An absolute all time favorite of mine: it simply must be watched at least once a year!
It follows the unusual storyline of a typical english fellow ( The charming Hugh Grant) who owns a small bookshop in London. Until, one day a very famous actor ( quite literally, the beautiful Julia Roberts) walks into his quaint book shop much to his shock and delight.
It is a brief meeting, as she buys her book ( despite Grant's previous insistence it was an awful book) and leaves.
Later on, they of course meet again. In a comical scene William Thacker( Hugh Grant) walks into Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) and tips coffee all down her. She has to go to William's nearby house to clean it off, whilst William hastily tries to hide the mess of his apartment , shared with an odd but funny character Spike (Rhys Ifans) This is only the beginning of many humourous incidents throughout the film, as their relationship develops and turns into a turmoil of problems because of Anna Scott's fame.
The screenplay was by Richard Curtis, who had written Four Weddings and a Funeral.
Everyone knows that clumsy person who trips over everything, and breaks everything in their path. Or have been in that situation and said the most inappropriat thing by accident. Well, that about sums up Miranda. It is a unique and hilarious comedy that guarantees you will be laughing in the first minute. Miranda Hart wrote the script herself as well as starring as the main character, often doing unflattering things just for out entertainment - it's great !!
There is also a love interest between Miranda and the cook next door to her little shop, which makes it irrestistably addictive and not to mention cringey at times! Her mother is a strong character, who always says the wrong part of a gossip sentence quietly , which has a funny effect !
Miranda Hard is a comical genius and a brilliant actress - Miranda is quality tv and everyone should buythe series immediately - you won't regret it !!!!!
Although these books are aimed at children - they truly are so great and exciting that I think many more adults would read them if it wasn't for the stigma that they are children's books !! Which is a shame because they have impacted my life alot - they have such a variety of morals behind each story, and each book is so original and different from the last. J.K Rowlings ease of writting makes it thoroughly enjoyable to read, and Ron Hermione and Harry are depicted as such different characters and my favorite parts of any book are when the three of them are together..... They often have me in hysterics with Rowlings witty writting.
The first two books - The philosophers stone and The chamber of secrets are clearly written for a younger child, but after this they become more appropriate for adults in my opinion - with a highly complex plot that has ties to each book and brilliantly created revelations.
My absolutely favorite books of all time, they hold a place in my heart - and on my book shelf !!!
Do buy & enjoy :)
Ma he sold me
If only there were more than five stars to rate this autobiographical book!!
I can't recommend this enough , by buying this not only to you get a brilliant read- you also spread awareness of poverty for children who have no choice but to grow up materially and often culturally deprived; Martha Long is an inspirationally strong and determined woman who lived in Catholic Ireland -Dublin- in the 1950's. Against all odds she survived the filth of her home, and looked after her many many siblings, whilst earning money for the whole family by stealing butter from shops and reselling it to houses telling them that her mother received it with her benefit tokens but wanted to swap it for money , all for little gratitude and out of fear of her abusive step dad Jackser.
This book is guaranteed to enthral you and make you addicted to Martha Long's writting style - and i'm sure that, like me, you will order the next book from her 5 in total immediately after putting down "Ma, he sold me for a few cigarettes" !
A pretty decent film, particularly for Johnny Depp or Angelina Jolie fans. It combines crime with romance, and makes an interesting film- although not brilliant in my opinion.
Angelina Jolie's character was a bit cold for me to really get into it, and a don't really enjoy films she's in as she's a very unique actor and i feel that it often stops me from getting emotionally invested in the film.
However, if you are a fan of her then definitely watch this film !!
Johnny Depp was great, fitting into his role with ease : he plays a "normal" man who unwittingly gets involved in Angelina Jolie's plan to avoid being caught.
It unravels from there, and there is a memorable scene where they have a boat- race getaway on a river through venice.
The end has a real twist, which if i'm honest, I still don't completely understand how it is possible .... I don't want to give it away ,... I just feel that there should have been a further scene playing flashbacks perhaps , to help the audience understand it better.
I only knew of richard hammond from the tv show Top Gear ( he was always my favorite but Shhh!!) , however this book explores his childhood as the neighbourhood daredevil, through to his interview at Topgear, and his accident and recovery, and then to his up to date life.
It describes his accident in the high speed super car from both his and his wife's perspective - as he was unconscious for a long period this is understandable! His wife's dedication to him, and helping him with his painstaking recovery- both physically and mentally is heartwarming - especially as no one knew to what extent Richard would recover. The chapter in which James May and Jeremy Clarkson visit a sleeping/unconscious Richard is hilarious, although Richard couldn't recall the event afterwards.
Thank fully he made a full recovery, and the book describes his first day back at Top Gear : A very memorable episode of the show.
This was quite an odd film about a very unique and lone-wolf type man. It was based on the real story, which makes it much more thrilling!
Ot truly shows us the strength of the human character and out will to live, also how quickly everything we know and deem to be important in our lives can suddenly be hanging by a thread as life slowly slips away - in that situation it makes you wonder whether you could find the strength, after being trapped by a boulder for five days with no food and little water, to cut off your own arm with a blunt knife?
As unlikely as it seems , it happened to this guy. Often i found myself gripping my seat, and the scene where he saws of his arm is gruesome and vivid but really shows the reality of it. The friend I was watching it with went and bought a £25 army knife after watching the agonisingly slow process of him using such a blunt knife!!!!
Well worth watching
I bought this as a last minute christmas present for my sister, and we were both pretty delighted and surprised by just how good this is!
It costs around six pounds, and you simply paint your nails, then turn the lid over so the magnetic strip faces down, place the little rim of it against your cuticle (furthest from your nail end) and hold for around ten to twenty seconds..... It pulls the magnetic particles from the polish up to the surface of the nail creating a diagonally lines pattern, which you would never guess was done at home from a pot of polish!!!
The only problem I had was that the Boots had a very limited choice of colours - only four i believe, and also there seemed to be only one magnet deign which I thought was a bit strange as I'm sure many more peple would want to buy a different design so that their nails don't constantly have the same pattern>?!
I mostly knew of Ant and Dec from The X Factor and I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! where their witty banter was irresistable!
Their personalities are evident throughout the book and at times they had me in stitches.
Unfortunately I found the start of the book quite boring and slow-to-warm-up , but if you read past that bit then it soon gets very good - a real page-turner!
Before reading this book, I thought that they were merely great colleagues that got along well whilst workling. I hadn't realised that in fact they are best mates that do everything together - and when one moves house, the other soon turns up having bought the house two doors down!
It is quite a light hearted read, which is a great break from a lot of in depth dark book nowadays. I am very glad that I read it and advise everyone to do the same: just read past the first chapter and it becomes a great read !
This book is a must have. I started reading it as I had nothing else to read, and of course like a lot of people I had started to see Gok Wan on TV or in the media- but never really knew anything about him!
He had such a hard and sad childhood - he was obese and bullied for his size, not in the obvious way but the much more hurtful snide remarks and sneering from his fellow pupils. He wore Marks and Spencers unfashionable jump suits, because they were the only clothes that fit him. He reached 21stone before he became anorexic - at this stage I found it terribly sad to read as he survived some days on just a teaspoon of honey. He went from being one of the nerdy uncool kids at school to being a much-loved and somewhat popular young man at college.
I don't want to spoil the book by saying too much, but it is a very emotional and eye opening book, and it proves that being a celebrity is often by no means an easy life choice. Gok Wan worked extraordinarily hard just for the glimmer of hope that one day he would get the job of his dreams.
Who knew that he could write so fluently and humourously?!

This is a brilliant little run around car! Absolutely recommend this one hundred percent.
They have lovely engines, which seem to purr !! They are two doored and have a relatively spacious boot for the size of the car. (Also they look fab with stick on eyelashes!!!! :D ) Have had this Nissan Micra for three years, and the only problem I have ever had is with worn out break pads, which let's face it happens to all cars at some point!
It is a great first car, as it has brilliant visability and a low dashboard. Uses hardly any petrol, and really seems to go far on half a tank.
The heaters are very powerful - which is a must for those of you off to work/education early in the cold mornings :)
But the must important thing is that they have a great unique quality about them and I absolutely cannot recommend that you buy one more!!!!
