      What Is .Net Magazine?

The .Net magazine is the web designers mag. It has detailed examples of different techniques ,advice and opinions from web designing experts .It takes a look at and gives its opinion on all the technology's and web standers used in today's Industry

      What is in it?

On opening the magazine you will come to the contents page first. The first section is articles , it contains interviews with people from the world of web design with their opinions and advice relating to web design technology and the latest issues facing the industry.

The next section is the techniques section. This section goes into specific detail on how to use web technologies such as CSS, Java Script, PHP. A good example of this would be, Add cutting edge visual effects using CSS. It contains a detailed breakdown of how to do this.

For each project in this section it will tell you the level of understanding you will need to complete it. An example of this would be (Java Script : intermediate knowledge needed). It will tell you what tools you will need such as what web editor , browser ect. It will tell you how long the project will take and at the end of it give you a list of resources on where to find out more info on that subject.

Also in this section is a web site build off. You get three different approaches from different Industry professionals on how to deal with a particular part of web site build or a complete build. It can be quite interesting to see how different people deal with the same problem.

There are plenty more sub sections within techniques

(Mobile) for web sits designed for the mobile phone market
(Make over) Designers revamp a site
(How we built it) web site creators talking about how they created their own site

If you want to archive your CD there is a free inlay on the back page which also as a support address for the CD. There is an email for reader support and a phone number, ask to speak to disk support.

      The Cost.

The cost of the magazine is £5.99 but as with most magazines if you subscribe you will save, £13.99 is the price per quarter. It is also a global magazine subscribing world wide.

      Mt opinion

This magazine is a monthly mag which as a huge amount of information in it and is very detailed. The very nature of .Net means that the narrative style is very technical ,I would not recommend it to a beginner or some one who wants to use a blogging application such as word press who as no knowledge of web design. There is plenty of other free resources that would be better for these people. .Net also comes with an events calender for seminars conferences and general talks on web design. One thing I do find a bit annoying is there is for me too many adverts in between the articles but over all a great mag. For the right person this is going to to be an excellent magazine . I would definitely recommend for the enthusiastic amateur Web designing pro, small or large business, its an excellent resource

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Would Recommend To Everyone Who Uses The Net

        What is Web User?

Web User is one of the most useful magazines I have read. It is full of hints tips and general advice on internet usage, web sits and a wide rang of software that are are all talked about. What the Haynes car manual is for the amateur car tinkerer Web user is for the web tinkerer.

        What is inside the magazine?

When you open the cover there is an editorial explaining what is in this weeks magazine. Underneath this is a contents list starting with this weeks features.

The features section is packed with invaluable information. An example from issue 244. (Cover feature ) Best new free software, 35 free downloads covering music videos, chat, security and desktop tools. It gives you an over view of each software and tells you where to get it. The rest of the features section changes every fortnight. The range of topics it covers is massive from 50 ways to earn money on line to the best freebie websites, designing your own products on line to Spotify v we7. The features section is always insightful and helpful. It is a section I really like.

The next section is called Regulars. It features Regular columns on the same topics every week. There is a news page which gives you all the latest news regarding web related topics and security alerts which I find particularly helpful. What everyones clicking on, this is videos and other fun stuff from the web. An instant expert guide to, on any particular subject form software guides to how to get the most from a particular website. Also competitions , best new web site, best free software and readers letters. Web user essentials also comes under this section which is their guide to the best products and services on the web. A checkout page which as free goods and offers for readers, never used these my self but could come in use full for some.

The next section is called Practical Web User. This section is full of good advice with two practical workshops, expert tips, readers tips, ask the experts, readers help desk a get the most from page and an how to page .The kind of things covered in this section are walk through's on programs such as , Protect your kids with on line family Norton. Advice and help on pc problems , getting the most from different programs, windows 8 and more

There is in this magazine a products section dedicated to hardware. Its not a section I am particularly fond of as some of the hardware is not pc or web related. Personally I would go else were to get better and more detailed information on these product. However that said I do believe that some people find this section a useful distraction.

        The Cost

The cost of the magazine at the time of writing is £2.00 and it comes out every fortnight. If you subscribe you will save 35% at a cost of £8.45 every three months.

        My Opinion.

For me Web User as been invaluable , I would not like to do with out it. The one downside for me is that some times some of the walk through's are not as detailed as I think they should be,Almost just an over view in some cases. Maybe less content and more detail is what is needed or a cover CD to enhance a particular feature. I find it very easy to understand with good clear descriptions It doesn't bog you down with too much technical terminology which is something I really like . Overall I rate Web User very highly and would recommend it to any one. With such a low price it s defiantly a bargain

          Advantages

          • Reliability

          Disadvantages

I would recomend this phone for the price

The BT Duet 20 is what I would call a Standard corded Telephone , sturdy and reliable. It does exactly what it says on the box.

The Phone is white and being neutral in colour means it should fit in with most surroundings. The down side to it being white is that it will get marks on it and generally grubby. A quick wipe with a very damp cloth should do the job of removing any marks or dirt ,it did on ours.

All the buttons are on the inside of the handset which means they are tucked away for a bit of protection. On the handset situated at the bottom of the dialling numbers are four feature buttons ,Pause ,Redial, Secrecy and Call Waiting. Redial and Secrecy are the two buttons we use, for Call Waiting to work you have to be subscribe to your phone line provider.

There are three ringer settings of high, low and off. The off has come in very handy when I have been on nights .It obviously still receives incoming calls but there is a incoming light indicator at the bottom of the hand set, so if any house hold member happens to walk past and see the light flashing then they would be able to answer the phone. The only down side to the ringer setting button is that it is situated on the side of the handset and could be accidentally flicked to an off position while using the phone.

The ringer seems loud enough to me and and the quality of the sound when we are using the phone does generally sound clear but it does depend on the line and other phone you are calling too .

The phone can be placed on a table top or the added option of wall mounting. It does come with a wall mounting diagram but no screws or wall plugs, you have to provide your own. It also comes with a full user guide but you can not really go wrong with the functionality of the phone as it is so simple to use.

We bought the phone from Argos at a cost of £10.99 but I have seen the phone priced at £8.20 from Amazon.

OK if you have got nothing beter to do

A skeleton of a young girl aged about 14 years old. Who is she , how old are the bones, where is she from? Forensic anthropologist Dr Temperance Brennan is Struggling to keep her emotions in check.

This skeleton along with a growing list of missing children stir Temps emotions and ignite a memory from her own childhood. The disappearance of her friend, no warning, no explanation.

With temps emotions now running at full speed she now decides to take matters into her own hands. Unprepared for the horrors she uncovers can she come out in one piece.?

This is the second Kathy Reichs novel I have read , unfortunately it is not as good as the first novel I read.

The plot focuses on the main caricature's {Temperance Brennan} relationship between her sister and ex lover {Ryan}. The Connection between Ryan's missing persons case Which he is working on within is role as detective. An obsessive interest in her lost childhood friend who she believes to be dead and the connection between the skeleton of the 14 year old girl.

The book started with a slow meandering pace which I quickly lost interest in. There is a couple of dead ends within some sub plots which to me seem a little pointless . However the book did seem to pick up half way through and I quite enjoyed the rest of it.

The characters are all believable and the narrative is generally easy going although there is some forensic terminology that can get you a bit tongue tied, well it did me. Overall I would say that fans of Kathy Reichs would love this book but I am not so sure about the rest of us?

I have seen the book priced up on Amazon at £4.87. A lot cheaper for used copy's they also have hard back and Audio...

Overall a nice TV set I would recomend.

About two months ago my father's trusty old TV set went to meet its maker and is no more. It was one of the old style sets with the huge backs a 32 inch leviathan sat in the corner of the room.

Me and my brother got our heads to together and came up with a list of suitable replacements for him to buy. So he went and bought his own choice TV set instead!! (oh dear) or so we thought.

The TV set he bought is a LCD flat screen , Samsung LE-37B550 37 inch. OK so far, I am even starting to be a little impressed with his choice.

After we had plugged the set in we used the auto installation facility, we then sat back and watched the set tune its self in. After a bit of fine tuning with the sound and picture we got it to our liking . Overall we found the picture and sound to be of a very high stranded.

It comes with a free view tuner, full HD 1080p, 4 HDMI sockets, 1 Scart socket ,pc input socket , optical connection , 1 USB port, 1DVI socket and some more sockets that we have no idea what they are for and probably will never use.

It has Nicam stereo with 2 x 20 watts RMS power out put. It as an E P guide and a what's on now and next button.

The price of the TV set was reasonable at £399.99 from ARGOS . They said it had been reduced by £150 originally costing £549.99. I have also seen the set priced at £426.92 on Amazon Who also have used sets priced at £380.21.

            My opinion
            ``````````````
            My Father made an excellent choice (sigh of relief) in buying this TV set. We are all real pleased with the TV set, it was easy to set up. The picture and sound or spot on. The only small snag is that it only as one Scart socket which meant we had to go out and buy a Scart adapter to fit some of the other equipment to the TV. Overall an excellent TV set.
              ``````````````
About 4 years ago we decided to take the plunge and use Asda's on line grocery service. It meant our Saturday mornings or free to do other things.

Up to the point of check out this service was excellent however I wish I could say the same for the delivery side if things. We do our shopping fortnightly and every time we had a delivery there was a problem with it. The list of problems is huge to long to write here but they ranged from items missing to good chunks of the shopping missing, late deliveries to deliveries not turning up at all. The excuses were laughable and the apologies stopped coming. We put up with this joke for a year and then changed to Tesco who's service as been excellent, we have been with them ever since.

In Asda's defence we have a neighbour who uses their service and swears by them saying there service as been of a high stranded. Maybe they have improved over the last few years?. If you do use Asda then I hope you have a better experience than we did.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

                Better than the rest

Tesco.com offers many online services but for this review I will focus on the grocery section. As with all online supermarkets you have to be a member. Log on to the registration page and follow the instruction, you will be up and running in no time .

                How it works

The first thing to do when starting your shop is to book your delivery slot. These are 2 hour slots, 4pm to 6pm, 5pm to 7pm ect. they start from approximately 9am untill 10pm so there is plenty of choice. The delivery charges range from £3.50 to £6.00 .The most popular slots been the most expensive and the least popular been the cheapest .

After you have booked your delivery slot you then start your shop. At the top of your screen there or for tabs, groceries is the first. Click on this and you are presented with a list of online aisles. You pick an aisle, lets say fresh food. then you pick a product you are interested in lets say Apples. you are then presented with a list of all the available Apples. There is individual product information, weight quantities and price. Once you have chosen your Apples they will then be added to your shopping basket. Your Basket is on the right of the screen where you can see all the items you have picked and how much it will cost. You are able to add or remove quantities from the basket and remove the item altogether.

The second tab is your favourites list. All the items from your first shop will be stored to this and any new items from further shops. You are able to edit the list adding and removing products as you like. A good favourites list can reduce the amount of time spent shopping.

The third tab is special offers. All the offers are listed here. Bogof, half price and multi buys. Take note of the expiry date on the particular offer. If an offer expires before your shopping is delivered then you will not get the offer

The forth tab is an ideas section. Its full of general tips on how to use the site and some recipes.

When you check out there or a few options. Your shopping to be delivered with carrier bags ? Do you want substitutes. if you don't like the substitutes then you can give them back to the driver with no problems. You can amend your shopping up 4am on the day of your delivery.

                My opinion

We have been using Tesco online for approximately 3 years. For me it as been a blessing , freeing up a Saturday morning enabling me to do other thing that need doing.

Its not been without its minor problems but a Saturday without the the drudgery of a morning shop is worth it.

I have had one late delivery with a phone call and an apology off the driver.
One item missing from my shopping .
One box of broken eggs, a leaking bottle of bubble bath, one empty tin of beer! All the items where refunded by the driver.

All the drivers are polite and friendly with one exception who no longer works for them. I called him Mr Grumpy.

I know online shopping does not suit every one and there are plenty of valid reasons for not wanting to use these kind of shops. However Tesco have given me the best service so for and I can't see my self changing any time soon.

Pleased with the product and would recommend

We have now been using the Breville 4.5L vtpo41 slow cooker for approximately five months. It's stainless steel exterior and black trim will make it look elegant in any kitchen. On the front in a central position is a black coloured control dial with an off position and three settings for cooking, Low , High and Auto.

Low is generally for keeping cooked food hot.
                High is for cooking.
Auto is for when you are not around , it starts of cooking on high then automatically changes to low for a long slow cook.

When we used this cooker on auto we loaded it as normal Switched it on then went out for the day, about eight hours. On our return we found that the food had completely dried up , almost burnt. On this model there is no timer so particular attention must be paid to quantities of food in relation to how long it is cooked for . There are guide lines in the user manual which I strongly recommend you read.
The ceramic pot of the 4.5L is more than big enough for a family of four fitting a 41b joint of meat . There are some recipes in the back of the user manual which are worth taking a look at.

As I have already mentioned the 4.5l comes with an easy to read user manual which you should read before use, taking particular notice of the safety instructions. Always use the oven muffs when it is switched on as it dose get extremely hot on the exterior. Another point to take note of is when opening the lid, open away from the face as these cookers hold a lot of steam.

These slow cookers come in a variety of sizes .At the time of writing this I have seen this particular item priced up at 24.99 from Argos, shop around you may get a better deal.

Overall we are very happy with this Breville slow cooker. It gives us the time to do other things while our food is being cooked.

                  What is lightspeed Consumer Panel?
Lightspeed is just one of many paid survey sites. You get paid to take online surveys , you won't make your self rich but it is easy work for a bit of extra cash . I am a member of quite a few of these survey sites and for me lightspeed as been the best.

                  How do I join?
Unfortunately you cant go to lightspeed panel and register . It is by invite only or you could find a link to the registration page by searching Google

Once you have found a successful link the registration proses is strait forward and you will be up and running In no time at all.

                  How does it work?
Once you have logged in you will be on your members page. On this page or four columns. The first column is a list of all the surveys you are currently invited too. You don't have to log in to find out if you have any surveys as you will bee notified by email but it is always best to check.

In the second column is a list of profile surveys . These unpaid surveys help lightspeed match you to the paid surveys. It is my advice that you complete these as soon as possible. Once completed they will vanish from the list as do all the surveys.

The third column is the mini poll's section. They are one question and one answer , they take seconds to complete and they give you five entries for each poll into the monthly prize draw .I have to say I have not yet won any prize draw and that is after a year of trying.

The fourth column is a quick match column. You simply take a five minuet survey and this will match you up to more paid surveys.

You can access any part of the web site from this page . Navigation on this site is as easy as one two three.

                  How do I get paid
For every survey you take you earn lightspeed points ranging from 50 to110 points. These points can be exchanged at the lightspeed shop anything from vouchers to jewellery, electronicle products to tools, but my favourite is hard cash. The least amount of money is 345 points = £3.00 the cash is paid into a pay pal account.

                  My Summery
This is a genuine site that pays up. To make the most of this site you should take the surveys as soon as possible as they do quickly fill their required targets. In my opinion this is one of the best survey sites out there very easy to make about £10.00 a month.
