I was pleasantly surprised about this coffee and also it was instant. I normally have the fresh ground coffee but this option was and is much easier if you only just want one cup or you are in a hurry. They used the wholebean making a strong full flavoured cup of coffee. When you first open the tin of coffee or the refill there welcome smell of coffee just like you get with the fresh ground coffee.I like the round cyclinder container which is a good size and then there is the handy size refill packet which just is the right size to pour in the cyclinder . Its 85g in size enough to make 47 cups which I think is good value. Kenco has managed to produce a instant coffee which gives a lovely full flavoured taste of roasted coffee in an instant.
The coffee beans are from Rain Forest Alliance farms which have been certified that every purchase helps the coffee growing communties and the environment is protected They used recyclable materials for the tin.The cost of the tin is around £3.99 which is in a 100g tin and the refil is £3.29 85g . It is in a silver foil reseable packet.
I am hooked on this series which has Agatha Raisin as the main character .Who lives in a sleepy village called Carsely in the Cotswold. The start of the book I read that Agatha was preparing to marry her next door neighbour James Lacey she had sold her house and put all her furniture into storage.
Her dear friend Roy Silver and work colleague from London wanted some form of revenge after he felt he had been snubbed during a previous case which they were both did not like the idea of Agatha Raisin as he knew she had been married before and was not certain whether he was a live or dead so he started to search for Mr Raisin yes he did find him and so on the day that the wedding ceremony and at the crucial point in the wedding proceedings there was a disturbance and a policeman and Agatha's first husband who she did think had died came in. Further talks then were held and the wedding sadly was cancelled. James left on his own in a upset and furious state ,when Agatha went back to her cottage that she had sold she then tried to cancel the house sale arranged to get her furniture out of store and provisions from a local shop. She hoped to buy back her house from Mrs Hardy and would even offer her more money than she paid for it.
She did not realise that her husband had been murdered and then police came round took her down to the police station where she was told she was a suspect of murder. Also James Lacey was a suspect so they both started to work together to find out who actually did the murder. There relationship had changed from a happy couple who was getting married to a couple who just tolerated each other just determined to clear their names.
It is a very easy read and the plots are very predictable. Very enjoyable and humorous in parts .
This is the second novel which I have read by this Husband/Wife team Nicci French.
It is another crime psychological thriller and it is a book which you will not be able to put down.
The open chapter begins with the introduction of the main character Astrid Bell who delivers packages round London as a Courier on a bike.It can be quite risky when you travel on a bike accidents can happen and she felt sooner or later she will be involved in an accident. That is what happened when Astrid was returning home one day almost to her home when a car which was parked had its door wide open and she was knocked off her bike. The lady who owned the car was very sorry and said she would pay for the bike. Astrid housemates came out to see what had happened and helped her back into the house.
Then I read on and started to get to know the other characters of the book Astrid's housemates.
Miles who owns the house came back that eveing and broke some shattering news that he asked them all to leave because his girlfriend called Leah and himself decided to live together . After the bad news about the fact that they had to move certain things happen. particularly to Astrid. Was she the one that murdered Margaret Farrell who left the car door open and caused the accident of Astrid falling off her bike, then she collecting a parcel from a very wealthy lady and when Astrid arrives there discovers after no one came to the door. Astrid then peered into the letterbox and discovered a body lying on the floor.
The police then got involved after the first murder of the lady who had caused the accident of Astrid who collided into the car door while she was riding her bike.
This was only the start of a living nightmare for the housemates.
There was a new arrival to the house was he the person he said he was he did seem to fit in but was that an acted.
The relationships with all.the characters in the house and how they are with each other and their sadness when they had to leave the house. You could feel their sadness in parting as you read.
Then reading the epilogue and Astrid returning once again to the house in Maitland Road which was now up for sale did she want to buy it or was there too many bad memories of what went on there.
This is a well written crime story keeping you in suspense in who actually did the murders right to the end.
I really find Donna Leon a very good crime writer and thoroughly enjoy reading her books as the series she writes is of an IItalian Detective Brunetti he lives in Venice.Italy.This book starts of by having his parents in law inviting he and his wife for a dinner party. He was sat next to Franca Marinello who was a wife of a wealthy Venetian businessman. She enjoyed reading and had a great enjoyment in the reading of Virgil and Cicero which was a passion of his as well.
It was just her apperance which was shocking to see.
The next day his father in law spoke with his son in law Brunetti met his father in law they chattered about business adventures also Brunetti thought that that he might be lonely and when he returned home he did speak to his wife Paola about it
Carabiniera Maggior Flippo Guarino who was from the city Marghera. visited Brunetti This became a much wider Mafia crime which needed to be investigated.
The plot is average but what I like is the way tht the author manages to draw you in and that you really find it difficult to put the book down until you acually find out who did the crime and perhaps why. Shows how the different characters blend into one another to form a picture. I like the ease in which Donna Leon has in even the everyday things which happen become real with the descriptions of family life in Italy.
I love the setting of Venice one of my favourite places
I always look out for different products to try and I discovered this Nivea Cashmere shower gel so I tried it out. I was so amazed after using the product it certainly left my skin soft smooth and lightly perfumed with Orchid Blossom scent.. You only need a small amount in the palm of your hand it is a white thick creamy gel and it lathers up very well and a little goes a long way.
I found after using it it did leave the skin moisturised and soft to touch and long lasting.
It is in a white container and holds 250ml. It is shaped in a way that makes it easy to hold and to use in the shower. It is simply designed with the familiar Nivea Logo which is blue and then underneath the products name Cashmere Moments.Very eyecatching on a shop shelf and easy to find.
I do like Nivea products as the products are good quality without costing a fortune I think I bought 3 bottles of the shower gel for about £4 which I thought was not a bad price.
This is the scond book in the seris of Win Garano who is a Massachusetts State Investigator. He had been given a case to solve which will proof to be rather challenging by his boss Monique Lamont.
The case which he had to solve was of a murder which happened over forty years ago of a lady who was blind. It was persumed that the Boston Strangler had murdered Janie Brolin and she had been left dead after she was raped and all this happened in 1962.
Win had very little to go on as the records were patchy so it was a very challening case to be involved in.
He spent along time researching the archives and also in contact with the Scotland Yard. and high ranking Police Officers
While he was searching for answers to the Janie Brolin Case he did discover other things which had been kept secret and this did involve his Boss Monique Lamont.
It took me a little while to get into the story but after awhile I was able to get stuck into it and started to enjoy it. and I found it was better than the first book which I read called The Risk. I did not find it flowed easily and I am uncertain about Patricia Cornwell's style of writing which is not the style I am familiar with but an interesting plot.Got a better insight of the main character in reading The Front which was Win Garano and how he relates to other people who he meets particuraly a female Police Officer called Stump who helps him with researching the case.
The Front was written in 2008.
Since my illness I have had to rely on bought cake so I thought these Almond Slices from "Mr Kipling" well worth having a try.
They are in an eyecatching bright coloured oblong box in red, yellow and a dash of green.
Each Almond Slice has 151 calories,13.7g sugar 5.4g fat 1.5g saturates and 0.13g salt
They are oblong in shape On the base there is a light pastry, followed with a layer of jam which is plum and raspberry flavour. After that there is almond sponge which has a soft mosit taste and to complete the slice there is a sprinkled topping of almond flakes.
What I like about these are easy to consume I like the taste of them as the almond sponge goes well with the jam and pastry so a good combination.
They are just like homemade also the ingredients which are used are top quality with free range eggs and no Artificial Colourings have been used or Hydrogenated Fat.
Ideal teatime addition.
Also there are six in a box and there are 3 packets of two slices so if you only want two the other cakes will still keep fresh.
The cost is just over a £1 as they are on special offer where I do my shopping.
This is the first book of Penelope Lively's which I have read.
It is about a one particular family who grew up in a large Edwardian House and garden. We are introduced the family individually and their own take on their upbringing the effects it had on them while growing up in the family and now when they are grown ups. How they cope with their relationships etc.
We see how the relationship between Charles and Alison are somewhat disfuntional where Alison mainly runs the home while the husband works and has very little input in the family as he spends majority of his time in his office.
The coming together when Charles passes away and what does become of Alison is wife, Ingrid Au Pair and the house.
It was set in 1960s perhaps earlier where growing up was certainly simpler and it did remind me of my own upbringing in some way.
I found the style of writing a little different to what I am used to so it did take me a little while to get used to the style but it certainly was an enjoyable read.It is divided in managable chapters which are the family members of Allsmead and after each chapter you can see how that family fitted in.... ..
I am always looking around for a good hairspray and then I found Wella Silvikrin firm hold hairspray. It was on special offer so I went out and brought it to try.
The size was 400ml and it is in a green background with clear white writing of the name Silvikrin so it is easy to find on a shelf in a shop. Further down on the container there is a yellow background with the word hairspray written a little smaller and in green.
To use the spray you have to spray the hair by holding the can about 20-30cm away from the hair making sure that it covers the hair evenly. For an extra hair volume and hold you can spray straight into the roots with your head down while you are spraying.
It is also provides UV PROCTECTION so ideal in the warmer weather.
The smell is ok and pleasant.
So I am won over by this product as it is easy to use and it holds my hair and it does look natural at the same time.
The cost is around £2.50 400ml size I got mine on a special deal so it is always a good idea to look around to get a good price. Also they are in different sizes as well get the size that suits you.
.Another enchanting story by Maeve Binchy. I like the way that she manages to interweave her characters in the stories that she writes. She makes them very real.
The descriptions are amazing. When you first open the book you straight away get into the introduction of the characters and you could not help but get a warm feeling to them. All came together after a tradegy of a fire. So we expericence all of what was affecting them during this awful situation of the fire.
We get to know them as individuals and why they were on this Island in the first place then as one reads on their friendships with each other and the close bond which they find from each other.Strangers coming together for a few days from four countries, England,Ireland,Germany and America.
Fiona who came from Ireland is a nurse but met someone who her family were not happy with came over to this Greek Island with her boyfriend Shane he was certainly not a very nice person which caused concern with her new friends and family back at home.
Then there was Thomas from America he was here on a sabbactical and also tries to keep in contact with his son but has concerns about his ex wife and her new husband.
Elsa from Germany had left her successful life as a presenter and long term boyfriend who does not want to let her go how does she cope with that thats interesting to read.
Finally David who is a very quiet shy individual who needed to get away and to make a stand to his Father who is too overbearing and forceful character.
Then they all met Vonni who did come from Ireland many years ago and has spent a long time on this Island she made friends with them and even gave them advice which after a while they did come round too which you would have thought she would be pleased with.
She did have a very troubled past which was she thought was long gone and buried but it was seemlingly was raising its ugly head again while she was friendly with these four people.
Andreas who had a Taverna up on the hill from the harbour enjoyed the company of these four young people and was very close to Vonni. He also had a son who left on bad terms with his father and went to America . He was persuaded to write a letter to him will this letter prompt his son's return back to the Island.
Gradually as you read on it drawers you into their lives and finally what they are going to do in the future making that big decidion to either stay on this Island or go back home to face what they ran away from.
It was a book I found difficult to put down thoroughly enjoyed it like the easy flow of descriptions of characters there relationships which they have. Great read.
The story is based round the village called Turnham Malpass to my mind it is so fictional I am sure no actual village would be like this.
I like the style in which Rebecca Shaw has developed for this series of books which Village Gossip is the seventh in the series of Turnham Mallpass. It is so easy read.
Like all villages they can be sleepy and so was Turnham Malpass until a vistor arrived and it was sleepy no more.
The vistor was the old friend of owner Jimbo and Harriet who ran the Village Shop who came to stay with them his name is Hugo and he was recovering from not being very well.
Hugo did not care much for the quiet village life and so he soon found it boring. Until he came in to contact with Caroline who was the Vicar's wife. He found he was very attracted to her causing problems with Peter her husband. Caroline had been ill with cancer and was also bringing up two children who were twins. Since her illness she was feeling a little low and was talking about returning to work has a GP until Hugo came along to stay in the village. During his stay he produced a play which all the village gets involved in and this included Caroline who was Hugo's leading lady in the play.
This did cause various ripples in the village causing broken relationships, neighbours at war with each other
Also causes problems with Caroline and the Rector Peter shows how they coped during this challenging time how Caroline is coping etc. The story is fairly mundane but still enjoyable in a quaint sort of way.
I am always on the look out for new crime stories so I was so excited to find Ann Granger. This is the first book in the series. It is well written and fairly easy to read. As in alot of new authors I find to read I often find the first book which I read can be a little harder as I am finding out the style of the writer so I was surprised that it was a very easy read and I soon go to know the characters and how the story unfolds. It was the type of book which was hard to put down as you really wanted to know who had done the murders.
We are straight away introduced to the character Lucas Barton he did not care for the countryside but he arrives at this farm which appeared to be deserted he was going to do a business deal there until he discovered in the stables a body of a girl which was dead. This was the start of bad things occurring to him and finally causing his death. But Why?Who was she?
Inspector Jess Campbell was assigned to solving the case of this murdered girl in the stable block. It was hard to begin with has there were very few clues.
She also had a new superintendent Ian Carter to get to know and she did not like that fact that he always seem to be breathing down her neck which caused her to feel pressure in solving the case as quickly as possible. In the start she was only solving one murder the dead girl but then discovered the body of Lucas Barton as well. Was this a Double murder by one person.
As you read the book the individual characters started to unfold and also there relationships with each other are being discovered. The author Ann Granger certainly manages to drawer you into each of the characters to get to know them as individuals and even into their relationships with one another.
I will certainly read more of her books as this was a very enjoyable read.
Belvita Breakfast Biscuits
I saw these being advertised first of all on the television and I thought what an excellent idea Biscuits for Breakfast.
Breakfast for me is a very difficult for me to have as I get up very early and often I can only manage a cup of coffee but since I have being buying these biscuits I have been managing to have them along side my coffee as they are so easy to eat and digest.
They come in a very colourful box which the main colour of yellow so easy to spot on a supermarket shelf with a drawing of the biscuits also on the box.
Each box contains 6 servings of 4 biscuits in a clear wrapper to keep them fresh. Each serving of these biscuits have Vitamins B1,B6 ,B9, there is a good source of fibre, made from wholegrain so very good balance of ingredients which certainly sets you up for the day. They do not have any colourings or preservatives all wholesome food.
Each biscuit is very crunchy to eat and very easy to digest.Goes down very well with a cup of fresh coffee. Great start to the new day.You can taste the oats in the biscuits in every mouthful.
They also claim that when you have consumed the biscuits the carbohydrates are then regularly released over four hours until lunchtime. I was a little dubious about that but when I tried them I was very surprised because I did not need a mid morning snack and I certainly can last out until lunchtime.
The cost of these is £2.29 which I suppose is on the expensive side but as they are working for me I will always buy a box at week.
Macbeth Series and it was great to read over Christmas. It follows the usual style but I always find myself drawn in and it is like meeting old friends. So refreshing.
Hamish Macbeth loves being part of Lochdubh which is a very small village . He enjoys being the local Policeman there and would not want to move. His superiors tried on a number of times to promote him which then would mean that he would have to move which he is not in favour of so he would do anything to avoid being promoted. So he arranges to be signed off with exhaustion by the Doctor
The story is about an insurance fraud which then involves the media and this once again brought Hamish into the attention of his boss who would like to transfer him but he then trys to prevent this happening so that he could remain in Lochdubh. While doing this he then was able to solve another crime which was about a Nursing Home.
M C Beaton has a cleaver way to inter weave the characters which is what I enjoy most of all. I have never been to the Highlands but when I am reading one of Hamish Macbeth stories I can feel and imagine that I am actually there almost part of the story. The plots are simple but very enjoyable and looking forward for the next one.
Litchfield National Park is much smaller than the Kakadu Park but it is a must to visit when you are in the Northern Territory and it is not very far from Darwin
Litchfield became a national park in 1986 and it is becoming very popular with tourists. With people going to see Wangi and Florence Falls and one of the must attractions to see as they are so breathetaking.
Some of the best places to go in Litchfield are the places that can be visited only by a 4x4 wheel vehicle . These will be areas that Tour Buses and Tourists which come in there droves will not be able to visit.
Wangi Falls is very popular with tourists and there you can swim if you like it also is surrounded by rainforest. Also there are plenty of walks including a walk which is three kilometers in distance which takes you actually over the Falls and then back to the car park. Florence Falls no one really knows how these waterfalls got their name but there is a story which goes back to 1869 when the Goyders party of land surveyors which was called Florence Falls only after a few weeks just arriving at Darwin Harbour. It is on the eastern part of the Tabletop Range. There is a three hundred metre walk to the Lookout which you will be able to see over the gorge and breathe taking views of the Florence Falls and also the dry sandstone plateau.
Shady Creek Walk is about 900 metres and will take about 45 minutes walk from the Plunge pool back to the car park. When you are on the walk you follow a small stream and this travels drown from this secondary plateau which will take you through a Rainforest Gorge then it crosses the creek by using the footbridges and eventually through woodlands and back once more to Florence Creek crossing and after passing a very nice area to have a picnic it is only a very short walk to the car park and toilets.
Magnetic Termite Mounds are wedge-shaped grey and several metres tall. Termites build these mounds and it is another thing to see when you visit Litchfield Park
It is best to look out for the best tour as there a quite a few to go with. Some of the tours to Litchfield Park also include a trip to the Crocodiles and to see them there is a boat cruise that is what we did and very worthwhile. You will see crocodiles jumping out of water amazing.
When ones walk round to see the caves there you will see Aborigional Art from a long time ago it was so amazing to see.
I wish I had longer to spend there as I found it a great place to visit and so much to see an explore-another time perhaps.
