      Amazing

For Dj's these days there are many quality mixers available on the market. These can range from 2 channel mixers to 6 channel, and even extra mic channels to bridge the gap between a DJ mixer and a small live mixer.

The Pioneer DJM series has been a very popular Dj mixer series for many years and the DJM 600 is a 4 channel version with built in effects unit.

The DJM 600 has been one of the industry standard mixers in previous years although it has now been replaced by newer models such as the DJM 800. Since this mixer has been used in so many top clubs in the world, you know that it's a quality product that can be trusted.

The four channels are great as it means you can have 2 turntables and 2 Cdj's attached at the same time. Adding in extra inputs is easy and switching between a phono or line input on each channel is as easy as flicking a switch.

Each channel gives you great control of low mid and high eq as well as individual gain knobs. Each channel has a Cue button so that you can listen, and see the levels on the led indicators, to just that channel with headphones.

The effects on this mixer are great and range from reverb and filters to delays and flangers. Effects can be routed to a single channel or over the master output but a simple rotary knob. To put an effect on there is a large LED lit button that flashes when pressed to let you see that the effect is on. The level of the effect is adjusted by another rotary knob.

The crossfader on this mixer is good as you can assign which channels can be each side of the fader and you can also adjust the fader curve. This fader feels good and can be used well for scratching and precise fading.

This mixer sounds great and is built really well so will last the test of time. I would recommend this mixer to anyone who wants a good Dj mixer.

Although there are more updated versions of this mixer, this mixer is great and since newer models are out there you can probably get a good bargain on a second hand DJM 600.

      5 stars from me!

      great decks

I've always been interested in music and have played guitar since I started high school. However, even before this I've been interested in mixing music and Dj-ing.

Although there are lots of alternatives to the classic vinyl set-up for dj's these days, such as CD players to replicate the vinyl feel and USB controllers for software. Although these are great, the classic feel of vinyl is unmatched, and nothing comes close to the quality of a pair of Technics SL-1210's.

These are the industry standard turntables for DJ's across the world, although there are more upgraded versions of this, the 1210Mk2, such as the MK5 etc. but essentially they are the same deck with a few tweeks. The fact that they are used in most of the biggest clubs and venues across the world you can see that they must be a quality and trusted deck to use.

These decks are direct drive, opposed to belt drive, which is better as there is less to go wrong (i.e the belt breaking) which means the 1210's are really reliable. This also allows the plate to start and stop quickly which is ideal for fast paced mixing.

The pitch control on these decks is great. Set at 0, a LED lights up so you can easily see that the deck is playing normally. The fader is really good and you can make such subtle but important changes to the deck that allows you to beat match perfectly.

The phono and earth cables, that are attached to the back, are of high quality. Not like some decks I have seen where they look really cheap. Good quality cables ensure that the audio signal is kept at a high quality all the way through a system so that the best quality sound can be achieved.

The colour of the 1210 deck is black, which is pretty standard. However I have seen limited edition ones in white and other colours and I think they look fantastic! I think technics should offer a variety of colours on their standard decks as it gives people a bit of choice and individuality.

Buying these decks new will set you back a bit of cash! Although I do think that technics have stopped producing these quality decks. I have no idea why!
Second hand a pair of these can cost from £400 upwards. Quite a lot of money for second hand turntables but you can trust the quality of the brand and since these decks are so durable they will probably works just as well as when they were new!

This is definitely a 5 star product!

I have worn Converse shoes of various designs for years now. The Converse brand is very well known in the UK and although their shoes are probably not considered as high fashion any more, I think they are a standard look that will stand the test of time.

As the name, hi top, suggests these shoes come up higher on the leg than a normal trainer. Where normal trainers stop below the ankle, these shoes come above it. This gives a unique look to this type of shoe. I feel that the extra support over the ankle also makes these shows really comfortable to wear for long periods of time. I can be on my feet all day in these and they are still comfortable. Saying this though, I do feel you have to "wear them in". However once you have wore them for a while, you will not want to wear any other shoes as your feet feel so at home!

The shoes themselves are the same as any of the converse range. They have a rubber toe and sole and thick rubber sidewall before meeting the main canvas of the shoe. With visible stitching, on my pair, these shoes look really good and you can see that they are well made. You can get these shoes in so many colour and pattern choices that even though they are a popular shoe you can still make yourself stand out from the crowd by going for an obscure colour or pattern.

A downside with canvas shoes such as these is that they really provide no protection from water. So if you're out and about in heavy rain or accidently stand in a big puddle, then prepare to get wet feet!

These shoes last quite a while, I've had a few pairs over the years but usually have worn them constantly for ages before they've started to look shabby.

These shoes are priced at between £35 and £45 in most shoe shops I have seen. If you shop around you could get a good deal but with so many different colour combinations on offer, most shops only stock a few so it depends what ones you prefer.

In conclusion these shoes are well worth 5 stars and I would recommend them to anyone.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Average hard drive

When I noticed my external hard drive was nearly at full capacity I decided to start looking for another one. My previous Hard drive was 500GB which is plenty to back up my files if set as just a straight system back-up however I also store my videos, including a lot of films, and my music on external hard drives so that my laptops hard drive isn't clogged up with loads of files that I don't always use. I also do this so I can easily take my files and use them on other peoples computers so I don't need to take my laptop to someone's house If say we want to watch a film that I only have a digital copy of.

Since I needed the extra space I went for this, the Seagate Expansion Portable Drive 1TB. I knew that Seagate was a reliable brand as I know people who use their products and they always seem to get good reviews. The fact that the word portable was in the name was great as portable was exactly what I was looking for, nothing too bulky. The 1TB capacity was also exactly what I wanted, plenty of space for all my files and a complete back-up of my laptop.

One of the other main features that I wanted, that this Hard Drive has, was for it to be USB bus powered. Meaning that no extra power supply is needed to run the hard drive. This is great as I hate having loads of cables getting tangled up when things are moved around so having one USB for both power and connecting the hard drive to the computer is great.

The portable side of this hard drive is one of its flaws. Not surprisingly my 500GB hard drive is smaller, and therefore more portable, but since purchasing this I have come across much smaller hard drives. Don't get me wrong, this is still very much a portable hard drive, and can be transported very easily however as technology is developed items with the same specifications can be made smaller and smaller so maybe look into other options if size is an issue.

Another thing that could be seen as a flaw in portability is that the enclosure doesn't seem to be very rugged. It is made of two pieces of plastic that seem to creak when the slightest pressure is applied, even picking it up seems to put strain on it, so I don't think it would last very long if it was constantly being thrown in the bottom of a bag and taken places.

I do like the design of this hard drive. The top is covered in a shiny plastic and it slopes down at the front so it isn't just the same old boring box that most are. It actually looks good sitting on my desk. The Seagate logo is printed in white on the left of the front; this is the only identifying mark that can be seen without looking on the underside of the enclosure. I think this looks good and very sleek.

A single green LED is present on the top of this hard drive, glowing when connected and flickering when files are accessed or transferred. This is much like any other hard drives and works just as it should, although I don't really pay attention to it.

So I suppose I should take about actually using this hard drive. As I said before it works off of a single USB (2.0) cable and once connected my computer automatically installed the drivers without any problems. It is easy to transfer files to the drive, from windows just go into my computer and it should be there showing the free space and space used. I pretty much just use it like an extension to my computer so have different folders for "my music" and "my videos" etc. I won't bore people with transfer speeds as tech specs will be listed elsewhere but files transfer at a reasonable rate, I wouldn't say it's ultra-fast but that doesn't bother me.

The main concern I have with this drive is this: Sometimes my computer doesn't find it. By this I mean it's connected to my laptop, the LED on the drive is on and so getting power, however the hard drive doesn't show up on my computer. I have tried using different cables and the same thing happens. It is really frustrating as a few times I've been worried I've lost a lot of files that I only keep externally! This problem is usually resolved by uplugging and replugging the USB a few times and then the computer finds it.

All in all this drive does its job, good capacity and is portable. However it doesn't do its job as well as I'd hope. Teamed up with the problems with connectivity I'd have to give this product 3 stars.

        Advantages

        • Reliability

        Disadvantages

        Better than Beats.

I've been through quite a few pairs of earphones over the years. Normally I go for reasonably cheap earphones as with constant use they tended not to last long no matter what brand I bought. Last Christmas I asked my parents for a new pair of earphones as my last pair were falling apart. I was very surprised when I opened these Shure se215's as they are way more high quality than any others I have ever had.

The Shure SE215 earphones are IEM's. This means they are in ear monitors so the sound is delivered right into your ear with no loss of sound. As they go into your ear there are different sizes of ear buds included with these earphones. Not only do you get three sizes of rubber ear buds like most other brands, but you also get three sizes of foam buds. These are the same type of foam as disposable ear plugs, so you squeeze the foam, put them in your ear and the foam expands to fill the ear canal and fit snugly in place. I like the fact that you have the option of the rubber or the foam as well as the size choices, I myself use the rubber ones as I find them easier than the foam.

These earphones come in two colours, black or clear. I have the clear ones and they are really cool. You can see all the parts inside which I really like. From what I can see the black colour also has semi-transparent casing and also look pretty good.

The wire length is 162cm according to the Shure website. All I can really say about the length of the wire is it's great. I normally just keep my ipod in my pocket and I usually have a couple of small coils still in my pocket with the earphones in my ears. I like this as it is comfortable when walking as there's plenty of wire to allow movement. There's also not too much wire that you're always overwhelmed with a spaghetti bundle of wire.

The wire is heavy duty. Probably the most quality wire I've ever had or seen on a set of earphones. They coil very easily and don't tangle. Tangled earphones are one of my pet hates in life and these barely ever tangle what so ever.

The actual earphones are detachable from the wire with the Shure se215's. This is a great feature as most problems I've ever had with headphones is the wire becomes loose around the jack and breaks. If this does happen with these headphones I'll only need to replace the wire and not the whole earphones. With this feature Shure have also got new wires available that will convert your earphones into a hands free kit compatible with your Iphone. This is great as apple earphones are terrible quality so this would be a great replacement product.

At first glance these in ears look different to normal ones. This is because the wire hooks over the top of your ear and then the ear phone goes into the ear. The wire that hooks over the ear has a small bit of bendy metal (or something metal like) and is thicker plastic than the rest of the wire. This allows it to be moulded to a nice hook to go over your ear. It took me a while to get used to this design but after a while I began to get really used to it. They fit really snug and don't fall out easily. There is one annoying thing about this though. I tend to wear these hanging from my top when I'm not listening to anything; the problem with this is with the nice little hook that you bend into the wire you tend to get caught on things. Can be very frustrating when you don't notice and try to move away then realise you can't because you're attached.

I realise up till now I realise I've said nothing about the actual sound quality of these earphones. Well with the snug fit these earphones are great sound isolators. At times I actually find this quite frustrating because they're so good I end up in a wee world of my own and ignore people or walk in front of busses. Not that I've ever been hit by a bus but it is a real concern! Shure claim that they isolate 90% of background noise. I think this is pretty accurate as I find it hard to hear anything with them in.
Shure also say that these earphones have a single dynamic micro driver. I'm not sure what other types of drivers are available for earphones, but these are great! I find the sound really crisp and detailed throughout the range. So much so that I actually use these from time to time when I'm sound engineering, something that I could never do with other earphones I've had.

The 3.5mm mini jack is high quality and the connection to the wire is encased in thick rubber. The jack is right angled which is good as it doesn't get caught on things easily as it's not sticking out. I can't see there being much going wrong with this jack as it seems well constructed and the rugged rubber will keep the connection safe from damage.

So now we come to price. I've found them online selling from between £70 and £100. This is far more expensive than I would usually spend on a product like this. However, these are the most quality earphones I have ever owned and I can see them lasting me a long time, especially since the wire is replaceable. I would also say that for £70 these are great value when you look at the price of some ear phones like "beats by Dr. Dre". The fact that people pay well over £100 for these just because they have a famous rappers name on them is just wrong. I've listened to them and don't see anything good about them what so ever. Rant aside, I think the Shure in ears are far better quality and therefore defiantly worth the money.

Shure make a range of in ear monitors and these are the entry level product in the range. Hard to believe as they are so great. I'm not sure I would pay more for the better quality ones as these are all the quality I think I can deal with!

When watching TV I have noticed various people wearing Shure in ears. From news reporters to sports commenters you can see people wearing them. Since these are the "entry level" in the Shure range then TV stars are probably using the higher level product, but the fact that Shure products are used in a professional scenario also shows that they must be a professional quality product.
I almost forgot that as a small added extra, the Shure se215's come with a small Shure carry case. This is great for taking them on holiday and such but since I use them near enough every day I don't bother using this case.

I would give this product 6 stars if I could, but since I can't I suppose 5 stars will do.

          Get them

I have been going to music festivals for about four years now, and as any festival goer will tell you, a good pair of wellies are a must!

I got my black Dunlop wellies two years ago and have worn them on at least five occasions at different festivals in both extreme mud/water, like T in the Park this year, and hard ground. I think it's fair to say I've properly worn in these boots!

These boots come in black and green, I have the black pair and my dad the green pair. They may have different colours on the market but I am not sure. My boots are all black with the Dunlop logo printed in white at the top, facing outwards. There's really not much to say on the style of these boots, as they are just your standard wellie. No thrills and nothing fancy.

I find these boots are quite comfortable when worn with appropriate socks. I wear ski socks as they are the biggest ones I have, but wellie socks or hiking socks are much the same anyway. I find a full days wear with these is fine, but then wearing them again straight after can start to give you sore feet.
They function very well as wellies. Wearing them in the mud of T in the park, sometimes almost as deep as the wellies themselves, my feet stayed completely dry. Couldn't really ask for much more out of a pair of wellies.

Price wise these are definitely a winner. You can get a pair for around £10 and they've already lasted me a couple of years. Bargain. I'd say this price is extremely good especially considering the price I've heard people paying for brands like "hunter" or even just rubbish wellies that have a pretty pattern on them. Who cares what they look like when you're in 6 inches of mud!
All in all I don't think there is really anything else I can say about this product. They keep your feet dry and are comfortable for long enough, but after a full weekends wear you'll be happy to be wearing normal shoes again.

          4 stars for these wellies!

As the name suggests, these shoes are not your standard trainer. As most (or all other) styles of trainers only have the one tongue, these shoes have two. There is no useful application for having two tongues on a pair of shoes, but it does make them stand out style wise and I think they actually look really cool.

The second tongue can be left up, lying directly over the normal tongue, or can be folded down over the laces revealing a different colour. There are loads of different colour combinations and pattern styles to choose from and as far as I am aware the second tongue is always a different colour from the shoe and normal tongue so that it stands out. My pair are navy with a bright yellow tongue, plenty contrast to stand out and be a little different from the crowd.

The shoes themselves are the same as standard low-top converses. They have a rubber toe and sole and thick rubber sidewall before meeting the main canvas of the shoe. With visible stitching these shoes look really good and you can see that they are well made.

I think these are really comfy shoes, in my experience it can take a while to "wear them in" as it were. However once you have wore them for a while, you will not want to wear any other shoes as your feet feel so at home!

These shoes are pretty durable; I wear mine near enough every day and have had them for about 6 months. They still look like they have quite a bit of wear in them yet (although they could do with a clean!).

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

            Very n-Ice

Although the weather hasn't been great this summer in Scotland, I remain hopeful and still enjoy a refreshing drink. As everyone knows, no refreshing drink is complete without being poured over ice however without a fancy ice dispensing fridge/freezer ice can be a hassle.
Tesco easy seal ice cube bags are just the solution that is needed.
There are 10 bags in the box each with 24 separate spaces, so you do the maths. That's a lot of ice. To fill the bag all you need to do is hold the bag under the tap, holding the small funnel shaped opening so that the water easily flows in, filling every compartment.
Once filled the bag is simply turned upside down and this seals the opening. No need to fiddle around with knots.

I find these bags so much easier than a conventional ice cube tray. I can never find a big enough flat space in my freezer to put a tray in so that the water doesn't run all over the place. With the bags you can squeeze and bend them into smaller spaces. The bags also avoid that awkward slow walk from the sink to the freezer as you try desperately not to spill loads of water everywhere.

Once the water is frozen, to get the ice cubes out you are supposed to pull the sides of the bag in both the horizontal and vertical directions. This is supposed to break all the joins in the middle of the bag allowing the ice to all collect at the bottom, like a conventional bag. However, in my experience this is near enough impossible, no matter how hard you try. The plastic is far too thin on the outside of the bag meaning the ice just bursts through when you try to do this. This is not much of a problem as you can just pop a few out as you need them and put the remains back in the freezer.

These bags give perfect ice every time and do their job well. The price for this product is usually around £1 in my local Tesco. This is great for 240 well made ice cubes that can easily fit around the rest of the things in the freezer.

I always try to keep a bag of these in my freezer so I always have ice. I've had parties before where I've had to use a lot of these little gems to get plenty of ice for everyone, but when it is as simple at filling a bag with water and shoving it in the freezer, it really isn't a problem!

I'd give this product 4 stars overall, simply because the bag breaks too easily when trying to collect all the cubes in the bottom of it. Other than that, a perfect product.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

              Amazing

I'm not much of a cider drinker, and would much prefer a nice pint of Lager. However recently I have become quite fond of flavoured ciders, especially when they are over ice on a nice sunny summers day (although we don't get many of them in Scotland).

Kopparberg is a premium Swedish cider brand and one of the UK's top selling brands of cider. They make a variety of different flavours of cider both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

Kopparberg pride themselves in their image and promote events all over the country including music festivals, clubs and other events. The image of this brand is very good and due to its promotion has made the products very popular.

Kopparberg mixed fruits comes in 500ml glass bottles and is 4.0% alcoholic volume, 0.5% weaker than their amazing pear cider. The glass bottles are good looking and you can really tell that it is a premium product. 4.0% strength is about right for this fruity cider as the alcohol doesn't over power the lovely taste

Upon opening this cider you can smell the very sweet mixed fruit from across the room. This might turn some people off as a lot of people I know don't like such sweet drinks. However I like the smell and it really draws me in. The colour of the liquid is a lovely red colour and poured into a glass with ice just looks like juice.

The taste of this cider is un-matched. I can't think of anything that is as good, anything I've tried anyway! It is delightfully refreshing and not too fizzy like some ciders.

Priced at around £2.20 or 3 for £5 in most supermarkets, I think this is a good value product. In bars you would expect to pay more, probably around £3.99 in most that I have been to. Normally I would have this as a refreshing treat instead of my usual lager as it is more expensive but you are paying for quality so it is well worth it. Much like other Kopparberg products I would like to see these come in a box of 6 or more, as buying lots of bottles at a time is frustrating to carry.

I really do love this cider and it is probably my favourite fruit cider, rivalled by Bulmers no. 17. I like to treat myself with this cider, especially on a warm day.

This product is well deserving of 5 stars as it is an amazing product.

              Well done Kopparberg!

                Disadvantages

                Favourite Pear Cider

Kopparberg pear comes in 500ml glass bottles and is 4.5% alcoholic volume. The glass bottles are good looking and you can really tell that it is a premium product. 4.5% is a decent strength for this cider as you can tell that it's alcoholic but can still be easily drunk.

Opening the bottle you can tell that this is a sweet cider and the smell of pear really comes through. Even though this is a very sweet drink I think it is one of my favourite pear ciders. The taste is just amazing and it is still really drinkable unlike a lot of pear or apple cider which I just find absolutely horrible.

All in all this is my favourite out of all the pear or apple ciders I have tried and I love it as a bit of a change or a treat to myself. I probably wouldn't buy it in a bar because of the price but when it is on offer then I'm straight to the shelves to get myself some.

This product is well deserving of 5 stars as it is a truly tasty cider. Well done Kopparberg!

                  Not kopparbergs best

I'm not much of a cider drinker, and would much prefer a nice pint of Lager. However recently I have become quite fond of flavoured ciders, especially when they are over ice on a nice sunny summers day (although we don't get many of them in Scotland).

Kopparberg Elderflower and Lime comes in 500ml glass bottles and is 4.0% alcoholic volume. The glass bottles are good looking and you can really tell that it is a premium product.

Upon opening the bottle you can really smell the elderflower and not much of the lime. It is a bit overpowering but easy to get used to. The drink itself is very sweet and refreshing, but I think the strong elderflower taste is not for everyone. I myself could only drink one of these bottles at a time before being sick of it. It don't think the lime really shines through in the flavour but I'm sure without it the taste would be worse.

This drink is very fizzy and reminds me of sparkling water more than a cider, especially since you can't really tell that there is alcohol in it. This makes it quite a dangerous drink on a sunny day as it is refreshing and could be drank very quickly, making standing up to get to the toilet a dangerous task after a few drank quickly.

In supermarkets this drink usually sells for about £2.20 and has special offers on it for 3 for £5. This is not bad value for a quality cider however I would prefer if they would sell it in packs of 6 or more like boxes of beer as stacking lots of bottles into a basket is very annoying!

All in all I do like this drink but I don't think it's the best of the Kopparberg range. The price is right, however the very sweet taste can be a bit too much unless it is extremely nice weather and you're drinking it like juice!

I think I'd give this product 4 stars, but it was very nearly only 3. It really depends on when you are drinking it and what mood you are in at the time I would say.

                  Advantages

                  Disadvantages

                  A lovely guitar

PRS are probably my favourite guitar makers in the world. Paul Reed Smith has made quality hand built guitars for years and the SE range from PRS are the Korean made cheaper alternative to the quality hand crafted American models.
This is a six string solid body electric guitar modelled on its expensive counterpart, the original PRS custom 24, which was the first guitar Paul Smith took to a trade show.
                  Body-
The body is a mahogany body with a flamed maple top. This won't mean much to anyone other than a proper guitar nut, personally I just know that it's not heavy like some of my other guitars and the flamed top looks amazing!

I love the shape of this guitar as it's different from the standard "strat" shape that so many companies try to copy but not so different that it makes you stick out like a sore thumb. The edges are smooth and it feels great sitting on your lap or hanging off of a strap.

                  Neck-

This is a 24 fret guitar, but there is also a 22 fret model available, so there is plenty of room for those long runs up the fret board for those crazy solos.
The inlays on my model are crescent moons, which are cool because it's a small change on the standard dot inlay. I would prefer the flying bird inlays that can also be found on this guitar as I think they look fantastic and mirror the more expensive model better, but I got a great price on mine so I wasn't complaining!
I think the neck plays really well, it's not set up like a shred machine for metal players, but still has a nice low action allowing speed when desired but is also smooth for the more relaxed playing style.

                  Electrics-

The PRS SE custom 24 is fitted with 2 PRS designed humbuckers. These look really nice as they have a "zebra" look, with each half of the humbucker a different colour (cream and black). The pickups sound great and I have no desire to upgrade them. I can achieve anything from a heavy rock tone from the bridge to a lovely blues tone from the neck.

The pickup switch is a 3 way toggle, selecting neck, split or bridge pickup configurations. The switch feels quality unlike other guitars I have used where it just feels like the switch was just the cheapest the manufacturer could get their hands on.

The other controls are volume and tone. The tone is very good; allowing a lot of difference in the sound no matter what pick-up is selected. The volume is also very good, allowing a smooth change in volume unlike some which seem to do nothing then suddenly change from 1 to 10 in an instant.
The knobs on these controls are great too. Top quality feel to them and look the part too.

                  Hardware-

The hardware is all nickel and PRS designed.
The tuners feel quality and work really well allowing very small adjustments in tuning with ease.
The bridge is a PRS designed tremolo system. This is a great tremolo system and probably the best I've ever used. It feels like a cross over between a standard strat tremolo which doesn't over much, and a full on Floyd rose which offers full on madness. I have set my bridge so that it floats, allowing the tremolo system to fall and rise, allowing a lot of fun without the difficulties of a locking system.
The only problem with this bridge is that if you are going crazy on the tremolo arm then the tuning does slip because there are not locking tuners or a locking nut. You could buy PRS locking tuners for around £80 (when I looked a while ago) but I have never really felt the need to.

                  Price-

This beautiful instrument will probably set you back between £500 and £600. You might be thinking at this point that £600 is a lot for a cheaper model of a guitar, but compared to the £2,000 you would pay for an American PRS I think it's a steal! Compared to other companies cheaper versions, take squire from fender for example, the SE range are phenomenally well built and just look and feel so much better.

In conclusion this is my favourite guitar and I would not replace it for anything, unless maybe I win the lottery and can afford the £2,000 version !

                    Advantages

                    Disadvantages

                    a nice different drink

I first came across this drink when I moved to University. The student Unions at Glasgow University both use Eristoff vodka as their standard vodka and so also serve Eristoff black.

Eristoff black is described as being "wild berry flavour". At first I thought the bottle was black and the liquid would be purple-ish as berry flavoured drinks usually are. However this vodka is pure black in colour. This is really quite different from any other drink and always gets people asking what you are drinking.

This drink is 20% alcoholic, about half the strength of a pure vodka, so is rather easy to take as a shot. I love this as straight vodka is normally too strong for me to handle as a shot but I actually quite enjoy shotting this drink straight.

The fruity wild berry flavour is actually quite good. I expected it to be dull and the vodka to shine through quite a bit but it works really well. It is sweet, but not too sweet like some flavoured vodka mixes that are around.

I like to mix this with lemonade as drinking straight is still a little bit too much for drinking normally. Mixed in with the lemonade, the drink still remains pretty black, which is really cool. I haven't tried mixing Eristoff black with anything else, as I'm not really sure what the wild berry flavour would go well with. I'm sure there are probably some amazing cocktails that it could be used in, but not being a genius behind the bar I don't know what would go well!

The strong dark colouring of this drink makes it very easy to stain things. Much like drinking too much red wine this drink can stain your teeth if you drink too much, even when diluted with lemonade! If spilled then the drink will most likely ruin your clothing and that lovely cream carpet that always seems to take the hit!

Eristoff black usually sells for between £10-£13 in sainsbury's near my house. I would say this is good for a premium vodka, but then considering that it is only 20% alcohol, maybe it's not quite as worth it as normal vodka.

In conclusion this is a good drink if you want to splash out a bit or get something different. Just be aware of the cream carpet!!!

                      Advantages

                      Disadvantages

                      Good basic drink

I've tried many different vodka's during my first year of university, most of them cheap, and this one is one of the cheapest available. Coming in at between £8.50 and £9.00 (usually around £8.70) for a 70cl bottle, you would have to be mental to complain about the price.
As the name suggests basics vodka is just that, basic. There is no fancy packaging; it just comes in a plain glass bottle with a white cap and a plain white label with the usual sainsbury's basics style writing.
This vodka is 37.5% which is usual for cheap vodka as normally only the more expensive ones are 40% or above. The small difference in alcoholic content doesn't make much of a difference in my opinion so it's not really worth paying more for an alternative if it's just a stronger drink you are looking for.

The smell of this vodka reminds me strongly of paint stripper, not exactly something you want to be drinking, but if you don't stick your nose in it then you can't really complain about this feature of the drink.

I would never drink this cheap vodka straight as the taste is nowhere near smooth as the expensive brands. Mixed with lemonade or coke it tastes alright, but you really need to get your quantities right. Too much vodka and the drink is not enjoyable at all, as a student this is okay as the desired affect is just to get drunk before going out however if you actually want to enjoy a drink maybe a more expensive vodka would be better.
I found the best mixer with this vodka seemed to be orange juice, as the sweet taste of the orange juice took the edge off of the vodka.

I haven't personally made cocktails with this vodka but I know people who have and they say that in small amounts it is fine, much like with a mixer, but if you use too much then the vodka overpowers other flavours very easily.

One thing that I think this vodka is amazing for is infusing flavours. I like to make skittles vodka, by simply selecting a colour of skittle and putting a load of them in the bottle. Frequent shaking and a day or so later all the skittles will dissolve into the vodka and the flavour will be "infused". With this vodka I think doing this is great as it turns a rough vodka into a tasty skittle drink which is great with lemonade!

All in all I would give this product 4 stars. If I was comparing it to more expensive vodkas then I would have to rate it less, but when buying a basics product you know that you are not buying quality. With this in mind the vodka does pretty much what it says on the bottle.

                        • Reliability

                        Disadvantages

                        4 stars

When I moved to university last year I had to buy myself a laptop, as I only had a desktop PC before then. I was extremely happy with my laptop apart from one thing, the constant plugging in and unplugging of cables.

Since I like to record music I have quite a few USB devices that need to be plugged in. Add a printer, Ipod charger and external hard drives and you've got a lot of cables to keep track of.

This USB hub was the perfect solution.

                        Design-

The hub is small and stands upright. It looks amazing standing next to my laptop on the desk, all in black apart from one silver button on the front (which I'll get to).
The layout of ports is great as most of them are hidden on the back, but you still have easy access to a single USB port as well as headphone and microphone inputs on the front.

                        Ports-

As well as the USB, headphones and microphone, inputs on the front, this dock boasts a heap of ports on the back. Another 4 USB can be found, which will be plenty for most people, although I still use a small simple USB hub off of this as well. The USB are described as "always on". This means that even when your computer is not connected to the hub, as long as it is switched on, the USB ports are active. This is a great feature as it means things you are charging via USB can remain charging even if you take your laptop elsewhere! All the USB ports are 2.0 not 3.0, but that isn't a problem as there are not many devices that are 3.0 compatible at the moment.

What attracted me to this dock over many others is the additional ports that it boasts. The main one to talk about is the video port. The port is a DVI port, which I'm not really sure what it is for, but included is a DVI to VGA adapter. VGA is the standard video out port that laptops and projectors use. This is great as you can have an additional monitor or projector always attached without having to fiddle with the annoying connector with the screws!

There is a network port too, which most people will not require as wireless is so common these days. However I found it extremely useful as in my student halls we only had a wired internet connection so whilst everyone else had to keep unplugging and unplugging the cable, mine was always in the hub.

As well as the headphone out port on the front, there is a speaker output on the back. This is great as I really dislike laptop speakers.

                        Connectivity-

The whole hub connects to your computer via one USB cable. This is amazing as instead of everything I have plugged in normally, I only need one cable. The hub installs automatically on computers running windows 7 and vista, great for anyone who isn't really sure how to work computers well.

A power supply is included for the hub, so no need to try to find the right one.

                        Any problems?-
I love this hub and can only think of a few wee niggles. When I plug it into my laptop, my laptop automatically senses another screen being attached, even though I don't have one plugged into the hub. This means that the aspect ratio on my screen changes to try to be similar to the one it thinks it detects. I've fixed this problem by changing the default setting when the hub is plugged in to the normal setting, but sometimes it reverts. This is easily solved by unplugging and replugging the hub to the computer.

The only other thing is that the hubs USB isn't fast enough to work with my audio interface for recording. This isn't surprising as it requires a lot to work it and going through a chain of ports will take time for signals to pass. Like I said only a wee niggle.

                        Price-

I got the hub for around £80 and I think that is a bargain. The hub pretty much turns my laptop into a full desktop PC and for £80 that is a great deal.

In conclusion I think this is a great hub for anyone with a laptop they move around a lot and have many peripherals that they are always plugging in and unplugging.

Because of the small screen niggle , 4 stars!
