November 2009:

Hysterical Doo Yoo Campaign of the Month

Reading reviews and returning rates is getting more and more difficult and time-consuming the busier and more successful this site gets, so I have started to be a bit more selective about what I read. I, like a few others, take the view that no one who goes to a supermarket for their weekly shop actually takes the time to read reviews on bog-standard supermarket food.

I mean, seriously, when was the last time you thought "I'd better read a review of Diet Coke before I go waste a quid on a bottle..." You're more likely to buy it and try it for yourself than read about it first. As such, I myself have decided to stop writing reviews on run of the mill food products and I will stop reading such food reviews as well. That said, I like to return a rate, so if that's all you write about, I will still rate you back.

Another member has pointed out that fully 25% of the reviews on this site relate to food and drink products. I figure that cutting them out will save a quarter of my time on here. No offence to anyone, that's just what I, personally, have decided to do to save myself some precious time.

Thanks for reading.

If you're minded to return rates and have already read my recent stuff, feel free to have a mooch through my older reviews!

A BIT ABOUT ME
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am happily married with a precocious pre-school daughter and a baby son. I live in Greater London and work as a lawyer in the IT industry, although I am currently on a career break to spend time with my young family.
I love writing and will review anything I take a fancy to. I have a particular passion for history, geography and books - and love to travel, although having a young family has limited our expeditions to almost annual beach holidays in Cyprus.
My family and I regularly attend church, where my wife runs the Sunday school. I am also a diabetic thirty-something (closer to 40 than I care to admit) but never let age or my condition define who I am. That said, many of my views and opinions will derive from my social, ethnic and professional background and circumstances, but ultimately, it's what makes me - and each of us - unique. That's why everyone's opinion is so valuable.
My user name is a play on my ethnic background. I'm of Armenian extraction, but I was born in England and spent thirteen years in New York. As Armenians we call ourselves "Hye" (hence - His-Hye-Ness) and we are a hospitable people who love family, friends, food and having a good time. In that, we share a lot in common with other mediterranean and Middle Eastern cultures like the Greeks, Cypriots and Lebanese.
HOW I READ, RATE & NOMINATE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I read all kinds of reviews, but won't necessarily advertise that I have nominated you. In contrast, if I rate you down, I will usually leave a comment, and will do my best to be as constructive and positive as possible in my criticism.

I will always read reviews from new members, but I will NOT rate work from reviewers (new or established) unless they have expended a reasonable amount of time and effort to rate fellow posters.

There is simply not enough time in the day to read everything, so the least I can do is give what precious time I have to those who believe that GIVING is just as important as RECEIVING. This is a community after all, and whether its an on-line or real world one, it only works if you respect and acknowledge others, treat them with courtesy and keep an open mind.

I do not revenge rate, instead >>> I vote with my feet <<<. That goes for revenge raters who abuse other members of this site as well. I rate honestly and in accordance with my own personal views, so if you take exception to how I have rated your review, and I have not already explained why in comments, I would be happy to elaborate if you drop me a line. Constructive criticism allows each of us to develop and grow, but conversely, I will not tolerate, or respond to abuse. Life's too short.

I stick to one fundamental principle, which has served me well in most areas of my life - I treat others as I would want to be treated myself.
