Driver is one of the most original games to bloom on the PlayStation. Sure, GTA gets close but it isn't 3D. The basic plot of Driver is that you are an undercover cop trying to bring down a group of criminals. In being undercover, Tanner (the person you control) gets involved in the missions and has to drive to survive. The missions in Driver range over four cities in the US - New York, Miami, Los Angeles and San Fransisco. They are all beautifully reconstructed and so accurate that a chip shop in the game is in exactly the same place in real life. The missions are quite varied too, but they have their limits. You don't have to do the mission and you can drive wherever takes your fancy but the missions are very frustrating if you are just starting and they start to repeat themselves after a while. On the whole though, the graphics are superb, the gameplay is brilliant fun and the missions are sometimes varied. I give Driver 9/10.
Tekken 3 is by far the best game in it's class. The graphics, gameplay, soundtrack and longevity all boost it to the top of the scale. The first point I said about Tekken 3 was the graphics. They are very smooth, with moves looking very realistic and altogether well developed. Sometimes whilst doing a move a part of one character will pass through another part of another character, but this is very hard to avoid when making a game and so I don't really mind. The gameplay on Tekken 3 is another of it's high points. The moves of the characters are very easy to learn and the combos that can be achieved at the simple bash of a couple of buttons are overwhelming. The soundtrack to the game is great too with a different tune going with a different area and character. The tunes in themselves aren't really No #1 material but they can be pretty groovy, especially when you are about to pull the million-dollar move. The longevity of the third Tekken game isn't really too bad, with lots of separate characters to unlock and many different game modes to be found (eg. Tekken Ball Mode). However, achieving the goal of unlocking everything in the game is no mean feat. The game is very easy to finish and after that you won't find yourself coming back to play the game alone very often. When you are with a mate, however, the fun never stops. You can have hilarious fun thrashing around with your mates and you will find it hard to stop. I give this game 9/10.
This is probably my favourite teen flik of the year (excluding American Pie) and it has the most realistic storyline that I have ever come across. So, here are a few things I love about this film... 1. The great acting shoves it up to a cool standard by anybody's books 2. The realism in the story line makes it a great film to watch so long as you can stand teenage behavior! 3. The originality of the plot puts this film in a class of it's own and it excels in that class. American Pie is the only film that I can think of that rivals this film, and Ten Things I Hate About You is more for the less mature teenager than adults. The plot is that a Tommy pays another bloke to go out with Kat, because Tommy can only go out with Bianca (Kat's sister) if Kat starts dating first. But somehow, the bloke falls in love with Kat and ends up dating her without being paid. It is a very complicated story, and is best understood if you watch it yourself.
The Mummy is a great romp and is packed with horror, thrills and great one-liners. The basic plot is that a woman who is interested in the history of Egypt, finds out about a place called Hamunahptra, which is an historic city buried under the sand. They dig into the chambers and manage to unleash a Mummy, who is a baddie from previous millenniums. His aim was to bring back the Princess that he loved, and he needed a human sacrifice to bring her back. He killed everybody in his path to be able to gain all of his strength and thrust the 10 plagues of Egypt among the explorers. The explorer's job then is to silence the beast and kill it so that nothing may happen. I think that the story is original and well crafted, and that the computer graphics are stunning. The way the Mummy comes alive will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand straight up. I think that this is a must-see film for anybody (so long as they are over 12 as that is the certificate). The acting is pretty corny, but is okay at the crucial moments. This is probably the only weakness that the film has.
This Bond film is rubbish. Here's my review on it, and why I think it deserves a thumbs down... 1. This film is basically exactly the same as all the others, except it has the Millennium Dome in it. 2. The Millennium Dome featuring in the film is obviously just a plea for modernising the film's dated ancestory. 3. The name 'Dr. Christmas Jones' is obviously just going to lead to stupid jokes (like "I thought Christmas only came once a year!", as said by Bond). 4. The plot is non-existence. Therefore, it is crap. 5. The realism is about as real as being able to cram the whole of Bulgaria into a Mini. (Basically what i'm trying to say is that it isn't very realistic.) So there you have it. 'The World is not Enough'? I think that the only thing the world is not up to is any more Bond films like this.
Pikachu! Bulbasaur! Jigglypuff! All of these are really stupid names. Who the hell comes up with them?!!? Pokemon is the latest craze in the GameBoy world. It is all about Ash, a young Pokemon trainer who tries to become the best trainer in the world. Team Rocket make it difficult for him, but there is also another task which Ash must face and complete. Professor Oak, a Pokemon trainer gives Ash a Pokedex, a catalogue of Pokemon, and you have to collect all 150 of the little blighters. But it isn't that easy because some of them are really rare, and others you only get one chance to catch. You are Ash at the start of the game, and you have to complete these tasks. However, it is supposed to keep you entertained for a long time. But it doesn't. Once you have defeated the Elite 4, the game is crap. This is because you will be tearing your hair out over trying to catch the rare Articuno or the devilish Chansey. After you have become the most powerful trainer in the Pokemon world, it becomes really boring. There isn't much to do, and this is Pokemon's only real weakness. It keeps you engrossed for several weeks and then you lose intrest and toss it aside. Pokemon is probably the worst craze the world has ever had to endure, and also the most money wasting and the most annoying.
This game is especially for the GameBoy Colour, and it takes full advantage of the graphics available. Mission:Impossible is the best graphical game I have ever seen on the GameBoy Colour and it has all of the colours there on the screen. It has great animation for things as intricate as answering the phone. The gameplay on Mission:Impossible isn't too bad either, with plenty of variety in the missions and different things to be encountered in every level. The movements are quite dodgy at times though, with the red beams not doing anything sometimes. The other main feature of Mission:Impossible is probably that you can go into your secret files and do allsorts: you can turn our GameBoy Colour into a remote for any electrical appliance you wish, you can store addresses, send messages, write stuff down in your notebook. This is the main feature that really makes the game worth the £24.99 asking price. I am still as impressed as I was the day I bought it, but the dodgy movements and the difficulty of finding out what to do kind of let the game down. Therefore, I give the game 4/5.
Gap are cool. No doubt about it. They are THE name in groovy gear for 2000. The best fashion items that don't look completely stupid are probably from Gap, so part with yo' cash. But hey, seriously folks, this stuff is great for casual and comfortable wear. They are great colours and they are really great quality. I usually get all my Gap stuff from Cheshire Oaks as it is quite cheap but still amazing quality. These are a must-have for all those skaters out there too. Not only are they comfortable, they look SWEET if they are big and baggy too! They are cool for the teenager too as they make skate stuff for outrageous looks but also they make sensible and colourful smart shirts for the more 'mature' wearer. My only REAL downside to Gap stuff is it is quite expensive but for great quality I don't mind parting with my cash.
When the Dreamcast was first unvielled everybody thought that it was the console of the future and everybody would have one. WRONG. You see, the Dreamcast came out at just the wrong time. Everybody was starting to get bored of the Playstation, but with the announcement of PS2 on it's way, most people decided to save up and wait for the new arrival rather than fork out the same kind of cash for a machine that is only half as good. The Dreamcast itself is okay - but that is probably one of it's other main faults. It didn't really introduce anything NEW, and so people thought that it was just a Playstation copy. And they were probably right. When I played on the Dreamcast first, it was still when we didn't know if PS2 was actually going to come into existence. Even though I didn't know of PS2 then I still was reluctant to buy one because it wasn't wacky, innovative or cool. It just failed. So I didn't buy one. And i'm desperately saving for that PS2... Having said all this down-grading stuff, the Dreamcast isn't so bad. The graphics are better than the PS1 and the game pad is pretty doodie too, and the internet access it provides is a handy tool. If PS2 hadn't come along straight after the release of the Dreamcast, it would have been a hit.
The most well-known album is probably Nevermind, and so I have decided to write a review on it. This album ROCKS! The first ever Nirvana song I heard was 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and I loved it! I then went on to obtain the album so I could listen to that one song. Then, after hearing the whole album, I realised that Teen Spirit wasn't the only amazing song on there. 'Breed' and 'Come as you Are' are both very catchy tunes and I ended up learning them on my guitar. The other tracks are pretty good too; 'Terriatorial Pissings' is quite a weird one but it grows on you. The album itself is, on the whole, a bargain and you will find yourself time and time again just doing nothing and listening to it over and over. It is definitely a good investment that is also timeless and a good tribute to the late Kurt Kobain (lead singer and guitarist of Nirvana).
The Bloodhound Gang's latest album, 'Hooray for Boobies' is an interesting blend of rock and rap. The songs are a riot if you listen to the lyrics and the actual music itself is pretty decent too. The best feature about the latest album is probably the fact that it has the chart smasher 'Bad Touch' song on and the pac-man song also to make it a hilarious and throbbing soundtrack. The album isn't too long, but the quality is what matters about the album and not the quantity. This is the best Bloodhound Gang album that I have heard and definitely my favourite.
Blink 182 are a pretty cool punk/rock band and just lately have surprised all of us rock fans by getting into the charts. However, some may argue that after TOTP they have lost their touch, but likewise I think that they are just going from strength to strength. Enema of the State is probably my favourite album of them all, with the likes of 'What's my Age Again' and 'Mutt' to put the icing on the cake. This album rocks and is now getting pretty cheap too! I bought the album ages ago for £12.99 but now it is only £9.99! Bargain!!!
When I first got Garbage's album, I listened to it non-stop and it still holds truth today. It is a great listen and is cool for long journeys as it is quite a long CD to keep you entertained for miles. The songs are a cross between rock, pop and techno, with some pretty cool guitar riffs, a cool bumping keyboard and some really brill drum rhythms. The singing is cool too and the originality is groovy. You can tell when Garbage are playing because they tend to have their own unique sound, but I can't really explain it. You'll just have to listen for yourself.
Starship Troopers is the ultimate sci-fi thriller that will blow your mind. The basic plot is that there is an alien planet called Klinathu and it is deflecting asteroids towards Earth, so the people of Earth decide to start a war with the huge alien bugs. The people of Earth sign up into the army and get vigorous training in combat. Then, when Earth moves into Klindathu territory, the Bugs start to host an uglier threat than they had first thought...
Vans are the ultimate skating shoe for skateboarders out there that are looking for a new style of clothing. Anybody who's anybody wears them or has them, and they look cool and are extremely comfortable. They look great with Gap combat trousers and a Gap t-shirt and Quicksilver hat and jacket. Thus you will be ready to hit the half-pipe and get some serious air!!! Vans also make some great clothing products so go and part with that wad of cash that is burning a hole in your pocket!
