      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A difficult condition which can be controlled to a certain extent.

      - ASTHMA -

Asthma is a debilitating condition, and you should be aware of the symptoms to correctly diagnose it. Asthma affects approximately 20 million people in the United States alone, and identifying the condition is intrinsic to learning how to handle it effectively.

I have suffered with asthma since quite a young age and I, in turn have handed it down to my youngest child. Asthma is hereditary as is, migraine, hayfever and eczema. They are of the same family and they are all inter-related. Learning to cope with asthma is half the battle.

Asthma can start at time, and any age. The symptoms of asthma are easily recognisable, and if you are in any doubt at all as to whether you are suffering from asthma or not, you should consult your medical practitioner immediately. As with any medical conditions the degree of asthma can be mild, moderate or severe, and in extreme cases can be fatal. So this is a condition that should not be ignored just because you feel your symptoms are not affecting the running of your life.

Mild asthma could possibly develop into severe asthma if left untreated, and can cause irreparable damage to the airways. Asthma is hereditary so if anyone in your family has any of the interrelated conditions of asthma, such as, eczema, migraine, of hay fever you could be at risk.

      - THE SYMPTOMS OF ASTHMA -

Wheezing Shortness of breath Coughing And a tightness in the chest. You will find that the symptoms may be worsened at night due to the laying down where the mucous will form on your chest. This is a result of the airways becoming inflamed and irritated, and this in turn will produce extra mucus and cause the airways to become narrower. So if you feel you have any of these symptoms you should get them checked out straight away.

      - THE CAUSES OF ASTHMA -

First and foremost asthma is hereditary so this may answer your question immediately. An infection such as flu or a cold can trigger it also. Some of the most common triggers are smoking, airborne pollens, house dust mite, pet hair, fur, feathers, chemicals, particularly the ones in household aerosols, as the gases contained within these sprays can aggravate the airways. Also irritants such as cigarette smoke, fumes, and dust. Excercise, particularly in cold weather. Even emotions such as laughing, crying, and stress can bring on an attack.

      - TREATMENTS FOR ASTHMA -

When you go to your doctor he will discuss with you what you think has triggered the asthma, and he will try to identify the cause. You will then be asked to blow into a peak flow metor, and this will indicate how much breath you can expel, which will show the severity of your current condition. You will try best of three and the doctor will take the average from this.

You will be given a peak flow meter to take home and record in a diary your peak flow strength day and night for a given period of time. So that when you return to the doctor they will be able to see how your asthma is doing.

The treatment for asthma starts with a preventative, and this will normally be given in a form of a preventer inhaler such as Becatide. Taken over time this will help to control your asthma so that the frequency that you have to take your reliever should be lessened.

The preventer and the reliever will normally be given to you in puffer' form which contains a gas which will direct a correct measured dose to your airways. In more serious cases you will be put on a short course of steroids such as prednisolone to bring your asthma to a more acceptable level.

In the most severe case, you may be have to go to hospital where you will be put on a nebuliser which delivers a mist of water and asthma medicine which you breathe in. The nebuliser will deliver more of the drug directly to where it's needed and this method is more effective and immediate than conventional inhalers. You may even be required to keep a nebuliser at home depending on the seriousness of your condition.

Depending on the severity of your asthma you will be given a course of treatment that is tailored to your needs. Asthma can stop and start at any time, so don't be fooled into thinking it has gone for good. Asthma is incurable and as such should be treated as an ongoing condition.

Preventing and controlling at all times will establish a routine which will enable you to live a normal life. Basically, Identifying and avoiding the things that trigger your asthma are an essential step, and avoidance to these main triggers will help to keep your asthma under control.-

My experience of asthma has not been a major drawback to my everyday life. The drugs have controlled it to an acceptable level. There are certain times of year when it becomes worse, such as winter and summer. The extremes in weather heighten the symptoms and cold and flu can make it quite severe.

The main thing is, to stick with the drugs which are prescribed and to make them a routine part of your life. They keep the asthma under control and help alleviate the harsh coughing which is associated with asthma that can be very damaging to the lungs.

To be as asthmatic is something that is always there. It can go away for long periods but it can return unexpectedly. Accepting this and continuing with the prescribed medicines is all important to keeping the asthma under control. -

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Great products and a simple and easy to navigate site

        - BENEFIT COSMETICS WEBSITE -

        http://www.benefitcosmetics.co.uk

I love Benefit Cosmetics, I really do. Everything from their fun and funky product image to the imagination grabbing names that Benefit the brand apply to said products. Benefits retro and kitsch packaging with the 50's artwork upon lends much to the brand's success.Their product image is designed to appeal to the young and trendy with more than just a little disposable income.

Benefit products do not come cheap. They are not an 'impulse' buy. Their price tags somehow make them more desirable to own, for me and they are not the kind of products that are normally bought on a whim. At the prices that they are, they need more than a moments thought, making it more pleasurable when you do eventually purchase and own them. Benefit Cosmetics are definitely luxury make-up products which are a delight to own and fantastic fun to use.

At BUH-BUYS you can buy certain products at knock down prices. So it is a good chance to stock up on these if any of these products happen to be your particular favourites.

There are quizzes and much more here.

The Homepage is predominately pink and white and very girly; depicting everything that Cosmetics stand for. The art and act of applying make-up is a highly pleasurable experience prior to going out and is an important part of the excitement and build-up to a woman's night out. Benefit Cosmetics seem to make this process more enjoyable for me as their products are such fun to own and use.

Featured on the Homepage are a selection of their popular products and seasonal gift sets. Benefit invites you to open an account from which there appear to be a few bonuses. They offer a limited edition beauty lesson on how to apply a particular make-up product and the different effects that can be achieved.

        ~ Gift Me Gorgeous ~

Gift Me Gorgeous is their holiday gift guide. They offer Stocking Stuffers Party Pleasers Gilded Gals Top Sellers and Wrapped and Ready from their free wrapping service.

        ~ Prices ~

I like the way they have split their sections up into prices. So whatever you are willing to pay, just click on the chosen pricing to bring up the selection of products.

        ~ Free Catalogue ~

Benefit offers a free catalogue which you can apply for on the site via email. The full colour brochure lists all the delicious Benefit Items that are current today. I find their range has really evolved from the early days and there is so much I want to purchase from their vast and exciting cosmetic range.

Benefit are happy to refund a full purchase price if the goods are not used to more than 20% of the total value and they supply an address for the return of the product.

        ~ My Opinion ~

I like the site. I found it very easy to navigate around, with pages that were fast loading and a lay-out that was very clear to the eye. This is a very simple site, design wise and I find that these work the best. It is not interactive and there are no flashing objects to distract the eye. Everything was clearly placed and nicely pictured.

The pages were not cluttered and products and information was very easy to find. I feel the delivery charge is high and I think it would put some people off buying from the site. After all you could just walk into a Benefit Boutique and be able to see and handle the item which some people find far more preferable.

It's a good fun site that you could spend half an hour or so looking around. The products are great. There are very few Benefit products that I don't like. They are all very kitsch and funky and make me want to own them. The site is good for taking a look at the products and for a product price guide. If you are putting in a bulk order then I feel the delivery charge would be justified. Other than that I felt that the Benefit Cosmetic Website was colourful, clear and a whole lot of fun. -

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

A great product with no apparent disadvantagess

          - Beverly Hills Formula - Sensitive - Natural White Maximum Strength -

Beverly Hills Formula is whitening toothpaste which claims to remove 90% of tooth staining. Being a sensitive toothpaste it is suitable for people who suffer with teeth and gums which are prone to tingling, pain and soreness which would suffer from a stronger blend of toothpaste. The makers claim the toothpaste to be 'Sensitive' along with Maximum strength. Presumably the 'Maximum Strength' is describing the cleaning and whitening effect that you can attain from using Beverly Hills Formula Sensitive on a regular basis. -

The product is contained within an eye-catching large size, silver and white box, which stands out amongst the many other brands of toothpastes for sale upon the shelves. It states that this formula is 'Low Abrasion' and will give the teeth a 'Natural White' effect; claiming to be extra gentle whilst effectively protecting against tartar build-up. It will also give the mouth a fresher breath after using.

Beverly Hills Formula offers a fast acting cleansing and long lasting guard for sensitive teeth. Its promised whitening properties can be noticed after using the toothpaste for just a few days. The effect is very gradual, but if brushing your teeth with Beverly Hills Formula, day and night you should notice that your teeth are considerably whiter after about three days; I did.

Its extra gentle formula doesn't leave that sharp, burning sensation within the mouth that you can experience with full strength toothpaste. The taste of the Beverly Hills toothpaste is of a spearmint flavour. It smells like peppermint but tastes of spearmint; which I like. I don't like a strong tasting toothpaste that leaves a sharp after taste. So this suits me fine. It also promises complete protection against plaque and tartar build up.

The actual toothpaste is not as thick a consistency as some of the other brands of toothpaste. But it seems to do a good job of cleaning the teeth just fine. The after taste is of a pleasant spearmint flavour and the teeth feel well cleaned. You do not need a huge amount of the toothpaste, covering about half the length of the toothbrush is sufficient to ensure thorough cleaning. I have experienced no tingling or sensitivity to my teeth or gums when using the Beverly Hills Formula. It really is quite a mild strength which does deliver effective cleaning.

The tube I purchased is quite large, being 125ml/165g and once opened it should be used within 12 months. The price was just over £2.00 from Tesco, which is an excellent price considering a tube of Rembrandt whitening toothpaste will set you back nearly £8.00. Rembrandt is an excellent whitener but given the price difference, I feel that Beverly Hills is a far better deal.

The toothpaste's formula is gentle on the enamel of the teeth and it contains ingredients which relieve the discomfort of tooth and gum pain sensitivity. It also is an effective deterrent to plaque and tartar build up to the teeth. It is gentle formula also which whitens the teeth well without any abrasive qualities within the toothpaste and it also leaves your breath fresh and your teeth feeling thoroughly cleaned.

          - Ingredients -
          Aqua - Sorbitol - Hydrated Silica - Xylitol - Potassium - Citrate - Glycerin - Pentasodium - Triphosphate - Sodium Bicarbinate - Sodium Laurel Sulfate - Aroma - Cellulose Gum - Sodium Monofluorophosphate - Sodium Saccharin - Limocene - CI 77891.

The box carries a guarantee. So if you are not satisfied with the product for some reason, you will receive a full purchase price refund; can't say fairer than that.

          - Summary -

Beverly Hills Formula is a very good whitening and cleaning sensitive formula toothpaste. I saw results on the whiteness of my teeth after just a few days and noticed my gums were pinker also. I love the flavour of the toothpaste and I found the spearmint taste quite pleasant. It is also gentle enough to be be used every day. The price was very good at just over £2 for a large tube. I would also recommend this toothpaste to smokers as it does remove the staining on the teeth quite well. I would say that Beverly Hills Whitening is an all round excellent product that does what it says on the box. -

Information on the Exotic Sugar Glider

~ The Perfect Pet You Can Place In Your Palm? ~

These tiny pets are highly in demand at the moment. But should we be encouraging the breeders in the supply and demand of the Exotic Sugar Glider? Delicate and extremely demanding I worry that these creatures are doomed to a very ugly fate. In the short term they are highly desirable. But in reality they need a huge amount of caring for.

Another short lived trend I feel and the future of the Sugar Glider as a domestic pet seemed doomed to failure. ~

            ~ What is a Sugar Glider? ~

The sugar Glider (petarurus briviceps), is taking the world by storm as the new 'Must have' domestic pet. But what on earth is a Sugar Glider you might ask?

Well, the Sugar Glider is the most beautiful and unusual pet to be seen in quite a while. It's actually a small possum with the added bonus that it can fly! Well, glide actually, and it has the power to launch itself and glide for a good 200 feet. Quite a sight to be seen bombing around the house and a very novel domestic pet indeed. A great talking point with yours neighbours and visitors also.

~The Latest Must Have Accessory ~

Celebrities are queuing up for these 'must have' pets, and many are seen sporting a pair of these nuzzled into their necks in pouches, whilst out shopping. Paris Hilton had one, but in certain states of the USA these creatures as 'Exotic pets', are banned, and she had to ditch her latest 'fashion accessory' fast, for a more suitable designer handbag.

'Everyone' who is 'anyone' is after one of these divine and beautiful creatures. However, they do need very careful and sensitive owners, as these babies are so tiny that they fit into the palm of your hand. They will give you absolute loyalty and devotion if treated right. All they ask in return is to love and be loved, and by loved, I mean lots of it. These creatures will not thrive without constant attention and loving, and can die of depression and loneliness if they are at all neglected. The normal life span for the Sugar Glider is around 10-15 years, so you are in for the long haul, and with the right handling and attention to diet and nurture, these creatures will make an excellent and loyal companion.

~The Animals Come In, Two by Two ~

Be warned, that you must buy the Sugar Glider in pairs. They would simply not thrive without a companion, and be terribly lonely and sad, and this will set you back £300 as the Gliders are roughly £150 each. 'The Sugar Gliders measure 16cm to 21cm (6.3ins to 7.5ins) in length, with a tail almost as long as the body and almost as thick as a human thumb, and they weigh between 90g and 150g (3oz to 5.3oz)'.

The Sugar Glider is actually a marsupial, a species of small flying possum which is native to Australia and New Guinea. In appearance, the Sugar Glider is adorable. They have large appealing brown eyes and are a fluffy silver grey in colouring, with a white furry belly. They have a black stripe which runs from the top of their head to the tip of their tails. Their 'wings', for want of a better word, is actually a stretchy membrane called a Patagium which spans straight across their backs to their wrists and ankles, which they then extend into a kite for launching themselves into a glide, much like a flying squirrel with their legs and arms extended, using their tail, which is as long as their body, as a rudder.

In the wild, this action is used for flying between trees. The Sugar Gliders live in colonies of between 6-10 in their natural habitat and their daily routine would be spent searching for food.

            ~The Glide ~

The actual glide can be up to 200 feet so be ready to duck if you see the sugar glider heading straight at you. Before they commence 'the glide' you will notice the creature swaying from side to side. Don't worry; it is just getting its bearings before it takes off. Their temperament is lively and inquisitive and they are also highly intelligent. Their normal behaviour includes climbing up the curtains, cheeping excitedly and general nosiness and noisiness. They also love their 'playtime' with their owners and like nothing better than a good game of 'Hide and Seek'. They also love climbing, hence the curtain activity and swinging. So it may be a good idea to put some form of net up,which will be great fun to watch as they scoot up the netting.

            ~The Bonding Process ~

When you first purchase your Sugar Glider you must immediately begin the 'bonding process, much like you would do with a baby. You can purchase a glider pouch, or make your own, which you will place the glider in and nuzzle it into your neck for long periods. The glider will get used to your scent and it will form a strong, lasting bond with you. The bonding process can take up to three months and in this time they will be happy to sit on you shoulder, or remain in the pouch, as you go about your daily routine. They love to curl up in their owner's hair or nuzzle into the warmth of their necks and shoulders.

The Sugar Glider is a nocturnal creature which some feel make it an ideal pet. Most people are at work during the day and feel that they can devote more time to the glider after 6'o'clock when the working day ends. These Gliders do 'bark' a lot and it will usually occur in the dead of night. So positioning of their cage is worth a good deal of thought. It certainly wouldn't be suitable in your bedroom, as they would keep you awake all night.

            ~The Sugar Glider Diet ~

Breeders across the Country are a little concerned that people would not know what they are letting themselves in for when purchasing a Sugar Glider. These creatures are very needy and do need lots of love and attention and very careful consideration to diet. The Sugar Glider has a very sweet tooth, hence its name, and it feeds on fruit, vegetables and 'leadbeaters', which is a mixture of baby cereal, honey, warm water, nutria bars, vitamin supplements and boiled eggs. It is essential that Gliders get a 75 per cent fruit and 25 per cent protein diet. Not adhering to this could be fatal. Also keep their diet low in fat as this is extremely important. A great site that recommends correct diet for the Sugar Glider is: AmeyZoo Exotic Pets.co.uk

Your Sugar gliders will need a large cage much like an aviary, and in this there needs to be lots of places to hide. You can fill the cage with tubes boxes and such like, so that the glider can hide and sleep in comfort and seclusion during the day. A nesting box is ideal and this should be placed well away from sunlight. These creatures are very sensitive to sunlight so be aware of this when placing their cage. By night they will want to glide so that they can exercise and explore their territory.

When taking on a creature such as the sugar glider, be aware that this is a wild animal and cannot be contained within the cage 24 hours a day. They need their freedom and they need to receive the love they crave from their owners. Without constant attention, the Sugar Glider can become severely depressed, and can often die from sheer loneliness! They need to be nurtured and given lots of constant TLC.

~The Vocal Qualities Of The Sugar Glider ~

These creatures are absolutely lovely, and very cute, but they are also very vocal. The noises that you will hear from your Sugar Gliders are of a loud barking and chirping nature. The chirping is when they are happy or excited and the barking is for attention it is thought, much like a baby when it cries. They also omit a mechanical whirring noise much like a blender, and this is to warn you off, and occurs usually when they are feeding, or when they feel threatened. This sound is referred to as 'crabbing'. They also 'purr' and sing' and hiss! They remind me of a Furby for their sounds. So all in all, these creatures do seem very entertaining indeed.

            ~Please Think Carefully ~

So, if you are contemplating buying a pair of Sugar Gliders please do your research and think carefully. There is already strong feeling that these pets will soon outgrow their novelty value and become a trend which will have a short life, and thousands of these poor creatures will be given up and left at the wayside as they are simply too much trouble and high maintenence.

The Sugar Glider bonds for life and giving up on him could quite possibly result in their severe depression and ultimately their death. This is after all a wild animal, and in Australia where they originate from, Sugar Gliders are forbidden to be kept as household pets.

So this cute little marsupial, in the female case, with its Joey pouch, needs careful thought and consideration before you embark into a 10-15 year relationship with it. Like all exotic pets, I'm not so sure at all that we should be taking these creatures from their natural habitat, and placing them in the confines of a domestic home. - Only time will tell.

A Sugar Glider is for Life - Not just for Christmas! and certainly not just a whim of fancy.-

              -0-SWEET AND TASTY-0-

Tesco offer a brilliant range of products all under one roof and apart from their vast variety they also offer a 'Value' range of products. These are distinguishable by their basic red and white packaging. They really are very good in the main and some better than others. I find the price of Plum tomatoes and chopped Italian tomatoes has soared in recent years and these were the kinds that I used to buy. I adore tin tomatoes. In fact I like them better than fresh. Tesco offer a quite adequate tin tomato variety from their basic range at a really competitive price.

Tinned tomatoes are so useful in a whole range of dishes. Including Spaghetti Bolognese, chilli con Carne, shepherds pie, and so on. In fact any meal that benefits from the flavour of tomato. I particularly like the chopped tomato option as it saves the need for chopping into sections and this saves time when cooking a meal. I love the flavour of tomato and it compliments so many foods. So with the Tesco 'Value' chopped tomato I find it suits perfectly and I keep a good stock of the 'Plum' and the chopped variety in my cupboard. I cook a lot of pasta recipes and these tomatoes are an invaluable ingredient particularly with the pasta.

-0- TESCO VALUE CHOPPED TOMATOES -0-

These come in the familiar read and white value tin which states at the top 'Tesco Value' and these can be found in the tinned food aisle close to the Baked Beans. The tin is very basic looking though quite colourful, with a picture of the chopped tomatoes upon the front. The product is sitting in tomato juice and there is a good amount within the tin of 400g. These are vegetarian friendly and the calorie content is 34. With canned food it is best if storing in the fridge once opened, to remove contents from the can and store in a container or bowl. The product contains NO NUTS and is made in a factory without nuts though Tesco cannot guarantee that this product is nut free! Tesco recommends that you gently simmer this product for 4 minutes and do not allow to boil when cooking.-

I think the 'Value' range is great! I think the prices are excellent and if I can save a few pennies here and there...Why not! The tinned tomatoes are particularly good as opposed to the baked beans which I find are quite watery. I would wholeheartedly recommend Tesco Value chopped tomatoes to all. They are perfect in so many dishes and the can content is very good. These may not be 'Top' of the range, but they are ideal to include within our food. The flavour of the tomatoes is very nice and the pieces are a perfect size to use in a variety of dishes. Excellent value and a great food to keep handy in the stock cupboard.-

                'Simple, Honest, Goodness'

"In a complicated world it's great to know there's something simple. Shredded Wheat is made from just one ingredient - Whole Grain Wheat. Nothing more. Nothing extra. No added anything! So you know you're getting a cereal that helps you care for your body and your heart.* Looking after yourself for the future couldn't be easier. People with healthy hearts tend to eat more whole grain foods as part of a low fat diet and healthy lifestyle".

Shredded wheat is a hugely popular breakfast cereal. It's one of the standard British breakfast foods along with Weetabix, Shreddies, Corn flakes and Frosties. We really do have a great selection to choose from when we enter a Supermarket. The displays are full of all kinds of Cereals that promise this and that to us. I would say that Shredded Wheat is possibly one of my favourites when deciding which one to choose. The experts recommend that we eat at least 48g of wholegrain per day to supply our bodies with the correct amounts. So by eating the package with the 2 Shredded Wheat in, we are giving our bodies the correct wholegrain GDA amount.

Whole grains are very important to our health and Shredded Wheat provides this in these tasty fun cereal blocks. It's a bit like eating straw with Shredded Wheat and that is the aspect that I find fun with this food. 'Shredded Wheat has been around for over 100 years, and is still made from just 100% wholegrain wheat'. The texture of it is great and I find the eating of it very satisfying. I find it a good start to the day and if I'm not having toast and fruit I will quite happily eat this on its own with milk as a good sustainer until lunchtime.

The product is housed in the unmistakeable sunny yellow tall box with the Shredded Wheat written inside a large heart. My size has 16 'biscuits', as Nestles call them, wrapped in twos which is a very good idea for keeping the product nice and fresh and this portion of two will deliver 100% of your daily wholegrain. Two biscuits equate to 217 calories and the packet bears the stamp of the British Red Tractor and meets the standards that the Shredded Wheat is sourced from British Farms and meets the 'Assured Foods Standards' also.

Shredded Wheat is a great breakfast food. It is fun to eat and I like the way that the 'biscuits' are shaped and seamed. It makes the eating of this breakfast cereal fun as well as satisfying and they certainly do fill you up well. Shredded Wheat is completely natural in substance and you can taste this goodness as you are eating them. No added sugar or salt or preservatives, just 100% good British Wheat. If this large size is too big for you, they also come in the convenient 'Bite Size' also.-

The 16 biscuit size of Shredded Wheat is £1.47 and the 30 biscuit size is £2.16 from Tesco. -

A great film full of fantasy.

                  --AMELIE--

Amelie or Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie Poulain was released in 2001. Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Delicatessen) and Starring Audrey Tautou (Venus Beauty) Actor and Director, Mathieu Kassovitz, and Dominique Pinon. - French Language Film. - Genre: Drama/Comedy/Romance - BBFC Rating: 15 - Running Time: 122 Minutes.-

Amelie is the story of an introverted and isolated eight year old only child whose father is a Doctor. The beginning of the film is set in Monmartre, Paris in 1973. Whilst doing his monthly health check on Amelie, her father puts the stethoscope to her chest and he hears her heart beating wildly. He quickly surmises that she is suffering from a heart defect. When in fact all that is the matter, is that Amelie gets quite anxious during the examination and this makes her heart beat faster. With the discovery of her 'Heart Problem' her father makes the decision to take her out of school and let her mother, who is a schoolmistress, give their daughter her education at home. This further plunges Amelie into her own little world, full of fantasy and strange imagined scenarios.

She leads a lonely and sheltered existence and is not allowed to play with other children at any time. She withdraws more and more inside herself where she invents in her mind all kinds of strange fantasies. These include ordinary people taking on major importance and strange roles in life. She is highly imaginative, with a fascination of people whom she often studies in great detail. She bides her time skimming pebbles and taking joy from life's small pleasures and cannot wait to grow up and leave her imposed family imprisonment, in exile, in which she has only her suicidal goldfish, Blubber, for company.

When Amelie is grown she sets herself up in a cosy little flat in the centre of town and gets a job as a waitress in the 'Two Windmills Café'. One night, described by Amelie, as that fateful night, it is announced on the television the Princess Diana has died. Amelie is in the bathroom and drops the lid of her toothpaste in shock at the news. As she stoops to pick up the lid she notices a tile that protrudes from the wall further than the others. She pulls it out and reaches into the space behind, where she finds an old rusty tin containing someone's childhood memories which consisted of some old tin cars, cigarette cards and a photo of a young man. There and then Amelie decides to make it her mission in life to find the owner of the tin who lived in her flat 40 years previously. She sees it as a great adventure and also the fact that she would be performing an act of kindness in reconciling the owner, with his beloved tin full of childhood memories. -

Amelie's mother had died when a woman threw herself from a high building and she was completely flattened by the falling tourist; consequently her father now lives alone in the family house. He has become very absorbed with a huge, colourful garden gnome that he was presented with on his retirement from the Spa. He polishes it and admires it constantly; as it had been kept in the garden shed his whole married life as his wife couldn't stand the sight of it. Amelie sees her father's enjoyment of life slipping slowly away, without any real joy or pleasure being gained from it. She tells him he should travel the world. Something he had always wanted to do. But he drags his heels and watches the clock. Amelie, however has great plans for the garden gnome which just might lift her father out of his lethargic rut. -

Amelie is a quaint and charming French film. A modern day fairy tale if you like. A fable; a film with a moral. It is set in the atmospheric quarter of Monmartre and it is full of wonderful studied characters. Amelie cuts an odd figure with her willowy body set off by a stark short haircut to her black hair and huge black clumpy boots upon her feet. Her brown eyes are large, bewildered and doe like as she watches and invents imaginary lives for the ordinary people that she studies. This is a strange little film that improves by the second and fast draws you in to its fantasy environment. This basically is a tale of a cross section of people who Amelie comes into contact with and there is an element of doing 'good unto others' and 'bad unto the bad'. Her life and decisions affects the actions of others, as she plots revenge against the unjust and heals and helps people that she thinks are in need. There is a comedy thread running through the film, gentle comedy which works brilliantly. The thing that really stood out for me, apart from the excellent, original storyline was the character studies which seal the deal with this film. French films always get this right and I find them a joy to watch because of this attention to fine detail within the characters.

Amelie is narrated throughout in the form of a fairy tale with a male voice which is full of enchantment and anticipation as to what the unpredictable Amelie will do next. The moral and message here is time and movement of time. There is much reference visually and spoken about time moving on and lives going quickly. There are huge clocks ticking and small alarm clocks ringing and many images of the clock faces throughout, basically, the film is telling us that life is short and to grab each adventure and every experience without fear or compromise and in Amelie's case, don't let the man that you love never know that fact because you are too shy and scared to tell him. It is definitely a 'Feel good' film and after watching I was left with a warm glow. At first I nearly gave up on it. Don't! Because within minutes it 'will' hold your attention. Obviously the director had to create the atmosphere and set the scene before plunging us into a very unusual film and create it he did, wonderfully. Hugely atmospheric that it took me straight into the very core of the film. There is a lot of attention to the various characters and why they are as they are which brings an all rounded feel and a good basis for understanding what the film is portraying.

Amelie is a nigh on perfect film. Lovingly assembled and a carefully woven tapestry of life, and I found it totally enchanting! The casting was wonderful and the performances were superb. The music and cinematography were excellent. Amelie is a beautifully shot modern day fairytale. A breathtaking voyage into a delightfully French tale of doing good unto others. An uplifting and beautiful film about the people whose lives were saved from despair by a shy and compassionate girl called Amelie.-

It includes cleverly designed 7-in-1 wands plus bubble guns and blowers, giant wands and motorised machines incorporating favourite Disney characters such as Nemo, Buzz Lightyear and Disney Princesses'.

Bubbles are great fun! I love them. I think it is the child in me and this type of product always makes me smile. Bubbles are so pretty and light and entirely elusive. As soon as you catch them in your hand they pop! I love the rainbow effect upon the bubble which is caused by the detergent, it gives them an almost magical quality. It puts me in mind of fairies and childhood things.

My cats have their own Catnip bubbles and I have Gazillion for when I want the child brought out of me. I can have a fun filled half hour mindlessly blowing the bubbles high into the air and watching in delight as they float weightlessly to the ground. Its just pure escapism and I enjoy the act of blowing them :)

The bubbles come in a clear, plastic ridged bottle with raised bubbles moulded upon the front. The bubble liquid is lime green and the bottle states that Gazillion are 'The Worlds Best Bubbles'. The weight is 57.5ml (2oz) and they come supplied with a wand with seven varying shape holes for the different size bubbles. Gazillion claim that "you will run out of breath before you run out of bubbles". They also state that this solution is a 'non staining' formula. They are bright and colourful and have a ring top for easy carrying.

I have never lost my sense of fun and for me bubbles are a great way of relaxing for a moment and just unleashing the child in you. They are inexpensive. They don't stain or ring furniture or fabric and the bottle lasts a long while. All in all, a fun activity that will bring a smile to your face : )

Carpets are probably a bit 'Old School' now, but I am sure some of us still have them. I myself have wooden floors but I do have large rugs to add cosiness. They can get a bit 'musty' every now and then and I also have cats which don't help with their shedding of hair. Summer is a great time for extra moulting and it is nice to have a product to freshen up stale porous items such as rugs and carpets.

A 'Fresh Air' spray masks the smell but I want something that will freshen and last a bit longer. So when Johnson brought out 'Shake 'n' Vac' I thought it was quite innovative in its concept and a brilliant idea. Especially if you have a smoker in the house as tobacco leaves a very stale smell which is extremely hard to get rid of.

                      -0- SHAKE 'n' VAC -0-

The product is housed in a tall, slim, green plastic shaker. It has a flip-up release to the top which reveals two holes for the purpose of shaking the perfumed powder out. The fragrance that I have is Magnolia and Vanilla. Now I don't normally like Vanilla, but mixed with the Magnolia it works well as a fragrance. This product also contains an odour neutraliser, so it works on a few levels. It claims to eliminate lingering smells like pet, tobacco and cooking odours that can get trapped in materials. The container holds 400g and this will last for quite a few applications. Apx: 16-18 square metres.

The Glade Shake 'n' Vac contains real perfume and II have to say that the fragrances are really quite lovely. I am asthmatic and perfumes can make me wheezy, so it is best if you are allergic and susceptible to reaction from perfume to, either, not use it, or leave the room as soon as you have shaken it upon the area. It does die down in strength after leaving for a few minutes, and then you just hoover the excess up. Always remember to keep pets away when you are applying this product until it is vacuumed up. I used to absolutely hate the advert for this product. Totally cringe worthy!

                      -0- SUMMARY -0-

I think Shake 'n' Vac is an excellent idea. It freshens the air in the house nicely and brings a spruced up and clean look to carpets and rugs. Being a pale powder make sure that all excess is always removed. It's a reasonably cheap way of restoring a clean smell to musty fabric and carpet. The container lasts quite a while and the variety of fragrances is pleasant also. -

My experience of using 'Silvo Wadding' spans about 12 years. I used to be an Antique dealer and spent many hours happily cleaning silver and silver plate items to sell. I started out using the Silvo pink cream polish which was quite hard work and always took a few applications to really get the dirt out of the silver and bring out the true colour and shine of the metalware.

Most people who deal in silver and silver plate use the Silvo wadding and it was recommended to me for just this purpose. I immediately found it so much easier to use than the liquid polish and much quicker also. With the liquid you need to use a soft cloth or as duster and this doesn't really give any real power to the polish. With the wadding, the slightly rough fibrous quality of it does half of the work for you. However 'Silvo Wadding' does not scratch or damage the surface of the silverware in any way. It just gives it an almost instant clean and shines with the minimum of rubbing involved.

This product comes contained in a small metal tin with a blue screw top lid. The tin is silver and white in appearance and bears the Royal Appointment seal. It states that the polish is long lasting due to its tarnish guard formula. Inside the tin is one large wrapped piece of wadding, much like thick cotton wool and you pull pieces off the main lump as required. The tin contents are 75g. The wadding is pink and quite wet with a strong polish smell and there are quite a few precautions to be observed to the reverse of the tin.

After using this product for many years, I have to say I experienced no ill effects. But I did always wear rubber gloves when using this product to clean. It is really effective and the best silver polish that I have tried. It is perfect for silver plated or silver cutlery, candle-sticks, trays, anything silver that requires cleaning will be benefited by Silvo. Basically the wadding does the hard work and cuts the time of the job in hand by half. -

I adore Ice-cream! Especially in the summer months and I like nothing more than to have a large bowl with several scoops, or a cornet of plain Vanilla ice cream, no adornments. I find it really refreshing and it cools me down after having been out in the sun. Sometimes however, a cheaper brand of ice-cream does need a partner, be it sprinkles, wafers, flake or some flavoured sauce.

This is where' Treat ' steps in. Treat do a range of good flavoured sauces to accompany ice- cream. These lift the bland flavour of a budget ice -cream or an ice-cream of a cheap nature. I don't think good ice-cream needs any extra flavouring, but Treats certainly do enhance the basic brands well. Their logo is 'Create a little Magic' and it is great fun to mix the different flavours together.-

Askeys 'Treats' come in a blue plastic squeezable container with an unscrew, flip-top cap. The sauce flavour is suggested upon the front by the colour of the packaging. In the Strawberry case it is red. Maple, brown and so on; the weight of the container is 325g and this sauce should be kept in the cupboard and not the fridge. Treat sauce isn't just to enliven the flavour of ice-cream, you can use it on any desert that appeals to give it added flavour.

Treats sauces come in several flavours: Strawberry - Maple - Chocolate - Toffee and they are all delicious. The sauce is thick and runny and very sticky so it is best to try not to spill down yourself, as it is really hard to clean off. It becomes really sticky and clings to your clothes. The flavour is very good, quite natural tasting really and it does compliment the ice-cream very well. It is delicious in rice pudding, on pancakes, waffles, ice-cream and so much more. A good addition to your larder.-

If I have toast or bread, I want butter on it and lots of it. I adore the flavour of rich, creamy, unsalted butter. It really is quite unhealthy the amount that I eat of it. So in a bid to cut down on my cholesterol I searched for a tasty spread that was not too 'margarine' in flavour. I am not keen on the olive oil spreads or the cheaper brands of 'Butter Alternatives'. So when Flora bought out their 'Buttery' I thought that this might just be the answer to my problem.-

Flora is an excellent brand and one that has a solid reputation, so I was more than happy to part with my cash and begin my trial of this NEW Flora Buttery. The thing that I really like about the Flora brand of products, is that they are rich in Omega's which purport to 'Keep your heart Healthy'. I notice that the Saturates contained within this product are only 1.6g as opposed to butter's highly unhealthy 5.4g, so this is a good start. Now, I am never going to find a spread that totally has the thick rich, creamy flavour of butter but as long as it tastes a little like then I shall be happy.

                            -0- FLORA BUTTERY -0-

The container is the same shape and size as the original Flora and it comes in a sunny shade of yellow with the Flora heart upon the top. It states that it has a 'Buttery Taste' and that it will also keep your heart healthy. The Buttery is rich in Omegas 3 & 6 and it has a 'New Improved Taste'. The weight of the tub is 500g and the price is £1.68 as from Tesco. The carton is freezable which is useful for times when this product is on 'Special Offer'.

The appearance of the Buttery spread is thick and creamy and bright yellow in colouring. The aroma is pleasant with no strong obvious butter smell coming from it. On tasting the Buttery I can taste the original flora flavour but with a creamier consistency. The flavour does not taste like butter, but it does have a pleasant and creamy taste and one that I could happily put up with as an alternative.

The description of 'Buttery' might be stretching it a little, however this Flora spread has a much better flavour than many of the 'so called' butter imitators. It suits me fine and the large 500g tub lasts me ages. Each 10g serving, which equates to 2 slices of bread, contains 63 calories and one third of the saturated fat of butter. It also contains Vitamins- E - B 6 - A - D- B 12 - and- Folic Acid -

'The Buttery spread is also suitable for cooking purposes including baking and shallow frying. It is made with good seed oils which are naturally rich in Omega 3 and 6 and it is 70% less saturated fat than butter and it is virtually Trans fat free, with no hydrogenated oils. Flora Buttery promises a great taste and to keep your heart healthy'.-

Well I thought the Flora Buttery was very nice. It had a good flavour to it and a creamy texture which was easy to spread. I have used it in my cooking and it is ok. It does tend to get soaked up quite quickly and disappear when shallow frying though. It's not ideal for cooking but it is useable. Basically I am happy enough with it until something better comes along. I do still buy butter from time to time as I crave the rich flavour of it, but with using Flora Buttery, it has helped me to cut down a bit. So all in all, after using it for a while now, I will give the Flora Buttery 6/10.-

I do most of my shopping in Tesco as it is very near my home. If I am in Brighton City Centre I will then go to Waitrose or Marks and Spencer. But to be honest, Tesco has just about everything that I could want, food wise and all under one roof. I also buy online with Tesco if I am quite busy any particular week. What I think is great about Tesco is that they offer a 'Value' range for people on a bit of a budget. These items from the value range are extremely good on the whole and excellent value too.

On our last shopping trip we purchased amonst other things a 2 litre bottle of Tesco Tropical Juice Drink. It was a good size bottle and costing only 99p. I get through quite a lot of juice and usually get Tropicana or Tesco finest, which is rather expensive. But the colour of this Tropical Juice looked really inviting and such a good sized container, so we thought we'd get this and give it a try. -

The 2 litres of Tropical Juice comes in a large plastic bottle with handle, much like a milk container. It has a bright yellow lid and a colourful label to the front which shows the fruits that are contained inside. The juice is made from a mix of fruit juices from concentrate. The drink contains 125 calories, 30.0g sugar and 1% salt. It is also suitable for vegetarians. It is recommended that you keep this juice refrigerated and once opened, consume within 5 days. Look for the 'use by' date and use by this time. The Juice is smooth with no bits and pale orange in colouring. -

Well I must admit that I was expecting NOT to like this! I have had 'Tropical' juices before, Iceland being a prime example, and they have been horrible. Get the mixture and quantity of fruit wrong and the result can be a bit of a disaster. But in the case of Tesco, they have made a very interesting Tropical Juice drink here and it is absolutely delicious. The balance of fruits is just right. It has a really lovely and lively flavour with full fruitiness and no one ingredient dominates the rest.

Tesco Tropical Juice drink is a smooth blend of exotic and not so exotic fruits that are in complete harmony. I shall definitely be buying this again as I love the flavour and also the fact that the 2 litre bottle is only 99p is an added bonus. Why not take a look on the Tesco Website. You will have to register to view the products and it is a very clear and well laid out site. I definitely recommend this product for its sheer good value and great taste.-

                                --ATONEMENT--

Atonement was released in 2007. Directed by Joe Wright and based on a critically acclaimed novel of the same name, by Ian McEwan. Starring: James McAvoy, Keira Knightly, Saoirse Ronan and Vanessa Redgrave. - Genre: Drama/Romance/War - BBFC Rating: 15 - Running Time: 123 Minutes -

Music by Dario Marianelli. Cinematography Seamus McGarvey.

Atonement is a story of an upper class family who live in a huge country mansion. It is set initially in 1935 pre war Britain and it is a very interesting and complex film. Basically it is the tale of the relationship of two sisters and a local man. A love triangle of sorts. Bryony is thirteen, and a very Precocious, sensitive, creative and highly strung individual. Her older sister Cecilia is a vivacious, 20 something, and is a very beautiful creature indeed. Bryony harbours a fascination with her sister and a jealousy of the attention that centres on her. There is a man at the heart of this tale, Robbie, the housekeeper's son whose studies have been financed by Cecilia's father and whom Cecilia is very much in love with. She keeps it hidden though, because, as she says to Bryony, when asked by her sister, why she didn't really talk to him any more; Cecilia's reply was, "Because we move in different circles". So here the class divide was evidently separating the love that they felt for one another.

Whilst collecting flowers in the grounds a vase is broken and Cecilia strips off and plunges in to the fountain water to retrieve the broken piece, as she surfaces, Robbie is filled with desire at witnessing her body through her wet clothes. Unable to put his passion into words, Robbie goes home and composes a note to her. He composes two actually, one is crude and sexual where he has written down what he what like to do to her in his fantasies, and he uses the C word. The other is more formal and is the correct one which he means to send. He rushes down to the meadow and sees Bryony running wildly through the grass and he asks her to deliver his note to Cecilia before he arrives for dinner at the big house later that evening. On reaching home, to his horror, he realises that he has included the wrong note in the letter.

Now, Bryony has a huge crush on Robbie, an intense infatuation and at thirteen can't identify just what these feelings mean. One day Bryony throws herself into the lake to see if Robbie will save her, which of course he does, and like some great romantic scene from a movie Bryony says, "You saved my life", I owe you everything, you are my hero. Bryony is a very gifted young woman and writes plays for her cousins to perform and on the very night that they are due to do just this, after the big dinner, a strange and very dark happening occurs that will alter the lives of Cecilia, Bryony and Robbie forever. -

Atonement is an incredibly beautiful film and one that moves at an urgent pace. From the very opening scene when Bryony is hurriedly finishing writing the play on her typewriter, the tap of the keys forms the beat of the music and it is sharp and urgent and the whole feel underlying is that of a frantic nature and of a foreboding. This is brilliantly done and throughout the film strange sounds such as these, are picked out and featured as a tempo and beat as part of the musical score. There is urgency running right through the heart of this film and it shown in fast movement, fast cuts and the cast always walking quickly accompanied by the haunting and hugely moving piano playing and the wonderful musical score.

There is strange use of flashbacks and flash forwards at odd times during the film though it is not hard to keep up, but it does throw you off balance a bit and this is probably what was intended. The film is striking, not only in its stunning use of cinematography, and this is some of the best I've ever seen without a doubt, but also in the amazing propping in this film. It captured the era perfectly. Every detail, every prop was beautifully chosen and the flow of the film was perfectly believable because wherever the eye was cast, every item was on keeping. There is so much to applaud within the film. The costumes and make-up, the casting, which was fantastic and where ever they found the two curly, red haired twin cousins was incredible. They looked like something out of Famous Five, so in keeping with the era.

Much like 'Sliding Doors' when you are given two scenarios of a given situation, then Atonement does similar and more. They will show a scene from one angle and viewpoint and then they show it from another person's perspective. This is incredibly powerful film making and I loved the use of this. The whole film worked amazingly well on every level. The story is superb, intricate and highly interesting, moving and very poignant. I never get emotional watching a film but with Atonement the sheer beauty of it all just swept me away and the heartbreaking realism on display did get to me I have to admit. The film showed the 'upstairs downstairs' aspect well and the class divide of rural England. As the film changes in time, the reconstruction and images of a war torn era and the spirit of Dunkirk were shown in dramatic and accurate form. There is nothing not to praise here. Every last detail was as it should be.

The acting was first class James McAvoy gave a blinding performance as Robbie, entirely believable and superbly sincere and Keira Knightly was spellbinding. The camera loves her and her close-ups were perfection. She really is very beautiful. For me, those two gave the finest performances. The supporting cast were also extremely good. The direction is superb and the story has an incredible depth to it. What stole the film for me ultimately, was the stunning countryside and beautiful lakes. The cinematography was some of the best I've ever witnessed. It captured every fine detail in such amazing use of the close up. The sweeping angles of the poppy fields, the blades of grass, the swirl on the water of the lake and the breathtaking underwater cinematography had me spellbound throughout.

The music was also absolutely incredible all the way through the film. Music is running through the core of this film which aids brilliantly in creating the huge atmosphere and emotion throughout. The music and cinematography worked hand in hand with ease to create a visually and audibly spectacular masterpiece of a film and basically I can't praise it enough. Atonement won many awards including an Oscar.-

Today , Maille still manufactures its mustards in Dijon, and still remains faithful to its founder's original core values-- Diligence, Excellence, and Authenticity'.

Mustard is one of my favourite condiments. It is extremely versatile and it gives seriously good flavour to a huge variety of foods. I am particularly fond of the course grain mustard with its fantastic depth of unique flavour and I like a good, strong British Mustard also, such as Colman's. But Maille Dijon Mustard is probably the one that I would reach for first when wanting smooth texture mustard, and one with a good, hot flavour to it. The taste of meat quite often benefits from the 'bite' of a good mustard and I like to smear some course grain over a nice fillet steak, before adding a little red wine and a spoonful of fromage frais. It tastes absolutely divine and the kick of the mustard compliments the quality cut of the fillet steak well.

The product comes in an expensive looking jar of a high quality' It is nicely rounded with a black and gold screw-top lid and an attractive complimentary label, which states that Maille Dijon Originale Mustard is traditional mustard. It is mid brown in colouring and has a creamy, pasty texture to it with the tiny pieces of the mustard grain showing through the jar. Hailing from France since 1747, with 260 years of expertise; the jar contains 215g and benefits from refrigeration once opened and should be used within one month of opening.

This is a quality product which I feel is exceptional value. Mustard is a wonderful condiment and accompaniment to food. I put a little in my macaroni and cauliflower cheese sauce and it gives the taste of the cheese a really rich and interesting flavour with a good' bite' to it' Also cheese on toast benefits from a light smearing of the Maille mustard, What it does is liven up your food, gives it an individual flavouring. There are many uses for mustard and on the Maille Website you will find some excellent recipes which feature some of the uses for this versatile condiment. -
