The Deer Park (3star) Hotel, in Howth, just outside Dublin Centre(10km) is a hotel that has stunning views that overlook Dublin Bay, and Howth. The hotel was not as grand to look at from the outside as I was expecting, inside the decor is nice, simple and clean. There is free carparking, with good transport links into Dublin centre and a short walk to Howth town. It is advertised as being in the grounds of Howth Castle which it is, but the castle is not open to visitors.
I stayed in earyly August 2011, for just under a week.
The rooms themselves are nice, neat, tidy and clean with ensuite bathrooms, woth great views looking out over the golf course, bays and castle. there are a variety of rooms available for singles, couples and families. I stayed in a double which came with a sofa, table, large tv, tea/coffee facilities large bathroom, bedside cabinets and fair sized wardrobe. The rooms also have free wifi, which did not work for the whole duration of my stay which was a bit annoying as I had work that I had planned to do. I other guest thinking prehaps it was just my laptop connection but they also had this problem. At the reception when reported early on it never got sorted throughout my stay.
They have a peaceful lounge area upstairs with many sofas with views out, and a guest computer which is 1euro for 10 minutes which was incredibly slow, I just managed to check my emails and that is it, a 1minute task normally.
Breakfast was priced at 12.50euro each, I had this for just one day out of my night stay, I was a bit dissapointed with this, I found the cost to be quite expensive for what you got, marketed as a full Irish breakfast, it was a buffet style that could have really done with a few more options. In the breakfast room its self the tables and chairs are all very close to other guests tables the waiters brought us a rack of toast which wasnt particularly warm and it was overcooked, they also offer you a choice of warm drinks- the choice was either tea or coffee- no variety or hot chocolate which is a main hot beverage I feel they should have offered, it is a buffet style breakfast, and for the cooked breakfast there was only 5 products on offer- Sausages, Scrambled eggs, Bacon, Mushrooms, Beans, which when I went in the were running short on. They had continental foods, but the variety there too was lacking. After this I never used the dining facilities they had on offer, because I really did not find this to be fantastic. There was a bar area too, that seemed reasonably priced for lightbites- I did not have anything, but I did have a drink ;)
The gym was free to use, which has a wide variety of cardio equipment and weights, and they also offered classes which guests staying at the hotel could attend for a small cost for about 6euro. I found the gym to be the most useful facility for myself, they also had a small pool- 17m in length, which was visable from the gym, which was quiet so very nice for being able to swim and relax. The steam room worked fine but was very small, and the sauna was completely broken for the majority of my stay and I never had the opportunity to use it. Their are tennis courts around the back- I am not sure on the costs, but I should imagine less than 10euro, the area around the back wasn't too nice to look at it needed a bit of tidying up. They have a wide range of golfing activities on offer starting from just a few euro each.
I was a bit disapointed with the spa, although I never had any treatments I found it again to be overpriced, because it is in a hotel I am not expecting things to be super cheap, and value that people pamper and treat themselves on holiday but just to get gel nails done it was advertised at a cost of 54euro when I was there, this is a simple nail treatment that I could get done at a salon with a very good reputation for about 25euro back home.
Although my stay there was pleasant there were quite a few things that could have been improved on which are all easy enoughto do, such as a few more breakfast options, such as croissants, more cereals, better fruits, jams, more cooked food, juices, all cheap and easy to do, fix the wifi- its a job that would have taken no more than 15 minutes to do. tidy up around the back, even though there is not much happening around there its not pretty compaired to the rest of it. Speed up the slow computer, get someone in to fix the sauna, do some market research into spa pricing etc etc. If they fixed those issues I should imagine it would be somewhere where I would return if I was in the area again, but until then I have no desire too.
Room prices are from 45euro for a single without breakfast. They also offer spa and golf packages.
Vaseline is a product that is easily available at a low cost for about £1-2 for 20g from most supermarkets and chemists and online.
The main ingredient of vaseline is petroleum jelly, so it is an oily product, being based on an oil. There is no scent to the original vaseline, so it is quite a unisex products great for all ages.
It comes in a stylish small tin which is great for taking with you, slipping in your pocket or bag when you are out, or for use at home. To apply you just need to use your finger and apply a small amount to you lips, which will give them a slight glossy effect if you used too much, but if you just use a little it is more of a matte effect. Which gives your lips instant moisture.
Although this product is marketed as a lip product I am sure that the formula is the same as the regular tubs of vaseline, so if I get dry skin I often use some of this and it works, so I find it to be a good multi purpose tool.
Although this is not the most luxurious product it certainly does work, and in the winter when your lips can lack moisture this works really well and fast.
I first got this Rimmel fake tan a few years ago and was quite impressed, I am not a person who is wanting to look the most tannest out of all my friends, but just someone who want to add a little bit of colour on a night out, and this does hit the spot. I also have sensitive skin and found that this did not irritate my skin one bit.
It is in a liquid for apposed to a spray or mousse, and is wash off too which I like, meaning you can affoid looking patchy very easily. Although it is wash off it is not going to wash off with any little drop of water you come into contact with, so that is great :)
It is easy to apply after exfoliating(this is a good step to take to ensure that your tan does not appear to be patchy-not a good look ;) ), I use a tanning mitt, but people do use other tools such as rubber gloves, or a dry flannel, on application you need to rub it in well on to the are you want it on, I found that it does dry quickly so you don't want to faff around when applying.
You do not need to use alot to start building up colour I would say that it is best to avoid using too much at once because it can become streaky, but building up a few small layers will give you a very nice natural colour, which is not the dreaded orange colour.
I did not find there to be much of a scent with this product it is quite a neutral scent that has non of that classic fake tan smell to it.
The price is really affordable at around £5-7 for 125ml, I usually buy it from boots, but you can purchase it from online and other chemisty shops, and depending on how often you use it and the colour you are after, I would say it lasts around 15-25 applications
I have not brought a foundation for ages and did not really know which one to go for when I ended up with Healthy Mix by Bourjois which claims to last up to 16hrs giving you a "perfectly glowing complextion and toned skin" which I thought would be great for the warmer months, It contains various fruit extracts such as apricot for radience, melon for hydration, apple for antioxidants and ginger for energy.
It retails for about£10 for a 30ml bottle but you can get deals on this product such as 3 for 2 which they often have in superdrug and boots, The foundation comes in about 8 different shades to cater for a variety of skin tones, I got 54 which is in the middle.
To apply you just need about 1 pump for your face/ neck which is super easy to apply with a brush or fingers the liquid consistancy itself is great because it is not too runny and it also is not thick, so that makes it easy to blend in. The coverage is about medium which i like because it is not too heavy and looks more natural yet covers up imperfections well, but if you are somebody who does like a more heavy coverage then this may not be the best product out their foryou.
The first time I wore this I got loads of compliments about my skin which is great, I would say this just makes your skin look likghter and brighter and more fresh faced for summer.
I would reccommend and buy this again. I also think this is a great product for holidays because it is in a plastic bottle meaning breaking is not an issue and the 30mls size is a handy travel size too :))
I brought this earlier in the year because my hands are super dry, I suffer from eczema and the job I have began it really is not suitable for me to have hands that are dry and horrible. I have tried alot of handcreams out there and this one is currently my facourite at £9 for 100mls it is a little expensive, but it is from the body shop so it is in line.
It is for all skin types and especially for hands that have been over exposed, and classes itself as a treatment, the cream itself is quiet thick, and does not leave your hands all greasy and oily, it absorbs into the skin well, showing results within hours.
I have been using this for about 4 months now and I have noticed an improvement in the condition of my skin, also because it contains almonds which are proteins they are also good for the skins nutrition so I think that may help.
There is a subtle almond scent to it, one that I quite like, that is not too over powering and leavesyour hands smelling fresh. The product is also not tested on animals.
Unfortunatly the product does contain parabens which have a debatable link to the risk of cancer, again this is debatable, but from the body shop I personally would have liked to have seen them absent in their products.
Like I said above the product is expensive at £9 but the Body Shop often have deals on, I recently stocked up and got 3 for about £12.
I got this just over a year ago it was about £12 I believe I got a discount from argos, to use for my room.
Whilst I thought it would be a really great idea I found that it didn't really chill my drinks as cold as a regular fridge would, which was a bit disapointing, but they certainly were not a warm room temperature so it did have somebenefit. The inside capacity is also quite small but I knew that so that was not a problem, you can fit the essentials in there.
It makes kind of a whirring faint noise which is a bit of a dilema when youre tired, in the end I stopped using this for my room and now I use it for going away camping, it fits in the basics and the noise does not concern me there. It is still working today which is good and for the price you really cannot go wrong.
I think you just need to have a sensible idea for what purpose this will serve because it is great for students and going away but in a bedroom maybe not.
There is a small shelf inside as well as a few different settings for temperature.
I brought this phone in september 2009 for £69.99 from Virgin Mobiles, The phone is quiet light and the dimensions are approximately 11cm Height, 5 width and 1.5 depth. so not too big. with a 2mp camera.
Whilst I loved the idea and novelty of having the qwerty keyboard, the rest of the phone disapointed me. One of the first things I wanted to try out when I got it was the touch screen feature, after much trying I discovered the only real touch screen thing you could do was enter your pin or dial a number, but you still needed to press an acual button to ring that number.
Games were lacking, the camera had no flash, I felt like I have been going around in circles. Every time the phone runs out of battery it resets its self, and if the slideing feature is shut too fast it will often turn out so now I need to be super slow when doing that. It is described as a messager phone but the internet is super slow, so that is a bit bizare to have that description.
The best thing about this is the keyboard, I love that not many phones have it. and it was easy to use especially for texting, the only thing is if you are not a great speller you do not have the predictive text option to fall back on. Also the batery does last a good few days, so you don't need to consider the charger on a short break away.
Although the phone was cheap I would have opted for something different now, it just does not have the technology it needs to back up the features it pocesses.
I purchased my last GHD straightener from a local salon for about £110 just over a year ago after my previous GHD's stopped working(these were 4 years old and worked greatly throughout, being used daily by the whole family). I have always used GHD's tried a cheaper brand that were £50 but they were no were near as good as these. The reason I always use these are because despite being expensive they do the job, they leave my hair straight and they pull through smoothly.
The GHD is a great styler that can be used on all hair types, you can also use GHD's on shorter hair too(you will need the thinner iron though), typically you think of the straighteners being able to just straighten hair, but these can curl or add big bouncing waves to you hair for a more sophisticated look, so it is several products in one, To achieve the curls you just need to turn the straighteners as you pull it through your hair :) I reccommend just using the straighteners on dry hair only, electric and water do not make a great pair !
GHD also does many products to aid your styling, like heat protectant spray an important item when applying heat to your hair, as well as starch sprays to make your hair stay in the style you choose.
They also come out in limited edition sets which often come in a colour or pattern and with styling products and case for not much more. You can often find deals like this in a hair salons, or online. I would be wary of fakes though that often make their way onto auction sites.
On the styler there is only one heat setting, so you have no option, and a small LED light flashes when you the temperature is at its hottest. A safety feature of the GHD is that is automatically turns off after being inactive for a period of time. With all heat styling hair damage is also a problem so it is a good idea to use protectants and limit your usage :)
This blend is really simple, you just plug the pincess into the wall, add fruits/ vegetables/ any items you really want into the jug, and turn it on at the speed you want, so it is super easy to use!
I bought this because I was attracted to the price £25 is a good price, I have now had it a while and it does get used reguarly by not just me but my parents and siblings too! I just use it to make smoothies/milkshakes and if that is what you were hoping to use the products for then it really does do a great job! Just make sure you chop up the fruit small enough and do not jam pack the jar because it has a bit of difficulty. There are 3 different speed setting which is a good feature because I am impatient so I always put it on the quickest setting. Just make sure you do not open the lid when the blender is in action, because it does make an aweful lot of mess haha!
All of the equipment can also be be washed in the machine which is great! Before this I used to try and was the parts in the sink which is a bit complicated so I am glad my mum is more assertive than me!
The jar is also glass which makes it a more steardy feature, the parts when reasembling can be a little fiddly but not too bad, overall a good product though that lasts.
I love this perfume, it is one of my most used, although I have tried all of the other varieties of this perfume I always come back to the green one and always have one of these laying around! I have used it for years now and it is most certainly a firm favourite of mine, I always get it when I see a deal and it can work out quiet cheap! it is not even very expensive when it is not on a deal, but being a student the cheaper the better!
Whenever I wear it I always get asked who/ what it is, I think it has a lovely fresh smell to it, perfect for summer, somepeople say it smells like apples I would disagree. The smell is not too strong and it is not weak either it also lasts throughout the day which is great because I hate it when you have to keep reapplying!
I love this it makes me look like I have something there! A negative with this is sometimes the cup outline can be quite obvious on somepeople I have heard but I think that is more of the fact that you need to get the right size. They are really no more expensive than other bras so I think they are quite a good deal reallly, but with confidence added. I really do not have much on my chest at all, and I think a bit of a boost gives you a bit more confidence especially when your an 'adult' and you have a childs body ha ha. I would buy another one but I need more money! I reccomend these to everyone that listens in real life and everyone that I have converted loves them too. There are similar on the market ie primark but they are not as good in my opinion.
As you can see this is an awefully expensive product so its easy to go for a cheaper product but Moroccan oil absorbs into the hair making it in a lot better condition where other products don't do that to hair they literally just mask the problem meaning you will need to buy more and more problems to make you hair good, so moroccan oil expensive-yes but all your money just needs investing in one product. It helps with split ends, and because it is oil based I find that it does last a really long time, so it is a good investment and saves me having to have salon treatments, this is also recommended by loads of salons and professionsals so i do believe it has something in it to make it so good! Negative: do not apply to your roots, it will not look good and it needs to be applied to the lengths.
This is a nail paint effect from Barry M, where it acts as a nail polish giving your nails a crackled effect, it can be used alone or over the top of another colour to give it a more desirable fun effect :D
I brought mine for £3.99ish from a boots store, they are also available at other chemisty stores like superdrug and also some supermarkets I believe from the Barry M range, so they are super cheap and easy to pick up, Other brands such as OPI have a similar nail polish which costs about 3x the amount for pretty much the same thing :/ so this is really a good deal.
I like to apply mine over lighter colours because it makes the black crackle effect stand out more, opposed to applying it to a darker colour such as navy, i think pastel colours work well with it. Loads of people I know have this, also it dries really quick so if your nails are not looking great you can just put a quick stroke of this on and it will look great.
The only downside is that the pattern that it leaves on your nails isn't the same on each nail which is obvious and uncontrollable, but sometimes you will get a really awesome looking nail and then next to it you will get a nail that looks like it has an oil spill on it, but that is just how it goes really.
Barry M now also have different crackle effect colours in pink, silver and white, which I assume will look great in the summer!
I have had this for a while and love it, whilst it is expensive and you don't really get much product it does last meaning your money you spend is stretched. I find it is best when you do kind of a semi circle under your eye and dab it with a clean finger to blend rather than using a brush. You need to get the right colour as well for your complextion to make your skin look great. I would reccomend this to anyone and everyone. It makes your skin look radient and more dewy giving it a great summer dewy colour. Like I already said it does last for ages I have had mine for about 9months I dont use it everyday but on nights out it adds something, You will get complimented on it loads, I just think this is one of the best Yves Saint Laurent products out there :)
