In the early 1940's Dr. Frank Reeno stumbled upon time travel and in order not to affect the current timeline he sent a crew of 21 people ranging from naval marines to scientists back in time 100 million years unfortunately though some did not make it and a few were found moulded into the various bulkheads of the ship that they were on whilst attempting the time travelling journey however the ship turned up some 300 miles away from its original position so everyone presumed that they had discovered teleportation.
Something went wrong with the mission though and left the team stranded in the dawn of time with no means of return when they stumble upon the idea of using cave paintings to communicate with the scientists back home which is when Dr. Reeno decides it is time to send a search and rescue party back to bring back them to civilisation but again not all goes to plan and they end up bringing a 60 foot long T-Rex back with them!
100 Million years bc feels like a really cheap under budget film and takes its entire story by merging bits of Godzilla, Stargate and even a bit of Jurassic park thrown into one seriously lacking film! The special effects were especially poor and throughout the film you can see that nearly everything has been filmed in blue screen and hasn't even made that good use of that technology either.
The perfomances from the cast were again really lacking in both imagination and overall ability which really doesn't help to improve this poor story at all and i cant actually remember anything about the soundtrack at all which must mean that that was quite poor aswell.
In fact the only thing in this entire film that i thought was done even the slightest bit well was the representation of the actual dinosaurs and they did look quite good but the methods used to insert them into the film however really weren't and its for that reason as well as countless others that i would not recommend this to anyone its boring poorly made and has next to no action content in the whole film which sucks being as it is supposed to be an action adventure film!

Outpost begins with a shady looking business man named Hunt scoping out the local bar of an eastern European town savaged by war and poverty for hired help to accompany and protect him on a dangerous mission into the heart of an abandoned Nazi bunker, A task that he is willing to pay out a large sum of money for and insists will take no longer than 48 hours naturally ex marine turned mercanary D.C takes up his offer and soon assembles an elite group of battle hardened war veterans and mercanaries to aid him on this mission.
However the group soon start to wonder why Hunt is offering such a large sum of money for such a seemingly easy mission and with Hunt still refusing to give any real information about thier mission the tension soon starts to grow and then escalates even further still when they arrive to find that the bunker in question was once the site of brutal Nazi experiments carried out on thier own troops and is still filled with all of the slowly decomposing bodies of the experimentees yet somehow amongst the bodies they manage find a survivor, but all is not what it seems and before long many of the mercanaries begin to perish killed by a seemingly invisable silent predator.
Now demanding to know why they were bought to such a place the mercanaries soon find thier mission changing from that of protecting Hunt to one of all out survival and with thier numbers diminishing by the minute they start to realise why Hunt was so willing to pay up and so reluctant to share any information with them.
I started to watch this film without any sort of high expectations as the whole Nazi experiment theme has been done so many times before and pretty poorly at that too i might add but i found myself totally consumed and enthrawled in the story and action throughout and by the end i didn't want to turn away from the screen for a moment in case i missed something as the pace picks up and the tension rises it soon turns into a lightning fast kill frenzy.
The one thing that really stands out about this film though is the complete lack of special effects but dont let that put you off because it actually makes the film a whole lot more realistic plus what it lacks in special effects it makes up for with added suspense, tension and amazing performances from all of the cast and as a result is alot more enjoyable than most films following similar stories that have taken the other route.
The soundtrack doesn't really jump out at you and make you remember it but at the same time i found it was very fitting and really helped to build the eerie and intense atmostphere that you would expect from this type of film. Overall i really enjoyed watching Outpost and it is definately a film i could watch again and due to the many twists in the story and high body count it towers over the competition by far.
Price & Availability:
You can purchase a copy of Outpost from Amazon for around £10 but as it has not yet been released in this country you will have to remember that it will only be available in Region 1 format (US and Canada only) but if your DVD player / PC can play these discs it is definately a film that is well worth buying.

In The Name Of The King begins when Farmers village is overrun by half beast half man creatures called Krug summoned and commanded by the evil Nexus Gallian that brutally kill most of the inhabitants, burn down all the homes and take the women and children as prisoners after the invasion is finished and the Krug have left the village Farmer realizes that both his wife and son are missing and so with the help of his brother in law Bastian and good friend Norick he begins his journey to rescue his wife and son but along the way finds that his son has been killed quickly turning this from a rescue mission into one of vengeance.
Meanwhile back at the castle the kings heir and nephew Duke Fallow conspires with Gallian and offers him safe haven in the castle for his help in removing the king from power thus making him king but Fallows plan is flawed as the method used for the kings assasination is poisoning and Fallow himself was dining with the king and in turn gets poisoned himself but with Gallian having the only cure there comes a huge shift in power and Fallow realizes that he is going to forever be under Gallians control and so under Gallians command he raises an army to conquer the known lands with.
Soon the king is aided by his Nexus back to health and when he hears of his nephews conspiracy he gathers the remaining troops and goes in search of Fallow. Farmer and his friends find the kidnapped prisoners from their village but their rescue attempt is foiled resulting in the capture of Bastian and Norick and with Farmer being taken elsewhere to be interrogated and killed but Farmer escapes from his inevitable death and is rescued by the kings Nexus Merick who takes him to the rest of the army to amount an attack on Gallian and Fallow and in turn save his wife and avenge his sons death.
In The Name Of The King has a really great story and follows a similar plot to that of the well known trilogy 'The Lord Of The Rings' with constant twists and turns in the script it will definately keep your attention all the way through and having an all star cast has really paid of as there are very few scenes that are badly casted. All of the performances from the cast are really good but Ray Liotta's role as Gallian in particular really does stand out maikng it almost look as though the part was especially made for him and he does really seem to enjoy it too which adds extra impact, also Jason Statham's part as Farmer was really well played and again did really suit him.
The special effects were really good as well and effects such as Merrick teleporting himself do look coonvincing and when Gallian takes control of his Krug soldiers you get to see what the Krug see but from Gallains perspective which is also really well done and is a great touch the only thing effects wise that even comes close to letting this film down are the costume designs of the Krug which when seen alone at the start do look kinda lame but when you see hundreds of them together they do start to look more convincing.
The soundtrack used is really fitting of an epic adventure fantasy film and really helps buid tension when needed and again helps set the scene for the many battles that come to pass as well as highlighting the mysteries of the various areas in which the film is set.
Overall In The Name Of The King is really well made has a great story and will keep you entertained for hours and as such is well worth buying as it is a film that you can watch again and again.

Alexander follows the true story of Macedonian conquerer Alexander the great and his rise to power over the Persian army which led him famously to controling 90% of the known world with an empire that spread 22,000 miles all the way from Greece to India before the age of 25. The story begins as Alexanders father king Philip is murdered leaving Alexander to take the throne at the young age of 20 and continue in his fathers crusade to crush the persian army.
His first battle is with the mighty Darius commander of the Persian army and the man Alexander suspects of funding his fathers murder, Though being greatly outnumbered with his 40,000 troops to the 200,000 strong Persian slave army he rises to victory and forces Darius into exile proving he has his fathers leadership skills and winning over his army's loyalty.
Successful in his battles against the persians and ruler of all he decides to make a new home in Babylon but Alexanders lust for victory does not end there and so he moves his army west into the unchartered lands central Asia where he takes an Asian bride in order to unite the two cultures much to his armies discontent before finally venturing to the Hindu Kush further than any greek had ever travelled before but when his leadership is in question by his troops and plots for his demise emerge soon the only person he can trust is his close 'friend' Hephaistion in this tale of victory and betrayal.
This film is probably one of the most factual representations of the tale of Alexander the great that has been produced so far and rightly so too as director Oliver Stone consulted with many historians before production began to make this film feel as realistic as possible. The story holds strong throughout which is quite an accomplishment being as it is a three hour long film and it really does it does keep your attention from start to finish, The soundtrack is really fitting and not only helps to set the scene for the gruesome battles but adds to the ever building mystery and tension and appropriately changes as they venture to new lands which helps you to identify with the ever changing scenery and the sound effects sound very realstic and add a lot of depth to the few and far between battle scenes.
The performances of the cast were all pretty good especially that of Colin Farrell as Alexander however there were also alot of poor casting decisions as many of them do not suit their on screen counter parts at all. On the whole i did really enjoy this film but found that the interest in this film mainly lies with the women that venture into Alexanders life and not so much in the battles as i had previously hoped.
Overall if you have a spare three hours to waste and your willing to ignore the poor casting this is a really enjoyable film to watch and one i would recommend to fans of Troy and 300 or anyone just looking for a factual representation of the Alexander the great tale.

Cypress Hill - IV
Released: 6 October 1998
Produced By: DJ Muggs
Label: Ruff House
Firstly Who Are Cypress Hill?
Cypress Hill are are Hip-Hop collective consisting of three main rappers B-Real, Sen Dog & Eric BoBo who alongside DJ producer DJ Muggs who formed in the late 80's. Originally the group consisted of school friends Louis Freese (B-Real), Lawrence Muggerud (DJ Muggs), Senen Reyes (Sen Dog) and Ulpiano Sergio Reyes (Mellow Man Ace) but before their debut in 1988 Mellow Man Ace seperated from the group to further a solo career and was replaced by Eric Correa (Eric BoBo) although he has had guest appearances on most of their albums.
Originally released in the US in 1998 and then later in 2001 for the UK IV is one of Cypress Hill's most creative albums to date with a good variation of tracks ranging from the chilled out Tequila Sunrise to the more fast paced Checkmate all of which are really well produced and really compliment each other well on the album. The first thing that stands out about this album is the cover it depicts three skeletons stood in a line the first covering its eyes, the second holding its ears and the third covering its mouth this was done to signify the popular saying see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil.
1. Lookin' Through the Eye of a Pig - 4:06
2. Checkmate - 3:35
3. From the Window of My Room - 5:00
4. Prelude to a Come Up - 3:24
5. Riot Starter - 4:16
6. Audio X - 3:19
7. Steel Magnolia - 3:30
8. I Remember That Freak Bitch - 5:22
9. Nothin' to Lose - 3:53
10. Tequila Sunrise - 4:44
11. Dead Men Tell No Tales - 2:47
12. Feature Presentation - 3:45
13. Dr. Greenthumb - 4:24
14. 16 Men Till There's No Men Left - 4:20
15. High Times - 4:13
16. Clash of the Titans - 4:45
17. Lightning Strikes - 5:54
18. Case Closed -2:00
I purchased my copy of Cypress Hill - IV from Amazon about two weeks ago for just £4 including postage costs which i thought was really good value but i was first introduced to this album back in 2005 by a friend of mine who was attempting to teach me how to play a guitar riff from the track Tequila sunrise which now is one of my favourite tracks on the album despite the fact i had listened to it over and over trying to perfect this. My three favourite tracks on the album are 'Dr. Green Thumb' which is pretty much about a guy who has decided to grow his own weed because he got fed up with buying it off corrupt cops and getting busted for it five minutes later! 'Tequila Sunrise' which features an inticate sounding spanish guitar riff and the main theme seems to be lifes short to hang around so go for the gusto and make your money while you still can and finally 'Checkmate' which highlights the paranoia involved in gang war and the pressure when you realise the only person you have in life you can trust is yourself. The only track that disappointent me on this album was 'Lightning Strikes' which was mainly due its unoriginality but it is still a track that i do listen to regularly.
Having been a fan of Cypress Hill for about 8 years now IV really did not disappoint me and being both really varied & well produced it is an album that i would highly recommend but having said that Cypress Hill is kind of an acquired taste and therefore will not appeal to everyone also this version is definately not suitable for younger fans but luckily for them Cypress Hill also released a clean version without all the swearing and adult references.

This action / shooter features Wesley Snipes as former CIA agent ames Dial living out his retirement on a secluded ranch in Montana, Dial recieves news from his government contact Collins that a terrorist target from his last mission is still alive and is being held in a british prison and is offered a contract to assasinate the terrorist however the contract follows Moscow rules which state that if he fails and is discovered Dial will be left to die in Britain with the US denying that he was ever there. Dial arrives in London where is is met by his britsh contact Cramston and starts to plan his assasination attempt but when things go horribly wrong and his partner is killed Dial has no choice but to go into hiding at a local safe house where he is befriended by his neighbour a 12 year old girl named Emily.
Now stuck in England and his face showing on every news broadcast Dial begins to realise he has been set up and has to try to figure out a way to get home but with all the media attention and his picture in all the airports Dial has no choice but to lay low and think up a new escape plan when he starts to get hunted down by british authorites after being framed for the murder of their leading investigator Windsor now before he can go home he must prove his innocence and so goes in search Collins for answers about his betrayal.
From the very start of this film you will notice that is not the typical high profile blockbuster that Snipes usaully stars in and could even be the worst film that i have ever seen him in. The story is shockingly boring and predictable throughout and theres only about ten minutes of action in the whole film which are split into five minutes right at the start and about five minutes before the end so you will end up getting real bored in the hour and a half in between.
About the only thing this film has going for it is the special effects used for explosions but with them being few and far between they do not really help the overall outlook of this film at all. The storyline is pretty much just a carbon copy of 'The Shooter' with only a few minor changes made to it and to be honest this film is really not worth watching if you have seen 'The Shooter'.
The casting for this film is also totally unconvincing as the girl that they have picked out to play Emily looks and acts much older than the 12 year old she is trying to play but having said that her performance was alot better than that of Snipes. The soundtrack is yet another thing that seriously lacks in this film and does not really add anything at all except possibly more boredom to it.
Overall if you are a die hard Wesley Snipes fan you may get some enjoyment out of this film but for everyone else i would highly recommend overlooking this title and going straight for 'The Shooter' instead.

The Contractor is available to buy from Amazon for as little as £6
but in my opinion this is too much as you will probably just end up using the disc as a coaster for your coffee cup

Underdog tells the tale of a young beagle who has been trained as a bomb sniffing dog and who one day made the most monumental mistake of his career and instead of finding the bomb and getting the glory he finds a ham strapped to the top of a building and gets the sack. Now disheartened and feeling like things couldn't get much worse he soon realises that he is wrong and that this was only the beginning as he gets captured by the evil Dr. Barsinister who has plans to experiment on the dog to try to create a chemical concoction that will enable him to change himself from a demented half pint scientist into the biggest super villain known to man.
Following an accident in the lab which left the beagle covered in a chemical cocktail he gets simply tossed to the streets where he gets run down by ex policeman and Barsinisters security guard Dan Unger after noticing that the dog has no collar or tags he decides to adopt the beagle as his own and takes it back to his son Jack who names the dog shoeshine boy.
Now with a name, a house and a family that loves him shoeshine feels as though everything has settled down and sorted itself out he starts noticing changes about himself such as having more strength, better hearing and a louder bark but without guidance the best use he can find for his new found powers is scaring the post man that is until Jack realises whats going on and convinces him to use his powers to fight crime and impress his newly found lady friend Polly Purebread a spaniel who belongs to Jacks school friend Molly. But no super hero is complete without a costume and secret identity so the pair design a costume and shoeshine assumes the super hero identity of Underdog.
However Dr. Barsinister soon realises what has happened and starts plotting on how to recapture the dog, retrieve its powers and return Underdog to his normal canine self and wont let anything stand in his way. Now with more to deal with than just impressing his lady friend, Saving the world and trying to keep his true identity a secret Underdog must defeat Barsinister before he gets turned into a mere dog again!
The first time i watched Underdog i was bit dissapointed with the film but then i was not really paying that much attention to it so it was probably mainly my fault however upon rewatching it a few times my opinion has completely changed. The effects used to transform a normal dog into underdog were amazing and i was particularly surprised at how seemless the transformation was it really looks like the dog is talking and flying! The soundtrack of the film is not really that memorable but then that does mean that is cant have been that bad!
There are a few prodution flaws in the film such as in a scene wher underdog buries a bomb he puts it on the floor and starts digging then moments later it cuts to a a view inside the newly created tunnel and underdog has the bomb in his mouth! but as i said they are all very minor glitches and not really that noticeable unless you are looking for them.
All performances from the cast are really well presented and i was really impressed with the production teams work transforming an Oompa-Loompa into a super villain something that i did not see working too well personally but thankfully i was wrong and this just added an extra level of humour to the film instead.
My favourite part in the film was where Underdog first turns into a hero and is trying to find a catchphrase where after many hillarious combinations he settles on 'Theres no need to worry, Underdog is furry!' other good funny qoutes from the film include 'Yeah right & I'm going to learn manners from a guy who pees in my white porcelain drinking bowl!' and a conversation between Jack and shoeshine in which shoeshine says 'Y'know, you never see dogs hurting each other for money.' to which Jack replies 'Yeah well you never see people sniffing each other's butts!'
Overall Underdog is great fun for all the family and is definately a film worth watching more than once as it portrays pure comic genius from start to finish and although at first it looks like a kids film it does contain some humour that will appeal to adults.
Underdog is available on DVD in region 1 format from Amazon for around £9 but this does mean that you will need a multi region DVD player anmd a compatable NTSC television in order to watch it but it is also being released in cinemas across the country from the 1st of February 2008 for all those who dont have a multi region DVD setup.

Malibu's most wanted is a hillarious comedy about B-Rad a young white aspiring rapper coming from a well off family living in Malibu who spends most of his time with his homies Hadji & Monster drinkin' forties, spittin rhymes and generally livin life as a wannabe gangsta, Whilst his father on the other hand is a high profile candidate running for governor of California.
The story starts as Brad arrives home after a days partying to find his driveway filled with the media and after recently submitting a copy of his demo album 'Maliboo-Tay' to a recording studio he presumes that they are there for him so makes a bit of a show for the cameras and gets out and starts rapping..... Well trying to anyway! However after making a fool of himself for a while he finally realises that the media were actually there for his fathers pre election speech and he had just ruined it! Furious at this his father wanst B-rad to give up his wannabe gangsta life and live a nice normal quiet one instead so that he does not have to keep going through this embarassment all the time.

Ronnie the Rizat Rap - Featuring Snoop Dogg
Brad and Mom
Sean & PJ's Mirror Rehearsals
Your Momma's So Fat
B-Rad's Dream Sequence
If you enjoyed 'Dont be a menace to South Central' or 'How High' then this is definately a film for you with its own special brand of humour running constantly throughout. The film was really well cast and Kennedy's role as B-Rad was second to none as was Anthony Andersons role as actor come kidnapper P.J. The production of this film could have been better though as there are several scenes that things disapear from actors wrists or move in the background but hey this was never meant to be a hollywood drama masterpiece and as such some of this could have been intentional. This film also has a great soundtrack apart from added offerings from B-Rad of course! All of the special features are worth takin a look at too with the exception of the audio commentaries as they are a bit lame.
Overall this is a great film to throw on if your just sat around drinking with some friends and despite a few production flaws it still makes for an enjoyable way to pass some time, However it is probably not a film you could watch again and again as although the humour is great to start with it does go dry with repeated viewings.

The Bloody Truth Special Make Up Effects.
This film begins when a bus full of tourists crashes near a remote Brazilian beach beach town, And with the next bus not due for another three days the the tourists find themselves stranded. After some thought a small group of them decide to try to find somewhere local to stay for until they can catch the next bus and continue upon thier journey. The group stumble upon some more travellers in a bar on a nearby beach who inform them that for a small fee they would all be able to stay on the beach overnight. They decide stay on the beach and decide to start thier holiday early, with nothing but a bar and beach in sight a beach party sets off and the group are drugged and robbed by the locals.
When the group come round the next morning they realise that all of thier posessions are gone and to make matters worse when they go to report in the nearest town they get a less than hospitable welcome and the whole town turns against them, They finally find someone in the town who supposedly wants to help them to retrieve thier belongings and help them continue thier journey.
But the group soon find out that there are worse things than being robbed in this area of brazil as the guide betrays them and walks them straight in to a trap!
I thought this was a really well written a produced film which after a slow start kept me on the edge of my seat thoughout. The soundtrack wasn't that good but the setting for the film was perfect with the secluded pure white beach's and clear blue sea giving the illusion of safety and serenity to start with and as you get further into the film you will notice that conditions soon begin to worsen as the group enter a poverty stricken village and then a seemingly abandonded house in the middle of nowhere which adds to the intense atmostphere the film tries to create. All of the cast performed well and there were no particulaly cheesey cliche moments that you may have come to expect from this type of film. Fans of such films as hostel and wrong turn will really love this film.
Overall despite a slightly slow start and poor soundtrack this is definately a film worth watching as you will still be kept entertained throughout and are always trying to figure out what sort of deadly secrets this island has instore for the group.

Blade 2 sees Wesley Snipes make his return as daywalker Blade half man half vampire he has all of their strengths and none of their weaknesses. In this sequel Blade hears of rumours that old friend Whistler who was thought to have been brutally murdered in the last film is being kept alive by the vampires so he goes on a rescue mission but shortly after saving Whistler and returning home Blades hideout is infiltrated by two masked messengers who bring news from the vampire council of a truce with Blade and tell of a new breed of vampire that has recently emerged which they have named the reaper strain, A new species that not only feeds on humans but also on vampires and whose numbers are increasing such at an alarming rate that they could threaten to wipeout both races completely.
Reluctantly Blade agrees to work with the vampires to eliminate the reaper threat and is introduced to his team a group called the Bloodpack lead by vampire Reinhardt who have been training to take Blade out for the last 2 years now forced to fight side by side its not long before betrayal is in the air and soon Blade realises that the truce was nothing more that a front and the only person he can trust is himself. As Blade digs deeper into the mystery surrounding the sudden appearance of reaper strain he discovers that there is a lot of information that everyone has been neglecting to inform him and suspects the vampire council may know alot more than they are letting on but hey you know the saying keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
Blade 2 is action packed throughout and its story has enough intricate twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout and with excellent performances from the whole cast it makes a worthy sequel to the original film. Newcomers to this film series need not worry though as all references to the original are coupled with a voiced over video explaing them so you wont be left wondering whats going on throughout the whole film!
The special effects in Blade2 are really good throughout especially the flame effects as the bodies of his vampire victims spontaneously combust and the transformation effects of the reapers mouths as they feed splitting down the middle and opening horizontally and i thought that this did look quite realistic. However there were also a few scenes where the CGI went too far and it became blaitantly obvious what was and wasn't real which did let it down a bit but thankfully Blade 2 has enough action and a good enough story to recover effortlessly from these minor flaws.
The Soundtrack for Blade 2 much like the first mainly consists of hard house and techno and does help set the pace for the action scenes and together with really good use of sound effects add alot of tension and depth to the film. All of the fight scenes look well made and look quite reallistic with exception to one near the start of the film where the CGI took over a little too much.
Overall Blade 2 not only makes a good sequel but is really good as a stand alone film as well so is really good for fans of the original and newbies alike.
Price & Availabilty:
You can buy Blade 2 on DVD from Amazon for around £7 on its own but it is also available as a box set with the other 2 instalments for £14 so is pretty good value for money

The Reaping focusses on Katherine Winter a college professor who prides herself in revealing the so called miracles and mysteries of the world with viable, Scientific explanations. That is of course until she is advised by science teacher Doug Blackwell that a miracle is happening right now in his hometown of Haven a small town in Louisiana that is believed by its residents to be the best kept secret in the bible. An entire river has turned blood red without any explanation and the God fearing residents believe this to be the first of the 10 deadly plagues, Eager to prove that this is no more than an ellaborate hoax Katherine has to take a look so she contacts ex teaching assistant and colleague Ben and they drive to Haven to see if they can explain the unfolding mystery.
When they arrive in Haven they are greeted by local Isabelle who takes them to the local church where Doug and Havens mayor are waiting to show them to the river but when they arrive both are completely speechless as there seems to be no explanation for the unfolding events other than divine intervention and after digging around for some sort of information they find that it all started with the mysterious death of a young child and all fingers point towards his younger sister who witnessed the murder but soon the river of blood is not their only problem as slowly one by one and in order the biblical plagues of Exodus become a modern day reality.
As Katherine delves further into this mystery she starts having flashbacks of her husband and daughter being sacraficed as an offering to God after a huge drought broke out when they went to Sudan as aid workers following Katherine being ordained as a minister which subsequently ended her faith in God.
Faced with talks of a satanic cult and past memories resurfacing Katherine is forced to question her faith again and fight for survival whislt trying to solve this illusive mystery and prevent all hell breaking out on earth but the closer she gets to solving it the more twisted it becomes and it is soon apparent that the whole town is in on whatever has happened.
The Reaping gives an interestingly original approach to a biblical horror film as its story is based tales from Exodus rather than the more popular book of revelations and as such it is one that has not been seen too often however it is still fairly predictable and you do kinda figure out whats going on about halfway through. However it does provide enough tension to keep you entertained throughout.
The special effects on the whole were pretty good in The Reaping and with exception to the river of blood which really doesn't look like blood and a scene in which a statue erupts really unrealisticly into a swarm of flies and alongside great use of sound effects and a carefully chosen musical score they really add to the ever building tension and will have you at the edge of your seat.
I really enjoyed watching The Reaping and thought that most of the cast performed reasonably well throughout with the exception of a few of the locals and Stephen Rea as Father Costigan who didn't seem at all convincing but having said that it was alot better of an attempt at horror than most recent offerings. I thought that the dream / flashback sequences were particularly well done and do blend seemlessly with reality but also really added depth to the film slowly filling you in with Katherines past as it becomes more relevant with the present events unfolding in front of her.
Overall this is a good film and one that is worth watching with some interesting twists but it is sadly let down by predictability and a handfull of bad cast perfomances. However i would still reccomend seeing this as it is really entertaining throughout despite its flaws.
Price & Availability:
The reaping is available to buy on DVD for around £10 from Amazon and is also available at blahdvd.com for about £7 so it could be worth shopping around on this one.

Shrooms is a film that focuses on a group of five american students who plan to go on vacation to Ireland to meet up with old study friend Jake and whislt there sample the infamous 'Liberty Cap'. The 'Liberty Cap' is a strain of magic mushroom that just happens to be amongst the strongest form of 'Shrooms' in the world and just happen to be native to britain.
The film starts off in an airport where the group meet up with Jake and drive the rest of the way to their destination in his campervan wher he educates them in the different species of mushrooms and warns all of them not to confuse the Liberty Caps with 'Death Caps' as these are lethal if ingested but it is rumoured that if you can survive the Death Caps toxins you will be granted the gift of foresight and may be left posessed.
When the group arrive at their desination a large lake surrounded by woodland in a remote location they are all told that there is to be no contact with the outside world and all sources of communication a placed in a lock box and locked away in the camper. After the group set up camp for the night they venture off into the woods to find some shrooms to brew up for the next day and all is going well too until Tara trips up and lands staring a death cap in the face and despite earlier warnings she proceeds to eat the mushroom, Immediately she falls to the floor and starts convulsing when Jake sees her from a distance and rushes to her aid, After revivin Tara he takes her back to the campsite where she stays in her tent and tries to sleep off the intense hallucinations caused by the death cap.
Meanwhile the rest of the group all sit around the fire and Jake begins to tell a ghost story supposedly set in their very location about an abusive monk and a group of orphans that were all killed nearby but the remains of the monk and one of the orphans were never found. During the night a strange figure is seen lurking outside of the tents which the group presume is Bluto a big fight breaks out and Bluto is left to sleep alone in front of the fire.
Still frustrated with his friends for not believing it wasn't him outside the tents he pours a large dose of the 'Shroom Juice' still brewing over the fire into a cup and downs it all moments later transfixed in a hallucination he ventures into the woods alone where he begins to see a ghostly figure following him and runs deeper into the woods. Back at the campsite Tara awakes from a horrific nightmare in which Bluto gets brutally murdered by a ghostly hooded figure, She goes outside to check if he is alright but when she notices he is nowhere to be seen she goes out to search for him and finds him shaking in a heap on the floor in the middle of the woods so she takes him back to the campsite and tries to get back to sleep.
The next morning the group wake up to find Bluto is missing again fearing for his safety they go back to the van to call for help but they get there only to find out thgat all of the phones have been stolen and Bluto has the keys. Still shaken by her nightmare the previous night Tara insists that they go in search of Bluto and drags Lisa and Holly along to help her look whilst Jake and Troy Stay at the camp and finish the 'Shroom Juice' suspecting that Bluto is just off in his own world tripping somewhere and will probably be back later.
During their search the girls find Blutos severed hand on the flood and start to panic but are unsure if what they are seeing is actually real or if this is all just a savagely realistic hallucination so they delve deeper into the woods where they find a pair of deformed hillbillies living in a make shift shack and ask for help but the longer they are there the more they suspect that the hillbillies may have killed Bluto so they make their escape but split up and end up dying off one by one but who is killing them the ghostly hooded monk depicted from the story Jake was telling, the hillbillies or something else or even if any of this is real at all.
From the start of the film you will notice that this is a low budget film which takes from the stories of such films as 'The Hill Have Eyes' and 'The Blair Witch Project' and as such i wasn't really expecting that much from it and my reservations were well met too as the story was about as predictable as you could get, The casts performances were lame throughout and it has some of the worst camera angles i have seen and some scenes the only thing in the shot is an actors feet or an out of focus bush it was not the best viewing experience in the world.
That said alot of research into mushrooms had been done for this film as some of the special effects did look realistic but unfortunately it appears as though the production team took to many shrooms in this research period and that this may be why the filming was so bad. The soundtrack to shrooms was somewhat unmemorable but together clever use of sound effects it did create the suspense and mystery needed to make you think something was always around the corner even though sadly there never was.
Amongst Shrooms' many flaws is continuity as there are many scenes in which charcters have blood on them in one scene and its gone the next only to reappear moments later in a different place this also happens with the camper van near the start of the film they hit a goat in it and the blood and damage to the vehicle just disappears moments later never to be seen again.
Overall Shrooms really lacked any real horror element with no real gore and nothing that will really make you jump is it right that it be put into this category? In my opinion its not so as far as horrors go i would not reccomend this film to anyone to buy but if its the only thing on its not too bad. It also highlights the dangers of doing hallucinagenic drugs.
Price & Availability:
Shrooms is available to buy on DVD from Amazon for around £12 in Woolworths for £11 and on Ebay for £10 but to be honest you would be better off waiting for it to be shown on television.

Wrong Turn 2: Dead End
Director: Joe Lynch
Released: 25 August 2007
Runtime: 93 minutes
Erica Leerhsen - Nina
Henry Rollins - Colonel Dale Murphy
Texas Battle - Jake
Daniella Alonso - Amber
Steve Braun - Jonesy
Aleksa Palladino - Mara
Matthew Currie Holmes - Michael
Crystal Lowe - Elena
Kimberly Caldwell - Kimberly
Wayne Robson - Old Man
Ken Kirzinger - Pa
Ashlea Earl - Ma
Clint Carleton - Brother
Rorelee Tio - Sister
Jeff Scrutton - Three Finger
The story begins with Kimberly a contestant for a post nuclear fallout reality survival show called apocolyse. On her way to the filming location she runs down a deformed looking crazy hillbilly freak and she checks to see if it is ok but soon realises it is her that will be needing the help as another quickly creeps up behind her and the pair of them brutally murder her biting her mouth off and slicing her in half vertically.
Later at the filming location the shows staff and other contestants all just presume that Kimberly has just withdrawn from the show without notice when she doesn't show up and oblivious to her savage murder moments before they cast cameraman and director Micheals girlfriend Mara in as her replacement. Now split into pairs the group are given their briefing by host of the show and retired USMC Colonel Dale Murphy the group are told that they are in a radiation filled area and are probably surrounded by crazy radiation fueled carnivores trying to kill and eat them and that any or all of the food they may find could also be contaminated.
The radiation is symbolised by necklaces that they all must wear at all times but if they become infected they have a chance to perform a task to allow them to exchange their contaminated necklace with anyone else in the game eliminating them and allow that player to survive for another day but soon the group start to realise that this area really does hide some dark and sinister secrets and that they really will have to use all their survival skills and fight and not just for survival on the show anymore now their lives may actually depend on it.
Wrong Turn 2: Dead End is definately not a film for the squeemish as right from the start the audience is thrust into the action with the first of numerous brutal killings just moments into the film before the opening credits have even finished and it doesn't stop there either its a full on gore fest from here on out as the rest of the cast start to drop like flies. The storyline is pretty good but one that you will find pretty easy to predict as this sort of film has been done so many times before but none the less it is still entertaining throughout and the constant in your face gore kinda helps you forget about it.
The special effects throughout are amazingly realistic and believable for both the make up oif the hillbilly crazies down to the explosions of blood as corpses are cut to pieces and people and crazies alike a mutilated. The sound effects are also really good and they make very good use of an eerie soundtrack to set a tense and shocking atmostphere throughout.
My favourite part in the film was a scene in which Colonel Murphy is fighting with the hillbillies father and manages to strap a stick of dynamite to his back with out the hillbilly noticing the fight continues until they eventually make their way outside when the hillbillies father notices moments too late and explodes into a mist of blood.
Overall this is a good film with loads of gore and good performances from all the cast but the storyline could have been better however this is still alot better than the first Wrong Turn and has also been left open ended for a third so if you do enjoy this film then you may have something to look forward to in the future!
