      Advantages

      Disadvantages

It's a bit of festive fun.

Christmas is approaching so you might consider going to a german christmas market. In Germany christmas starts at the beginning of december (the start of advent) and massive christmas markets appear selling gifts and food. These are called Christkindelmarkts.

Leeds have taken on this tradition, as have many other cities, and have a small market in Millenium Square from mid november to mid december. It has been running for at least 10 years and is enjoyable to visit.

It consists of about 30 wooden stalls that sell gifts and crafts, from ornaments and candles to bags and scarves. They are high quality item and you will be hard pushed to find much that is 'cheap and cheerful'. There are also food stands selling beer and hot Gluwein (like mulled wine) and hot german food such as sausage and potatoes. Also you can get lovely sweets like ginger bread heart and fruit kebabs covered in chocolate.

There are also a few little rides for the kids and everything is lit up with fairy lights so it looks very festive. It is situated in the centre of leeds so you can then go and look around Leeds and see the Christmas lights.

There is no charge and the market is open daily from 10:30am-9pm (closes at 8pm on a sunday). Although it is not as big as ones in Manchester it still as a lovely festive atmosphere and really lifts the christmas spirit!

        Just buy the normal one!

Wieght Watchers have a range of products to help you reduce your fat intake when on a diet. Many of these are designed to allow you to eat like you normally would. For the canned soups Wieght Watchers have joined forces with Heinz to create a low fat yet tastey soup, however I feel they have fallen a bit short.

The Tomatoe soup is made up of 58% tomatoes and the rest is ingredients such as water, sugar, salt, spices etc. It is very low in saturated fat although it does contain quite a bit of sugar which is reflected in the 1 wieght watchers point given per can.

I feel the way they have reduced the fat it to reduce the size of the can however it still costs 66p for a 295g can. It costs 82p for a 400g of normal Heinz tomato soup which contains 84% tomatoes.

This difference in ingredients is reflected in the taste. Although the Wieght Watchers one does not taste bad it is a lot thiner and has a weaker, watery taste. I think I would rather have the normal stuff, it is not that much worse and you get more for your money.

Stock up for your quick fix dinner

Heinz Hoops are basically little pasta hoops in tomato sauces. They are easy to store, simple to cook and taste great.

Hienz hoops are made up of - you guessed it - tomatoes and pasta. It's 46% tomatoes and 44% pasta hoops to be precise. The other 10% is made up of water, sugar, salt, spices etc. This means it does contain quite a bit of sugar and carbs, however it has trace saturated fat.

Hoops will last ages as it comes in a can so it's great for those days when you have nothing in the cupboard and need to eat something quick. They are easy to cook, either a few minutes heated though on the hob or a few minutes in the microwave.

They taste good too, especially with a bit of buttery toast. The price has gone up a bit although they are still reasonably cheap. In Sainsburys you can get a 205g can for 37p. However you can get a 400g for 39p which doesn't make much sense to me.

Anyway one of the larger cans is filling for an adult and they are great for kids too!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

This programme is easy watching, just sit back and enjoy the view!

A place in the sun is a programme about buying a property abroad. Over the years it has had a number of presenters however the one that stands out for me is Jasmine Herman. She is knowledgeable about buying property in a foreign country as she as lived abroad before and she is always very pleasant.

Jasmine takes a couple or two friends to the country they are wanting to buy a property in. Over the half an hour programme they will see three different properties in varying location and with different features, for example a villa in the country or an apartment in the city.

By the end of the programme the couple have decided which was their favourite property and talk about what their next step will be. Sometimes they buy one of the properties they see or it has given them an idea of what they want and what they can get for their money.

I like watching this programme and learning about different building styles in different countries. It is also interesting to see how far your money will go abroad and it is full of useful advice for buying property abroad. Plus you get to see all the lovely places in Europe, which I find quite relaxing.

It will make you feel better about your house

How clean is your house is a programme aired on channel four. It is a programme about people who live in absolute filth and have asked the two presenters Kim and Aggie to come a clean their houses.

I find this programme almost fascinating as it is quite unbelievable how some people live. The people on these programmes aren't just messy they have just given up trying. Most haven't cleaned for years so their house is a complete state.

So in come Kim and Aggie who of course tell the house owner exactly what they think. Then they bring in a team of cleaners to begin to remove the rubbish and start cleaning. Kim and Aggie show the house owner helpful tips for cleaning using household ingredients and get them involved. Aggie also takes samples from the house and runs tests to see what bacteria has built up in the house in order to shock people into realising the way they live is not healthy.

The programme is only half an hour long and by the end the transformation of the house is revealed. It's quite a cheesy programme with over the top music and narrator, and Kim and Aggie don't stop nagging! But I find it quite enjoyable to watch and I like the helpful tips. It also makes me feel better about my clean house is!

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Love this programme - Love yourself

How to look good naked is a TV programme about body confidence which is aired on Channel 4. It is presented by Gok Wan who helps people with low self body confidence feel happy about their bodies. Contrary to the title he wants them to feel good about themselves with clothes on as well as out.

In each episode there is a woman (or two) who have really low self-esteem about their bodies. Over several weeks they do activities to help boost their confidence. First they look at themselves to see what they don't like (which is usually everything) then they look at others to see what they do like.

By getting positive feedback from themselves and making sure they wear flattering clothes that suit them Gok helps these women to feel better about themselves. They go through a transormation psychologically which is really uplifting to watch.

In the later series Gok is getting the women to do naked photo shoots and thier own fashion show to proove to themselves and everyone that they have got confidence in them.

Gok is a great host. Some find him annoying however I think he is lively and fun and more importantly he does seem to genuinley care. He himself was overwieght and so has an understanding of what it feels like to dislike your body.

I think watching it every woman out there can relate to what the women on the show are feeling and you will come across someone who is in the same position as you. This makes it seem so personal and can be an emotional roller-caoster. However it always ends on a high and it always leaves me smiling.

Also another aspect I like is Gok gives fashion advie for all shapes and sizes, for example what type of skirt suits pear shaped bodies. Usually the clothes on the show are from high street shops and it tells you where you can go and get them! However if there wasn't anything to your taste or style you could check out http://howtolookgoodnaked.com/ where you can get your own Gok consultation and loads of tips!

The importance to good body confidence has spread and a campaign has been launched through this programme to help teenagers feel better about themselves. This means changing the models in teen magazines (something which I have actually seen in a mag) and even bringing it into schools.

Look out for the programme in 2010 where Gok does a three part special working with three women who have disabilities.

It's a great programme that is not only feel good but has an important message - love yourself and you will be happy. :)

              Bad Busy Karma

Karma is the signature scent of Lush. The soap comes in an orangey colour that looks nice and warm and appealing. In the shop it is displayed as a big block which is cut up into chunks for you to buy. These chucks are weighed to give you the price and it costs £3.60 per 100g. This is one of the more expensive soaps, unfortunately it is not worth the extra cost in my opinion.

In my opinion it does not smell that great. There are too many scents going on. Firstly there are some citrus scents including lemon grass and orange, however these are overpowered by pine, patchouli and elemi oils. As if that wasn't bad enough there is also Lavender oil in the mix. There is a reason for these oils, for example the patchouli is supposed to be anti-bacterial and the lavender is relaxing. However there is just too much going on and it ruins the effect.

The ingredients include the oils rapeseed, sunflower, coconut, patchouli, orange, lavender, pine, lemongrass and elemi. Now although oils are good for the skin, the mix here is a bit OTT. The scents should complement each other and not clash and there defiantly should not be too many. It is a shame because the concept of a karma soup is nice.

Scrub away the gloom and lift your spirits with this sugar scrub.

This product is not only great for exfoliating your skin but moisturising it too! It is basically a lump of sugar that you crumble away in the shower and rub into your skin and it leaves it looking and feeling so smooth!

This scrub is white and scented with ylang ylang and mimosa blossom so it smells fresh and floral, but it has a twist. In the middle is extra virgin coconut oil that has a butter like consistency that will melt when you're in the shower and soften your skin. It also adds a lovely coconut smell too!

The ingredients include Fair Trade Sugar and sodium bicarbonate (etc) that create its shape and texture. Then of course there is the extra virgin coconut oil, as well as ylang ylang oil and mimosa absolute to give it its scent. All the ingredients work together to smooth and moisturise the skin.

It costs £2.50 for 100g which is quite pricey however it is a lovely product and makes you feel so good. Also it is supporting fair trade products, which is always a good thing. So go on, treat yourself. You won't regret it.

Will help to scrub away that tough skin.

This sugar scrub is great for getting rid of tough skin. It is basically a lump of sugar that you crumble away in the shower and rub into your skin and it leaves it looking and feeling so smooth!

This scrub is a green colour and is scented with ginger and fennel. Although it's not a pretty as some of the other smells the oils in it are really good for smoothing the skin. Also this scrub is a lot tougher so it really will rub away those tough spots!

The ingredients include Fair Trade Sugar and sodium bicarbonate (etc) that create its shape and texture. It also contains fresh ginger root, fresh fennel and lavender oil that will really stimulate and sooth the skin.

This scrub costs £2.50 for 100g, which is expensive however you can try it in the shop to see that it actually does work! It's great for feet.

Great site for listening to your favourite songs

I have just discovered a great site for listening to music. There is a new fad for creating online playlists so you can listen to the latest music, or any you don't have for free! We7 is one of the sites where you can do this.

Basically there is a huge data base of music that you can search. There is anything from the lastest chart music to classical. You can listen to the songs you find straight away, however if you create an account (nothing to do with money) you can save the songs you have chosen on playlists. So whenever you are on your computer you can listen to anything you want for free!

However here is the catch - they are not downloads. You can't upload them onto your mp3 player of anything, you can only listen to them when you are on the website. Also they have short adverts at the beginning of the song, although they are only a few seconds long. It's a very small price to pay for free music.

Finally you can pay to download the songs. They vary in price, but rarely cost over a pound. Or if your having a party you can get a day where you can play your playlists without any adverts. You don't have many of these so use them wisely!

                Asparagus is a great veg!

Asparagus is a thin green vegetable that has a tip that looks slightly leafy and darker. It can be found growing in many parts of Europe, and in Africa and Asia. It is a flowering plant that grows straight up out of the ground which is then picked. It has a lovely taste that is unique and not over powering.

Asparagus is very healthy for you, containing almost no calories and is a good source of minerals such as iron. It can be cooked in many ways - steamed, boiled, roasted or made into a soup etc, and it doesn't take long to cook. There are so many possibilities, although avoid eating it raw.

There are many varieties of asparagus that vary in size and colours. It is not one of the cheapest vegetables however it only costs a few quid for a large bunch.

Finally the one thing you should know about asparagus is that it can cause your wee to have a strong scent. This is nothing to be worried about, it's perfectly normal. It is purely down to chemistry. But do not fear you can only smell it if you have a certain gene, which only 22% of the population have!

                  Advantages

                  Disadvantages

                  Disappointing

This is my favourite sweet, or was. Whether you like it or not everyone remembers sherbet fountains from when they were young. However for those of you who never had the chance to try one a shebert foundtain used to be a cardboard tube filled with sherbet, with a liquorice stick in the middle to dip into the sherbet. They used to be covered in yellow paper with the name on, which you could tear away to get to the sherbet.

They are a lot of fun to eat - trying to dig out the sherbet with a liqorice stick, having the sherbet fizz in your mouth and then get all over your clothes because you tried to pour it down your throat. Good memories.

But now it has all changed. I suppose the concept of the sherbet fountain it still the same. You get a tube of sherbet with liquorice in, however now the tube is plastic. I'm not sure what the thinking behind this was as surely it is harder to recycle than paper! Also you can't tear it away to get to get to the sherbet and it will trap am moisture in it and make the sherbet go all lumpy!

Then there is the taste. The sherbet used to taste like proper sherbet, nice and sweet. Yes it may have been filled with sugar and other not so healthy things but it's a sweet, what do you except!?! Now the sherbet has a very fine texture and tastes a bit like soap. This is probably partly to do with the fact they have gone 'healthy' and used only natural ingrediants. Also partly to do with the horrbly plastic tube. Yet dispite this healthier version it's still full of sugar and calories.

Finally a quick note about the price. I know prices of things have gone up in the last decade but this sweet has gone from being 15p to 40p for 25g! This is probably due to the changes they have made to it. It is definatly not worth 40p now!

I am gutted that Barrett have changed this sweet and hope they see the error of thier way and change it back, as the sweet has been diminished.

                    Waste of money

Emotibombs are just like a bath bomb - they fizz away and release a lovely fragrance to lift your mood. However these have been designed for the shower! All you do is place the emotibomb on the floor of the shower and the water running down will make it fizz. Then all the lovely scents from the oils are release into the steam and fill the shower with a lovely smell, whilst coating your skin in good essential oils.

Unfortunatly the Too Drunk emotibomb does no such thing. For starters it looks horrible - the face is quite amusing but I don't understand why it is a horrible brown colour. Then there is the smell, which is equally as horrible. I am not sure what the scent was supposed to achieve but it made me feel ill and I wasn't even hung over!

It is frangranced with peppermint, tagetes, sweet orange and fennel oil, which creates a mash of smell that makes no sense. I do not think it would would help cure anyones hang over!

Then there is the price. It's £2.22 for a horrible block that you can only use once. It is a complete waste of money.

The Up You Get emotibomb is my favourite. It comes as a hard oval shaped white piece with the imge of a happy man on the front. This emotibomb is designed to help you feel refreshed and uplifted with the scents of grapefruit, lemon and lime.

It contains the essential oils of the frangrances which is good for your skin and other ingredients such as sodium bicarbonate that give it consistancy and its fizziness! These ingredient leave your skin feeling lovely and fresh as well as soft and moisterized.

This emotibomb is one of the cheaper ones at £1.92, however you don't get much use out of it. Your could break it up into pieces so you get more uses however to get the best effect you should use it in one go. So due to this it is a bit expensive for what it is but a nice little treat for christmas!

Looks great but smell could be a bit more subtle.

Lush shower jellies are basically soaps with that have a jelly consistency. They work the same way as a soap, that is you rub it between your hands to create a foam to wash with then you put the jelly back to be used again another day.

The sweetie pie jelly looks amazing with a strong purple colour filled with different coloured glitter pieces. As the name suggests the smell is very sweet, like some sort of candy. The actual smell is of cherries, which is quite nice but is a bit too sweet for my taste.

The jellies are made for ingredients such as bergamot, cypress and carrageenan oil, and cherry and coconut infusions. As well as other soapy type ingredients like Propylene Glycol etc, that gives the soap its shape. Lush aim to use ingredients that are good for your skin and the jelly does leave your skin feeling lovely and soft.

The jelly is displayed in a big block in the shop which wobbles around and chucks are cut off and put into little plastic pots. These are then weighed to get your price. For this jelly it's £2.27 for 100g.

Although I find the smell a bit too sweet for my taste this jelly looks great and is a lot of fun in the shower. It's nice as a little treat.
