I bought the deep pink of this range to try as my first attempt with a lip stain. I've been longing to try one fr a long time but have never got round to it. I picked this one for £4.99 from in store at Boots. * Appearance The tube itself is hot pink and adorned with writing. It's a cheap feeling and cheap looking product but it's cute and good enough. I don't expect high quality luxe when I'm paying so little! It feels nice and solid in my hand and is easily grippable. The applicator itself is like a felt tip pen. It is shaped to be able to fill in large chunks of your lips but also to fit into the crevices and make sure your entire lips are painted. I like the applicator and its shape. * Quality As a low priced item I didn't expect the stain to be that great fr staying on, but it has surprised me with how durable it really is. My lips were still stained after a good six hours of wear. However, this is where my problems arose. As my lips were not all completely moisturised (there were some slightly dryer patches thy I was unaware of) I was left with streaky lips. The stain cling to the dryer areas darker than it did with the moisturised zones. I really hated the effect after long wear as my lips were all different shades. *Overall This lip stain applies well and is available in a good range of colours. It is durable and last for ages but you must have perfectly smooth lips for this to look at all good.
I received this Morgan perfume as a gift. It's a very cute little perfume bottle and is definitely targeted at the young/early teens market. It costs around £8, though I unsure if it is still available. * Appearance The bottle itself is curvy and quite flat. It features a small butterfly image with a diamanté adorned at the centre of the butterfly. The glass is of an ombre appearance, a gradients from clear to deep pink. I like this colour system as its rare to see such a type of glass. The spray top is a simple push down procedure. The entire top of the bottle accommodates the spray. It is if a similar pink to the bottle and blends quite seamlessly. The top is plastic. * Scent The one word that jumps out when smelling this perfume is 'sweet'. It's a flirty mix of candy, fruits and florals. Any women over the age of 18 will probably find this scent too girly and suitable toward early teens than themselves. It is not for a mature palette. However, I like the scent, despite not wanting to wear it, and have actually even using the scent sparingly as a room spray. * Quality The perfume is of quite low quality and does not last on the skin for very long. It is nice whilst it lasts though.
Vests are a staple of a summer wardrobe and so I purchased two from Matalan for £6. I picked a white and a black - very simple and easy to wear throughout summer with whatever trends and phases come and go. * Appearance I bought the size 10 of both vests and both fit well. I'd say the sizing is on point. The vest features a slightly curved neckline and doesn't reach too low. It sits just above the busy. The straps are lovely and thin and are of a good length - they neither dig in or look too loose. If you want a cleavage enhancing best I'd look elsewhere or at V neck styles. The shape follows a woman's body perfectly. * Quality As you expect from Matalan, the quality is not the best, but for such a cheap price it is hard to complain. I have worn and washed my vest six times now and it still looks brand new. The shape has not slackened and the colour has not faded. They are made of quite thin material though, so coloured bras under the white vest in particular are easily noticeable. * Overall Great staple vest at a very good price
I purchased this bag as a 'throw everything in and go' type of hand bag. I bought it with the main purpose of using it for university though it is definitely more suited to the beach and summer time activities. I bought it fr £8 from a Matalan store. * Appearance The bag features large navy and white stripes and is of a loose, floppy shape. It is large - easily fitting a4 documents in - and is of a longer length than height. The straps are made of a brown faux leather which seethes to the base of the bag (made of the same material). The base provides a good flat stab in which the bag can so without getting too filthy. Internally, the bag is lined with white cotton and features a large hard base strip which again supports the bag when sat upright. It features a couple of pockets, ideal for change or your phone. * Quality The bag is of moderately poor quality. It is light - which is good for a beach bag - but this is purely to do with the quality of the item. It looks like an inexpensive bag, which it is. I have amassed a few scuffs from placing it on the floor (it is white after all) and I do not mind this due to the cheap cost. * Overall Lightweight, pretty nautical beach bag, but not fabulous for durability or practicality.
I have extremely long hair (to the base of my back). It is pretty thick too. This means I need to have a real, sit down detangling session a couple of times a week. I bought this comb for around £3 with an additional £3 spent on postage and packaging. Not bad for a comb of this standard - I have paid much more for worse in the past. * The brush * The comb's teeth are quite spread apart which concerned me at first. I thought it would miss many knots and tiny tangles. But no! With fluid movements, and multiple strokes, it gradually teased out all my knots. I was very impressed. It is a wooden comb which I prefer to metal or shiny plastic varieties as it felt a more natural product. It was also nice to hold and looked like a quality product itself. Despite it being wooden, it was strong and solid and felt very robust. It was easily gripped and didn't slip or slide from my palm. * The result * My hair was left completely tangle and knot free after around five minutes of thorough combing. This may sound a long time to those of you with fine hair but rest assured this is a much shorter time than I am used to! My hair was left smooth, sleek and glossy. I was extremely happy and impressed with the sleekness of my hair. This is not just a comb for detangling though, it can be used everyday just to neaten up. A perfect all round hair tool.
I purchased this black peplum too from Topshop for £16. I bought the sleeveless version, though I am pretty certain there are long sleeves and short sleeves versions available too. If not on Topshop, try ASOS! *Quality* As always, Topshop quality is standard. It is neither great nor poor. This top in particular has quite a nice heavy feel to it which makes it feel more expensive than it is. The cotton is soft yet strong and is of a nice thickness. It does not shrink or manipulate in the wash. *Wearability* This too can be worn in any season. Due to the nature of the fabric, it can be warm in winter but breathable and cool in the summer season. The sleeveless style lends itself more to the summer, too. The black makes this top a perfect staple piece to wear around the clock - from the workplace to the bar. *Style* The peplum shape is a classic. It emphasises a small waist and highlights a womanly hour glass figure. It's very feminine, sexy and womanly without being overtly so. The style is of top marks. It is not a trend but a timeless piece. *Overall* - classic shape - good quality material - expensive compared to others available
I bought this for my brother as he recently purchased the 4S and is known for his clumsy behaviour, however I have ended up using it due to him purchasing his own case. I paid just under £2 for it, with a free screen protector included, from eBay. I also had free postage and packaging making it a very cheap buy. *Appearance and fit* The case fits perfectly on the 4S. It is slightly big, but I've yet to find a rubber silicone case that isn't. It needs a little room to allow you to stretch it over the edges. The colours are bold and bright. The texture is soft rubber and there are no sharp edges. All the shapes are perfectly cut and it does not look like such a low price item. The picture provided above is exactly as the item is. The Lego block look is quirky and unique but also helps in finding the case in your bag. It also provides extra grip when in your pocket (definitely a good things for boys, though not really relevant for me!). Due to the rubbery nature of the case, the phone has a degree of bounce when it hits the floor, so after a few falls no damage has been done. The case wraps around the back and the sides of the phone for ultimate protection. It also has cut outs allowing you easy access to all necessary functions. *Quality* Despite the price, the quality is good. It is exactly as expected. *Overall* My brother loves it!
Chapstick has somewhat of a cult-like beauty status. After the infamous Katy Perry hit in which she claimed to taste another's 'cherry Chapstick' the brand has got a youthful glow. But it is not all about scent (or taste!). Chapstick actually works. Now it's summer the air is hotter and skin can become tauter. This leads to many problems including chapped lips. My lips are of okay quality and are not severely chapped though do not look moisture rich. * Feel on lips The Chapstick feels super soft and nourishing on my lips. It is not too waxy or too thick, and instead melts only slightly when applied allowing for a nice amount of control. It makes my skin feel moisturised instantly and sinks into the skin as opposed to sitting on the surface. * Appearance of lips My lips look instantly nourished. After a few hours of se the Chapstick is not visible but my lips are feeling and looking healthy and nourished from the inside out. Just what I need. Chapstick is not a cosmetic product but is instead used as a delicious nourished of lips. For this purpose I award it full marks.
As the weather heats up I like to tone down my usually heavy perfume and opt instead for a lighter, fresher and easy to wear scent. I bought a range of Body Shop mists as part of a 'buy one get one half price' promotion they currently have on in store. The bottles cost under £8 each. *Bottle* The bottle is made of glass and had a lovely solid, heavy feel to it. This resonates the quality of the item. The glass is clear, allowing you to see the sweet red liquid within. Other mists in the collection vary in shades from orangey pink to grey. The labelling is neat, clean and simple. *Scent* For those with a penchant for strawberries, this body must really is fabulous. It is sweet, but not too sweet. It is fruity, but not fruity. It is light, but still distinctive. It is fresh and delicate yet holds long after initial application. It is ideal for all those who enjoy the rich, juicy freshness of strawberries. *Uses* In addition to being a great body mist and perfume, you can use this as a room and linen spray. You may also wish to use it like a scented bath oil and add a few drops into you steaming bath. The body shop prides itself in its ethics which makes this is a great guilt-free and conscious purchase.
In the summer months I prefer to wear a body mist as opposed to a heavy scent. I trade in my Thierry Mugler Womanity perfume for some form of lighter, more delicate spray. I bought a range of Body Shop body mists as part of a 'buy one get one half price' deal. They cost under £8 each. *Bottle* The bottle is solid glass and feels cold and quite heavy in your palm. I really like the quality of this item which is felt just by holding it. The glass is clear to allow you to see the coloured liquid within. This one is a gorgeous pinky orange, whilst others in the range vary from greys to reds. *Scent* This a lovely, uplifting and feminine smell. It is sweet, but not overly so. It does not smell particularly of cherries, but I am glad if this - I do not want to smell like a scratch and sniff! The scent is beautifully delicate and fresh. The body Shop prides itself on its ethics, making it a great guilt-free and conscious purchase. *Uses* In addition to the body and as a perfume, I used this as a room spray and linen spray. I imagine it can work within a bath too - just add a couple of drops to your steaming bath!
I bought this hairspray as I had a £10 Love2Shop voucher and wanted to spend the full amount (as they don't provide change if you don't spend the full amount). It was cheap at only £1.19 for 300 ml. I noticed they also have a smaller 75ml version for £0.79 - ideal for holidays. The hold - The spray itself has an average to good hold. It kept my hair in place relatively well, though there was of course some loss of fix over a few hours. I am quite sparse with my application of hairspray to avoid clumping hair, creating stickiness, creating a manufactured 'shine' and an overwhelming scent. I'd score the hold of the hairspray as 6/10, which is perfectly reasonable for the price. Sticky? - The spray was not sticky, though I can imagine if you use a lot of it there may be a build up of product which in turn will make the hair tacky to touch. The scent - For me, this is the let-down aspect of the product. I really am not keen on the scent, and it is quite strong. I found myself having to apply additional perfume to mask the scent of my hairspray. I understand all hairsprays have a scent, but this, for me, was quite unpleasant. Over all - It didn't enhance my hair in any way. It didn't add shine, moisture or nourishment. But for a low price, it did the job it intended and I don't really demand that such a cheap product do much more than it says on the tin.
I have a lot of Simple products as I have particularly sensitive skin. For Christmas I recieved this shower gel and the handwash. It costs around £3 online and instore, and is available at the standard cosmetic / bath / beauty stores and many major supermarkets. APPEARANCE The bottle itself feels nice and solid. It's transparent so you can see the bluey green colour of the gel within. The Simple way of doing things is to have pretty much the exact same label on EVERY product - and they've not failed here. The label is very similar to the one that is used on all their other products - I'd advise looking for the bottle as opposed to the label! The bottle does look nice, though. It feels and looks sturdy and looks fresh in my bathroom. THE GEL Now, I understand that mint is a fresh scent, but I don't like it on my skin. I want it in my mouth! Toothpaste and chewing gum only! Aside from this, the gel works well. It lathers fairly well with water and loofah, and left my skin feeling particularly clean. I'd advise using a body moisturiser or butter after showering to retain moisture however, as this has no moisturising properties. OVERALL Not to my taste - I prefer a more moisturising shower gel with a lush, luxurious scent. Still, I can understand that some may find this appealing.
I've had this album for a long, long time but have just rediscovered it. I remember I wasn't all that taken with it at first, and I found the songs to be very repetitive. Now, however, I have a completely different perspective. It's currently £8 in HMV but will of course be less online and for digital copies (available on amazon, iTunes and all other respected download sites). THE CASE The album case itself is a piece of art itself. It's made of sustainable cardboard and features a gloriously whimsical image of two of the band's members by the sea. Their is an additional leaflet which is concealed within the front cover which folds out to be a lovely poster, amde form the same high quality sustainable paper. A very organic and beautiful presentation which matches the band well. THE SONGS The genre of MGMT is hard to define - an indie, rock, pop, folk, fantasy if you will. Of course, there are the favouties - KIDS is one of their most known songs, and ELECTRIC FEEL, too. These are definitely 'singles' tracks (made for specific release as a single), whilst the rest of the album has more flow as a whole. PIECES OF WHAT is a great 'campfire' track, perfect for hazy summer evenings, whilst The Handshake has a great 'anthem' feel with chanting towards the end. WEEKEND WARS is a nice, simple song to listen to and compliments the entire album. There's something 'easy listening' about this album, despite it being incredibly raw and touching. The last four tracks on the album have been on repeat on my iPod/ iPhone. They blend seamlessly and are beautifully inspiring and intriguing. The whole album is easy to listen to but has an edge that makes it stand out. It's very unexpainable! If you like Foster The People you will love this!
I am completely in love with the entire range of Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula products, but this lipbalm is a particular favourite and a definite stand-out product. It cost me around £1 on sale, though is usually about £1.60 and is available from the usual cosmetics and beauty stores and supermarkets. APPEARANCE The lipbalm is in a white and blue tube which matches the entire range of Cocoa Butter products. It's simple, neat and discrete, though a little old fashioned. I don't mind this though as it has a nice rustic feel to it, and isn't trying to be something it's not. The lipbalm itself is an off-white, which is invisible (apart from the shine of nourishment) on the lips. DOES IT WORK? YES! This is the best lipbalm I have tried (and I've tried many - including Vaseline, Chapstick etc etc). It smells divine, with that iconic and classic cocoa butter scent. It nourishes lips and retains moisture, and lasts for a long time. I put mine on before I sleep and I can feel the difference in the morning - it works quickly and effectively, providing gorgeous nourishment and moisturisation for chapped lips. I wouldn't switch to any other balm! OVERALL * Simple packaging * Smells divine * Nourishes lips * Moisturises lips
I'd not tried Soap & Glory make up before this product. I associate the brand more with bath and body care than with cosmetics, so was looking forward to trying this, though was a little sceptical. I received this mascara as part of a Soap & Glory set (RRP £60) but found it online at Boots for £10 (currently £7 in the sale if you're quick!). APPEARANCE - TUBE & BRUSH The mascara tube is black and features pink lettering. It's not my favourite colour combination ever (very teen orientated in my opinion), but works. The tube is very simple, though the font used creates a fun, youthful feel to the product - matching the teen-y colours. The brush head is wide at the base, gradually working to a point at the end. At it's fullest, the brush is very nice and thick. This usually allows you to get thicker looking lashes as more product can be applied with one stroke. The tip is useful for getting harder to reach, short lashes (such as the corners). EFFECT ON LASHES The mascara coats lashes well. The consistency is quite thick, but not gloopy. I've only been using this mascara for a few days, but have found it to make my lashes look thick, lush and full. It has not started drying out (but shouldn't after a few days!), and the brush seems to hold a good amount - not too much, and definitely not too little. This is definitely a mascara for impact and effect - if you're looking for something subtle, this is definitely not for you! Perfect for parties, or just for those of you who love defined eyes. DURABILITY My mascara lasts all day - though is easily removed with a Simple make up wipe. There's a lot of product in each stroke, however, so you may get panda eyes as you remove it! I found there was a little 'flakiness' to the mascara and each night I had a few specks of dried mascara under my eyes - but nothing that other mascara hasn't given me before. OVERALL * Youthful, fun appearance * Long-lasting * Creates thick, lush, full-looking lashes * Not good for a natural-looking effect I've tried better (Max Factor False Lash Effect), but I've certainly tried worse!
