I'm a fan of shooter games but was not as excited about this as I should have been, I was put off by my experience with the previous Advanced War Fighter games. But after playing this for a week I can see its a amazing game with more complexity than just run about shooting everything like the Modern Warfare games.
You play a member of a spec ops unit in the near future. You get sent on various missions during the story which involve stealth, teamwork, vehicle moments and of course fire fights. There are only a few points where the game decides when to be stealthy or aggressive but other than that you can play how you like and the game will reward you with points depending on how well you do in either case. You have several gadgets to use like sensor grenades that find enemies, x-ray goggles that detect metal and flying or driving drones to recon the area as well as a impressive selection on weapons which can be fully customized in a great exploded view menu. There are also challenges during the campaign which unlock extra weapon mods if completed, if not there are still lots of options to choose from. The missions are varied with different features and take place in lots of environments to keep things interesting and it looks amazing. All the characters that direct your team to places tend to confuse the story which I thought got a bit lost. The AI isn't bad either although they mainly just help with sync shots and fire fights but only if directed.
The game also features co-op game play and online either co-op or versus. Co-op does make the game more fun as the team is smarter than the AI and improves the experience. I haven't played versus so I can't comment on that. Nor have I tried the Kinnect features but I understand its only the weapon mod menu.
Overall defiantly worth a look as a fan of shooters. Its in between the operation flashpoint games and Modern Warfare the open terrain and freedom of execution is a good feature MW lacks. The prices are down to about £20 already depending where you go so even for a filler game its good.
If you like Family Guy or Star Wars you will enjoy this funny recreation staring the Griffin Family and Friends.
The story is based on episode four of the original star war trilogy where the Griffin family and other family guy characters take the parts of the star wars characters making fun of plot holes, using the environment for jokes and using classics from the series.
The episode is 45mins long so the story is cut down but features all of the major points so its not just a collection of clips. If you've never seen star wars then you might not understand some of the points but you can pick this up with out seeing family guy and still love it.
The extras feature a TV family guy episode, behind the scenes of how it was all done and cast and crew interviews. Don't be put off if you think this will ruin you star wars experiance because it only adds to it, as a fan of both I enjoyed it and have recomend it to everyone I know and you. Its a good laugh and not to be missed now that its cheap.
Don't be put off by the fact that this game looks childish as its still really fun to play and there is so much to do it will keep you entertained for weeks.
Theres no story that specificaly connects to a previous batman plot but all the Arkham in-mates have escaped and come up with various plans to destroy the city. There are two side to play from, batmans side or the villans side. In each section there are three mission sets relating to a specfic villan (Joker, Riddler or Penguin) each have five mission within.
You get two characters with you for each mission usualy batman and robin for goodie missions or the mission set villan and the level villan for baddie missions. To reach the end of the level you must solve puzzels and fight enemies but the complete the level you have to find 10 hidden canisters, collected lego studs and a special red brick in each level which unlocks upgrades and characters you can buy with the studs. You cannot complete the level the first time you play because the characters you're using may not be able to access the canisters so you will need to return in free play where you can use any character to get the canisters etc.
Two people can play at the same time. You can by upgrades you unlock to make the game eaiser, funnier or sillier. The cut scenes can be quite funny as none of the character can talk they use slap stick comedy to comunicate. It has endless replay value and will entertain you even if you're used to more advanced games and great for almost any family member. Highly recomended to everyone, you know you want to!
I've had this printer for a year and its been amazing, it has a lot of features and isn't difficult to setup or maintain making it perfect for home use.
I print things like essays and photos all the time and so far can not find any complaints. Lots of text no matter what font seems to print out well with out smudging or bluring letters together making it easy to read while looking presenatble and neat. Photographs are usualy okay and good enough for a album or project, always sharp and clear with a good representation for true colour. However if you have a highly contrasting photograph then some of the darker ares may smudge into the lighter areas depending on the photo paper you are using.
The ink may seem expensive but it lasts longer than most inks I've had by upto 15-25 pages depending if it photographs or writing, so in the long run you buy less. There are also only two cartrages (colour and balck ink) which is useful because you don't have to worry about cyan running out and only buying that one. Even when ink is saying low it can still print well and continue for a few more pages before it really needs changing. My suggestion is only buy canon ink because most companys will void warranty if they find other inks have broken you printer.
The printer also has a copier which is useful for backing up important documents or copying photographs with out turning on or being connected to a PC. The scanner mode allows you you scan images or documents into the PC for back up and its very easy to use. A built in card reader is also useful for transfering images to your PC and a USB connection in the front means you also don't loose a port.
The printer come with two instalation disks for both Mac or Windows so it will work on either of the two popular operating systems. Unfortuantly a USB cable to connect to the PC isn't supplied so if you don't have one on your old printer it will cost you another £10ish. It orginaly comes with ink, a full manual and set up diagrams for people no so familiar with computers with simple instuctions.
Great easy to use printer for the home which is easily maintainable. Recomended!
This is the brilliant sequel to batman begins but this time its pure action right from the start with out the intense story. You could almost watch this film with out seeing the first one but its still worth while.
The story this time is joker has turned up in Gotham to kill batman for the gangsters. Joker then unleashes his highly distructive and testing plans to bring batman and Gotham to it knees. As well as this Bruce/batman struggles to keep both lives appart and try to keep doing whats right.
A great story that lasts about 2hours. One annoying thing that bugged me was the change in actress who plays Rachel Dawes was changed but you don't notice as Maggie Gyllenhaal does a great job. Heath Ledger's preformance was great and was the best preformance of the joker I've seen and really gave the film the dark edge it needed. The other great actors like Oldman and Caine played their key characters amazingly and again Christian Bale plays bruce/batman fantasticly giving you the play boy one scene and the kick butt hero the next.
The special effects look great as most of the film was done as realisticly as possiable as show on the extras and it really makes you belive and draws you into the film more.
You don't have to know anything about batman to see the film but if you do then you might see one of the twists coming but its still great to watch anyway. Recomended to fans of batman or great film lovers as this is sure to be a classic you won't want to miss. Rated 12 so most of the family could enjoy as it find the balance between dark story for with amazing action, Its a bargin at amazon now so theres no reason you should take a look. I would also recomend blu-ray for this as well but just as good on DVD.
A amazing series brilliantly written and preformed thats a must see for all who enjoy gritty, realistic drama. Set in Baltimore the series follows both the police and criminals involved with the story.
Very unusual at first and seemed slow and confusing but once you get into it you realte to all of the characters and see how the criminals have a system to beat the cops and the cops are held back by paper work and only seem interested in good reports. It makes it hard to choose who to route for, the sorry kid who is too afraid to run from the gang or the mostly dirty cops. Overall its enjoyable to watch but does some times get complicated as they do put in what I presume are realistic elements of law and enforcement that I didn't understand and parts gets lost in jargon.
Each season is focused on a diffrent case but for the most part link up to previous characters and cases. The main character is a Irish cop (Jimmy Mcnulty) who is his own enemy as he not only tries to solve the case dispite rules but tries to find time for his ex-wife and kids inbetween drinking, played very well by Dominic West. All of the other characters are played well too and together create the feel of the city and how corroupt it is.
One of the best TV shows you will ever seen and definitly worth £59 (Amazon.co.uk's price) for the set which contains all 5 seasons promising hours of entertainment.
A great looking film backed up by good acting and a reasonable if slightly confusing story. Its set in the future where people can plug into a machine and live though robots, one day a member of the anti-machine group kills one of the robots and the guy controlling it with a strange device. Willis's character with the FBI is then called in to investiagte.
Its really well made and all the actors do a great job of moving and acting slightly robot like to add that faulse feeling everyone has. Willis did a great job as usual as he spent most of the time acting human and really drew you into the world and how it could change. In parts it became predictable or almost over dun trying to exaggerate how humans have let them selves go now theres no need, but wasn't too bad.
I would recomend this movie to anyone, its rated 12 so most of the family could enjoy, great balance of action and story. Any Willis fan should get this as he truely is amazing. Special effects also make this worth having on blu-ray, I recomend it.
This is a film you should avoid because the film doesn't let you settle into the story and seems more aimed at showing as much action as possiable. It closely relates to death race where death row prisoners compete for freedom except without cars and these prisoners are controlled by people on the outside competing in a game where the aim is to kill everyone else and reach the save point.
You get thrown almost into the middle of the story from the start and what you see is told badly as you don't really care for any of the characters. Sub-plots or characters will appear from no where or suddlenly get cut off making a complete mess of whats going on or making no sense and just seemed to be happening to attempt to tie up a otherwize pointless story. The acting was terrible, Gerard Butler plays his characters too emotionless and the bad guys character was stupid and even had his own song and dance routine near the end.
Do not buy this film its not worth any money, its not even worth buying just for the actors or action. It was a good idea but shown badly.
This is a perfect cheap film for the weekend with two amazing actors. The story is based on 'the day of the jackal'. Bruce Willis is a internternational assassin/master of disguise who has been hired to kill a VIP key to the US goverment. Richard Gere is a terrorist who the FBI are using to track and predict Willis's next move.
The story is very intreaging even though in places it soes drag on is a few parts but overall is brilliant. Both actors do a great job except for Gere's annoying Irish acsent. A younger Jack Black also makes an apperance in a small role and most of the othr actors do a god job as well.
Overall I recomend this film to people who like Willis as he does a briliant job and is the real key to this being a good film. I cannot compare to the previous films but you can get it cheap now from amazon so its definatly worth seeing.
Another amazing film from director Clint Eastwood. Set in the 1920 this is the true story of a woman whose son goes missing and when he returns hes not who he appears. The woman then struggles with the police and the press to get her real son found but the truth has a chilling twist. Its over 2 hours long but no second is waisted as you are drawn into the plot.
Angelina Jolie's preformance is one of her best ever and it really makes this film so authentic. Other great preformaces come from John Malkovich and generally everyone else in the film icluding the children. The sets and props all really added to the film even in the samllest deatil as well as the music that sounds amazing and definatly fits the period as well as the overall mood.
This film really suprised me with the story and how well it was told. I would recomend this film to almost anyone especially now that its about £4 on amazon. Its a must see!
Time shift is a game you might pick up cheap to kill time before the next big game comes out, even so its worth a play. Its unique gameplay allows you to alter time to complete your goals, you can pause time and rewind it slightly making this game in part a bit of a puzzle game.
Its a first person shooter so you get the usual range of weapons but no matter what you use the time powers make the game really easy. There are a few driving bits but you can only drive quad-bikes down a predetermined path so I thought that was pointless. You will also get a mission where you need to shoot enemies from a blimp but with the powers its easy. There will be a few bits where you need to think what to do and using the powers play heavily here.
Graphics were good but not the best and the story was pretty vacant for the most part as it seem that you just shot a whole bunch of guys.
I may have said easy alot but the game is still fun to play through but not more than once.
I recomend it if you just want a cheap game to play in a short time or for achivements. It does play online where you use time grenades etc to gain advantage over your enemy but I found it got boring as once you perfect a technique you just do the same ting a lot.
I've had my xbox for three years now and for the most part has given me a lot of joy.
Why choose a xbox over the other consoles? The 360 may not have as good graphics as the PS3 but there not bad and for most games you can't really tell the diffrence if you use HDMI conection which they now all come with. Most games are generaly aimed at the online experiance but there are a lot of games to choose from including most of the new releases you may see on TV. Once in a while a game might just be relaesed for the 360, and there are a lot of good, big titles over the PS3 exclusives. the xbox has the best online experiance (xbox live) where you can download new game content, full and arcade games, videos and demos as well this you can play most games online which people from around the world.
Downfalls. Microsoft will squeese every penny out of you while on xbox live meaning you have to buy a membership to fully access the content which range from about 3 - 12 months at prices reaching £29.99. To download games etc you will also need to buy microsoft points, 2100 is £15, demos and videos are free though. Accessories such as a microphone, extra conrollers keypads etc aren't cheap either and neither are the games although you don't need most of the accessories like the keypad. You have to buy a memory card or hard dirve (if one not supplied) because otherwise game progress will not be saved. Check what comes with the console before you buy anything else though. Older xboxs also suffer from a few problems the most famous being the three red lights, mine has caught two cases of it in the time I've had it and every time microsoft took and fixed if for free under warrenty taking less than 5 days.
Other features. The controller is a nice lay out that fits in your hand nicely allowing easy access to all of the buttons which are layed out similary to the playstations so you could get use to it quickly if your using a playstation. You get points from games called 'gamer score' which is a way of bragging to other players how good you are bu tthe more people seem to have the more annoying they get (myself included). The points do nothing online like convert to microsoft points which they should. Support is okay, they get the job done and the website has a great FAQ page which could help you but on the phone the pople on the other end have a hard time understanging you. Not too bad overall as mostly done over the internet now but don't know what happens if you don't have internet.
I think this is a great console for serious gamers, not many kids games so the Wii would be better for younger children although it can be sensored and restriced if you don't want children on 18 games etc. The PS3 doesn't have some of the exclusive big titles. Doesn't look out of place and easy to fit in with other electricals you might have. Recomended if you are a retro gamer or just like socialising and having fun.
This is a third person shooter in which you play Commander Shepard on a mission to stop an alien from bringing back a race that will kill everything.
Its really great to play because it so customizable. Before you begin you get to choose what the character looks like, whether you become a soldie or engineer etc and what his story is so the game has a lot of replay value. If you're not into the character set up thing then you can just skip and become the guy on the box. Depending on your character you get abilities that can help in certain areas and you can even get powers that allow you to throw people around etc.
Game play is mostly simple as controlls generaly match up to other games. Other than shooting and driving you can choose in cut scenes what to say if you really want but it can take ages but does alter what happens sometimes. In Between missions you might be running around a city trying to complete objectives which can get annoying as most places look the same or you will have to deal with a lot of loading screens. More annoying points are that you need to upgrade weapons and armor of you and your squad to be better in places which takes time. Guns overheat instead of run out of bullets and take ages to cool, by the time its cooled or you've changed weapons you're almost dead.
Graphics are amazing, you go to lots of diffrent planets including an ice one, desert but inside all of the buildings look the same. The characters look great but sometimes during cut scenes it takes a while for the graphics to render to for about a minute everything is one solid colour but thats not so bad.
Overall I recomend this game to people with patience as there are alot of loading screens and cut sceens, if you just wanna be trigger happy then avoid this! I would advise you play this before the new one though as the story continues so don't skip it!
I've over-looked this film before because to me it looked like another version of the saw film but turned out to be very good.
Basically the FBI cyber crime unit find this web site where you log in to watch some one die but the more people who log in the shorter the guy has. The actors are mostly unknowns and all did a good job except for a few areas.
I enjoyed this film but could see how it could have been improved. Half way through you suddenly get shown the killer which took away all suspense and mystery, there were a few plot holes as well which didn't help. If you liked saw then you will like this and its worth getting now that its really cheap. Reomended if like horror although its not a horror film but not bad enough to be a over-dun gore film like older saws. The rating it a 18 but there was nothing worse than things I've seen in 15's so don't let that fool you into thinking is bloody etc.
I've never seen the original and was mainly drawn to this film because I'm a fan of both Travolta and Denzel but I still found this to be a very enjoyable film.
The story is simply that Travolta's character and his crew have hijacked a New York subway car and are holding the passengers hostage until they get money. Denzel's character is the unlucky guy who get caught in the middle and tries to negotiate with Travolta. It was very well writen and kept me guessing but did have a few points where nothing really happened for a while or what did happen was streached out. If you saw the original you might know whats coming (although I'm not sure how closely it relates).
Both Travolta and Denzel do a great job with their characters and really made the film great. There were other actors especially James Gandolfini who gave a just as good preformance. All of the loactions looked great, from the controll room to the subway which was mostly filmed on location in the subway and gave the film that realistic feel.
Overall I would recomend this film to fans of either of the main actors or just general fans of action films as this is a good one. If you seen the orginal then I can't be sure if you'll like this but its worht seeing. the DVD version was good enough don't really see the need for blu-ray as its more about the story than the effects etc. Not really a family film as the rating suggests but would make a good night in.
