I am reviewing the Sony SVE1513Q1EB, and not the SVE1511M1EB, as i can't find the SVE1513Q1EB in the dooyoo catalogue, it is basically the SVE1511M1EB with Windows 8 instead of Windows 7, and HD4000 graphics instead of HD3000, everything else is the same.
I love this Laptop, It's very fast, opens Chrome in a second, Boots in around 10 seconds, all round a very fast machine. It has Intel 4000 HD Graphics, which means i can play the latest games, albeit on Medium settings, I've downloaded the demo's of Euro Truck simulator 2, Football Manager 2013 and F1 2012 and they all work reasonably well, of course this isn't a gaming Laptop so don't expect High Res graphics
It comes pre-installed with a load of Sony Vaio Crap-ware which i simply deleted out of the box, it has Windows 8 which is a simplified version of Windows, which is built mainly for touchscreen devices, it doesn't really work on a non-touchscreen Laptop that well, but you'll get used to it, The only annoyance i really have with this Laptop is the Touch Pad, which another reviewer has already touched on, the Left and right click are positioned underneath the touch pad itself, which takes some getting used too, I much prefer the standard touchpads seen on other laptops, but this is only a minor annoyance.
It comes with 4GB of ram which is more than enough for me, you can upgrade this yourself manually by placing another 4gb stick in the back, it supports up to 8GB, i find i rarely use over 2gb at once so it isn't much of a problem, unless if you're a heavy user doing things like Photo and Video editing, you won't notice any slowdown.
It had a 2.6ghz processor with Turbo boost up to 3.2Ggz, which i haven't used yet, This laptop is really fast, It has a great design, very sleek, it has very high quality speakers, even at the highest volume i don't experience any distortion.
In conclusion, i would recommend this Laptop, you can get Laptops with similar specifications for a bit less, but i was happy to pay a bit more for the high quality design, it doesn't feel plasticy or cheap like other brands.
My first review in a while, i was looking around my room thinking what i should review next, and right in front of me i saw my babyliss hair clippers, i checked the model number and surely enough it was right here on dooyoo, so i thought i'd write a review.
I bought these Hair Clippers in 2009/2010 from Argos, i remember they were very cheap at the time, around £15, so i got them - I cut my own hair regularly, mainly because i'm very cheap, but also because i'm quite talented at cutting hair, so firstly i'll say what you get in the box.
Babyliss Mens Hair Clippers with a cable which i would day is around 130cm.
10 Basic Guards (1-10) Number 1 cuts at 3mm, with number 10 cutting at 32mm.
Left and Right Taper Guards
Some cheap scissors which can barely cut paper, 3 hair clips and a brush, i'm pretty sure you get a little pot of oil too, but don't quote me on that.
The Cut - These Clippers cut hair really well, extremely reliable, i usually go over the area's i am clipping twice to pick up any hairs which i may have missed, this gives excellent results, i very rarely experience any hair being pulled from my head, when i do it's usually because i am rushing so i blame myself for that, not the clippers, if you use a steady speed these clippers glide through hair with ease, i myself have thin hair, but i have used these on both my Uncle and my cousins' very Thick hair, and the cut was faultless.
The sound - This is an important factor when purchasing hair clippers, my old set, which i had from 2006-2009 (not babyliss) were too loud, these clippers however are relatively quiet, you can talk with someone as you are using them, i'd say the volume is about the same as when you hear a plane in the far distance, you know it's there but it's not too intrusive.
Comfort/Feeling - These Clippers are very comfortable to hold, they have a very smooth design, with a rubbery grip layer on the underside, and a shiny plastic covering on the top, they're just so comfortable to hold in your hand, this would probably be my favorite thing about these clippers, the design is so simple and comfortable, again faultless. Also, i should add, that these clippers don't get overly hot, of course this depends on usage, i would say the longest i've used these for is 40 minutes non stop, and after that amount of time they were beginning to get warmish, but not hot to the extent that they were becoming unusable, so i can't complain about the hotness.
This review makes me sound like some kind of Babyliss fanboy, i'm really not, i just can not fault these clippers in anyway whatsoever, you even get a nifty little carry case, what more could you want for £15? these get 5 out of 5 from me.
Thank you for reading my review
I got this Xbox Webcam bundled with the video game 'In the Movies' a few years ago, i'm not very impressed with it to be honest, especially from a company like Microsoft, i expected much better than this.
Firstly, i should say i really like the design, it looks stylish and simple, if you've read my previous reviews you will know this how i like my technology, so this is a plus-point - it comes with a pretty long cable, i'd say over 2 metres which is a decent length, it also has a USB 2.0 Connection.
The camera itself has a manual focus, something which i don't particularly like, i would much rather have seen an auto focus - to alter the focus you turn the circle on the front of the camera until you appear in focus, but i find, that even when i have reached the optimum focus with this device, it is not clear, it's very blurry and just poor, the colours are not great either, everything looks faded and it has no vibrancy or sharpness.
The video, it claims is captured at 30fps (480p) i don't think this camera gets anywhere near 30fps, from my experience it is more like 15fps, it's very laggy when being used as a webcam on my laptop, and also with the 'in the movies' videogame - If you wish to use this webcam with your laptop, you simply plug it in via usb, and it automatically installs the drivers in around 2 minutes, it is then ready to be used with Skype or similar services.
If you're looking for a webcam to use for video chatting, you can get much better models than this, if you are looking for a camera to use with your xbox 360, this is the camera which comes bundled with many games, i'm unsure if other models work, i'm guessing they don't, as the xbox would be unable to install the drivers for a different webcam, so you may well be stuck with this poor camera.
I can only award this camera a 2 out of 5, with the plus points being a long cable and nice design, let down buy a poor picture quality
For me, this tripod is faultless, i use it with my Fujifilm AV100 which has a weight of 120g, this is around the standard weight for basic digital camera, there are many joby tripods to choose from, with the most basic models supporting 325g and the micro model supporting 250g, so this is more than capable of holding onto your camera and keeping it in position.
You can see the full range of Joby tripods here http://joby.com/gorillapod - I myself use the magnetic model, it comes with a RRP of $20 (around 12 pounds) you can get it for much less than this, but even at 12 pounds i would class this as value for money.
It will grip to just about anything you can think of, branches, fences, railings, if you choose to purchase this magnetic model it gives you even more flexibility - i've taken some pictures with it stuck to a refrigerator door, it works perfectly, the design is stylish and intuitive, it's extremely light and can weigh no more than 50 grams, it has the standard tripod screw which you can see on almost all camera's, this takes around 2 seconds to attach and then you're ready to shoot pictures anywhere.
You can get cheaper tripods - tripods that do a decent job, but i view a purchase like this as an investment, 12 pounds does seem like a lot to spend on a tripod, but this will allow me to take so many pictures i couldn't have taken without it, setting the timer to 10 seconds and running back to get in the shot, while your camera hangs from a tree, it's great fun and gives interesting pictures from the craziest of angles,
Buy this tripod, you won't regret it, it gets a 5 out of 5 from me, thank you for reading my review
I can not fault this mouse, i've been using it for over 2 years, i follow the 'if i isn't broke, don't fix it' way of living, so i expect to be using this mouse for a very long time - I purchased this mouse because it was cheap, no other reason, it was around £3/£4, it comes with a standard USB 2.0 connection, has a scroll wheel, right and left click and uses an LED light to track your movements.
The mouse itself is comfortable in the hand, it has a lovely soft plastic covering, the scroll wheel is reliable and has a perfect sensitivity, scrolling through web pages is a natural experience, the timing is spot on - The LED tracker is also very good, as you don't have a ball you don't need to use a mousepad, this can be used on surfaces such as carpet or bedding and it works perfectly well.
The clicking noise is not loud, i notice some mouses have an incredibly annoying click, this mouse has a very soft click, it won't annoy people, the wire is around 1.5 metres long, which is an ideal length in my opinion, not too long and not too short.
The design and pattern is sublime, i like simplicity when it comes to things like Mouses, Keyboards etc, less is most definitely more, the black and silver casing is simple yet looks modern and i just love it, i couldn't fault this mouse at all.
5 out of 5 from me
I bought these many years ago when i was an absolute beginner at lifting weights, by using these cheap vinyl discs i have defined my biceps and triceps, and am now very pleased with my arms! the Vinyl discs are ugly though, it depends on personal opinion but i find the cast iron weights much nicer looking, they are more expensive though.
In this set you get 4 x 2.5KG discs and 4 x 1.25 KG discs, you are able to load the full 15kg on to one bar, this is ideal for building defined biceps, and like i say, it is perfect for beginners, there are literally hundreds of different workouts you can do with these weights.
The bar itself comes with a comfortable rubber type plastic covering the cold metal, this makes the bar easy to grip and hold, these weight discs can be used with any standard Dumbbell or Barbell bar, i currently use them with a totally different set of weights to do my bench presses so they are inter-changeable
The discs are durable, i've had them maybe 5 years now and they are as good now as they were when i bought them, i'm pretty sure these will last longer than cast iron discs as they aren't as susceptible to rust, York fitness is a very highly rated and respected brand in the world of weightlifting, and i really couldn't fault these discs, for me they get a 5 out of 5.
I bought this Exercise bike 6 months ago, not for the current price of £90 though, i got it in a sale for around half that price, so thought i was getting a good deal...
First things first i will say the setting up and installation was quite simple, i was expecting this to be a difficult process but it was easy, straight out of the box you have to connect the two pedals, the seat, and the vertical bar to the base of the machine, and then connect the handlebars - this takes around 15/20 minutes, the instruction manual is very clear, with pictured instructions and very basic step by step instructions that most people should be able to follow easily, so for a 'flat pack' exercise bike, this is very good.
The design is very nice, my model has a shiny red outer casing which looks very modern, the seat is comfortable which is an important factor when purchasing an exercise bike in my opinion, the handlebars have a foam casing which also feel very nice to hold, so i can't fault the design at all.
This bike comes with a basic computer which measures things such as distance travelled, speed, calories burnt and heartbeat monitor, although the heartbeat monitor basically predicts your heartbeat based on how long you use the machine, it doesn't have any kind of actual measuring tool, like a wristband or watch, so i take the information with a pinch of salt, my heartbeat has reached around 200bpm which is just ridiculous from a gentle bike ride, the Calorie counter also predicts the calories you have lost, so i'm sure it isn't accurate - The distance travelled and speed counters both work very well.
This bike features 8 settings, with 1 being the easiest and 8 being the most difficult, however, i find that even when i use this bike on the 8th setting, it is far too easy, there is some resistance but not enough, in comparison to the exercise bikes at my local gym, the resistance really falls short, i would of liked to have some variation in the resistance settings, so i can actually work my legs, all i can really manage on this bike is a 'gentle bike ride' feeling, i was expecting more.
To conclude i would say this is very nice looking machine, the design is of a very high standard, it is quiet when in use, you can easily use this and watch TV at the same time, the seat is comfortable, of course you can vary the height to the seat to suit you, it is a very smooth machine but simply doesn't have enough resistance, i don't feel like i've had a proper workout after using this bike, so for that reason i can only award this bike a 3 out of 5.
These Kettles have a life of around 3 months... 6 if you're lucky.
Our first Tesco JK12 kettle was fine at first, then suddenly one day, it refused to boil, unhappy with my purchase i took it back to the store and they rightly replaced it, then our second Tesco JK12 kettle did the exact same thing, it would boil intermittently, whenever it felt like it, sometimes it would stop boiling half way through...some times it would just randomly boil on it's own, so again, we took it back, i know it's only £6 but it's just a kettle, how hard is it to heat water?
Anyway, we now have our 3rd Tesco JK12 (they gave it us for free) Which is Boiling well enough so far, but... Leaking! - to pour a drink you have to lift the lid, otherwise you'll get water all over your worktop/sinkboard, this Kettle is just crazy, i think the people in factory named this kettle the JK12 because it is a JK (Joke)
You would be better of purchasing a more expensive £15-£20 Kettle, that's what i plan to do when this one inevitably breaks, it's just so bad.
Prison Break was, and still is one of my favorite television shows, so when i opened this boxset on Christmas morning i was very pleased, it comes in brand new packaging, which consists of an outer cardboard sleeve (A real pain to open without tearing) and an inner plastic case containing all 80 episodes, spread across 23 discs, it also includes 'The Final break' - the final episode.
The boxset is of a very high quality, the artwork on the discs is the same as the artwork on the discs if you were to buy the seasons separately so this is simply a repackage, however, it is still very nice, the artwork on the box itself features Michael and Lincoln from season 1 (The best season) - the show declined after season 2 in my opinion, this boxset also contains extra's from each season, such as some deleted scenes, interviews, and 'making of' documentaries, i haven't watched them yet but they seem interesting enough.
the price of this boxset is around £30, and if you're a fan of the show like me, you will love this entire series, likewise if anyone likes 'prison escape' type movies in general, such as the Shawshank redemption, they will also love this show.
************** Spoilers ***************
quickly below i will outline the premise of the show and what happens in each season.
Season 1 - Lincoln Burrows is wrongfully accused of murdering the Vice presidents brother and is placed on death row awaiting execution, His brother, Michael Schofield hatches a genius plan to rescue his brother, and escape from the prison - My Rating 10/10
Season 2 - On the Run from Prison, the FBI/CIA chase the escapee's across America, which comes to a climax in the final episode where Michael is recaptured, this is a very gripping season, my rating would be 8/10
Season 3 - Recaptured..Michael finds himself in a Panamanian Prison, which you guessed it...he breaks out of again, this time he has to break out some guy called Whistler, a really annoying little man, and one of the many reasons why i dislike season 3, still this is a pretty watchable season, it's shorter than the the others as it was made during the writers strike of 2007... my rating 6/10
Season 4 - Now the show gets ridiculous, Michael and his gang are given a chance of immunity, and a chance to be free once and for all if they can recover a set of mysterious cards, in the later episodes Michaels 'dead' mother shows up and it all gets very silly, but still, quite watchable, my rating 5/10
The Final Break - Michael's wife Sara is put in prison for some reason, so Michael breaks into the prison, and breaks her out, in doing so, he makes the ultimate sacrifice, this is like a mini-movie, my rating for this would also be 5/10
This was an excellent TV Show, which sadly overstayed it's welcome, the boxset can not be faulted though, it has everything you would want in a boxset, so for that reason i am giving it a 5 out of 5
Thank you for reading my review
Considering how Apple like to be the best at everything they do, it is surprising to find they bundle these quite awful earphones in with every Ipad, Iphone and Ipod they sell, especially when you consider both an Ipad and an Iphone will cost you well over £300, they aren't exactly strapped for cash, Apple are currently the richest company in the world, and it is hardly surprising when they cut corners like this.
The sound quality is abysmal, it is tinny at high volume, has no depth whatsoever, When you get a good set of earphones, you can just feel it, the beat will reverberate through your body, it will be smooth and crisp, even at high volume, These apple earphones do not do this, they are the same quality as a set of earphones you would expect to see in a poundland store - Very poor.
The microphone isn't as bad, it picks up my voice well enough, I recorded myself to see how i sound (because i seriously have nothing better to do) and i sound pretty clear and crisp, so i have no complaints about the microphone, also, the volume control buttons work perfectly.
The style and design is good, one thing which Apple always excel in is making things look good, they stay in my ear well if i'm sitting still, but will sometimes fall out if i move around, using these while jogging is impossible in my experience.
A surprisingly average product from Apple, i will rate these as 2.5 out of 5, thank you for reading my rather brief review, there is only so much you can say about a pair of earphones.
I bought this screen around 18 months ago when my old screen broke, the main reasons i decided to get this screen were because it was very cheap (under £70) and very big (18.5") - it also looked quite nice and sleek, i had heard some good things about Hanns G as well, so purchasing this screen really was a no brainer.
Setting up was quick and painless, the screen clicked into the stand easily enough, it has 1 standard 15pin VGA input, 1 Audio jack and 1 power supply, so it took around 1 minute to set up, i turned on my computer and surely enough the screen worked as expected, however, almost immediately i noticed there was a blurriness, a slight lack of crispness which was instantly noticable, i tried altering my settings but things didn't improve, don't get me wrong, the picture is acceptable, and for £70 i wasn't expecting anything special, so i couldn't have too many complaints.
The best thing about this screen is it's design, for such a cheap model it really does have a beautiful design, it has a sleek, shiny black casing, the Hanns G branding on the bottom and a couple removable stickers on the left side, Also the stand is of a very high quality, it is move-able so you can change the angle of your screen, but it is extremely solid as well.
The speakers are average, they aren't particularly loud if you are relying on the in-built speakers as your sound output, and i would certainly recommend using separate speakers if this was being used on a daily basis, they are hidden around the back of the screen so i find the sound is aimed towards the wall/away from my ears, the sound is sometimes muffled, but again, for just £70 i wasn't expecting high quality sound.
Like i said earlier, this screen only has 1 input, (1 x VGA) it doesn't have a HDMI input, Scart Input or TV Aeriel input, this screen can not be used as a Television screen, i would of liked to have a seen 1 HDMI input but again, for just £70 i can't be to disappointed.
I should add, sometimes, the screen will take anything up to 5 minutes to actually turn on, for example, if i hooked up my Acer Netbook to the Hanns G screen using the VGA cable, it will usually take around 5 minutes for the picture to appear, i have no idea why it does this but i just thought i'd add this to my review to let people know.
So, as my title says, you get what you pay for, i am still happy with my purchase as i was looking for a cheap screen, and to be honest i only use this screen a few times a month, but for anyone who is looking for a screen to use on a daily basis, i would recommend spending an extra £30 or so, and getting a slightly better screen.
Thank you for reading my review.
For many years, i would buy batteries, use them until they were dead and then throw them away, that was until i came across this nifty little rechargeable battery pack from Energizer, i saw it on the shelf for around £8 and thought i may as well give it a try - That was around 2 years ago, and since then, i can honestly say, i have never bought a single AA Battery, i currently have 8 Rechargeable batteries, which i bought at the same time as the charger (4 came included, 4 came separate), they have been drained and recharged 100+ times, the amount of money they have saved me is quite astronomical if i think about it,
A full charge of the batteries will take a few hours, from my experience around 4-5 hours, and once fully charged they will not need re-charging for months if being used in a television remote control, if you are using them in a controller for a console (PS3, XBOX, Wii etc) they will give you around 40 hours of game play before needing a charge, and for a digital camera, they will usually power a camera for around month, but of course they drain faster depending on your usage.
Also, the batteries which i have are just 1300 Mah. so if you had a rechargeable battery which was 2000 Mah or more, you would be able to power things for even longer.
This specific model can be bought from Argos right now for £9.99
A pack of 4 x 2000Mah AA Batteries will cost you around £8 depending where you shop.
A pack of 4 x 1300Mah AA Batteries will cost you around £5-6 depending where you shop.
So it really is worth going for the 2000Mah batteries, i would highly recommend this product to Everyone!
**This charger supports all Rechargeable batteries, not just Energizer**
Thank you for reading my review.
This Laptop is the definition of Value for money, i managed to purchase it for the bargain price of £329, and when you consider it has a powerful 2.53ghz processor, 15.6" Screen, add to that it has 4GB of ram, and you have a super smooth computer, which can handle simultaneousness tasks, effortlessly, i won't bore you with the technical details as they can be seen above, they are all very impressive.
My main concern when buying this laptop was whether it would be powerful enough to run some games, it comes with integrated Intel HD Graphics, but it doesn't have a dedicated graphics card, such as Nvidia or Radeon, so as you can imagine i was apprehensive when i popped in my Sims 3 disk... But to my surprise, it played without any problems, smooth and crisp, with no excessive loading or lag, it also has no problems with video, handling 1080p youtube video's with no problem whatsoever (something which would freeze my old acer laptop)
It comes with the Windows 7 64bit operating system (a huge improvement on the dreadful vista) and everything just works, you open the box, the laptop loads up, and around 20 minutes later, it is up and running, everything really is so simple, it has no problems finding wifi, browsing the internet is a smooth, fast experience, you very rarely encounter any freezing or stuttering when loading even the most data intensive of web pages.
This Laptop is ideal for anyone wishing to edit their videos, programs such as Sony Vegas, Cyberlink power director and corel video studio all work seamlessly, i just download the trials because i'm cheap like that, but for anyone who is interested in video editing, this machine won't let you down, Also, for anyone who wishes to video chat with relatives or friends via skype, i have tried this a few times and it has worked flawlessly, it comes with an in-built 0.3mp camera which doesn't sound particularly great, but the picture surprisingly is very clear and not laggy at all, in comparison to the camera on the Google Nexus 7, which is 1.2 mp but far less clear and much laggier, so don't pay to much attention to the numbers, the 0.3mp webcam is very good.
And finally the sound is very clear and crisp, the speakers are situated on the front of the device, just above the keyboard and they resemble scart sockets, they could of been designed slightly better in my opinion, but hey, i'm not complaining, this laptop is perfect for just about anyone, sure you could get a more expensive, powerful machine, but for an all rounder, this can not be beaten.
Thank you for reading my review.
Firstly, let me start by saying this a great camera, it takes sharp pictures, with a huge array of different settings for things such as ISO, Lighting, Flash, image stabilization and Macro mode, it has different picture modes for different situations which it detects automatically or manually depending on your preference, it has face recognition and has a respectable 12 megapixels, the lens itself is also very good, resulting in extremely crisp pictures, with tremendous detail.
It shoots Full HD Video (1080p) which looks fantastic, even in darkly lit rooms it takes very clear videos, with lots of colour, the sound is also excellent, not tinny or distorted, it really is a great point and shoot HD video camera.
However, it is the with the Video camera that the 'rather annoying problem' arises, the camera comes with 3 video quality settings of 360p, 640p and 1080p, both 320p and 1080p work perfectly, but the problem occurs when you record in 640p, occasionally, if you record a video in 640p mode it will be out of sync by a long way, around 30 seconds, this makes the 640p function completely unusable and unreliable, and i would advise you not to use the 640p recording mode. (I have checked similar reviews and many people experience this issue so it's not just me)
The Camera design is quite nice, it fits nicely in the hand, it has virtually no internal memory, around 32mb, so you'll need a hefty SD Card as HD Video's can result in files of 500mb plus, i'd recommend a 8GB + card.
it requires 2 x AA batteries and on a full charge it will shoot around 60/70 minutes of HD video, or take around 150/200 pictures, I would much prefer a lithium ion battery as this device really does drain power fast! rechargeable AA batteries are a must for this camera, It also comes with the standard tripod screw area, and Mini USB slot.
All in all, overlooking the 1 major problem, this is a very good camera for a very low price, it can be picked up for under 50 pounds, and considering it shoots perfect 1080p HD, i am willing to overlook the 640p issue and award this camera a favourable 4 our of 5.
Thank you for reading my review.
As many only fools and horses fans are fully aware, the show has been cut to pieces, with entire scenes missing from the dvd releases, music being replaced and lines being totally dubbed or simply removed, for those of you who don't know what i am referring too, please read here http://www.british-tv-cuts.co.uk/only-fools-and-horses.html. - You will be surprised by how much has been cut out.
The boxset itself is very nice looking, The DVD's have great menu's, it features every season of Only fools and horses, minus the Christmas specials, if you wanted to have a complete collection you would also have to buy the Christmas specials DVD, or the Complete collection, which includes all seasons and all christmas specials - this can be picked up for around £30
this DVD has no special features, commentaries or bloopers, add this to the missing scenes and it's very hard to rate this boxset highly, the show itself is a 5/5, but the boxset only gets a 2.5/5 from me.
