I generally wear quite a lot of eye make-up consisting of a base, eyeshadow, eyeliner and then mascara on top!
After wearing kohl eyeliners for many years, I started trying various liquid eyeliners that were on the market. I generally found liquid eyeliners to be difficult to apply, especially as I haven't got a very stead hand, or enough patience to spend ages perfecting it!!
When I saw this product in boots, I was quite intrigued as I'd not used a gel eyeliner before. For £7.99 I thought the price wasn't much different to what I pay for a decent kohl pencil eyeliner, so I decided to give it a go!
The pot is quite small, and you get a nice little brush with it too. Even though the pot does look small, I must add that it lasts for absoloutely ages!! I think I might get a year or two out of mine the rate i'm going!! (And I use it everyday!).
What I like about this is that the gel is thick enough to give good coverage in one sweep, and with the brush being thicker than most liquid eyeliners, I didn't have to go over again and again! You have complete control about how much you apply - for the evenings I layer it on thicker, but in the day, I usually use sparingly, and try to blend it outwards, giving more of a smoked look.
I have also mixed this eyeliner with other powder eyeshadows, e.g. the Barry M glitter pots, as you can make the eyeliner into more of a glitzy one if you want!!
Lasts all day, without smudging and does both the top and bottom eyelids! Can't praise this eyeliner enough, as it really is an essential in my make up bag now!!
I bought this product from my local supermarket as part of a 3 for 2 offer where I bought a range of the John Freida Brilliant Brunette products.
I've got to admit, i've never been a fan of serums, as I always have a fear that it's just adding a greasy look to your nice clean hair!! But, I thought i'd give it a go as it had been recommended to me by a friend.
The tube doesn't look that big, but trust me, it's lasts for AGES!! The product itself is a clear serum, with tiny tiny reflective particles in it. The smell is nice, sort of coconutty but not overpowering!!
Depending on the length and thickness of your hair would depend on how much product you need to apply. My hair is a medium/longer length and again quite medium in thickness... I use about half a pea sized amount which I squeeze onto my palm, rub between both hands, and then gently skim across my hair.
The first time I use this I was still skeptical about applying too close to the top of my hair, in case I made myself look like i'd not washed my hair for a week!! I mainly applied to any 'frizzy' bits from the layering in my hair, and concentrated on the ends. I have got to say that I was pleasantly surprised! Not only did it tame any flyaway hairs, but it really did add a nice gloss and shine to my hair!
The next time I used it, I was more daring and applied to even the top of my hair! Again, as long as you don't apply top much, it really does do what is says on the tin!! Not greasy at all, but makes your hair lovely and soft. Everyone comments on how much healthier my hair looks now, and I think a large part is down to this serum just adding the finishing touches!!
Overall, definitely worth the money and THE best serum that I have tried.
As mentioned in some of my other reviews, I have recently gone from being a bleach blonde, to a chocolate brunette!
I invested a little more money with buying this product, as I appreciate you can get other conditioners that are cheaper. I bought this in a 3 for 2 deal from my local supermarket along with the shampoo and satin shine gloss for brunettes.
I love this conditioner and can't rate it highly enough!! My hair was very dry, brittle and generally lacking the wow factor. When I applied this conditioner to wet hair, I found that my hair instantly felt much softer and less brittle. The conditioner has a nice thick consistency, and I don't think you need much when applying...
I use this everytime I wash my hair, and generally only need to leave it on for 30 seconds to 1 minute - this leaves me with lovely soft, glossy and tangle free hair!! If I sometimes feel my hair is a bit drier than usual, I will leave the conditioner on longer - say 3-5 minutes whilst in the shower and I find this acts as more of a deep conditioning treatment.
The only thing I would mention is that I don't think I would leave it on for this long everytime, as I wouldn't want it to build up! Plus, I think 1 minute usually does the trick!!
The smell is the same as the shampoo, a sort of faint coconut smell. Keeps my hair really healthy and I am delighted to say that my split ends are no where near as bad as before I starting using this! It also keeps my colour looking glossy after washes, and my hair is easy to dry and maintain.
Couldn't live without this now, and I would definitely recommend any brunettes to give it a go!!
I absolutely LOVE this shampoo and matching conditioner.
I think it's important to mention that I recently have gone from being platinum blonde to being a chocolate brown! Needless to say that my hair needed a little TLC as the ends were dry and it was prone to splitting.
I bought this shampoo as it was on offer in my local supermarket, 3 for 2 deal - which for the price, I think is really good as it came in around £10 for 3 products.
The shampoo itself has quite a smooth consistency, and has a slight shimmer to it anyway! The smell is lovely too and has a hint of coconut! You don't need much product to rub in, as generally a little goes a long way with this! It lathers up lovely, and makes your hair feel really clean and shiny... even before you add the conditioner.
I've used a couple of shampoos since being brunette, and this is definitely my favourite!! I don't quite know whether it does actually work, but always seems to keep the colour looking glossy, as other shampoos that I have used seem to lighten my hair quite a lot! I wash my hair every other day, and haven't found this to "clog up" my hair (again, i've used some other products and found that if you use it everytime, it doesn't have the same effect and I feel the need to change shampoos)...
It lasts me a good 6 weeks or so, with using the conditioner alongside.
I am happy to say that my hair is now much stronger, healthier and always looks shiny and feels clean! I also wash my hair less with this shampoo as in the past I used to have to wash my hair every day.
I also wanted to mention that this shampoo doesn't leave my scalp dry or itchy either - which is always a bonus!
I'd definitely recommend this to any brunettes who are proud of their hair! Worth paying that little bit extra, as it'll save you a fortune in the long run as you'll have beautiful and healthy hair :)
Being a self-confessed make up fiend, I do generally buy most items of make-up, try them, dislike them, and give them to a family member!!
However, with this Max Factor mascara, it's different. I've now been using this religiously for over 3 years and honestly can't say I will ever change!
Firstly, I use it in Black, but you can get a black/brown or brown depending on your own preference. I am quite lucky, as I've always had quite long eyelashes, but this mascara really enhances them in both length and volume.
I apply this mascara first thing in the morning before I go to work, and by the time I get ready for bed, they are still perfectly in place :) I've even been known to fall asleep with it on, and no joke, could get away with wearing it again the day after!!
The brush looks pretty standard to be honest, doesn't have a particularly exciting head and doesn't claim to give you a million lashes. It does however separate your lashes really well (not too much though as I like to be able to tell I have eyelashes!!). It definitely lengthens them, and I must apply 2 or 3 layers or mascara depending on the occasion. Usually for work, i'd say 2 does the trick.
What I LOVE about this mascara is that there are never ever any "flakes" left under your eyes! My pet hate is flaky mascara... You can add layer after layer, and as long as you apply correctly, there is rarely any clumps. The brush manages to get those tiny lashes in the corners of your eyes too which is great, as some mascaras make it impossible to do!!
Once the mascara is dry, it sits nicely, doesn't run much when you cry (compared to many mascaras) as it's pretty sturdy!! It also doesn't feel like your eye lashes are rigid, as I often touch my eye lashes, but they still bounce back into position!! Also, this is a plus for me, I wear contact lenses, and have had major issues with mascaras in the past as they just make my eyes stream and stream... Never had any such problems with this one :)
For £9.99 I'd recommend anyone to give this a go. I've found it to be consistently reliable!! Only slightly slightly negative point, is that it doesn't last as long as some others - not sure whether that's just because I use it ALL the time, or just because there's not actually as much product in there! Saying that, I do get a good 6 weeks out of this mascara... you can tell when it's reaching it's lifetime as it becomes a little clumpy at the very end...
Please buy this mascara, you will not be disappointed!! I always get compliments on my lashes, and it's all down to Max Factor!
I bought this mascara having seen the TV ad's with various celebs looking fab with amazing lashes... and yes... I bought into the whole concept of wanting to have lashes like those!!
So, off I trott into Boots where I bought this mascara for roughly £10 give or take a pound! Packaging is great, gold and black always look glam and they had a "tester" brush on show so you could see what you would apply the mascara with. Granted, the brush looked good, the packaging was good, and the promo for it was fab... SOLD.
At home, I tried the mascara. It smelt ok (I know this is strange but I find some mascara's have a really strong smell!) and when I pulled the brush out of the tube there were no clumps. Applied to my lashes, I was slightly disappointed on first glance as although I applied a full stroke, I didn't feel I had much mascara on... So, on went another layer... still thinly spread, but I could see my lashes were separated nicely and yes, there did look a few more than usual!! I carried on adding layer by layer and gradually there were little 'mini clumps' forming towards the end of my eyelashes! Whilst they were definitely separated, I couldn't help but feel underwhelmed with the overall effect as I felt they weren't as long or as thick as I thought they would be...
Saying that, I personally did continue using this mascara for work as I felt it gave a more 'natural' look. However if I was going on a night out, I definitely wouldn't use this, as it just didn't have enough "umph" to give my eyelashes the boost they needed!
Was it worth it? I'd say yeah, give it a go - maybe if you don't like wearing much make-up. However, if you prefer to exaggerate your eyes more, I don't think this one would be the right one for you.
I have used Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish compact make up for the past 10 years now, and my mother and grandmother have used it for the majority of their lives too!
I'll start with my skin - I have fairly oily skin rather than dry, and have slightly pinker cheeks - so always feel the need to apply a little more make up to cover these otherwise I look like a rag doll! I've never had particularly bad skin, aside from the odd spot here and there...
The makeup - It comes in a handy compact case which opens like a book! There is a large mirror, and a place where your sponge sits and airs. The make up itself is like a creamy liquid foundation, which dries really nicely when applied - sort of like a powder, but without the awful dry/bitty powder effect! (I am not a powder fan, even though my skin is more oily). This foundation gives a varied coverage to suit each and every person differently. eg. You can make the coverage lighter by wetting the sponge slightly, or by keeping the sponge dry, get a fuller coverage.
I personally keep the sponge dry, and start from the middle of my face and work outwards - as I find the middle of my face usually needs a fuller coverage, i.e nose, cheeks, chin etc!! By the time you get to your hairline etc, I turn the sponge over and blend it as best I can!
I use this foundation first thing in the morning, and generally speaking, it lasts until tea time! The handy thing about this is that you can re-touch up as many times throughout the day as it blends really well and you have full control of how much you want on there!
This foundation usually lasts me a good couple of months, which I think for the price, is great! I've tried liquid foundations before and they literally last half the time...
I obviously can't say this foundation will suit everyone, but I think if you find the right shade for you, and you like the "dewy" and "natural" foundation look, you will like this! I will admit I have tried plenty of other foundations, as they all offer something new and exciting, but in all honesty, I come back to this every single time and always have one lying around in my bag... just incase!!
The colour range is good too. Not as broad as MAC for example, but have a general good selection. I usually wear Honey Beige day to day, and Toasy Beige in the evenings/summer when I have a bit of a tan!!
Overall, I would disagree that because it is a more 'oily' foundation than others that it brings you out in spots, as I genuinely think it would be different for everyone. I know loads of my friends have used this, and it's never brought on bad skin... if anything the opposite! Also, worth mentioning that my skin is VERY sensitive, especially to foundations and i've had a few experiences that weren't pleasant with other foundations. I must say, i've NEVER had any problems with this Elizabeth Arden and I will hand heart continue using this product!
Don't know what i'd do if they discontinued it!!! I would highly recommend that you try this if you are looking for a foundation where you can control the coverage. Ask for a tester in a shop, they usually have smaller versions available for you to try!! Good Luck :)
I was given this product as a present for Christmas, and I have to admit, it's not something I would have picked myself - as I am a non-believer when it comes to cellulite busters and toning creams...
But, ever the optimist, I thought i'd give it a go... after all, I have absolutely nothing to lose, except a bit of wobble perhaps!
The packaging is fine, but I was much more intrigued by the green, thick product that came out when I squeezed the tube!! Smells mint like, and is a green gel with a thick consistency. Apparently I need to use this for 56 days - so off I went!!
I applied in the morning after showering and applied to all my 'wobbly bits' including thighs, stomach and upper arms. The gel went on nicely, easy to rub in, and had a very soft texture. However, it did give off a nice tingle... but in Jan/Feb I would have liked a warming sensation as this did bring out the goosebumps... haha!! The gel did leave a sticky like residue on my skin, and I found myself trying to walk around to let it dry before dressing... usually 10 mins or so did the trick, but not ideal when you're trying to get ready for work!
I also tried to use this cream at night, as I thought may provide a benefit if I left it on over night?! It didn't.
Unfortunately, after using for well over a month.. must be about 40 days now, I can honestly say that apart from having softer skin, it's definitely no more 'tight' that original. There has been no toning whatsoever, and I really can't advise anyone to buy it other than for it's 'cooling' sensation.
Unfortunately I don't see the point in buying another tube as I really don't see how it would manage to change my appearance in another 2 weeks. A no go from me...
Ok, so I went from being a platinum blonde to being a dark brunette a couple of months ago! Years of bleaching and straightening my hair has left it dry and brittle, with the ends splitting!
During the process of going brunette (I decided to do this to try and get my hair healthy again) I went on a mad shopping spree to buy hair products that will 'save' my hair going forward as my aim is to grow it, and have cheryl cole like locks... ok well we can all dream...!!
First, I bought this Aussie spray as it was recommended to me by my hairdresser. She said my hair was thinner at the front due to straightening, and to buy this and spray on everyday before I dried, straightened, curled it etc. So, I bought it from boots in a deal! Initial thoughts were = Nice bottle and packaging, smells nice and sweet - sort of like bubblegum! And the price was decent compared to some of the other brands...
I washed my hair and towel dried, then followed the instructions on the bottle - spraying my hair and brushing through prior to drying. I've got to admit, I usually dry my fringe with a brush, then turn my head upside down to dry the rest... and this left my hair feeling very tangled and quite dry/crispy like! First impressions weren't great.... I felt like it made my hair drier and look dull...
So I tried it again a couple of days later. This time, I spent more time blow drying my hair, and concentrated on the ends.. I also used slightly less product, and sprayed mainly on the ends of my hair. This time, hair felt much better. Still slightly dry though, so I was disappointed. But it didn't make my hair tangled etc, and the smell was nice even after drying and straightening. Also, doesn't make your hair feel or look greasy - as i've had this problem with a few other ones before.
Overall, I don't think i'll rebuy until i've tried a few more different products as I do think it leaves my hair a little straw like... Like the smell and price, but product just isn't for me long term.
I received this body wash as a present at Christmas as many of my friends and family know I thoroughly enjoy smellies of all sorts!!
My first reaction was - 'they've given me a man's body wash - cheers'... The packaging doesn't resemble the usual 'girly' image that soap and glory portray, and this one was definitely no a chip off the old block.
The body wash was bright green, thick consistency with a strong smell. The ingredients are pretty strange and include mint, eucalyptus, thyme and chocolate!! Initially, I thought that I didn't like the smell, but actually, after a few whiffs, there is something quite nice and refreshing about it! I decided to give it a go in the shower, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised!
The mint in the shower gel means that you get the lovely 'clean' feeling on your skin. The soap itself hasn't got any particular dirt removing agents - not that I know of anyway, so I just presume you feel cleaner because of the mint!! It is easily dispensed through the bottle, and it seems to last a long itime (i've used it everyday since Christmas and still have over half the bottle left).
I haven't had any reactions or anything since using it, the only thing i'd say is that it's not the most moisturising of products, so i'd suggest using one of their creams afterwards! For the price, i'd say a pretty good buy just because it lasts so long! This may appeal to people who don't like the other soap and glory smell (the sweet one) as this one is definitely more 'earthy'!!!
I am a self-confessed make up enthusiast, and always end up trying the latest product to hit the shelves! After using various concealers, make-up and under eye cover-ups, I thought it couldn't hurt to try this one too as I've always quite liked Garnier products.
The packaging does the trick, eye catching and shows exactly what the product looks like! The actual stick itself is a good size, and fits well in your handbag! The roller ball at the top of the stick is made from a silver metal-like ball, which when touches your skin has a very cold feeling - cold but refreshing!!! I love putting this on first thing in the morning as it somehow seems to make my eyes feel more awake! I usually put my foundation on, then put this over the top. Blends in no problem, and doesn't "clump" which i've found some other similar products do.
The colour is light, and there seem to be some pigments in there too which help eliminate the black circles under most of our eyes!! Not 100% coverage, but what can you expect from the price?!
Smells nice, very easy to apply - I usually go over eyes at lunch time as a "booster" through the day!
Overall, I am happy with this product as I do think it helps eliminate the dark circles, and the actually product isn't too thin, or thick so looks very natural. Would recommend for 'busy' people as literally takes 30 seconds to apply and rub in!
I bought this butter from Boots as part of their 3 for 2 offer.
I must admit, I am quite fussy about body butters and have sworn by body shop butters for years... BUT... I absolutely love this butter as it smells lovely (quite sweet though so won't be everyone's cup of tea) and once you have rubbed it in, it leaves your skin lovely and soft, slightly shiny, but doesn't look oily and doesn't feel greasy.
It lasts all day, and since using it I feel like my skin has become much softer and supple. Plus, I think it's great after applying fake tan as it seems to overpower the scent of the fake tan! :)
Would highly recommend as for the price, is worth buying. The only thing i'd mention, is that it doesn't seem to last a long time.. especially if you cover your whole body in it!
