is nearly too much information out there on foundation) I decided to try Clarins.

Its the first time I bought a Clarins product and now I'm a convert !

      The Foundation
The foundation I chose was Clarins Skin Illusion Natural Radiance in Wheat Colour

      The Manufacturers Claim
      - Foundation continuously hydrates and protects the skin, beautifully enhancing the complexion with a new radiance / Satin finish / Oil-free / Medium coverage / For all skin types / Triple protection against free radicals, pollution and UV rays / Dermatologist tested / Non-comedogenic / Application: Flawless, quick and even application with the Foundation Brush, or with the fingertips for a more transparent result /

      The Ingredients
Pink opal powder: gives unrivalled radiance. Pink algae extract: moisturizes, softens and stimulates cell renewal. Plant micro-patch: perfect, continuous hydration. Light Optimizing+ Complex: optimizes complexion luminosity.

      The Options
It comes in ten different colours and I got a couple of mini free samples from the Clarins counter which I took home and tested the day before I made my purchase - sometimes I feel shy asking for free samples but I'm glad I did in this case as it made sure I had the colour and that foundation suited my skin.

Does it do what it says on the Tin?
In a word, yes. I loved the product. The foundation is smooth and rich, easy to apply and blends well with no streaky marks. Its gives great coverage to blemishs and you can build up for problem areas (hiding my broken veins) without looking too heavy or cakey like some foundations.

The foundation had a great "clean" smell (reminded me of melons) and felt lovely on my skin. It did definately give me a little glow!

I also though the packaging was classy and it looks good on my dressing table!!

      Any drawbacks?
The only drawback for me is that I would like this foundation to last slightly longer. If I apply in the morning it wears off by early afternoon and by the time I'm leaving work it looks like I don't have any make up on. (this is why it only gets 4 stars as opposed to 5)

The other issue is the price - this retails in Boots at £26 so not by any stretch a cheap product.

Easy to follow, fun, effective 20 minute workout

I have just discovered Jillian Michaels and I am a convert!

For those of you who don't know, Jillian Michaels is a trainer on American tv - The Biggest Loser (I've never watched it but similar premise to the UK version only Jillian is know for being a tough cookie)

I found her DVD when I was searching the internet for effective workout dvds - I'm fed up with paying gym membership and wanted to try a low cost option.

The DVD itself contains three separate work outs - level 1;level 2 and level 3. Each workout is twenty minutes long and basically is Jillian plus two other ladies. Jillian gives instructions and does some of the exercises, one lady does a beginner version and the other the advanced - so essentially you get six workouts out of this dvd - beginner level 1; advanced level 1 etc. Each twenty minute workout is split into a 1 minute warm up; three six minute circuits and a 1 minute cool down. Each of the six minute circuits consists of three minutes of strength training, two minutes of cardio and one minute of abs - so your whole body gets a work out. (you need weights for some of the exercises and also a mat)

I'm relatively fit (used to a bit of running and generally regularly gym going) but had been taking a break from exercise after recovering from an injury and to be honest I was expecting level 1 to be completely easy. It wasn't! The first exercise is full blown sit ups! Having cardio exercises as well as strength and abs training means that your heart is pounding throughout and its keeps it interesting as you know you only have to manage two minutes of cardio before you can lay on the mat and do some abs work. I do pilates before so found the abs work probably the easiest piece of the dvd although saying that its still challenging. The premise is that you do this dvd six days out of seven, and when you have mastered level 1 you move onto level 2 and then to level 3.

I really enjoyed the range of exercises - the dvd never gets repetitive and Jillian comes up with some interesting cardio moves that you can manage in a small space. Jillian's style is tough but motivational and I found myself really working up a sweat. Her helpers are teeny tinny with tight abs and sculpted bodies which I find strangely motivating as I realise how far away from them I look !

After trying this DVD I bought a few other Jillian Dvds including six week six pack and ripped in 30. This one is definately my favourite, as being 20 minutes long its easy to fit into your day. I have lost about 7 pounds in two months and my body is definitely in better shape - thanks Jillian!

My only criticism is that I don't think a 1 minute warm up /cool down is really long enough

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Tastes Good but not for everyday consumption

        I shouldn't love it but I do!!!

Coca Cola is a dark black carbonated soft drink. The Cola Cola brand is extremely famous and Coca Cola have a presence across the globe. The Coca Cola company own numerous drink brands including Fanta, 7 Up and Innocent to name a few. This review is for the Cola only

        The Taste
The best thing about this is the taste, its delicious!!! The cola itself is very fizzy, very sweet and refreshing with that unmistakable "Cola" taste. This tastes like Cola should, rich and sweet and out classes the cheaper versions which I find to be a bit chemically, I am a self confessed sugar addict and this satisfies my sugar cravings instantly. This is best served cold or on ice. Coca Cola also makes an excellent mixer for vodka, whiskey and rum!

        Ingredients
Varbonated water, sugar, colour (caramel E150d), phosphoric acid, natural flavourings (including caffeine).

        Nutritional information
According to Coca Cola for each serving of 250ml there are 105 calories, 26.5g of sugar, 0g salt, 0g fat. In essence its just all sugar!

        Price
This is a premium cola and is the most expensive on the market. The price depends on which size you buy but this would be c£1.30 for 500ml. In a pub you can pay up to £2 for 200ml, expensive!

        Anything Else
Whilst this tastes good, the high sugar content means that it should be consumed as a treat only. I have also heard accounts that over consumption can lead to stained teeth due to the dark colour.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Excellent hair grips

Boots Hairgrips are my all time favourite hair grip.

        The Product/Uses
        - Pack of 30 glossy brown standard sized hair grips.
        - They can be used for a variety of hair purposes - including up dos, fancy hair styles or gripping back bits of hair that are wispy/straggly!
        - These also come in a blonde hair version too - this review is for the brown grips only.

        The Price
£1.49 for a packet of 30 which is very reasonable in my opinion.

        The Positives
        - The brown colour camouflages well into hair and these aren't noticeable or tacky looking
        - The grips are very strong - I have thick mid length hair but around 15-20 grips will suitably hold it up for the day. I have been using these hair grips for years and they have never bent or snapped as other cheaper brands have.
        - These can be reused a number of times and don't weaken with use
        - Despite their strength these grips are soft around the edges and do not irritate or stab the scalp

        Negatives
        - As with all hair grips these are very small and easy to loose... mine usually turn up in the hoover
        - The packaging for the grips is a small piece of blue cardboard which the grips are all pinned against. In the past I have simply throw this into my handbag but the cardboard has become ripped and grips have hence fallen off - a box would be better storage for the grips but this is a minor point.

Overall - Strongly recommend these grips, they are very reliable and an excellent price

        A great little smoothie maker

I bought this smoothie maker as part of a recent health kick - must eat more fruit and veg - and it has definitely encouraged me to eat (or should that be drink?) fruit!

Product Description - as per manufacturers brief
        Product Dimensions: 15.2 x 16 x 31.3 cm ; 1.8 Kg
        300 W compact design
        Includes 2 x 0.5 L spill-proof travel goblets with lids
        Ice crush
        2 speeds plus pulse

        What the Manufactures Say
The SB055 Smoothie 2GO is perfect for on-the-go lifestyles, helping you get your five-a-day of fruit and vegetables, wherever you are.

It's easy to make your own smoothie: place the ingredients into the travel mug, fit the chopping blades, fix onto the compact base and you're ready to make your smoothie. The low, high and plus pulse speed options allow you to mix your drink to the smoothie-ness you prefer.

Then simply fit the drink-through re-sealable lid to the top, remove the travel mug from the base and you're ready to be "on the go" with your smoothie, whether it's in the gym, to work or to school.

        My Verdict
It does what it says on the tin. I have never made a smoothie before so wasn't sure what to expect but this was extremely user friendly. The smoothie maker comes with two goblets and you simply pop all your ingredients into one of the goblets - part of the base of the smoothie maker is detachable - so you screw this onto the top of the goblet to secure the ingredients and then put back into the smoothie maker. Simply turn one rotation to secure to the smoothie maker and press the on button - the blades are very sharp and within a matter of minutes your fruit becomes a smoothie! Its much faster than I expected and easy to use. Once your smoothie its easy to safely detach and drink. You can drink directly out of the goblet or you can pour into a glass. The goblet comes with a screw top lid which you can secure to keep the smoothie fresh and pop into the fridge - I do this as usually each time I make enough for two smoothies. The smoothie maker is very strong and can be used to blend ice. This is versatile and you can also use this to make soup!

The smoothie maker comes with a handy instruction guide and also a suggested recipe book.

Looks wise the smoothie maker is slick and funky and looks very smart on my worktop!

I got this for £24 from Amazon which in my opinion is very good value. I would strongly recommend.

        My favourite shampoo

This shampoo was worked wonders for my hair !!

        What the Manufactures Say
It's described as a miracle moist shampoo for hair that's a bit dry?damaged/ unhappy(perfect description of my over heat treated hair!)

The shampoo contains Australian macadamia nut oil which is supposed to infuse moisture into hair to smooth and condition. Also the shampoo ingredients have recently been slightly changed to include Aloe Vera for that extra moisturising boost.

The manufacturer advises to massage deeply into scalp and roots and for best results use their conditioner too !(no surprise there !)

        The Product
The shampoo felt pretty standard, its thick white creamy pearlescent formula but it smells great, very sweet, it reminded me slightly of bubblegum!

        The Packaging
Creamy coloured bottle with maroon writing and lid. Little picture of a kangaroo in keeping with Aussie theme!

The important question, Does it work ?
YES! With just one wash my hair was softer ,smoother and shinier!! I would strongly recommend this shampoo.
I use this everyday along with the conditioner and my hair is much healthier looking and mire manageable.

        The Price
Here comes the bad news, this product retails in most shops at around 4.00-4.50 for 300 ml. It is worth but I would sugges keeping your eye out for the three for two offers in Boots!

        Delicious sparkling wine

Asti Martini is a brand of delicious Italien Sparkling wines.

Asti Martini is a family favourite, usually I have expensive tastes but when it comes to a celebration I choose a bottle of Asti Martini over champagne every time!

        The Wine
The taste is described as being "Intense, lightly aromatised with scents of fresh grape, melon, peach and brioche". I am by no means a wine expert and cannot claim to be able to detect fruit varieties or brioche from wine but what I can you is that this wine is delicious. Its very very fizzy has that lovely sparkly feeling against your taste buds. The flavour is very sweet, smooth and fruity. The only problem is that its soo drinkable a bottle will disappear very quickly!!

Aromas are described as fresh fruit, like pears and pineapple with a harmonious finish.

        The Packaging
The wine is stored in a glass bottle with a "pop off" lid - this always makes drinking it feel special and is fun taking the cork off rather than the usual screw top or cork screw way to open a bottle.
The bottle is very classy - its dark green in colour with a shiny silver label on the body of the bottle and the neck. The glass is thick cut and feels expensive.

Price - This is priced between £8-10 for a 75ccl bottle depending on which off license you go to

        Alcohol Content - 7.5%

A very drinkable light sparkling wine

Lambrini is a light sparkling wine. It comes in eight varieties, original, light, cherry, cream, peach, bubbly, pink bubbly, bucks fizz and still. Lambrini target the female market for their product, describing the drink as fun fabulous and female!

This review is for the original variety.

        The Taste
I was introduced to Lambrini in my student days, my friends and I choose it because it was cheap and sweet and delicious!Flavour wise its crisp and sweet. It reminds me of a white wine spritzer, as whilst there is a wine taste its overpowered by the sweetness. If there was an alcoholic version of Shloer this would be it! Also useful to note that this is prety refreshing!

Alcohol Content - The Original version is 7.5% this is quiet light and therefore I have gotten away with drinking a whole litre bottle over dinner with friends without worrying about a heavy hangover the next day

The Packaging - You can get this in a one litre or one and half litre bottle. The bottle style is a bit 1980s, glam and girlie

        Price - A bargain £4 for 1.5 litres!

Overall - If you like sweet light wine then give this a try!

        Not worth the price

        Summary
Red Bull is a well know energy drink with their famous catch phrase "it gives you wings"! Red Bull claims to vitalise boyd and mind! This is a sugar free version of their drink.

        Ingredients
Caffeine, taurine, Glucuronolactone (sugar derivative), B group vitamens, aspartamen and acesulfame k (sweetners), Alpine Spring Water.

        Taste
The original Red Bull tastes slightly like fizzy ribena, its sweet and sryrupy and packs a punch ! The taste of the sugar free version is a little bit of a let down in my opinion. There is a chemical taste and it has a very slight bitter sweet taste. Whilst I am a Red Bull fan I don't like the taste of this sugar free product at all.

Calories - As this is sugar free its only 3 calories per 100ml which is pretty low.

Does it give you wings - This product gave me the same caffeine "pick me up" as the original version so no complaints on this front.

Price - Red Bull is a premium product and this is just as expensive! Its c £1.30 - £1.50 for a 330 ml can depending on where you buy.

Overall - I will be sticking with the full sugar version as I just can't get past the chemical flavour of this product.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Overall a pretty good optican

Unfortunately I suffer from poor sight and have a customer of Specsavers for about 20 years

        About Specsavers
Specsavers are a range of high street opticians - according to their website they have over 1,500 optical stores in 10 countries! They are pretty well advertised and well know - their famous catchphrase is "you should have gone to Specsavers!"

        The Positives
        - Excellent range of glasses - with glasses from c£25 to £200 there is an option to suit every price range - the prices include the lenses and the frames.
        - In my opinion Specsavers have the largest range of glasses of any high street optician chain including Boots, Vision Express or Optical Express
        - The glasses are split into a number of different ranges including men, women, designer, teens, children so its easy to find where to start to look for your glasses.
        - There are a number of designer ranges available including Red or Dead, Karen Millen, French Connection Gok Wan even has a range available in Specsavers!
        - Specsavers has an exellent two for one offer on most of the year which means if you buy glasses from certain ranges you can get another free! (usually I think you have to spend a minimum of £69).
        - Specsavers regularly do offers on eye tests - I got mine for a bargain price of £5 this summer!
        - There is a contact lenses department and they will give you a complimentary "how to insert contact lenses" one on one training. There are a great range of contact lenses to choose from and they allowed me to try a number for free ( I have rugby ball shaped eyes so it took a few goes to get a lense which worked for me.)
        - There is also a hearing centre available.
        - Once ordered your glasses are ready pretty quickly - usually within 1-2 days.

        The Negatives
        - I use the Specsavers in Belfast and they are too busy, they squeeze in too many appointments and you feel that you are a number on a conveyer belt. Get in queue for reception, sit down and queue for your appointment, queue for help with glasses, queue to pay. This year it took my full lunch hour just to have my eyes tested I had to wait for so long!!
        - They try to cross sell at every opportunity. Whether it be contacts, sunglasses, reduced thickness lenses they keep trying to sell to you! Be warned!
-If you are a contact lense user they require that you have annual check ups - this is fine except they charge £15 for it and won't continue to prescribe your lenses unless you have an appointment!

        Overall
Due to the choice and the price and queues are worth it.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Give it a try!

I decided to try this mascara after reading reviews on Doo Yoo. At £2 a tube it thought it was worth a try (I have spent more on a magazine!)

There are three different Natural Collection mascaras, lash lengthening, lash curling and waterproof. My lashes are a little on the short side so I thought I would give the lash lengthening a try. There are three colours, brown, black or black brown.

I love dark dramatic black looks so I bought the black mascara.

I have to say I was very pleased with the results!

The mascara itself comes in a plain but stylish white tube with black writing. The tube is of reasonably standard size and unscrews easily to reveal a nice strong wand with strong bristles. The wand is easily gripped and the bristles are closely together but small therefore easy to get onto even your small lashes.

The mascara produces well defined dark lashes. Once dried its smudge proof and gives a nice lengthen-ed look. I found it to be reasonably waterproof (I sometimes suffer from slightly watery eyes and with the wrong mascara I can look like a panda but had no such problems with this one). The mascara lasted for a few hours and is easy to remove using eye make up remover.

I am very impressed with this low price mascara!

Go on give this a try!

I was introduced to Irish Mist a few years ago on New Year Eve. It was a great night and started off my love affair with Irish Mist.

So what is Irish Mist? The Facts...
Its a rich whiskey based liquer with a deep golden red colour.
In terms of ingredients Irish Mist contains Irish whiskey, honey and spices and has an alcohol content of 35% which is pretty strong!
Its made in Co Tipperary and is one of Ireland's hidden treasures!

        The Taste
        One word, delicious!
Simply put, its tastes like a mix between whiskey and honey. The finish is rich, sweet and smooth and has a great smell of whiskey, spices, vanilla and honey.
This is best served chilled and I recommend you drink it over ice.
(Whilst is has a sweetness to its due to the alcohol content its pretty strong and if you don't like spirits then maybe this drink isnt for you...)

You can also serve it with a mixer like lemonade or Coke but I think this spoils the flavour as well as the finish. This is too tasty to mix !

        Price
Ok this is expensive - the cheapest I have found a 700ml bottle is for £20 and I have tried a few off licenses! But they say you get what you pay for !

In a bid to save money I have tried to start buying own brand products- hence I came across this coffe in Sainsburys and bought it instead of a move expensive brand in an attempt to stick to my weekly budget!

This is freeze dried instant coffee. The beans used for making the coffee include arabicas from Central and South America. Sainburys describe this coffee as being rich and smooth. The granules come in a well presented glass jar with a Gold trim

        How to Use
This is an instant coffee - simply add boiling coffee and stir onto the coffee granules dissolve. (Add milk and sugar if you like - I do!). This product dissolves easily and with a quick stir you have a consistent looking cup of coffee in an instant!

        Taste
The big question - how does it taste? Somewhere between not bad and ok! The coffee is smooth and is of a medium strongness. There is a very very slight bitterness to it (which I find is the case with most cheaper coffees.) but this is easily covered up with a bit of sugar. From the taste you do know this is instant coffee but on balance its not bad. Put it this way I drank all the coffee in my first jar and bought another one - it does the job (albeit if money was no object I wouldnt be buying it!)Oh and one teaspoon of coffee granules is enough to make a decent strength cup of coffee.

        The Caffeine Boost
Ok so part of me is drinking coffee for the taste but mostly its for the caffeine! This does give a nice caffeine boost and gives me a morning and afternoon pick me up.

        The Price
This currently retails at £1.70 in Sainsburys for 100ml and £2.45 for 200 ml.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

I think they are the best wipe on the market

As a fan of black eyeliners and mascara I find a good cleansing wipe is essential !!

Simple have an excellent range of skin care products particularly when it comes to the area of make up removal!

        The Product
A pack of twenty five cleansing wipes
The wipes are white in colour and are very soft. They are neatly folded but when you take them out of the packet they unfold into a large face cloth size wipe
The wipes are moist and come in a resealable packet to keep the good stuff in!

        Do they work?
        Yes!
To use simply wipe your face with the wipe, make up comes off easily and without too much rubbing. Removes even waterproof mascara. Works every time and leaves your skin feeling fresh clean and soft!
Due to the large size of the wipe this will adequately remove a full face of make up!

        Other useful info
These wipes have no alcohol, oils, perfume or colours
They contain Pro vitamin B5 to restore soften and smooth
I suffer from sensitive skin and ezcema but these wipes are so gentle they have never irritated me, even on the delicate under eye area

        Any negatives?
The wipes are dear, usually between two to three pounds per packet! Keep your eye out for two for one deals in Boots as these are worth paying that little bit extra!
