Genetics are a weird thing - the family gene pool is up from grabs with the good and bad features and unfortunatley for me my siblings seemed to push me away from the pouty lip gene grabbing it for themselves, draining the family gene pool leaving me with stick men lips!! I have always had a bit of the green eyed monster for my sister's gorgeous full lips and so when I saw Lip Injection Extreme (the normal strength wasnt for me!! I dont do anything by halves!) by Too Faced in Boots I thought I'd give it a try.
The counter has to be hunted down (in my local boots) as it doesnt seem to be with the other makeup brands, which is how I stumbled upon it whilst trying to find new tweezers!!
The product comes in a box, which should be sealed - I advise checking this as I almost perchased one that some naughty person had tested and scrumpled back into the box!! Which was well annoying as there was already a tester out - not that I'd ever use a tester product on my lips - and this one should definatley not be used anywhere else but there - as the area will swell!! On the box it gives a breif description and states that it can plump the lips because of four advanced lip plumping science technologies. It also states that it must be used day and night for at least 30 days to see any lasting results, and for a boost during the day you can use normal strength lip injection. Hmmm I thought I'll give it a try!!
Once home I opened my sealed box (as I was dying to see if I could have Angelina lips!!) and opened the small bottle. It smelt quite fruity and came complete with a wand - just like a normal lip gloss. The gloss itself is rather thick and doesnt run like some lip glosses can. All in all I'd say the texture is like a more expensive lip gloss i.e. dior etc.
I applied it like the box said on just my lip area, it glided on with ease. After a few seconds there was a quite intense burning sensation - however I didnt find it unbearable and it only lasted for about 5 minutes, tho the box does say upto 15mins. I could feel my lips getting hot - which was obviously the blood rushing to the area to plump up my pout. As such your lips turn quite red, which does settle down to your normal lip colour again quite soon.
The effect was instant, I couldnt believe my eyes! I had lips!!! My sister was amazed - my lips were bigger than hers LOL. I felt instantly sexy and wanted to pout my way down the high street - however I didnt act on the urge until later with a night on the tiles!!
The effect lasted for approx 5hrs - which amazed me!
You can use your existing lipstick/gloss over the top of it after a few minutes and it gives fab results especially if you use a glittery one which adds to the effect. However it is quite glossy even without the added top coat of your own gloss.
The downside is the price; it cost £17.00 for the extreme and £10.00 for the normal strength, however I have been using them for over a month now and still have plenty, plus I have noticed a lasting effect, my lips are plumper now even when I am not using it (I now only use it for nights out).
It is also now available in the normal strength as a coloured lip gloss - however I find whilst it gives the same effect as the normal strength lip injection, the colour isnt as good as if you use the clear with your own lip gloss.
It is available from Boots as I have said previously and I also recently saw it in Debenhams.
My opinion is that I would definatley say the effect is worth the cost
We are now living in a throw away generation, litter seems to be everywhere on our streets; in the countryside, on our roads and even in our places of work. Nobody likes it and yet so few of us do anything about it.
My review doesn't focus on individuals that litter (which is majorly annoying) but rather on environmental and economic loss.
Most counties have in place recycling schemes which do help 'reduce' waste i.e. the amount we dump into the ground as landfill, however the majority of waste that is collected by the council as 'recycling' is not recycled because the council recycling plants cant deal with it and so it ends up as landfill anyway.
Also in terms of waste, recycling is not always the best method as some materials actually use more energy being recycled than they do being made as a new product.
I am not saying that recycling is a bad thing, of course it is an excellent idea, however the method used must balance other factors such as how much CO2 is being pumped into the atmosphere etc.
Its about time manufacturers actually did something about how much 'waste' we have from packaging. How many times have you bought cereal in a box and opened it just to find the box is filled with a plastic bag which doesn't even fill the box! It is a waste, not only of materials but also transportation costs and again as such factors greatly into economic costs in fuel, energy consumption etc. Personally I wouldn't mind if my cereal came in a sealed bag and not even in a box. (sweets would also be a good example of wasted packaging).
In Japan companies have developed unique ways to tackle waste (due to their small land space), sweet companies for example; have developed up with edible wrappers for boiled sweets. how many sweet papers plus the original bag are thrown out for say a trip to the cinema complete with a bag of starburst? If more companies came up with new packaging ideas just think of how much waste could be eliminated! Some have already started by bringing out concentrated fabric conditioner etc, small changes make a huge difference.
Also being in the society that we are; we all like convience of supermarkets and progress but we have created a problem of massive amounts of milk cartons being thrown away each day by not having the milk man deliver milk in glass bottles, which were recycled and delivered to the home each morning. It seems almost mad that we have moved away from systems that worked to ones that create more waste, pop bottle would be another example!
The amount of landfill that we produce each year must be reduced, not only are we wasting valuable resources and finite materials but we also are discarding energy each time we throw away a bin of rubbish. In terms of energy for every 2 1/2 bags of rubbish we throw away it equated 1 bag of coal. Some councils are therefore considering opening brand new incinerators which also heat hot water to say either heat a hospital building/school etc or to produce steam to power an electric generator. This will create waste gases some of which could be damaging i.e. CO2, SO2, NOx etc but does obviously have benefits in that the 'fuel' isn't being mined or producing transportation costs. It also reduces hygiene problems caused by landfill by not creating an environment that doesn't cause dangerous leaching or a breeding ground for rats or those of the flying variety (also known as seagulls!).
Another possible solution of getting something from a bad scenario would be to 'tap' the methane gas which is produced by landfill decay and use it was fuel. This has been done in America to quite a success.
There are many ways of dealing with waste, all of which have their own set of problems and some create more than they solve but something has to be done and soon.
Being a huge James fan for what feels like an eternity, I rushed to get this on preorder and then was disappointed when Asda didn't deliver it on time, however I did get it for a bargain price at the time so I cant really complain.
Hey Ma is the first brand new album from the band since they reformed (much to the delight of old James fans everywhere!).
For those that don't know who James are but feel the name rings a vague bell, they were the band responsible for the huge hit 'Sit Down', which is probably their most recognisable tune, yet in my opinion not their best.
Tim Booth's haunting vocals sound right out on this album bringing a chill to the spine. The first song 'Bubbles' is a totally beautiful song full of delicate emotion, definitely one of their best songs and the style of it is probably closer to their 'Laid' album, which is one of my favourite albums by the band.
If you love James 'old style' from latter days the track 'White boy' will not disappoint. Its full of what can only be described as pure James old school sound!
The title track 'Hey Ma' is probably one of the most haunting on the album and shows the strength of Tim Booth's vocal talent., full of sad and tragic lyrics that make you reflect on what has happened in the world.
I bought the CD from Asda as previously stated for approx £8.90 ish.
The CD tracks are as below:
02. Hey Ma
04. Oh My Heart
05. Boom Boom
07. Upside Down
10. Of Monsters And Heroes And Men
11. I Wanna Go Home
As usual James deliver a total rollercoaster of emotions all wrapped up in a CD that lasts for approx 45mins - totally recommened and if u get a chance to see them live you will not be disappointed!!
Princess is a delightfully girly scent.
It has a very soft and light fragrance yet it has fantastic staying power. It is not an over bearing scent so you need not worry about smelling like the local perfume counter!
Although the overall scent is very feminine which immediately would make me think of floral scents; it does have quite fruity notes. It is quite an exotic scent with undertones of pink guava fruit and vanilla. It also contains hints of Lady Apple, Waterlily, Tahitian Tiare Flower with the unusual combination of Dark Chocolate.
The bottle looks gorgeous on the dresser ; it is very sweet in a soft lilac coloured crystal heart bottle. The cap of the bottle is a gold coloured crown which is decorated with small lavender crystals. There is a treasure to be found under the cap as it hides a gold band, which again adorned with small lilac crystals. The band can be worn as a ring - at a guess I'd estimate it as a UK size N. Which is quite an average size so I'd assume it would fit one finger of most women.
The staying power of this scent is fantastic, I put it on at 8am and could still smell it at 6pm.
Due to the light airy sweet smell I'd say it was best suited to daytime wear or for a romantic date rather than a heavy night on the tiles.
The disadvantage can be the price, I paid £56 for 100ml, however it was well worth the money and all my friends are now trying to 'pinch' it from my dresser.
If your not sure what perfume to buy your girlfriend/wife/friend, I'd definitely give this a buy as it has something for everyone due to its very unique aroma
Elemis is a brand I love. The products are a little bit more expensive than your usual top brand cosmetics but I am yet to find a product that they make that I dont like or dont think works.
I have very poor skin on my hands; its not only super sensitive but also can be very dry and cracked due to my eczema. Which means I have two problems my skin is so sensitive that I cant use hand creams and my hands are so dry with eczema that I need to use a hand cream! So since I had already tried using elemis products on my face I thought I'd try out their hand cream.
It cost me £29.00 on their timetospa.co.uk website which does sound expensive however it lasts forever!! Well its lasted me 6months anyway - which seems forever especially as I use it twice a day everyday. You only need a tiny amount of the product which makes it economical .
The cream itself comes in a smart royal blue tube which I believe is because it is part of the 'aroma spa' range. It has a gorgeous smooth and rich texture and a delightful aroma which is mostly lavendar based.
I have found that since using this my hands havent 'cracked' at all and are very smooth. Not only has it improved the condition of my hands 300% it also didnt sting or hurt me at all when my hands were cracked.
I'd recommend this product most highly to anyone with poor hand condition.
Being a teacher means that I need to know alot about sites that are currently 'in' and are 'cool', it helps me associate with my pupils and quite often I find that some of these sites can be quite addictive - no the wonder I get very little pupil completed homework during the week lol
Neopets is a brilliant site that you can quite easily play on for 5 mins of 5 hours of a day. There are lots of tasks and you can be part of it as mich or as little as you want to be.
All of the neopets have unique species names i.e. poogle, wooky, chia, etc. The main aim for neopets is to take care of your neopet, which you select and then 'hatch'. Its rather like those cyber pets but much cuter! To do this you have to play with your pet and you can buy toys etc from the various neopia shops. You also need to buy food, drinks, grooming things, books.
The pets all live in neopia which has many different lands, all of which can be explored and have their own unique features.
The site has some nifty ideas when leveling up, i.e. by reading more books your pets intelect will increase. But your pet can also get ill either by lack of attention and food or by 'something happening' i.e. chia pox etc, you then have to buy the correct medicine.
You can also buy paint brushes which can transform your pet into a different species, colour or make it special i.e. fairy brush with transform your pet into a fairy or halloween paintbrush can transform your pet into a halloween version. Some are much cuter than others. Sometimes you may be lucky to win these paint brushes in a game but usually you will need to purchase one from another player's shop and they are very very expensive.
If your up to a challenge you can take mini quests for items on the site, but be warned as your levels go up they get more difficult and can cost more points to buy the items you need. But you do get a prize for completing quests i.e. leveling up, a rare item or points. However its a risk that you may use more points than you gain from these quests.
Not only does your pet get to have fun but you can also by playing any of the games online i.e. poogle solitaire, wooky races etc. You can even battle with your neopet in the battle area when challenged by another player. You can purchase battle armour to help you in this and can train to increase your battle skills.
Neopets themselves can have their own pet! All of which are cute and again can be used in the battle arena.
I have only briefly touched on what you can do on this site but I certainly think its suitable for all genders and age range of about 8+. A strong point of the site is that it keeps personal details secret, which as both a teacher and parent I think very important.
The site also has alot of updates and has its own 'newspaper' to keep you updated of changes, competitions etc. Each character has their own mini legend behind them and you can search the neopedia to find out interesting facts.
And if you get lazy and cant be bothered to watch ur pet you can always book them into the hotel for a few days!!
If you havent checked it out what are you waiting for? www.neopets.com
When you think of fudge you usually think of vanillia flavoured solid cubes however this is where Jim Garrahy's fudge is totally different!
The fudge is totally unique in that it is a hand made, soft and creamy texture. It totally melts in your mouth! To me its more a mixture of fudge and butter icing and totally delicious.
You have two options if you want to purchase the fudge, you can either go to one of the few shops across the country or you can buy online. I first fell in love with the fudge in the York shop however for special occassions I now order it online at www.fudgekitchen.co.uk
There are about 20 flavours of fudge online (toffee, belgian choc, strawberry and cream etc), but if you go to a shop they usually have a unique flavour that is only found in that store.
A box of 6 slices of fudge will cost you about £20.00 which sounds alot until you compare the weight to that of another brand i.e. Thorntons.
The website delivery is very quick indeed and costs about £5.00 which again seems alot until you factor in that it usually comes the next day and the weight of the box (fudge is very heavy).
If you can visit a shop its very worth while as you get to see the fudge made by hand every day. The website has alot of information about the fudge and its shops. They also do a special wedding favor service.
Another plus of the website is that you can get dairy free fudge which can be quite hard to find in the highstreet. Usually they only do this in toffee or vanillia however for special occassions such as Easter they do special diary free boxes.
The downside to this fudge is once you taste it you will crave it forever!!
(also on ciao)
What can I say for these except yummmmmm. I remember when you could only buy these for 2p from the corner shop, well before 'bagged' jellies came out!
They are a firm fav of mine when I goto the cinema. They are bigger than usual for a jelly sweet probably twice the size of a jelly baby, and come in the shape of yes you guessed it; a strawberry! Being haribo means that you are guaranteed a good quality jelly sweet, its texture is very smooth but perhaps more 'gummy' than say a jelly baby. Also the strawberry taste is delicious although too many can be sickly! (but isnt that part of the fun of going to the cinema?).
Although they are one of my firm favs I do find that I have to mix them with other sweets otherwise I get borred quickly of the 'sameness' of flavour. Another downside is that they can stick to your teeth so probably not ideal for that 1st date cinema appeal - gummy strawberry teeth isnt something a 1st date will forget quickly! LOL
Price wise they are quite cheap, I paid about £1 in my local supermarket - which is a fraction of the cost of what the cinema pick n mix will charge you - however I still feel the need to purchase the pick n mix!
I purchased this mascara after recieving a free dior 'goodie' bag with some perfume at Christmas. In that free bag it had the normal dior show mascara and not the waterproof one, but I loved the way it may my eyes stand out. However it was no good in the rain or when swimming - which I do alot.
So I popped down to my local boots and spoke to the over perfumed dior, over oranged counter assistant who despite looking as if she knew nothing about make up really did know her stuff. She recommended I try the waterproof version. So I purchased it in brown as I find black can be too harsh for my pale skin.
The over sized brush on this makes it so easy to apply and I only had to apply it once (as opposed to twice like some cheaper brands) to achieve the desired effect.
Price wise this one is quite high, I paid £18.00 for mine. But buying it from boots meant that I also got my points - which is a plus!
The downsides to this is the price and after about 4 months it starts to clog a little, but once I cleaned the brush in some warm water this didnt happen - also you shouldnt keep mascara for longer than 6mths anyway.
Plus side to using this is that I went swimming for 2 hours and it never budged!! I find that the only way to remove it is using eye make up remover. Brilliant. It also frames your eyes very nice.
I would recommend this to all my friends and would even buy it at twice the price, especially as being a contact lense wearer, my eyes are very sensitive - and this doesnt irritate them at all.
I'll be honest here when I first saw these in the shops 2 years ago I wondered why anyone would put something so ugly on their feet!
Then whilst holiday'n in Spain, I was looking for anything that would make my feet comfy - as the flip flops I had so adored and would totally 'die' for pretty much did make my feet die!! I was in feet holiday hell. So I hit town and decided that if nobody I knew could see me wearing them I'd be ok.
What I hadnt counted on was that once you wear these your feet are spolit for life!! It was like walking on air! They dried quick if you wore them in the pool and didnt rub all day even if you werent wearing socks - which being on holiday I wasnt!
Since buying these in a very nice pale green I now have several pairs but some are more 'shoe' looking than others. The cayman ones I usally only wear on the beach - preferring the alice mary janes for during the daytime - if your on your feet all day they're perfect for you!!
Since expanding crocs now offer a huge colour range and a huge range of styles for both men and women. I tend to buy mine from www.lookatmycrazyshoes.com
I have noticed that if I wear them without socks when driving I do tend to get a static shock when shutting the car door - which could just be coincidence - however its a small price to pay for the heaven that is clouds on your feet! Plus they are totally light weight and dont feel like rubber when your wearing them.
Body Shop Shimmer Cubes are totally fab! They come in a pack of 4 smaller cubes inside a larger cube. This means that they are great to take out with you for 'top' ups.
I first bought the warm shades which I have now had for 14mths and I still have plenty even after wearing them almost everyday. I also recently bought the Christmas special edition which was much cooler tones i.e. silver etc.
The best thing about them is that they are perfect for using both day and night. For a daytime look you can choose to use a brush to apply them to your eyelid. I personally use the lightest shade for everywhere and then use the second darkest shade for my bottom lid and put a bit of gold on the outside crease. Which gives a very subtle effect. Then for night time wow factor you can wet a sponge applicator and the colours become much more intense and shimmery! So its like having a double product. Furthermore I have found that the warm tones can also be used on your cheek area a bit like a bronzer, by using a big brush and blending all four colours together.
It is certainly a versatile product. The downside is the price, body shop cosmetics can be quite pricey. However I bought a ' love your body card', which is soft of a discount card with perks! You get a free gift 3 times a year depending on how many times you shop in the store. Anyway this card gives you 10% discount and sometimes more on special occassions. Its certainly worth the purchase and makes the pinch in the purse much less!
I find that this product lasts all day or night depending on how you have applied it and there is a shade or brick of colours to suit everyone - well worth the buy!!
As a total straightening adict I love using my hair irons (Remmington Wet - Dry) however I find that my hair gets damaged quite quickly in the process. I have very fine, fly-away, blond hair which takes alot of controlling!
In the past I have used Pantene ProV Smooth and Sleek but I find that it makes my hair very greasy. Then at Christmas a most excellent friend bought me the Trevor Sorbie Straightening Adict Shampoo, Conditioner and Protect, Flatter and shine spray. To my great delight I saw an instant improvement in my hair condition and even before blow drying it was straighter! So I decided to buy more, which lead me into Boots where I found that there was a whole range of products. I bought the balm because my hair still had a few stray hairs when styled, and this certainly worked. Its non greasy formula keeps my hair in place for two days without being retouched. Before I had to wash and style my hair each day! i certainly recommend the whole range of these products, and at the moment boots have them on 3 for 2, so you can try them cheaply! Most the products are 4.99 but you can also buy tester/travel size for about 1.70 (which are also on 3 for 2 from Boots).
GirLand is a site mainly for teenage girls, although it does have some male members too.
The site is packed full of things to do, so much so that I think you would find it impossible to do them all in one day! Not only does it have the best of site from it's past i.e. Bulletin Boards, Problem Pages etc. it also has new updates and features.
Girland City (its own virtual world) has also had several updates throughout the years and I feel that this is also great. It is much better than the old chat rooms the site used to have. In this virtual world you have your own character (which you design) and you can interact with other members by chatting in the various locations including your own room, The Park, Disco and now there is even a Health Farm which has several areas including a garden and sauna.
Members are able to design their own clothes for their GirLand City character, however this can be difficult and requires alot of time and patience. But the outcome is worth while, also the software to do this is a free download from the site. When you advance your skills further you can also design furniture. A good advantage of doing this is that you can also 'sell' the items to other members for points or credits as you wish.
Music Compositions can be submitted by again using free software package which you download from the site. I have Vista and have found that it does work with it! Which is a plus as Vista users often can have difficulty on some sites. The software allows you to easily make up a 'tune' with little difficulty even if you have no music knowledge - which I dont and I managed!
Even the member profiles have had a face lift, you can now use html easily with an online editor that GirLand have provided. Also just as, if not more exciting is the new personal BB's. Each member has their own personal BB that they and other members of their choosing can use - Brilliant!!
I think my favourite new feature would have to be the 'Pass The Tag Game', this is an exciting race against the clock tag game, which if you break the record for the greatest amount of people; you and all of your team get a prize. It is certainly the 'buzz' of the site at the moment.
Online safety is very high on GirLand, members are not allowed to give out personal details and GirLand Helpers (staff) moderate the site; with the help of Guardians and Super Guardians. This ensures GirLand is the fun and friendly place.
