When rating consumer reviews, I'm specifically looking for your own thoughts, opinions and experiences related to the product or service. A list of specifications or instructions I can find elsewhere on the Internet (and when making a purchasing decision, will already have this information from official sources). Pointless stories about your wee family/pet dog/old banger of a car/plasma screen telly are all unwelcome. Ratings are (in my opinion) closely linked to the amount and quality of relevant information, opinion and insight. Too much waffle and padding of useless information can be counter-productive and actually make reviews LESS helpful.
Discussion and Speaker's Corner reviews have to argue their points well and come to a conclusion. Any external sources or figures must be credited. All the usual "isms" - sexism, racism etc. will be marked down and reported to Dooyoo where appropriate.
Also... if you've read or rated any of my reviews, then thank you, even if the rating is a lower one. All honest ratings count towards the success of the site. I do not subscribe to the increasingly popular point of view of "return reads". I read and rate around the site on topics that interest me. If you write on the topics I find interesting (and if you're seen as part of the community), then I will read and rate. If not, then I won't. I feel this concept of return reading creates little rating circles that I don't believe is healthy for the site or the community.
