I bought one of these so I could have a look at using the windows phone operating system. I was pleased with the result but I don't know if I could use it as my primary phone.
Its built solidly and has decent specs for a budgetish phone. The back of it feels smooth and it sits well in the hand. I would like the screen to be a tiny bigger just to make things a bit clear but the screen size is still decent. It has 3 touchscreen buttons along the bottom which look very nice. Overall a well made phone.
It comes with good bundled apps like maps and email and there is an app store which has many more. However when comparing to android or ios the app marketplace is pretty poor but it will improve over time. The messaging app is great and its easy to use but the keyboard lets it down. It has quite variable accuracy when typing and I find myself really having to concentrate when using the keyboard. Its also a little to thin and this hinders the keyboard performance further. The camera is a good feature on the phone it can take decent images and can also translate foreign text if you take a picture of it.
I am very impressed with this phone when you take into consideration the price. It has some flaws but if you are looking for a first phone or if you are wanting to experience the windows phone OS I would say that this is a definite buy. However personally I wouldn't switch from android but windows phone is catching up to the market leaders in leaps and bounds.
I bought the JVC Xtreme Bass earphones because i listen to a lot of bass heavy music and wanted to be able to have earphones that have a lot bass so I don't have to carry around headphones with me all the time.
I bought these earphones for about £25 and I thought that I would get some average quaility headphones but they look high end and sound great for the price. Unfortunately though I had to get mine from America so they took about a fortnight to arrive but it was worth the wait.
These earphones are made of plastic and come with a plastic carry case. Personally I don,t like the carry case as its bulky and it looks cheap, so I don't use it. The headphones look great and are red and black. The cable they come with is durable but tangles quite easily in my pocket but that cant really be avoided. The earpieces themselves are very big and they might not be for everyone, luckily they are not heavy as they are made of plastic and they come with 3 different sizes of earbuds.
The audio quality is the main reason to buy these earphones as it fantastic for the price. They blew the standard apple headphone I have out the water in terms of quality and bass levels. There is very little sound leakage and you cant hear any of your surroundings when listening to them. When listening to drum and bass or dubstep earphones excel and they are good for rap music to.
If you want high quality at a low cost look no further as these extreme bass headphones tick all the right boxes for music lovers.
I bought this before i got an iPhone so i could listen to music on the go in a small form factor. This is the 6th generation is tiny and is most certainly pocket sized. It was designed for portability and still holds plenty of songs.
In my opinion the iPod nano looks great and i prefer this to the previous generation. I have heard many criticisms of such a small touchscreen and such a small device in general but this negativity is not the case. The screen is just big enough to be able to navigate and the size is perfect for exercise as you can clip it onto a shirt or ten wear it as a watch. There are also volume buttons on the top along with the power/lock switch found on almost all the iPods. There is a 30pin connector for syncing the iPod and it also has a clip on the back so you can attach the iPod to your clothes.
I will admit that i questioned the usability of such a small tough screen. However saying this it really does work well and the iPod is easy to navigate despite the small form factor. The screen swivels with the iPod so it is never upside down and the operating system works well with the device and four icons are displayed. The os is similar to iOS on iPhones with the looks but this iPod cannot download apps like the touch or iPhone.
This iPod is budged with features like clock faces, fm radio and genius for music. Apps cannot be downloaded so these apps are what your are stuck with. However this is just an iPod and all these features are great to have. If you buy a wrist band adaptor this iPod makes a perfect watch and looks very stylish. There are many clock faces to choose from so you don't get bored. There is also the fitness app which has many features to monitor your fitness like a pedometer. This is useful as i mainly got this iPod for the portability and fitness purposes. It would be nice to see some apps from independent developers on the app store but the funded apps are more than sufficient.
The price is the downside for me as this 8gb model costs a whopping £115. 8gb can only store a limited amount of songs so i would recommend the 16gb for music lovers as that will let you store more on the nano. This iPod's price is far too high and i think that it should retail at around £80 to be competitive. However there are not many alternatives with these features and portability.
The 15.4 inch macbook pro is one of the best laptops on the market and has power, style and versatility. It can be bought for around £1600 and is a high end laptop from apple.
I love the look of most apple products and this is one of the best looking so far. The macbook is made from a unibody aluminium body so it not only looks incredible but is very stung and durable. The laptop is thin and is a good size to fit in a bag if you want to take it anywhere. The apple logo on the back lights up when the screen is on and completes the professional look of the laptop. The good looks continue to the screen and keyboard. There is a full size chic lit keyboard that is black in colour. It looks great as it contrasts with the aluminium body, it is also backlit so you can use it in the dark. The screen is one complete pane of glass and look elegant and professional. It also has an hd camera on on the top of the screen which is almost unnoticeable and it blends in with the black bezel surrounding the screen. This is the best looking laptop i have ever seen and is on par with the macbook air.
This laptop has good enough specifications to act as a primary computer and the screen is big enough to satisfy that purpose aswell. This laptop has a 750gb HDD and that is being enough for music, videos and applications. You can configure this macbook so it has an sad drive which makes booting almost instantaneous along with opening applications although the HDD is still very capable. This laptop comes standard with 4gb of ram which is great for most tasks and can be configured to have up to 16gb if necessary. The screen is one of the best components and has a magnificent LED backlit display with a resolution of 1440 by 900. This resolution makes it excellent for any professional. Photo and video editing are a joy to do on the screen and the colours really pop. It has lots of connectivity options for example usb 2.0 Ethernet and thunderbolt along with built in bluetooth for wireless accessories. The graphics cards are also good enough to handle games and rendering. It comes with a HD radeon 6770M and an intel HD 3000 which it switches between depending on the tasks you are doing. That is the features as hardware is concerned. This is also packed with cutting edge software. Mac osx lion has too many features to talk about in this review and is one of the best operating systems that is out there for professionals. All these features make the mac a joy to use and this is a perfect computer to replace a desktop as it is bundled with huge amounts of power in a laptop form factor. The battery also gets 7 hours of battery life! This is incredible for a laptop and apples claimed battery life is true if you are browsing the web or doing other not particularly intensive tasks. The battery life decreases if you are playing games or editing videos as the batter is needed as the mac needs more power. Saying this you still get a good few hours whatever tasks you are doing.
I bought this laptop so i could perform all the tasks that i could on a desktop but in a laptop form factor. This means i can carry it around as it is not to heavy for a 15inch laptop. However if you are commuting a lot i would recommend getting 13inch macbook pro or a macbook air as they are tailored for portability and also have lot of power. But if you are willing to carry the extra weight this machine is perfect for almost every task you can throw at it.
This will probably be the shortest section as this is a great laptop. However nothing is ever perfect. The program compatibility if the main problem as mac osx does not support some programs for example sony vegas. This can be fixed by installing widows on your mac through bootcamp or parallels so this is only a problem if you are not willing to install windows on your mac. The next problem is gaming but macs are not designed for gaming so i won't get into that too much. However if like me you are a casual gamer the macbook pro is great and games run smoothly at high fps's due to the good graphics card. The price is always a downside but you are paying for the design and also apple use the money to make better products. Also macs retain there resale value which makes the price seem less daunting.
This is pretty much portable desktop as the power is huge but the mac can still be taken to work and this makes it great for professionals who want an unbeatable experience when computing.
The iPod classic is the best iPod for music lovers as you can store thousands of song on your iPod as it has 120gb of storage space.
I got the black iPod classic as i prefer the look of it to the silver one. The iPod classic has a nice feeling metal finish on the front of the iPod and the click wheel is large. The screen is relatively small but i don't watch too many videos on iPods and i mainly got this for the song storage so the screen is perfect. The back of the iPod is shiny metal which gets scratched very easily but looks great. It has the headset jack on the top along with the lock switch. There is a 30pin connector so you can charge it and use iPod docks. When you put the iPod classic in an iPod dock it looks very good. I like the size of the iPod as it perfect size for your pocket and can also have thousands of songs on it. It is great for commuting and the iPod is not to heavy so is perfect to carry around.
This iPod's main advantage is the sheer number of songs that you can fit on it as it has 120gb of storage space. The interface is also a positive aspect as it is easy to navigate and is not confusing at all. The click wheel is perfect for this iPod as it has all the functions needed to listen to music, changing songs and adjusting the volume. The battery life is also an advantage as if you are listening to music you get a huge amount of battery life and this iPod is great for long journeys and just chilling at home. I also use this with my speaker dock as it has all my songs to I can listen to anything on my iTunes library. The iPod is fast as it has a simple interface and so far it has not frozen.
I would recommend this to anyone who has lots of songs and listens to lots of genres as you get storage without compromise with this iPod.
After having this product for about 3 years i think it about time it got reviewed so here we go!
The igroove is a sub £100 speaker system that delivers excellent quality on a wide variety of music genres. The design is very eye catching and is a definite conversation starter. These are great for home usage and if you are hosting a small social occasion.
The igroove system look unlike any other speaker dock i have ever seen. It curves elegantly in a sleek black design and will enhance the look of your living room, desk or wherever you decide to put it. It is heavy and does take up a fair amount of space so be wary of that. It has a carrying handle on the back for moving it around but i would only recommend moving it around your house as it is a bit to heavy to be a portable speaker system. It tuns of the mains and looks even better when an iPod is docking. It comes with an equally curvaceous remote which looks eye catching along with the speakers.
These speakers carry a lot of bass with them and are good for drum and bass. However saying this they have suited every genre of music i have thrown at them over the years and that has been plenty. There are three buttons along the bottom of the speaker dock which are volume up, volume down and also a power on and on button which goes green when they are off and red when they are on standby. They still charge your iPod when o standby mode which is a pod feature. I would have liked to see more buttons like a skip song or even a bass button which is also my feeling with the remote. It has pause play and change song along with volume adjustment and power on/off functions. I think that more buttons could have easily been fitted onto the remote. This speaker system is designed for iPods and iPhones as it has a 30pin connector dock in the bottom but i t also comes with an adapter so you can play music through any device with a 3.5mm headphone socket.
The sound is usually the main reason to buy a speaker dock and these do not disappoint in that area. From the moment i started using them till now i have always been impressed with the quality of sound. I use these speakers to listen to podcasts when i go to bed everyday and the audio is always crisp and clear. When playing music they also shine with rick sound and large amounts of bass. Surprisingly everything i have put through this dock has sounded good so don't worry about the quality when buying these speakers.
They price they are at on amazon is an incredible deal i picked them up for £79 but they are as low as £69 at the moment so grab them while these low prices remain as at one point they rose to about £100. They are really good for the price and have great value for money. You pay for a medium quality product but revive a very high quality one and i cannot praise the price of these enough.
I would recommend these speakers to anyone who loves music and wants a good dock for the home and are not willing to break the bank.
These are a high end pair of xbox and ps3 immersive gaming headphones. They have a control to adjust chat audio game volume and bass. The also feature a microphones that adjusts and can be neatly tucked away if necessary.
Personally I think the looks could be improved by a different colour for some parts of the headphones. For the most part they look professional and are a very cool looking addition to my xbox 360. However the white parts look a bit cheap in my opinion and i would have preferred them in red or even green. Saying that when you see someone else wearing them it makes the person look like a professional gamer and they do look the part in that aspect.
Unlike the standard xbox headset these feel very sturdy and there is no chance of me breaking them like i did the stock xbox ones (By sitting on them!). The design features large ear cups connected to a padded and solid construction band to go over your head. I have dropped them a couple of times and this has not done any damage at all so don't worry about giving them the old knock by accident. The microphone is also very durable and i don't think that it will fray as the cable is in a metal adjustable tube that can be folded up when not in use to prevent damage. Overall i cannot fault the design in terms of quality and durability.
Listening and chat Experience
If i had to sum up the audio on these headphones in one word it would be incredible. The sound is rich and immerses you in the gameplay. I found these most useful playing first person shooter games as you can hear peoples footsteps which goes a huge advantage. They are also good for a range of games so don't be put off if you are not an FPS fan. The audio can be adjusted by a little box attached to the cable. This lets you tinker with options for general audio levels, chat and even bass. This brings me onto the chatting experience and that has been a pleasurable one. I can hear everything that my friends say and as the chat volume is adjustable a loud game no longer drowns out their voices. The microphone quality is also very good and is very sensitive in picking up audio so your friends and teammates could hear you even if you were whispering. These turtle beaches are the best pair of xbox headphones i have ever used and i won't be switching them out for a while.
Of course as most high quality products do these have a hefty price tag. However in my opinion the improvement in sound quality over a tv or pair of normal headphones is astonishing and that pretty much justifies the price. Also with the good build quality these will last a long time so for that reason the price is fine in my my opinion.
If you want your gameplay to be improved as a competitive gamer or are just looking for a better experience with your xbox or ps3 i would recommend forking out the cash and buying these headphones as they are faultless in the sound quality department.
Apple have pulled out the stops for this wireless bluetooth mouse and must have added a touch of fairy dust because magic mouse is a very suitable name for this product.
The looks are fantastic even in pictures it looks wonderful and it is better in real life. This mouse is very sleek and gives your desk a professional look just by being there. It looks excellent along side apple computers and is a must have if you love your apple products like me! The mouse i made of aluminium and plane of either plastic or glass along the top, either way the whole of the top surface is multitouch and ready for gesture controls.
The sheer number of functions that this mouse can do is nothing less than incredible. From the get go it is programmed for mission control, launchpad and changing panels with the swish of your fingers. This does nto sound impressive but the with and external application called better touch tool (free, google it) you can program teh mouse to do a stagering amount of functions and that is one of the main reasons the mouse is so great. I have moderately small fingers and the mouse fits perfectly in my hand with enough surface area for multitouch gestures. I'm not sure if the size will be a problem for the larger handed users so best to test one out for your self. The mouse fits snugly in your hands and i can easily use it for a couple of hours straight with no problems. The mouse also connects to your computer via bluetooth so there is no need for a usb receiver. The range claimed on the apple website is 30 feet and i have never lost connection due to the range although i have never been using the mouse more than a few feet from my mac.
The battery life is another great feature to pick up on. Apple have really cut down on battery usage for the magic mouse as the batteries rarely run out. I have had the magic mouse for 6 months and only had to change the batteries once and that is with the mouse boeing turned on constantly. Even if the tie does arrise to change the batteries they take very accessible AA batteries which are moderately cheap as batteries go and are sold in most uk shops.
This is going to come in at around £40 unless it comes free with your mac so it is a fairly pricey mouse. However all the functionality if this mouse make it worth every penny for me and i cant see myself switching back to using my logitech mouse any time soon. So in value for money i would say that it it worth the £40 no question.
This is likely to be the smallest section as there is not much to write here. The only measly disadvantage that I was faced with is using the mouse for gaming as the sensitive mouse is not ergonomically designed for it and there is only one button on the mouse. It is fine for casual gaming and i play minecraft using it but if you want to play an FPS you might need another mouse. However macs are not typically gaming machines anyway.
To conclude i could not recommend this enough for the apple user but i would say try it in an apple store as some people hate these mice.
I have borrowed these speakers from my brother and have had them for almost a week and they are very impressive. I will review them in few categories.
These speakers are very small and i have to say that i was slightly disappointed first looking a them but this is not a problem as they have a lot of power despite this. They are black as you can see in the picture and are small enough to fit on a desk which is where the speakers have lived when i have been using them. Also they come with a remote which has lots of functions and i was impressed with how sturdy it was. There are also playback controls along the top if you dont want to use the remote. So overall they look great and even better when they have an ipod in them.
You can either dock the ipod on the connecter which support most generations of ipods for charging and every generation with the 30pin connector for playback without charging, or you can use bluetooth to connect with the speakers if your device has bluetoothing capabilities. The quality over both is flawless over bluetooth and through the dock. You can also play music with any device with a 3.5mm headset jack (most modern phones) as there is a connector handily placed at the back of the dock. These speakers excel with music that has a large amount of bass because there is a button on the top which is a bass boost and when it is turned on there is a crazy amount of bass, You can hear it through the walls of my house when i play bass heavy music.
I think the main users of these speakers would use them for casual listening at home and maybe a small party. These speakers are deceptively powerful and the full volume is very loud indeed. However these speakers are for a home environment rather than a party as they do not produce excellent quality sound when the volume is high but it is still better loud quality than most speakers in this price range. These speakers have the potential to have portability as they are small enough to bring round to a friends house if you want to blast some tunes. They have to run on mains power so would not be suited for outdoor usage.
The speakers i am using cos around the £100 mark (£109 i think) but it says that they can be purchased for £70 at the top of this page. If this is the case then you dont have to worry that would be great value for money. On the other hand if we assume that they could be £100 that is a harder decision to make as the value for money goes down slightly. There are more attractive speakers on the market for this price made by phillips and they have more functionality but i doubt they provide the sound quality that this little beast has.
There is not too much to say in this section as overall these speakers are top notch. The one problem that i have encountered is the dock connector being slightly flimsy. I had these problems with the ipod video and not the iphone as the device did not come with the ipod video adapter. This is a small issue and has not detracted from my enjoyment though. Also the sound quality decreases when its very loud but this will not be problem for most of you as very loud on these speakers is VERY loud.
To conclude these make excellent speakers for the home with enough power for social occasions.
I have been using this as my primary phone for the passed week and i have built up my views on the experience.
This is a large phone and has a large 4.3 inch screen and this is noticeable from the first time you look at it. The whole front of the phone is glass apart from the speaker at the top and this provides and excellent finish to the front. The back is a sort of soft touch plastic for the top 3/4 of the back but the bottom part is a normal darker plastic so you can get to the sim card and mire sd slot. The slight problem with the design is that the top and the bottom half of the back don't join together that well but this does not affect the performance. The phone is thin depute its big design and is moderately heavy but is not too heavy to carry around. I do find that it it is just small enough to to fit in my pocket and 4.3inches is an ideal size. It has a large camera on the back which protrudes slightly from the back of the phone.
On paper this phone has good specifications and is an able phone. When actually using his phone it is very snappy and the user interface is very intuitive. It is running the aneroid operating system but with the sense skin on top which has good transitions and animations. The phone's screen is very vibrant and colours really pop. I have enjoyed attaching tv shows and youtube videos on this phone. The volume keys and power/lock buttons are well placed and are not a problem to use. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack so you can use any headphone with this as the ones it comes with are not the best quality. Phone calls are excellent quality and this will be good for businessmen and the speaker phone is also very loud so will be sufficient for most users.
There are a few bad points to note. Firstly i have not enjoyed texting very much on this phone and have found accuracy to be a problem when using it especially when you are walking. Also signal is not that strong in some places compared to my iPhone but this may just be a personal problem not a problem with the phone. Also the main problem is the battery life and this is a make or break problem when you are buying this. The phone does not have a replaceable battery and if i play any intensive apps or am watching videos the battery life crumbles and i find regular charging is necessary.
I have been using these headphones for over a month and I am going to give a go at reviewing them as as they have not been review already.
These headphones are very big and that is good and bad depending how you look at it but i will mention the bad first. These headphones are large and I have only used them for home listening rather than taking them out the house as i would have to store them in a bag due to the size. However the large design enables a lot of features. The ear cups for these headphones are very padded and this makes them a joy to wear as it doesn't feel like you are even wearing headphones. I could easily wear these for hours and have without feeling any discomfort. The design is very durable and they are made of mostly plastic and some metal. But don't be put of by this as I have found these headphones to be very sturdy and they have not broken on me so far. The headband is padded which makes for even more comfort and the cables are long and thick so don't worry about them breaking. It also comes with a nice carrying bag to put the headphones in for travel.
If headphones do not sound good it doesn't matter how they feel or look but this is no problem with the XB500s. They deliver good sound quality with no compromise in design. The massive 50mm drivers power out some very reliable sound and it can suit most genres. However i would more recommend this to those of you who like songs with a heavy baseline as the large amounts of base is one of the main features. There is a fair amount of sound leakage so this may not suit you if you are going to use these headphones in an office or in public. However the padded ear cups isolate any background noise so the music is clear and uninterrupted.
Value for money
In terms of value for money these are a must buy. They are priced at a medium to low end pair of headphones but put in a much better performance than the price would suggest so picking up these headphones is a must. These could last you a very long time if treated correctly because of a durable design and that alone would make them worth the money.
I have used this keyboard for about six months now and i think its time to give an in detail review of it. I will review it in different categories to get the most in depth accurate review as possible.
When i first opened this product I was very impressed with the looks. I was sceptical about how the white keys and aluminium body would look but they actually go together very well. It looks better in person than it does in pictures online so definitely go to an apple store if you are unsure about the looks. The keyboard is quite small as there is no numpad but the keys are full sized. This products looks excellent combined with a magic mouse and an iMac and makes for a professional looking setup when you use it with a mac.
The keyboard is wireless which immediately looks good as there are no untidy cables running our from it. This keyboard is extremely tin but at the same time maintains a large amount of durability and is rigid in construction. The design is excellent as you can move it around easily and is small and light enough that you can pop it in a bag and use it with a macbook or iPad. The keys are plastic but are good quality and i have not had any problems with them in terms of breakages and faults. The batteries are stored conveniently in the top and it is easy to change the batteries although you will not have to do that much at all. However there are a few ways in which the design could be improved. The arrow keys located in the bottom right hand corner of the keyboard are very small and are quite fiddly especially if you have large fingers. Also i think that the addition of a numpad would have been a nice touch as you only get a row of numbers above the main keys. Another thing to take into account concerning the design is the colour of the keys. They are white plastic and over time they do pick up dirt and get some grunge build up on them. For me i have just carefully wiped the keyboard with a damp cloth and that clears off any dirt if it is a problem.
This small keyboard has quite a lot of features but some are lacking which I will get to in a second. Firstly along the top of the keyboard there is a row of buttons which have some very useful functions. Going from left to right we have the brightness up and down, mission control button, launch pad, media controls and volume controls. These buttons are easy to access and are very useful when you are watching a film or listening to music. However i think that they could have added some more features for example hotkeys that oped applications with a press of a button and more advanced volume controls but the ones provided are sufficient for everyday usage. Another selling point is that this is wireless and connects via bluetooth. Even though this keyboard is wireless apple has pulled out all the stops in terms of battery life. The 2 AA batteries that are provided last for a very long time and I have only had to change the batteries once in the six months I have had this product. Also AA batteries are cheaper than most small batteries and are available in most shops. This is because of the intelligent power management system that powers the keyboard on only when you start using it so it isn't sitting dormant using up battery. When you press the caps lock key a green light shows up which is useful but when you are typing this is covered by your hand and a light placed nearer the top would be better.
Ease of use/ Typing Experience
This is the best keyboard i have used so far for ease of typing and general typing experience. The keyboard does not make very much noise when it is in use and the keys are very responsive. The keys are arranged in a chiclet formation which means that the keys are separate form one another (not touching each other). This makes it easy to identify the keys and typing is much easier and i have to say that my typing speed and accuracy has improved when i have used this product. This along with the magic mouse makes for an excellent experience and it interacts very well with mac os to enhance speed and efficiency. I would prefer this product had backlit keys and if it did that would definitely justify the price of this keyboard. Saying this i have had few problems with typing in the dark.
I'm not sure how much the average keyboard price is but this keyboard can be purchased for £57 straight from apple although I'm sure other websites will sell it cheaper than this. Even so the price your paying will be around £50 which is a large amount for a keyboard to I would recommend testing this in the apple store or at a friends house before you buy it although hopefully this review will have helped you make a decision. Luckily I did not have to pay for mine as you get one free with iMac. I have looked online and for this price you can get a decent wireless keyboard for example one made made by logitech and you would get a larger range of functions and a numpad. However considering aesthetics I am yet to see a keyboard which looks nicer than this for the money. If you do want a numpad with your keyboard you can opt for the wired apple keyboard which is the same but has a full size numpad and directional keys.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone with a mac as it really works well with the operating system to enhance and improve your experience in general when using osx. Make sure that your computer has bluetooth functionality before buying this. This speeds up your typing with its design and is portable enough to bring with you so i would say this is must have for apple users.
