I have just returned from a day trip to West midland safari park and I can honestly say that it was one of the best days out I have had in the UK by far.
I have 2 weeks off work and thought I would look at places to visit to de stress myself and just have a good old fun day out, and this was just the right place!
When we arrived there was a short queue to the entrance where you pay, took around 5 mins, the prices seem a little on the expensive side, £11.50 per adult, £10.50 per child/concession and under 3s are free but when you consider you can visit the park again this season for free its well worth the money.
We went around the safari adventure first, which takes you around a variety of animals, such as lions, tigers, giraffes, wolves, rhinos, elephants, camels, zebras, deers, the only thing I felt that was missing was monkeys, when I have been to other safari parks the monkeys have always been such an highlight, however there is so many different other animal you soon forget that there were no monkeys. The safari part was quite busy but there were 2 lanes available, one for cars to stop and take photos and admire the animals and the other to keep going if you wish, the safari takes an average of 1 hour and 30 mins, and you can go around as many times as you like. You can buy food to feed to animals like the camels, but I wasn't that brave.
We took a picnic with us so we didn't by any food there, but I did notice there were lots of small cafes offering a variety of foods, many being the usual fast food items such as burgers, pizza, chicken nuggets, chips, you get the picture!
After the safari we parked the car and walked into the rest of the park, where we found a cave with many sea creatures in, a reptile house, sea lions, creepy crawlies and a cave with free flying bats, believe me I have never ran so quick in my life when I suddenly felt a little flutter past my ear, I screamed all the way out, it was amusing to my other half if no one else.
There was a fairground which you needed to buy a wristband for, many rides, plenty to keep children entertained.
There were always plenty of safari staff around to help you if needed and the park was really clean and easy accessible for wheelchairs/pushchairs
I really like the food that Frankie and Bennies has to offer, they have a great selection of pasta dishes, pizzas, lovely puddings too, the only problem I have found is that it really does depend when you visit, I have been there many times as it is only a 10 minute walk from my house and each time you do not know what to expect!
Sometimes the food served is brilliant, it is hot, presentable and tastes lovely, however, the next time you visit you find it hard to believe its the same restaurant, the service can take ages, the food is barley warm, I think partly due to it being so busy, that your meal is left waiting in the serving area for too long, and the last pizza I ordered was burnt!
I think the best time to go is a week night as weekends are very very busy and in my opinion this is when the quality of food and service slips a little.
They do a really nice lunch menu which is really reasonable in price, the main menu in the evening though can be slightly expensive.
Frankie and Bennies is a option for a birthday party, they seem to make an effort in that area, they are very good at letting everyone in the restaurant know who's birthday it is, they sing it loud enough and bring out a small cake which is nice!
The background music can give you a bit of a headache, especially if you've been there a couple of times already, the music never changes, always the same.
The restaurant is always clean and tidy, they normally have most things on the menu, they serve nice cocktails, but again these can be expensive.
I have had my Peugeot 206cc for 18 months. This is the best car ever, even my dad likes it and he is a mechanic and very fussy over the cars I buy.
The car is very cheap to run, it runs really well on petrol, and surprisingly is very low on my insurance considering its a convertible. I have not had a single problem with it so far, it has been very reliable and cost efficient.
The inside is very similar to other peugeots when it comes to the dash/doors etc, but the back is very small, it has 2 seats, big enough to squeeze 2 average sized people in, when the roof is down the boot space is fairly small, but when the roof is up it is a decent size space, enough room for shopping! What more can a girl want :)
The roof folds away quickly and with ease and there have never been any issues with this.
I do feel that this is a girly car, when I asked my other half if I could use his car for the day so I could pick my Gran up and fit her wheel chair in the boot, he asked me how was he supposed to get to work, when I told him to take my car he said "absolutely no way, that is a girls car, everyone will laugh at me at work" Personally myself I don't see it being an issue, I suppose its down to your own personal choice.
This car is a nice little sporty car, ideal for summer days and reliable through thoses cold winter days, a good all rounder, highly recommended.
Marley and Me is a film for all the family, this is a hearty film, with laughter, sadness and very realistic events. It is a must for all dog lovers, you will definatley be able to relate to the antics of adorable Marley, even if you don't own a dog its still worth watching.
The story goes along the lines of,
A couple buy a small puppy, the film then takes you along the life of this puppy/dog, highlighting areas that you can relate to yourself. If you do own a dog it will make you love him a liitle more at the end, as it is quite a sad ending.
Owen Wilson is great in this film, but then he is in all films, you do see a softer side to him in this, still funny but with a different take on life. Jennifer Aniston is ok, but i've seen her in better films, she is better in bruce almighty/along came polly.
Marley and me is a good all rounder, can be a little slow in places, but the film on a whole makes up for this. I really enjoyed this film and Im sure mums/dads/grannies/children/dog owners will to.
Drag me to hell is directed by Sam Raimi, who is also the director of evil dead.
If you are a fan of Evil Dead then this is a must for you, very similiar in respect to the horror/comedy side.
Did I think it was the horror of 2009? No!
I was quite disappointed, hearing the reviews on this film I thought it was going to be really scary, like hide your face behind a pillow scary, but it wasn't that bad, i've seen worse.
In a nutshell the the story goes along the lines of,
" a young girl who works in a bank denies an old gypsy lady a loan, the gypsy places a curse on the young girl and alot of not so nice things start to happen to her, she tries to get the curse reversed with gory consiquences, I will leave the rest to your imagination"...........
This film is not the best I've seen this year, but its got to be worth watching!
We were looking for a small dog, as we only have a small 2 bedroomed house. We liked the shih tzu but as my dad has a bichon fraise we liked the characteristics that she had, after lots of research we found a cross between the two, alot of people advised us against a cross breed due to illness etc, but we went to a proper breeder and bought a male puppy. He is a very strong and healthy little dog, who got a good medical report from the vet. I think that with cross breeds you get a good mix of both dogs and they develop their own little characteristics. The only problem with this being that when my puppy was and still is training you don't know which breed to train him by. With a cross breed you can not be registered with the kennel club but if its the dog you love who's bothered about that, as long as you do your research first and find a good breeder all should be well, in my experience it has been.
We were members of this bank for a number of years, but we decided to close our accounts due to the bank being just too busy, and it taking anywhere up to one hour to queue to speak to a person behind the cashiers desk, we were there every saturday, and with this being our only day off work we normally had lots of things to do on this day, so we didn't always have time to queue for this length of time. With only one bank in the Leicester area, we had no option but to use this one. There were only ever 2/3 cashiers on at one time and probably another 3/4 floating around the back tidying up papers. The calls centre's were also not based in the united kingdom, and they were not 24 hour call centre's either. On a positive though the staff were always helpful!
I love this program, I watch it every week. Cesar Millan is great, he has a real positive energy and presents himself as a pack leader to all dogs regardless of their size, nature or how they present themselves. I have tried many of his tactics on my own little shih tzu puppy, none of them are as effective as we see on TV, guess it takes a while to master the technique. He is very good at teaching dog owners to become the pack leader, as on most occasions if not all its the dogs who are running the show, he shows you how to take control when walking, how to stop dogs being fussy eaters, dog socialisation etc, its not just for young dogs either, he rehabilitates older dogs too. This program is amazing to watch, its a must if you own a dog little devil of a dog like me!
I first smelt flower bomb when my best friend got married last year, she bought it to wear on her wedding day, after smelling the lovely scent I was at the shops the following week to buy some, I was shocked to find it was £53.00, however I really really liked it, so after talking myself into I purchased it and I can honestly say it is the best perfume I have and believe me I have many! You would think it smelt like flowers, but it actually doesn't, it smells like sweets, imagine a very sweet, fruity smell. The fragrance last so long on you, most people comment when i'm wearing it, my mum has since purchased some as has a friend at work. You don't need to put a lot on as it has a strong smell which doesn't give you a head ache unlike other perfumes I have. You can only purchase this at selected retailers, these being debenhams and rackhams and the one I purchased is the smallest bottle they sell. I will definatley get some more when this one has gone but up to now its lasting really well.
I purchased a wii fit for the new year, I wanted to keep fit and exercise without having to go far or pay expensive gym memberships, however I tend to use it on more of a fun basis rather than to do exercises, I enjoy playing against my partner, seeing who can get the best scores or the longest distances, together we can spend hours doing different sessions such as hula hoop or ski jump, we also like to see who has lost the most weight, who's BMI has dropped the most etc. It does state that you can weigh your pet/baby by holding them and then weighing yourself but this has never worked when I've tried it. All games are really good, I feel that it is a generally all round good buy for all the family and I suppose having lots of fun with it also keeps me fit.
